Its one of the 5 mother sauces of French cuisine
Almost. You're thinking of a bechamel. This would technically be a mornay, because of the cheese added.
@@KyleTaylor-yy1vtthis was bechamel? They added cheese afterwards
@@boom5732 No, this was mornay. Mornay is not a mother sauce, but bechamel is. Mornay is derived from bechamel
@@KyleTaylor-yy1vtpotato potata.
not really...they are different, thats why they have different names. its not a potato potato thing.@@gabriellesailo2990
In our restaurant we have so many delicious sauces but for our signature white sauce we add butter, flour, milk, salt, white pepper, nutmeg, white onion, cloves, mix cheeses and oregano to use it for all our white sauce based dishes.
Especially chicken parmesan
Try it and thank me.
It will never disappoint you.
Isn't that one called Mornay sauce? Still a bechamel, but an "elevated" version.
I've made this and I'm eating this rn taste so good fr
Prove it. Email me some of that sauce
Eating a bowl of white sauce🤦♀️🤣
When you add the cheese, it becomes a mornay sauce. Yum
Finally the best straight forward tutorial❤
Once you add cheese to a bechamel it become a mornay it is no longer a bechamel
Facts
Thank you!
Yeah exactly
ikr
I knew you would go there
Bro i just tried it. Its tastes so GOOD 😮 im impressed
I always thought I did it wrong cuz most people’s butter and flour came out smooth and like sometimes but most times like dough like that and I just smoothed it out once I whisked the milk in
Really good. Chicken bouillon cubes instead of salt also add another depth of flavor. Can also change up the cheese and maybe add some paprika and you've e got yourself a really good base for mac n' cheese.
Knorr chicken stock pot? It's my choice, really
1/3 tea spoon of yellow mustard/mustard powder takes this up a level too
Will try that one day.😮
I experimented with this and too much is definitely not good!
Its mustard sauce
Just found out what this was today and made it to add to my pasta bake and wow 😋
Am I brave enough... am I capable enough(?)... today I will find out!
so, how did it go?
dont add too much Nutmeg 🤣🎄🎄
I can't even cook, but I just did it, it's so simple and delicious
Thank you for that video
Simple and delicious
White sauce goes really well with white fish. Fish balls (I know) comes in a can with stock. Use whole milk/cream along with fishstock and some curry powder to make a good fish sauce.
Its call Mornay sauce.
Yes this was a great bechamel recipe.... Til cheese was added
Kind of looks like an in-between of Alfredo Sauce and Mac and Cheese sauce.
Once you add the cheese its a mornay sauce and it literally is mac and cheese sauce, though usually its a yellow medium cheddar instead of a sharp white
This is a poor person comment
Turned into a cheese sauce. Yummy
How to store this? I want to use it for my small fnb business 😅
how do i make the shelf life a bit longer?
I want to make this to go with my shell pasta, but I don’t have sharp cheddar cheese, and I am not able to go to the store at this moment
I think it's pretty good even without the sauce
You don’t need to have sharp cheddar…I use Parmesan cheese and it tastes amazing but you could also do the sause without cheese.
that is the exact recipe my mom uses except she only whisks it twice.
Yummmm
You don’t have to necessarily put the nutmeg, correct? I have a few family members that are deathly allergic to nutmeg.
Heavenly
that nata in my country is literally buy it for 1 dollar
Once you add cheese its called a Mornay sauce
So basically Alfredo with a hint of nutmeg. Got it!
No, it's without parmesan cheese
Aka, cheese gravy
that's the traditional sauce us italians use to make lasagna 💞 it's called ✨besciamella ✨
Its actually a mornay with cheese..
And bechamel is french
@@retrospect4549 mornay is a béchamel variant, look it up on wikipedia. Its basically a traditional béchamel with the addition of cheese
@liz_027 which is what the video is, white sauce with cheese.. it becomes mornay with shredded cheese, I'm a qualified chef and have Italian family. You just said bechamel in Italian, but it has cheese which makes it a mornay as a standard bechamel does not have cheese, this was in my 1st year In culinary school like 10 years ago! However I'm sure we can agree, Italian = delicious 😃
@@retrospect4549 but you said mornay with cheese, which is a contradiction, because mornay already has cheese (I'm just replying because I love comment drama but I don't wanna sound mean hehe). Btw did you mean culinary school in Italy or abroad?
French cooks must be pissed at the name lol
Это соус бешамель с сыром..?
