21:18 - Starts the Slamboree talk
Thanks brah
Thank you! It took me a few minutes to realize it was going to be another long recap of a show I didn't care about before getting to what I really wanted to hear
Addressing Meltzer as Kermit the frog 🐸 😭
Best idea ever.
The AEW shilling from Conrad is getting sickening. Just talk about the good old days and good wrestling please.
Agreed
Conrad's knees must be like really sore
🤣
Slamboree 1998 was in Worcester, Massachusetts. Another WCW event that got over huge in WWE territory. Crazy to think how big they got in the Northeast.
Chavo is a film and show producer, he's working on young rock! He's doing very well
Good ol Kerwin White is thriving bro
Let’s keep the name tapeworm going Eric I think it’s hilarious
I really miss watching wrestling on Saturday nights, especially in the 80's when I was a kid.
same here. It was the only wrestling I could watch since we didn't have cable and I'd hope to be at my grandparents late enough to watch it
Great episode thanks for all the insights to a really great time. Oh and there was never a question of too much Eric Eazy E Bischoff ! He owned that screen and group, put him on that n.W.o. Rushmoore.
Bischoff doesn’t understand that those numbers may seem amazing but I was 4 years old in 98 and loved wrestling along with my brothers who were no older than 8. Just because little kids are watching doesn’t mean the storylines are good. We were so impressionable but my dad and most adults scoffed at it.
Man I really wish WWE would bring back WCW as one of the main brands
Keep each show ran as a semi-seperate promotion with it's own rosters, titles, storylines, factions
Each brand would build it's own unique style
Not allowing any to cross over into the other brand unless through the draft or trade
Everything would feel like it would have much more of an impact plus we would get the big gold belt and the cruiserweight titles back
Sounds like a great idea, 22 years ago.
Yeah unfortunately no sting, no lex luger, flair , steiners, bagwell. There would be no reason to bring it back without its franchise players at this point
Just like that craptastic failure that was WWE's version of ECW? Why do people always want to experience shit? I don't get it...
LoL @ Conrad plugging athletic greens and blue chew in the same episode how hilarious...what a hustler! 😅 😂
Love all those guys were my favorites
Guess what I've got,......the WCW tv title, yes that long lost tv title, if anyone is interested in getting in on the bidding, THIS IS FOR REAL! No jokes, I'm listening to offers.
If you actually do have it, maybe reach out to Booker T. Not random posting on a UA-cam video. Lol
Their main show can't even draw a milly
A few things from a hardcore MMA fan of about 18 years (also a pro wrestling fan as a child and only just starting to get back into it now)…
Pro wrestling people don’t seem to understand the Endeavor situation. Nothing needs to happen between the WWE and the UFC. Being under the same ownership doesn’t mean there has to be a bunch of cross-promotional stuff, and I’m sure if there is any it’ll be very minimal. Vince McMahon and Dana White will continue to run the companies the way they always have and almost nothing will change.
Pro wrestling and MMA aren’t even close to the same thing. There’s no reason to try pushing pro wrestlers into MMA or versa. The vast majority of the time it will not go well.
As far as Roman vs. Conor goes, it literally can’t happen in MMA (at least not in America) because no athletic commission would ever sanction a fight between a 6’4”-6’5” 275-pounder and a 5’10” 170-pounder, even if the smaller competitor is the more skilled fighter.
The only way that could ever happen is if Conor competed under the WWE umbrella, and even then there’s a massive size discrepancy. I can a guarantee Conor has no interest in learning how to be a pro wrestler as well.
No one is reading that
@@Rschr101 looks like 3 people have already
I read it and he makes a good point.
Only thing I worry about is the management. Vince isn't going to live forever.
51:50 i think that Crush and Steiners allegiance to which nWo group werent identified by that point. The group had just split
I was in the balcony for this PPV with my dad. I was 14 I remember Hulk doing a run in.
