wow, just amazing transformation. i have really enjoyed watching this. i hope you have handwritten in a message and the date of rebinding for the person who pulls this off a shelf in another 100 years. thank you for the videos
Adding notes to a rebound book is actually recommended in the manual I just read, so I intend to do that for this one. edit - I'm pinning this comment thread to the top, as the question seems to be coming up a lot. Perhaps I'll make an addendum video on the subject.
Came here to ask the same question. Imagine the thrill of finding that note in 100 years, and feeling even more connected to the total story of the artifact. Thanks for the great content!
I agree! I think people who do restorations generally do not document themselves enough on their work! Humility, consideration, and no small dose of hesitation may stay their hand after working to remove superfluous markings, but I firmly believe that adding specific notes only adds to the intrigue and value of the end result! I encourage people to write a note within a book Any Time it is gifted, or otherwise changes hands. Thus the unique story continues, and a richer experience is forged.
Me too! I really like how he takes a lot of the mystery out of the process though as he showed on the leather corners there are a variety of techniques to binding.
If you take suggestion I would love another series of rebinding a classic, similair to your dune one. Maybe something like the hobbit or a collection of fairytales
Less elaborate that the ones you've been doing recently but just as satisfying. I look forward to the day where you're confident enough with the gold to do it directly on the book! I love that bookbinding seems to be an eternal learning process.
It certainly is, which is part of the joy of it. I love when I discover some new tip or technique that solves a problem I've experienced personally. Thanks for watching!
So many tips and tricks! It's fabulous that you were able to salvage that book in such an elegant way. Really appreciate that you share your knowledge. Thanks for the great videos.
I've been waiting patiently for Episode 3. And it was well worth the wait. It is amazing to see the difference in the book afterwards. So magical to watch. Thank you Sir for sharing your skills.
I hope you put a label in it somewhere saying you rebound the book in 2024. That would be really interesting information for someone who ends up with this book in 50 plus years!
I was excited when UA-cam algorithm marketed us up as I’ve wanted to hand bind books and repair old ones since I was a teenager. The idea is still fascinating but I’m not sure I would ever want to mess with the leather decoration.

this makes you understand why in the times of our great grandparents books where so damm expensive and why having lots of books was indeed a sign of wealth, it takes a lot of time, care and effort to do this type of work.
Fantastic as always -- and I swear that book is smiling. You're the fairy godfather of neglected books; that one's gone from Cinder-fella to Prince Charming.
I have no idea why I am so absolutely enchanted with watching you work but I truly am. You are a MASTER. I could use a 100 words to describe what I think of the quality of your work. Like superlative and magnificent, but I was thinking as I watched this; perhaps Tennyson would be honored to see the love and meticulous care you put into the preservation of this book. Albeit his work. I think that would be the highest compliment. Thank you!
What you can do to get the cloth level to the leather, is to flatten all underlaying leather as much as possible with your bonefolder or a flat brass pallet, also the leather on the board edges and internals, gives a real nice look if everything merges into eachother.
It would be a harder ask that I not tune back in to see what you get up to next, I think. It's fascinating and inspiring. One of your prior playlists is why I've obtained the non-adhesive binding book and some rudimentary supplies to get started. Thank you for sharing the craft and your love of it.
I find your content easily the most enjoyable content I have ever watched on this platform. The way you teach and the lessons you give during the process about patience and paying attention to the details are just so comforting. I'm a book binding teacher myself and these are really helpful and inspiring, thank you!
I started bookbinding when I was a preteen so I’ve been doing it for half my life. Life gets in the way and I haven’t bound anything for years until i found your channel. Now i am practicing marbling paper almost every day and I’m starting a new book project. So thanks!
I've watched enough FKBA videos to know the results will be amazing but I'm still never prepared for just how dazzling each new project turns out! 😲😎📖🧙👏
One of the best Channel UA-cam, the videography, the attention to detail and the high quality nature of it not to mention the time you take to rebind these books. It truly shows passion and love for what you do and i will continue to support.
Thanks to your videos I've now almost completely restored an extremely important to me book from 1926 which used to be completely falling apart. Thank you so very much Dennis!
Seeing such attention and care given to objects with value so easily overlooked gives me a pleasure I cannot easily explain. It just feels 'right', 'goodly', and even 'noble' in its own unique way… Keep up the good work! Future generations send their gratitude! 🤓❤️❤️❤️
I have to applaud the quality of the video editing here. It's easy to feel transported into Dennis's workshop as he explains and demonstrates everything in such a well-paced manner Thank you so much for yet another great book binding series. I can't wait for the next one 😊
Hi Dennis, Thank you for taking the time and trouble to video this amazing restoration and share this truly wonderful transformation, it is a view into the work that book restoration requires and you with the video have shown the skills that bring a 130-year-old book back to life. Your attention to detail is incredible and the dedication that you commit is a credit to you. Thank you Dennis and I eagerly await further videos from your Binary. 10/10 5*****
I just finished watch the full series of your DnD book creation. You sir are one heck of a book maker. You've gained a fan and a sub. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I have an 1860s copy of the Collected works of Percy Bysse Shelley and can only hope to achieve a result half as good as this. Thank you so much for creating and sharing this series and giving me the inspiration to do what needs to be done.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Thanks to your videos I’ve been able to make a 7 volume set for a series I can’t get a physical copy, your channel has truly made me appreciate all the incredible work that goes into make a book by hand.
these videos are so deeply satisfying. someday im gonna finish my book and i hope it could get printed in something as gorgeous as this, even if just for a personal copy lol
For me these restorations videos are the most relaxing things to watch. Thank you very much for them. Great work on that book too, it really is an impressive transformation!
I have absolutely loved watching your videos, and I would absolutely love to see you restore an older copy of one of the Sherlock Holmes stories. seeing your interpretation/ re-imagining of a cover for a book like that would be very interesting.
Words cannot describe how happy your videos make me! I look forward to each new video you upload, and what new project you'll be working on. Please keep up your extraordinary work! And thank you for bringing us with you.
This was such a fun, interesting, informative watch! I've been interested in bookbinding for years now, and it's really cool to see a channel like yours dedicated to teaching others about the craft. I look forward to seeing what book adventures you get up to in the future!

