- Maybe you've built a BIG BEAUTIFUL CITY in Cities Skylines but it's become a little car dependent, but you don't know where to start with PUBLIC TRANSIT. In today's video, we'll go over the BEST WAY to create an efficient well-connected public transit network in your city, starting by creating a new neighborhood, a walkable transit village connected to the city with multiple modes including train, metro, tram, bus and cable car. We will discuss the principles or good transit hierarchy as well as give other tips to help reduce traffic and create a more walkable city.
In this easy-to-follow beginners guide, I'll show you the BEST way to start a brand new city 100% vanilla. If you're an ABSOLUTE BEGINNER, we will go over the basics of the game, from the starting road layout to zoning, services and how to make money in Cities Skylines. We will go over the next few milestones and what to do when you unlock each one.
This tutorial applies to both PC and console players, but I am playing on a PC so some things may be different if you're on PS4, Xbox, Switch, etc. I have a few visual mods installed to make the game look more visually appealing, but the gameplay itself is 100% vanilla base game.

I can't speak to how it works in cities skylines (it is very car centric lol)
but in reality removing car lanes to replace with bike lanes will reduce demand for cars, and induce demand for biking, and traffic will get better. :)
A longer, VERY relaxing public transport video? I'm all for it. Well done! 🎉
Bike lanes are still lanes 🚲💗
I like to build rail lines first before I lay out streets. This way the fastest way between places is actually the train. The ridership is really good and the traffic flow is too.
Step 1: Delete all roads.
Step 2: B L I M P
Perfection: Achieved.
Blimps are too powerful
😂😂
I bought cities skylines a while back but hadnt played it. Your videos are making me want to do so now lol
😎😎
Your building skills speak for themselves… but your editing skills aren’t mentioned enough, bravo 👏🏽👏🏽
Great points; however, I want my citizens to experience the same dread I do when sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on LA's freakishly small 7 lane highways
Totally understandable, but I think you should go bigger, Houston...or maybe even Toronto.
😂😂
In cities skylines, even with ticket price customiser mod, the cims prefer metro to train even if train is faster or cheaper. This means that you shouldn't generally have both along the same line
Vanilla C:S goodness, good; sedated Diana, less good, but still good!
The new neighbourhood is beyond cute, modern, walkable, A-OK. The first metro line is a bit compact, but the rest of the transit systems are very well done, I think. The metro plaza, well, is effective; radical, but modern.
The Parklife park serves both new and old parts of the city, which is nice, and the pond is nicer.
I’m loving the longer content ❤ always very welcomed 🥰
Great video, I haven't been playing CS in months, but this gives me inspiration to get back into it!
So happy to hear 😌
I think there should be an option to upgrade or degrade the zoning
Means if a particular area is "Lower Density Residencial" then there should be an option to upgrade them to "Higher Density Residential" without damaging the actual demography of that area.
Because completely removing a particular type of zoning and assigning other type of zoning causes the reset of education level of the population and causes traffic issue because whole population from that area leaves the game and new population comes to live in that area.
Just found this series and the music is a great vibe while listening to you explain.
So glad you're enjoying it ☺️
Whoa, I had no idea that the trees didn’t actually go away unless you bulldoze them. The more you know!
I really like the vibe of your videos and am looking forward to seeing what you do with CS2
Thank you 😊 so glad you're liking the channel
Truly accepting my townie bias, will always like a video that shows even a three second long clip of MUNI.
SF Bay Area 🔛🔝
@@CitiesByDiana if only we had a proper city wide subway system 😥 It's okay though BART is kind of an incredible public transit marvel in North America.
Those poor, confused trains just floating in mid-air where their track used to be, lol :-p
But I really like your idea of creating a siding off the main train line to put the station on so that freight trains aren't flying through the passenger station!
Hey! A complete newcomer to Cities Skylines here - when you say 'tram' - do you mean the trams in the Snowfall DLC or do you mean metro? Also, this video is great! I just really hope that everything is available in base game because i dont have the money for dlcs haha
Sadly, trams are part of the snowfall dlc
@@CitiesByDiana Ah, damn - I'll have to get it when I have the money! For now I guess I'll use a mix of buses and underground metro/train for intra city and train for intercity
10:12 How do you deal with noise polution though?
Yeah that was my first thought when I saw her zoning residential right next to those noisy stations, I just know from experience it won't be long before they're whining about noise pollution. I always put a buffer of offices and parks around stations before zoning in any nearby residential.
Build a transport network for your city: 🤮🤮
Build a city for your transport network: ❤️🥰
as much as I love to watch your videos I have to say your city is too american for my taste 😅
You're in luck! I'm working on something totally NOT USA based for my next build 😅