Last thing AEW needs is another show, clearly they can’t book the shows they have why add another one especially on Saturday night. AEW marks and Conrad will use the time slot as an excuse. AEW is not hot at all not even close so why add another show? When WCW and WWE added shows they were on fire smoking hot AEW is no where near that level so this is a waste.
Eric mentioned Chavo's wrestling intelligence. Obviously, Eddie is an all-time great. I haven't seen Hectors work. Except for the turkey costume.
The Guerreros are basically The Hart family.
It's weird that they don't get as much appreciation as the Hart's or the Von Erichs.
Bret Hart Vs. Hulk Hogan matches in WCW:
8/20/1999 - San Francisco, CA
8/21/1999 - Reno, NV
8/22/1999 - Los Angeles, CA
9/03/1999 - Pensacola, FL
9/04/1999 - Tallahasse, FL
So that backs up Eric Bischoff's claim.
I'd like to see a sit down show with Vince and Eric talking. Imo...it would be some nice listening to hear each sides version and what they were thinking at certain points during the Monday night war
Elbow Pads|Knee Pads|Taped Wrists|MMA Style Gloves Past Present Future
Look Conny, aew is only selling that many tickets because of nostalgia! That's it......if WWE did this at the same time, it would have already sold out. Oh also the fact that punk will likely be there! They did this for that rampage show.
True. And it’s a big a event and their first time there. It’s not a huge thing for it to sell out. They can’t even sell out their weekly shows.
Conrad “Is it Not” Thompson
Conrad is wrong about what most MMA fans thought of Brock. Any decent MMA fan would be aware of his amateur wrestling background and would know that would help him a great deal in MMA. It’s not like the CM Punk situation, and we know that.
Did a lot of us have an attitude about it? Yes. Doesn’t mean we didn’t understand Brock had a good background for the sport.
True to an extent. As a fan from that era it was more, "no way Brock is prepared for someone with heavy hands or a submission grappling background." The first Mir fight reinforced the latter narrative. I was on Sherdog at the time at the irrational hate towards Brock because of his WWE background was off the charts
MMA fans at that time, myself included, did NOT think Brock was going to succeed in the UFC. Was he a good collegiate wrestler? Sure. But so was 2 dozen other known UFC fighters, and those fighters also had a wider background in combat sports than Brock had.
As Shane Carwin, Frank Mir, Alistair Overeem & Randy Couture have pointed out… Lesnar’s bread & butter in the UFC cage wasn’t to brutally knock out or submit anyone. Lesnar chose to lean on his strength & wrestling knowledge to get someone on the floor, smother them, then not even hit them hard. Lesnar would basically tap them repeatedly on the face until the referee broke it up and ended the match.
@@chico1680 yeah, I got banned from Sherdog around that time because Tank Abbott was on there one night (Jeff Sherwood confirmed it was actually Tank) and I was being a douche and talked a bunch of shit to him. Good times.
Also, just to toot my own horn, I predicted a first round leg lock win for Mir in their first fight, and also predicted the TKO loss in their rematch. I did not predict he would beat Herring when he did, but I wasn’t shocked.
The Carwin win was very impressive but the Cain and Reem fights I believe showed where Brock really sat in that division. Still amazing for the short amount of training time he had.
@@Voysh2Voysh69 yeah, he only did that to two people tho. People talk like he had this long, illustrious career, which never happened.
This is like an infomercial
R.I.P Mr. Odom
When Scott Hall attacked Nash,I was so happy and I was shaking like a leaf..That was a great moment for me because I really disliked wolfpack!!
Need to push the UA-cam premiere back an hour I work nights and look forward to it
I'm sure they'll take your work schedule into account next time they premiere.🤣
It needs to be an hour earlier to accommodate my work schedule. I’m sure everyone will understand.
Nick lambrose Diana myers Bill bush Terry tingle........
UFC invasion storyline! The UWO!
AEW fanboys will be home on Saturday night no worries they'll have nothing going on
🤣
No dates with the ladies. Just home spanking the spot monkeys.
