Hi Austin. This is beautiful! I am Catholic and am wanting to do an icon corner. Yours is beautiful! Would you put the Etsy links for the items in the description? Also, I would love to see more videos especially since I am learning: 1. I’d definitely like to see how to properly light everything! Those wicks, the oil lamp, the incense. 2. Also, how do you use your corner? You mention you pray in the morning and night. Could you do a morning and night routine? 3. Also, it be interesting to see how you do things differently in an orthodox home versus before because of your faith. 4. What do the holidays look like in an orthodox home? Do you do a Christmas tree? Do you celebrate on the 25th? Do you fast or feast during Advent?
I have many more ideas of things I’d love to know! I pray Our Lord will bless you and make your channel very fruitful for Him. It is not often you see a man leading his family in the faith.

@@BeverlyKrumpelman Hey! Your the best, thanks for the message. It’d be great to make another video and show how we pray etc I’ve attended a few Catholic Churches and think they are great 😊 I’m a big supporter of western rite which is essentially liturgy of St Gregory in English but orthodox communion. So definitely love Catholics and western Christianity for sure.
Because most orthodox use the Julian calendar the saint feast days and holidays are different but every orthodox cheats Christmas because it is too big of a national holiday. Celebrating it on a different day is to weird for most. I actually think the calendar thing is super annoying. Haha It’s not something I get into arguements about. Some orthodox just fully use the modern calendar and good for them. Orthodox fast a lot too. So during advent you would be expected to fast 40 days like in lent. I would say that advent is observed, the time before Christs birth is exciting and a time to add a few more traditions, prayers and mediations into the normal routines.

Is a person justified by grace through faith apart from works, yes or no?

    • @austinfurgason3634
      @austinfurgason3634  5 місяців тому +2

A person is justified by grace through faith that works. The verse you you quoting doesn’t say, “faith apart from works.” It says you are not justified by works which we believe.
“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love”
So Paul in his letters is making the point that faith in Christ is our justification not works of the law, like circumsition. So people think they are right with God because they “do the things.” But don’t believe Jesus is God, or dont have a heart that loves God. So it’s a genuine faith that produces works and love for God that is justified. The trap is that your saying is incorrectly Paul and Christ teach that if you say or mentally acknowledge Jesus is God but live however you want it doesn’t matter your saved. And I would say that’s not what the Bible says. Genuine faith saves you which produces a love for God, his commandments, etc and if you don’t strive towards those things you can’t be saved you are offering lip service for some type of eternal insurance plan. Even you would say if somebody says they are Christian and is a pedophile. They aren’t a real Christian. So it’s not all about just the belief.

Of course you can have an icon of Theotokos without her Son, it is just not so often that we have icons of Her without her son. According to tradition, when Saint Luke, the first iconographer of Theotokos made her icon, and showed it to her, she said " There is something missing " and when Saint Luke asked ,what was missing, she answered "My Son" . Since then the holy Theotokos is rarely depicted without her Son, but we have icons made from the old masters of iconography depicting her by herself. A great example is the very rare and magnificent icon of Panagia Gerontisa, where the Theotokos is depicted in her older age, and this icon is in the central church of Nafplio Greece.

I say this in complete love, all of those things are not of jesus. Jesus isn't orthodox. He doesn't operate in a box. Read acts and Romans how Paul lived his life. He rebuked religious behavior. We dont need any of this stuff to follow jesus. Read your bible and pray. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you, and don't put any person as an idol. The bible speaks about idols specifically. Having saints to pray to is having idols. We can and should be speaking directly to the Holy Trinity only, which includes God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Nothing else is needed. I say this in all love! My family used to be Catholic, so being orthodox is in my family heritage and I understand it, but it is 1000% not correct. I pray you see this like my family did. I pray for a supernatural encounter with Jesus that will lead you to see that the orthodox church is not of God. Watch Richard Lorenzo Jr on UA-cam! You will be blessed by it!!!! Blessings to you!

