I find many of these Retro Tiki recipes need a kick. We have so much more available these days. Great add on the All Allspice! I agree on the spec, rarely does any tiki cocktail need more than that! 🙌🏻
What if we did: - 1 oz Appleton 12 - 1 oz Pusser’s Gunpowder - 1 oz lime - 1/2 oz grenadine - 1/2 oz white sugar syrup - 1 dash Angustura Still simple and somewhat of a Shrunken Skull.
I like the direction but Iv never been a fan of adding sugar just to add sugar. Splitting the grenadine with simple syrup just dilutes the grenadine flavor.
I used Lemon Hart in place of Plantation in your recipe and still thought it was great. Packs a punch while still having a nice cinnamon finish. I feel like keeping the name in line with skull or something to that degree would be great!
I went a different route with mine. There is an enemy type in old Resident Evil games called a Crimson Head, and I have a Resident Evil branded herbal liqueur, so I added half an ounce of that to my Shrunken Skull, and called it a Crimson Head. It wasn’t my favorite drink ever but I did like it better than the equal parts version. Also, on a similar note, BG Reynolds makes his shrunken skull with cinnamon syrup, he splits it with the grenadine 1/2 and 1/2 for one ounce total. Not sure if you already knew that, if not, it’s interesting that you went the exact same direction.
I've GOTTA make one of these! A good name would be the High Priest's Shrunken Skull. It pays homage for its roots and implies more power (OFTD) and more complex (cinnamon syrup and allspice dram).
i'm terrible at naming cocktails . I don't have grenadine often in the home bar thus I have not made this though it on the list to try. I would suspect it is on the sweet side, like the changes you made.
Were you thinking of Tootsie Pops? The hard candy shell and tootsie roll chocolate center lollipop? That may actually sound tasty to some people...I'll try it now and see if it's too sweet for me (I don't favor oversweet drinks) and may add if I have any thoughts...
@@MixingUpTiki Wow, you were not kidding Bro - the orig recipe was crazy sweet, like syrupy choc-covered cherries! Your new version is way better - I am very pleased with the balance! I love tiki drinks with a little allspice and it seems even more enhanced with the addition of the cinnamon - great job Brother!
@@josephherrera9722 thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. The combo of 1:1 allspice and cinnamon is something Iv been playing around with and really enjoying. Works super well in a Navy Grog.
Darth Raider - since it’s a darker color Skull and Bones - add a surf side sips bone straw Blackbeard’s Delight Darkness Likeness Just throwing the names out there. I am looking forward to trying your version. Tweeking a cocktail to my palette is always fun. I think experimenting with a base cocktail and taking away a dominant flavor and adding alternative modifiers and syrups is one of my favorite things to do. I would like to see more of these in the future. Keep Kraken.
Oh I like those names. Skull and Bones is actually the name of the original Don The Beachcomber cocktail that inspired the Shrunken Skull. Thanks! If there’s ever a specific cocktail you’d like to see me do, just say so.

Agreed. I was just having this discussion. We also have a lot better ingredients as well.

Oh nice! Even higher ABV, love it!
I'm going to try this with Lemon Hart or OFTD. Thanks for the idea!

Oh man, loved playing those games when I was younger.
I actually had no idea! Guess great minds think a like lol
Didn’t have cinnamon syrup so I did dem and added a dash of Ango. Really good
Yea the ango alone would do a long way to help balance this cocktail. Nice job.
2 or 3 dashes of Tiki Bitters instead of allspice dram could be nice too!
Absolutely! But then it doesn’t equal the full ounce of sweetener and 1/2oz of cinnamon syrup + 2-3 dashes of tiki bitters might be a little much.
Great sharing my friend
Thanks so much!

I've just kicked out the Shrunken Skull from my list as I do not like it as well, it's quite underwhelming. Gonna try your recipe out ASAP!

@@josefausto6467 sounds great! Thanks for the list. Iv got the book so easy to find all the recipes and go from there.
I had two thoughts seeing this: 1) I swear Andi already did a shrunken skull video and 2) this is not his first cocktail ;-)
Haha I did a short on it but not a full video. And yes this is not my first rodeo. Lol thanks as always for watching.
Interesting that you don't care for it. I quite liked it as spec'd, although it wasn't as "tiki" as many others. And yes, it was very simple.
Def simple, but I’m glad you enjoy it. Nice and easy one to shake up.
Blackened Skull?
Oh, that’s a good one to add to the list.
Dude! Do something about the horrible 90s clubmusic. Sorry dude, cant watch any more.
I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching.
I changed up the music in my later videos, you should give those a try.
