Sandy, thank you so much.. I really struggle with language while I am creating on camera.. so I have to stop filming to find the words.. glad I can express it for you!! x
Loved watching your beautiful creations and listening to your words of wisdom regarding women, not junk once we make journals repurposing discarded items. LOVE that these are art creations! A lovely book! I look forward to seeing more.😍😘
Hi Cat, man, I love watching you create these pages, right down to the scratchy paper sound! It's all "piggly wiggly", or whatever it was, your friend wanted to hear you say! Haha! These tutes are always a JOY to watch, thanks to both you and your hardworking hubby, Don. I'm quite intrigued at how this particular book is coming along! Thank you as always, for all your shares and hard work. And hope your allergies clear up soon, my friend.
Thank you so much dear friend.. that booster shot really did me in.. resting up this weekend!! Don sends you his thanks too! I must admit to being quite smitten and really look forward to working on Ladies Hand ✋🏻😘
This journal is turning out so beautifully! I think art is the act of creating. It can be anything that we create, that gives us that sense of satisfaction and completion.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful creativity with us, to me you are such an inspiration. And i love everything about you and your channel. You are blessed with a gift, a light, never stop sharing it with others.
Beautiful, Cat... the ideas, the history, the research, the synthesis, the materials, the play, the ethos, the aesthetics, the process... just lovely! And I L-O-V-E, love that shot of Werner's Nomenclature (one of my favorite books, ever) in your intro!
Judith, thank you so much.. I cannot tell you how much your thoughtful and appreciative comment uplifted me. I too love that wee book!! It's perfectly Yummy!! x
What a wonderful journal , so enjoyed watching you work your magic. LOVE the size too. You're so lucky to have such a supportive husband who works with you in your creative process 💗
You always inspire me, Cat! I love the typewriter page. Women’s careers as secretaries was still pushed upon us when I was in high school, and I love that that page is in your book. I took shorthand for the beauty of the written symbols and it’s sounds, not for a job, and use it in my pieces. A secret language! Your works are thought provoking and playful. You make my day. 😊❤️
Thank you so much, Lori.. I am so glad that symbolism was not lost…. I took typing in HS for that reason.. never short hand!! You are lucky to know it!! 5hanks always for you thoughtful comments! 😘
Love how your journal is happening before us and how you’re sharing your process with us. It’s so important to make art intuitively and by you reinforcing that very fact reinforces it in me also 💖. Thank you both and sure want to see more of this journal ‘s journey … 💖💖
Really enjoying your tutorial, hope you feel better soon, it sounds as if you have a cold?! Lots of liquids and lemon!! Thank you for your company. Armande (from Britain and France)
this is great i’ve just watched the first part and loved it, also applied to join ur facebook group, i love how simple the pages are so that you can go to town with the decorations etc, tfs xxx
I've thought perhaps the term junk journal was a rebellion against the expense of scrapbooking supplies and increasing "OCD-ness" of the scrapbooking community. I see a huge appreciation for those lost little bits which we use. It drew me in as I had not known anyone else who felt the same way...in fact, some family members ridiculed me for it. When I see discussions about whether the journals are "art" or "craft", this seems to revolve more around the artist's perception of themselves and not what they make.
Thank you for your most thoughtful comment.. I agree that it appeared in rebellion.. and I understand that completely as I began in the rigid world of Fine Art and moved to Mixed Media for the same reason.. but as I have said before, no matter what materials are used the end process is art. I grant you ... it might not be GOOD art, but it is art nonetheless and to call it Junk is demeaning to Mixed Media and sets us back. Many of us have been working toward an acceptance of Mixed Media as a true art form and it should be considered fine art ... the junk label is not helpful...
Secretly, I loved the black cover the best bc of that image…sooo gorgeous! I’m thrilled with all the goodness you’re putting inside it. The reminders you mention, scale etc is very helpful. Thank you for all of the time and artistic energy you put into these videos. And would you know it?…..I’m reading Abigail Wilson's Regency period mystery/suspense, “The Vanishing At Loxby Manor”. It's written in the somewhat Christian world view so no gore, no bad language. Her writing is wonderful. Rest up and continue adding beauty to this expressive Art journal. Til next time…❤️😘❤️
Great minds! No gore in Austen either!! So glad you liked it.. it was my favorite too..such a great illustration.. it seemed natural to make it all about women.. we will post in the group.. chat there! 🥰♥️😘
I have made altered books for years and made smash books for trips we have taken. I really dislike the term junk journal. Thank you for showing your process I always use paper for hinging but now I am looking for fabric.
Oh my heavens!! That would be really time consuming.. basically this is my advice.. ASK …just ask if it’s ok to use an element or an image.. if you cannot find anyone to ask, then make it so different fro the original that no one would know.. 😉😘
@@CaterinaGiglio Thank you for your quick reply! If you purchased cards or magazines to use in an artwork that would still necessitate asking for permission? I think there is a date at which point the image is in public domain. I have seen magazine images from the forties used in collages - Found objects and images, used in the style of Braque or Cornell, would you be left open to copyright issues? If anyone has a favorite site that clearly addresses these issues for artists, please share! Very tricky terrain! Thanks again Cat!
@@artmamalowe well I never use things after about 1910. That way I am pretty sure it probably is no longer being printed.. but that is how I deal with It.. if it is newer I just email the company.
Hi Cat, so enjoying this "Altered book" tutorial, can I ask by "gessoing" (if that's a word) the pages do they stick together when dry. Thank you again.. Big Hugs Sandra xx
Gessoing is indeed a word, just like painting. Online editing programs will red--line it because they have a stunted vocabulary and extremely poor understanding of how the English language works. You can almost always make a noun into a verb by adding a suffix like -ing or -ed.
Happy Saturday to you both, I have been missing your videos..Are you on hiatus? Holiday vaca?? planning more wonderful videos?? Hope all is good and we will see you soon. Lucia