😂😅
Lol Kermit. Conrad should use a different name each episode like Fred Sanford, Santa Claus, King Kong, etc
I wish we could use someone else as a source other than Meltzer. On most occasions when Conrad reads Meltzer's work it's so much word salad that it's hard to make sense from it.

Bischoff would have knocked the taste out of Mcmahon.
If Eric doesn't like the idea of Connor McGregor vs Reigns because of the size difference, then he surely hated the match between Mayweather and Big Show.
Really wish they had done more with bret
Lets not forget roh isn't exactly a different show either
WCW|nWo Starrcade 1983 - 2000 Past Present Future
Really sad seeing Kermit The Frog working for Mave Deltzer! Never meet your heros kids!
Connor vs roman is a bad idea
Conor would nit be committed to learning to wrestle. Rhonda was a wrestling fan that's different. Bad bunny and logan paul the same. Conor would be much better used as an enforcer or corner person. That way he can be an attraction and personality still and even help someone get over more without loosing. Heck a corner man for becky lynch would be good but becky would need to loose a few to show the need.
I think Eric’s Frame of reference is a bit close minded
There’s a large segment of the population that do not go out on Saturday night anymore. Lots of people work weekends or just can’t afford it in the current economy
I’m sure WBD had access to those numbers and a percentage of the aew audience that falls into that.
I doubt this is as much of an experiment as he thinks it is.
So it is now 8:30pm est. And AEW has yet to ankounce any new television deals let alone a billion dollar one that was rumored on the WON message boad. 😂 TNT did announce the new show which stole Nitro's logo, and now theres a whole new CM Punk angle about him not coming back. 😆😆 if anything today proves AEW is just as Eric said Tony's hobby. And the fact Conrad schills for them so hard is laughable. We all want wrestling to do well! But we also need to realize AEW while giving people a great source of income and some tv time has been an abject failure since Brawl Out.
This was painful. Bischoff still acting as mark for Hogan. “Hogan believed Vince would come…” The same Hogan who claimed to have been trained for years before finding out wrestling was a work? Does Eric buy that lie too?
Gross to listen to. “Slurp, Hogan, glug, really thought… not so deep Terry… he’d cuuummmm.
..” Someday Bischoff will realize that Hogan ISN’T always right. Or truthful.
Newsflash Conman, people listen to these to hear about the good old days, not AEW. No one cares.
Why are you here?
No one? Speak for yourself.
They need to put a time stamp on these for when they are done talking about AEW
Love the AEW talk it doesn't hurt or take away a thing appreciate the content
Yet you are commenting 🤣
Do McGregor vs riddle or Brock, it sells better
Eric Bischoff is stuck in the past he had that little 83 week run against the WWF and after that he was irrelevant he had the biggest opportunity to take down the WWF at the time, especially when Bret Hart came to WCW month after Montreal screw job but he didn’t want to hurt his boyfriend Hulk Hogan’s feelings he clearly had a raging heart on for Hogan since 1994 when he joined the WCW all he did was give Hogan his way and ruined the product. They basically gave the WWF The victory as a wrestling fan from back in the day, what is Eric Bischoff done lately besides this podcast because after 1998 he was hasband
First thing Conrad Thompson brings up, AEW 😂😂😂
So what? I'm not much of an AEW fan but it's fun hearing the business developments
Eric gives the logical reason for why Saturday would suck, assuming that AEW fans would actually have a life away from wrestling to leave the house for. ;-)
Why wpuldent he that's the most newsworthy stuff right now and it isn't close
So predictable.
Just conrad saying this is good for wrestling IS IT NOT gets me angry lol, I just think CONRAD brings out my temper without even trying too it seems, plus I hate aew it's so poor, it's on apparently over here on itv for free in England, only found out 2 weeks ago as I don't watch Normal TV I watch UA-cam 😂
Sounds like aew is grabbing at straws with this third show! Take punk out, and it looks like a long rampage! I doubt rampage gets more than 300k viewers a week, this doesn't count sports taking its place! Dynamite dropped to under 700k views recently.