Just made it
Ill tell you how i did
If u add cheese is no longer bechamel sauce
True, but they were following Gordon Ramsay's recipe, and in Gordon's video, he specifically made his sauce as an ingredient for lasagna.
I made the sauce just now, it's absolutely delicious. My version was a little different I used pizza. Spices It came out pretty good for Meet
It tastes really good, but I added some chicken bouillon because it didn't taste like much to me. Just a pinch tho
i hope you used a thiCC bottomed pan and had the confidence to take it off the stove
Should the milk be hot/cold/room temperature?
I use cold like Chef John. Proper french bechamel use warm milk infused with cloves and bayleafs but i am to lazy to do it proper way and if i add cheese you will get mornay sause not bechamel
The better colored sauce and not the trendy pink or blue sauces
So it’s a fancy name for gravy with nutmeg….
Isn't this just cheese gravy with extra steps?
That's called a mornay sauce
Real.
How can you re heat the white sauce with out it getting clumpy?
add milk to thin it out
“In she goes”
Just call it Mornay ffs. It’s basically Bechamel with cheese
Can this sauce be used for burgers?
yes
Top
What kind😏
Its delicious on steamed broccoli.
Stop! I make my biscuits and gravy like this! But I add salt and pepper to the butter while it's melting!
Can’t I just use cornstarch instead of flour
NOOO
No. You wont get the same effect and taste.
Yes you can but heat milk & butter together, mix cornstarch with a little cold milk it won’t be exactly the same but it’s similar. The benefits using cornstarch is that it’s gluten free. But if gluten isn’t a problem to increase the cheese flavour without adding more cheese, add some English mustard.
flour makes it taste better
This is traditional English white sauce not Gordon Ramsey's.
I call it tasty.
Holy moly, this girl is a nube. She added too much flour. Then she added too much milk all at the start. A bechamel should not be an arm workout. You added too much milk to a very dry roux and had to sit there and whisk it aggressively because the roux wouldn't dissolve into the milk
True. I bet this sauce tasted overwhelmingly of flour.
So what's the right way? Less flour and milk?
Mornay sauce.
Can I sub coconut milk for the regular milk
yeah but then itll just taste like coconut i mean why would you
A neutral tasking milk would be best. Cashew may work well? You would have to experiment and see. Ive recently gone dairy free and it can be difficult to find ways to make some of my beloved comfort foods
It'll be terrible
It wont work taste and texture wise. Just get premade vegan bechamel or whatever
what do call flour in Hindi ? Is it maida or Atta ?
its maida ig
Don't tell lie its atta
Maida
Im rubbish at making the roux (butter and flour bit) so instead i melt the cheese in the milk, take a little out and mix that with cornflour untill its thick when stirred. Add the cornflour mixture back whilst continously stirring until its thickened.
Your roux shouldn't make a clump like that. You did something wrong
💀
Gordon ramsey byeeee
LOL , it's not Gordon's it's mornay
Why does it taste plain 🙂
Did you season it? You could try adding a different cheese as well. Not sure what you mean by 'plain' though.
@@KyleTaylor-yy1vtwould Parmesan work?
@@f00l70 Yes, I'd let it sit in the hot milk for 1 minute and then whisk it in. Parm can be finnicky because it doesn't always melt super easily so the milk has to be hot enough
@@KyleTaylor-yy1vt thank u!!
Try Guyrere mixed with smoked cheddars
Thank god none of that nasty ah mayo or sour cream
Noo, not the cheddar...
Who tf ever called it white sauce never heard that
Basically all of classic European gastronomy has been calling it that for close to a century now. So, a few people.
Ppl who do measurements dont know how to cook ifykyk
I call it cu
This is mornay
This a MORNAY sauce
You literally DON’T call it a white sauce. That’d be like calling Coke black drink. Or vanilla ice cream white ice cream. Call things what they are and let’s stop f’in around. “Dough in the pan” has a name too. It’s called a roux. Get it together if ur making cooking videos. And for the love of god add ur cheese off the heat or your sauce will break unless you add a stabilizer like sodium citrate. Otherwise ur cheese will be a clumpy disaster as it cools.
I’m no chef… but looks like gravy to me 😄(minus the cheese)
So the most basic way to make it.
Ew
I don't know what a bay shaw mell sauces but I know what a bechamel sauce is. Learn how to pronounce things correctly before you try to pretend to be a teacher of anything.
I made it 30384739 items 😊
That roux was so bad but ok 😂
Best gordan ramsey recipe.
Make a bechamel and add cheese. Where does he come up with this stuff??
😂 So true! There’s no end to Gordon’s creative recipes!
