A Drink from Paradise, the Painkiller | How to Drink

  • If you like Piña Coladas... you'll LOVE a Painkiller. Most of America partied a bit too hard last night and is in pain, so drink these.
    **********************************
The Painkiller is a drink with a clearly defined history. It was invented in the 70's at the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost van Dyke, a so-called Sailor's Paradise in the British Virgin Islands. The bar supposedly got it's name because it's not accessible from the land, only by sea, so folks would wade in for a drink and pay with their soggy cash.
The drink is sort of like a more sophisticated version of a Piña Colada, there's no blender involved, but that's not saying TOO much. It's still a very sweet boozey treat that is hard to miss with. Everyone loves these things.
The Soggy Dollar is a bar I hope to visit some day, and hopefully sooner rather than later. As I mention in the video I'm an aspirant sailor, Just gotta buy that boat...
In the meantime though I enjoy watching Gone with the Wynn's, and you should too. Check out their channel via the link in the pinned comment.
    Painkiller
1 oz. or 30 ml. Orange Juice
1 oz. or 30 ml. Cream of Coconut
4 oz. or 240 ml. Pineapple juice
2 oz. or 60 ml. Rum
Shake over ice and open pour into double rocks
    garnish with fresh nutmeg

This idea was inspired by a friend of mine, who shall remain nameless... but we can refer to him as "Barrag".
His "duty", as it were (he being the personification of altruism), was to orbit the pub, making sure no abandoned Potent Potable grew lonely or evaporated.
As such a drink is, necessarily, frightening and will 'F You Up!'... I dub it: Barrag's Balrog.

If you’ve got a list of bars around the world, be sure to add the Buza Bar in Dubrovnik. It’s basically lawn chairs on the side of a cliff with about the best view of the Mediterranean possible. They lower your drinks down by pulley and it’s entrance is a literal hole in the wall.

As this drink in particular accompanied me/us for the last two years, it's time for a "Thank you, Greg" :) this is simply awesome.
I would advise to also try leaving out the orange juice and replace it with the juice of half a lemon and one egg white. Dry shake with spiral first, then add ice cubes (just big ones to cool it down, not water it) and shake further.
    Thank me later.. ;)
    Cheers from Germany

From the first sniff of my first bottle of Smith and Cross, literally it was as though I used to love it and then got knocked on the head and suffered from amnesia and forgot all about one of my favorite things for a decade or so., and that first sniff brought back all of my cherished memories and wonderful imbibing experiences with it all at once. And for that I thank everybody who brings this content to life.

I think y'all got the math wrong on that metric conversion. If the drink is supposed to be 1oz oj, 1oz cream of coconut, 4 oz of pineapple juice and 2oz of rum, then the conversion should be 30ml oj and coconut, 60ml rum and *120* ml pineapple on account of 120 being twice 60.

you guys filmed 20 episodes in a day?
I understand the benefits of having a larger yield production day but that seems like a lot. From 9 to 20 thats 11 hours as well. And it just might to be have some videos in the bank just if something happens and you cant shoot some other time, or whatever else, BUT:
Give yourselves a break and ease up on that serialized production.
Greg is just one man... or is he? ^_-

So we shoot like, once ever 2 or 3 months, and for a few days in a row, to get a ton of episodes in the can. I've got a crew and equipment rentals to pay for, and that's the only way it's even remotely cost effective to produce this show. Then I spend the next couple months editing and releasing content, planning the next batch, etc. It's a great system, except that the whole thing is slow moving boat, I can't pivot or change my plans because I'm locked into whatever I decided like 3 months ago. For example, when the GoT drinks kinda bombed frankly, I couldn't just do something else, I'd already shot all 7, and burned a ton of cash doing it.

    • @Dudae_
      @Dudae_ 5 років тому

@@howtodrink well that makes sense actually. It's a risk/reward kind of situation and I get that - you have to maximize your profit when you're trying to make something last long and that keeps the same standards.
But then yeah, you have the "not so great series" bits and it kind of defeats the purpose a bit of "if you'd like sth put it in the comments" but then it'll only be seen a couple months later. Don't get me wrong, I dont mean to say you or your way of producing things doesn't care about the community, but it makes the community feel a bit more left out if things don't happen in a near-future kind of situation (a bit like the Hurrican video in which you asked if people would be interested in a Hurricane disambiguation - a lot of people said yes [me being one of them] and it sort of left me thinking "Huh, wonder where that is and when/if it's coming).
Regardless, thank you for your reply, it helps the audience see a little more of the behind the scenes and understand the inner workings of a damn fine UA-cam show.
Keep on the amazing work so far, buddy!