I say this out of love too but you are deceived please stop following false teachers please ... Orthodoxy is the Alive more than 2,000 years... Christ is Alive in the Orthodox faith the closest to Christ's truth.. thus you don't know Christ's truth...Orthodoxy is the oldest Christian Faith pre-denominational faith given to us straight from the Apostles and early church fathers...Unchanged doctrine since 33ad...how old is your made up denomination..How old is your church? Which church is the oldest Christain church? Let's find out.
      The Ages of the Churches
If you are a Lutheran, your denomination was founded by Martin Luther, an ex-monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517.
If you belong to the Church of England, your denomination was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to re-marry.
If you are a Presbyterian, your denomination was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560.
If you are a Congregationalist, your denomination was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582.
If you are Protestant Episcopalian, your denomination was an offshoot of the Church of England, founded by Samuel Seabury in the American colonies in the 17th century.
If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your denomination to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1606.
If you are of the Dutch Reformed Church, you recognise Michelis Jones as founder because he originated your denomination in New York in 1628.
If you are a Methodist, your denomination was founded by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1774.
If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your denomination in Palmyra, New York, in 1829.
If you worship with the Salvation Army, your denomination began with William Booth in London in 1865.
If you are Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your denomination was born and to Mary Baker Eddy as its founder.
If you belong to one of the religious organisations known as “Church of the Nazarene, Pentecostal Gospel,” “Holiness Church,” or “Jehovah’s Witnesses,” or your Christian church is not yet listed, your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past few hundred years.But...
If you are Roman Catholic, your church shared the same rich apostolic and doctrinal heritage as the Orthodox Church for the first thousand years of its history, since during the first millennium they were one and the same Church. Lamentably, in 1054, the Pope of Rome broke away from the other four Apostolic Patriarchates (which include Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch and Jerusalem), by tampering with the Original Creed of the Church, and considering himself to be infallible. Thus your church is almost 1,000 years old.
And finally: if you are Orthodox Christian, your Church (which is pre-denominational) was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It has not changed since that time. Our Church is now almost 2,000 years old.
And it is for this reason, that Orthodoxy, the Church of the Apostles and the Fathers is considered the true “one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.”
(One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church means: “the one, sacred-for-God, Universal and passed-down-by-the-Apostles Church.” This equates to thousands of years of uninterrupted history, teachings, and traditions being passed down, unchanged through generations of Christians.)
This is the greatest legacy that we can pass on to the young people of the third millennium

We Orthodox do not worship the Saints as idols, that is a great misunderstanding from your side, we study their life, because it shows us how we must live our lives, they set an example for us to follow. When I venerate the icon of Saint Nektarios, I think about his life, his great humility, and what he suffered for the love of God. I speak to him as I would speak to my mother who died very young. When I ask of Saint Nektarios to help me, since I am very sick, I know that he can help me, because he has pleased God and God gives him the grace to help us, if it is Gods will. You are free not to believe in anything, but please respect our beliefs and don't try to undermine them.

You do not know love, and you do not know Jesus, if you are not Orthodox. You are part of an heretical sect that deceives the simple my misinterpreting the scriptures. You are called to be obedient to authorities, but you are proud, and think you have love. The Lord Jesus established His church, His body, on earth, and you are not part of the body. All you need is to join yourself to Christ's body. Stop blaspheming the body of the Lord Jesus Christ.

    • @dimil930

Think it otherwise. Its the same thing asking your friend to pray for you and asking a Saint for help but of course Saints have stronger prayer because of their holiness. Jesus gives this gift to his people, "the saints" as He promised. So saints are alive and listen to our prayers and have apperead many times in our world as Theotokos has done and will do again God willing. It is very common in Orthodox tradition to have holy men and women doing miracles with their prayers while still alive and answering prayres after their "death" proving that they are alive as Jesus promised for His people. And you may ask why I dont pray straight to Jesus? Isn't that enough? The prayer to Jesus is always a priority. Sometimes we dont know how big sinners we are like the pharisee, a hypocrite or a guy who treats people unfairly. In that case your prayer doesnt reach Jesus, you are unworthy because you don't repent and you dont say Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.
Then the saints can help with their prayer and get your second chance with grace and wisdom and be a good servant after that to God and people around you, be in the saints's path and then become a saint yourself. Thats the point in Orthodoxy. Be a Saint!
First Epistle of Peter. Just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
2000 year old practice my friend. Christ is Risen! God bless you.