@@FourKeysBookArts well if you do make another video ill come watch it. :D
I just wanted to share, that thanks to your videos I started and made my first notebook in leather c::
That is awesome!
This has easily become one of my favorite channels on UA-cam.
I'll be honest, when I saw books bound like this I thought the book cloth went _under_ the leather. Learn something new every day.
Me too! I really like how he takes a lot of the mystery out of the process though as he showed on the leather corners there are a variety of techniques to binding.
I thought the same, just because it seemed like an easy way to prevent the fabric from fraying !
If you take suggestion I would love another series of rebinding a classic, similair to your dune one.
Maybe something like the hobbit or a collection of fairytales
A master class in bookbinding! Thank you for sharing your art with us. Your videos are superb. A joy to watch, every time.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Could you do the gold on the leather before you put it on the spine? Sort of like a bigger version of the label?
@@lornacy i imagine you would potentially get some warping of the text
@@lewisdraper1 Ah, good point. I hadn't thought of that. The leather on the spine gets stretched a bit, doesn't it?
Thanks!
I finally understand why my book clothes have glue spots : no press ! Just a brick. It’s enough.
A great thank you !
So many tips and tricks! It's fabulous that you were able to salvage that book in such an elegant way. Really appreciate that you share your knowledge. Thanks for the great videos.
My pleasure! I'm glad you found the series helpful.
I sincerely love watching you at work. Your process, along with your calming voice just makes this so much more enjoyable. Thank you for these.
I've been waiting patiently for Episode 3. And it was well worth the wait. It is amazing to see the difference in the book afterwards. So magical to watch. Thank you Sir for sharing your skills.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Watching this video was a great way to spend that morning coffee time. Fantastic work sir.
The blue grey leather with the russet book cloth is a very handsome combination
I hope you put a label in it somewhere saying you rebound the book in 2024. That would be really interesting information for someone who ends up with this book in 50 plus years!
Thanks for the half hour of peace and entertainment first thing in the morning.
More people need to see your videos, get on it, Algorithm ! We swear they’re gonna be glad for it !
Greetings and compliments from the Netherlands! Big fan of your videos, as well as your creations and restorations.
Thank you very much!

It's as if you went to the book kennel and rescued a book. Good stuff.

I like the wrapped bricks. As someone who's seen the paper made for the end papers, I know it was a bit of work to make them presentable.
Beautiful and understated. I really appreciate the work you put in on this one.