Dropped to under 700k? AEW averaged almost 900k viewers this past week and topped out at over 1 million. The only show that’s dropping under 700k every week is WWE NXT lol
AEW is not doing great ratings regardless what some of their fans think. I’m not anti-AEW but let’s be honest, TNA did much better numbers. And of course they still like to compare AEW ratings with WWE developmental.
@@robertreams1231 And had a longer span of much more positive momentum than AEW until Hogan.
DX invading Nitro... It was a Jeep! Not a Tank! Same with Pritchard calling the USS Intrepid a Battleship for the Luger / Yokozuna Slam ... No! It's an Aircraft Carrier. You legit wrestling vets are smarter than this come now.
Roman is in the GOAT conversation 1,000 days as champion.
Lmfao
I don't think so...😂
Cut the bs. Wwe is not putting the top guy in the company who looks like a Greek god in a match with a smaller mma guy. Not happening. If you wanna put guys in a mid card and upper mid card position like priest, big show, and Rollins in a match that’s fine. But not the top guy. And people forget, brock was an all American college wrestler. He had a legit amateur background when he went to mma. And in my opinion that big show match with Floyd was god awful, beyond boring, and a lot of circus tricks were used to make it look competitive. Just my opinion. Wwe has zero to gain putting the star of the company in a match with a mma guy on the downside of his career.
If you dont think theres gonna be crossover you're kidding yourself brah. Doesnt mean its gonna be a 5 star classic, but its gonna happen. Too much money to be made.
@@Rschr101 not with the too star. You protect the cash cow. Go ahead and grab Günther or drew for that nonsense
McGregor is a bigger star than Roman. His size means absolutely nothing, especially to his huge fanbase. If WWE would book a former Disney child star turned Twitter star vs Roman, they'd definitely book Roman against someone of the magnitude of Conor.
@@chico1680 you don’t do it against the cash cow. Same reason why Kansas does not play wichita state in basketball or Duke does not play Davidson, nothing to gain from the cash cow
@@jaredgarrison333 you're assuming Roman would lose. All you need is one match for the big cash grab and book a fucked finish that protects both. Simple booking
I wish Conrad would stop stroking AEW every show. Meltzer junior. Stick to WCW reflection.
Just like Vince McMahon had a crush on Shawn Michaels, and later, John Cena, the same can be said about Eric Bischoff. He had strong feelings for Hogan and this is why we have a terrible product today who is really going to watch modern wrestling it is completely garbage you could thank The politics of WCW and the WWF for having favorites instead of giving every talent a shot oh yeah, last but not least Vince McMahon gave too much TV time to Stone Cold Steve Austin, even though he had a severe neck injury that valuable TV Time could’ve been given to someone else who was not injured but the people who run the business have favorites, which is why I don’t watch wrestling anymore. I just like the podcast and I watch the old stuff but I would not support any pro wrestling product of today
aew selling out wembley does nothing. remember roh selling out msg? what happened after that nothing. every smark across globe emptying their bank accounts to go to that wembley show once its over aew will be back to not being able to break a million viewers for dynamite 🤣
Yea Roman is bigger than conner but McGregor would beat the hell out of reigns in a real fight though
Yeah, Bischoff is high. McGregor would be more believable and a bigger box office opponent for Reigns than Logan Paul, a former Disney child star turned social media influencer. Bischoff wouldn't have a problem with AJ Styles who is about the same size as McGregor challenging Roman. I think it's Eric's anti mma bias showing here
@@chico1680 you don’t put the star of the company in a match with a mma guy on the downside f his career. Especially one smaller. Wwe has zero to gain.
Any boxer would take Connie to the wood shed and beat the shit out of him so fuck a Connie vs reigns have mcgregor step in there with Paulie maliggnagi and watch him get his face rearranged
Whatever helps you sleep at night bub.
@@jaredgarrison333 don’t worry they won’t
Those we hate AEW need a life, these shows are more then just talking about the past. AEW exist..get over it.
