Oh my! I didn't even realize this had a name. My friends and I used to make 'fabric' with our lined paper in high school in the early 80's. I guess the paper back then had a higher cotton content. We would do this in math class when we were bored. No oil or anything, we would just keep crinkling the paper over and over and OVER again until it was no longer paper. I think it would be neat to write on the paper first and use this as a way to 'preserve' the image of the writing/message. Oh, and I have the perfect steel button for your layered project! ;)

This is new to me…I just tried it with ordinary hand cream and a newspaper picture …it turned out great. I have an interesting image to add to my next project. I love that it has a name …makes it seem much more “arty”… Can’t wait to try it with larger and more complicated papers, perhaps draw on the paper first…or after …lots of fun ahead.

Fascinating! I have never seen anyone smush up watercolor paper before! After I finished watching, I happened upon a piece of watercolor paper that had lost its sizing and had an aha moment! It folded and rolled and crinkled up beautifully! I finally have something to do with papers that have gone bad! Not sure I will want to use the side with the funky fish on it. Next I will have to rewatch the video to refresh my memory on how to put this together! Seriously fun!

I discovered this technique by chance and kept doing it using all kinds of paper , only recently discovered it was a Japanese technique called monogamist. I have printed beautiful flowers onto photocopy paper , crumpled it and used the flares on quilts along with fabric flowers, no one realized that some of the flowers were paper, never oiled my papers

Hi Cat and Don! So happy to see a new video from you guys!!
Funny how a couple weeks ago I learned about momigami in someone's YT video, and now I see it on your channel! I have "researched" the technique and watched a few videos since first hearing about it, but I never saw anyone using coconut oil... I love how you get a completely different look when you add the paint! Thanks for showing us both pieces for comparison.
I never thought of using any oil, but I use water. I just had this idea because I'm very impatient and always try to find ways to get things done a little faster, especially when I want to try a new technique 😄
The water definitely makes the paper more fragile and vulnerable, but I don't really mind because I don't mind a few rips.
Looking forward to seeing more videos soon!! 🤗💕

Oh! I hope my comment didn't upset you, Cat!! I really didn't mean anything bad when I mentioned seeing the momigami technique in someone else's video. I just find it funny 😄
And seeing your video reminded me of the technique and made me feel like playing with my paper bits again... sending you big hugs!! 🤗💕

This is a wonderful technique thanks for sharing with us. How does the coconut oil react with the paper over time or react with cloth sewn onto it? I guess I'll have to experiment.

Nice! Fun! Really love it! I wonder what would happen if you would wet the paper thoroughly first before you start crunching. Think it will go well with pressed florals and greenery.

Wow, interesting to use the coconut oil in the paper. I love using craft paper for projects, now I will try the coconut oil to give it that soft feel. Interesting how the paper without oil, shows absorption in the folds, presumably where the fibers are compromised by folding. But the oiled paper blends color better. Must be the oil seals the whole surface so color is more evenly distributed. Interesting. ~Mr Paris

After watching your video, I had to try this! I found I preferred the lighter weight papers over the thicker ones. Painter's paper worked really well.
