A. It’s clear u don’t need to be a works team to win anymore. B. I’m confident about Renault’s future w/Flavio now in charge. Whether you think he’s a cheat or not, he knows how to run a team + he won’t tolerate corporate know nothings interfering. C. Getting an MB engine will both increase performance while saving tons of $ that can go into improving the team everywhere else.
Short answer, everyone else has improved while they have stayed the same and refused to invest despite the series being the most profitable it's ever been.
The employees at Viry -Châtillon are threatening to not start the cars. Years of underdelivering, they thought they would keep their comfy work forever.
I heard that if the financial crash didn’t happen and they stuck around a few more years, Toyota could’ve had a podium-contending, perhaps race-winning car in 2010, something Alpine-Renault couldn’t do at the moment even if they tried. But they pulled the plug the year before.
I've been following your page for years now and you can really see the approach and professionism rise with each passing year. Love you takes and explanations on certain situations. Keep up the great work
Hind sight is 20/20 however looking back: How right was RedBull (Christian Horner and Helmut Marko seeing through the Renault rhetoric) at the time publicly saying towards their once 4 time Championship partner that Renault was uncompetitive, the weak link, holding them back. The words of Christian Horner still echo "We've been paying to fly in First class, but ended up with an Economy ticket". How lucky was Oscar Piastri to have left Renault/Alpine for McLaren, where he would otherwise have been a back marker, unable to show his abilities at the front against more seasoned and experienced heavy weights and the possibility to have a dull short stint in F1. A lot to thank Mark Webber for and for Mark Webber's coaching in publicity, media, team politics etc. His post will go down in history being a huge entrance into an F1 seat. The axe to Alpine and the management shake up letting many go soon after the statement "I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year." How wrong were the Renault fans in the way they responded and treated Honda. How right were Honda knowing and believing they had the ability, made to suffer the humiliation of McLarens finger pointing at Honda claiming McLaren had the "best chassis on the grid" can rival RedBull. When McLaren did receive Renault engines the shock of not being anywhere near RedBull finally rang home and the blame finally went to where it should be and management shake up resulted with their Technical Director being sacked. Then the Frodo Gate scandal appeared with great staff unrest which essentially Vindicated Honda who went on to winning ways with RedBull.
Will Oakes seems like an interim TP. If he’s someone Flavio wants, he should stay. If not, Flavio should pick someone else. Another change at this point doesn’t matter if the entire team is being redone.
Its slim margins but i have more hope for them than i do sauber audi. Unless every single person from the sauber side is leaving, that team is going nowhere. Theres not a single competent sauber race team member outside of their drivers
Alpine is like the modern version of the 80s Ferrari F1 team but unlike Ferrari that understand than F1 success was critical for their bussiness model this is not Renault/Alpine situation. Hope they find a competitive buyer soon.
With all his mistakes, Cyril was a better team principal that anybody who came after him. In those years Renault performed as a team and was right behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull. I never understand the move from Renault to Alpine and the management structure, where there was a team principal but then you have three to five more bosses and advisors over him meddling with the team and changing team principals every season or even twice in mid season. In the end, if the team is sold nobody would missed them, we already miss the Renault years.
Thinking again that Kimi was third on championship on Lotus. But after it getting ruined and Kimi being one of those that just increased the dept because of his success. Then nothing happen.
The mistake was to have put English people to lead the technical team, 30 years that we have had the same team to manufacture the car, 30 years that we have the same distrust and the same sabotage. Everywhere where Renault has succeeded, Williams, Benneton then again Williams Renault from 2003 to 2006 and finally Redbull from 2009 to 2013 it was thanks to its engine. It is incomprehensible to keep a British chassis team that has not been able to produce a single good car in 30 years...
