It's quite old it's real name is fillet flowers it got the nick name "call the midwife" after it was seen on one of the "Call the midwife" tv series programs of the same name set in the 50's early 60's my mother used to knit this pattern a lot ( you can get patterns for the knitted version too) you can find it on Ravelry too and I think also lovcrafts and there are many on google if you type in free call the midwife blanket pattern

Hi Alison, 7 sisters! Gosh! Any brother's?! I'm struggling with this pattern. Can I just do one block with the flower in the middle instead of 2 blocks? And if I do just the one block what will I have to do to turn at the end etc.,? I would really appreciate your advice as I'm new to crocheting. Thank you Angela x

Please try. I am so blessed just by her voice of direction and hand movement. Alison is so patient. Just keep the rewind button like I Do and you will be so happy with the end results. Happy Hooking!

Fiber Spider posted a blanket using this same stitch in 2019, I LOVE THIS STITCH and was doing a search for it. I love the border you put on this one, thanks for sharing!
