Exploration and experimentation, the twin pillars of human progress, have driven us from the first flicker of fire to the monumental moon landing. It's this unquenchable thirst for discovery and the urge to push boundaries that has carved our path through history. This quest led us to conquer oceans, delve deep into the earth, spark the industrial revolution, and ultimately, give birth to the combustion engine.
The dawn of the combustion engine brought about new possibilities. The horseless carriage, as cars were first known, was slower than walking at first. Just a toy for rich men with more money than sense. In England, from 1865 to 1896, you had to have someone walk in front of you waving a red flag to warn horse riders and people walking that you were coming. For years they were impractical, unreliable, and far more expensive than a horse and carriage, but that wouldn’t last for long.
But now times have changed and so did the perception of people about cars.
How did we go from horse carriages to racing multi-million-dollar vehicles on track? Well, watch till the end to find out more.

"Gentlemen, a short view back to the past..."
1985 - 1992 is my favourite period in formula one, the teams, cars and driver's of that 7 year period created an atmosphere that gives me tingles to look back on.
Ayrton Senna is my favourite to watch. Mind you, I was born in '89.
@@SupraSavtrue watching senna makes me entertained. The goat of rain
And than the sound of the cars! ❤🎉😮
@@mies766 v10 and v12 are awsome
God damn, I don’t think there’s been a more complete video of Formula 1.
Thanks!!
@@F1REVERSE❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤
3 hours of narrating, editing, etc. Absolutely fantastic documentary! This should be on Netflix or something similar.
Great work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I respectfully disagree on the second point. This is well above N-flix level
@bobbysenterprises3220 Absolutely, this is actually accurate
This is 100% what I was looking for. I've typically preferred cars that look like they could also be road-going. But I have started to really get into F1 lately, and I wanted to learn about the history via a long documentary-style vid. Most videos I found were pretty good, but only reached 20-30 minutes. Thanks, man. More than three hours is no joke. I really appreciate the effort.
Thanks a lot. Yeh I lost count of hours after the 40 mark I think. It takes time but I'm glad it has paid off!
Thank you. As an American who only found F1 a year or so ago after Netflix this is the complete history I needed.
And as a European who has stopped watching F1 after 46 years I would like to thank the Americans for ruining our sport..
@@simonvanderheijden432it’s no different from what NASCAR is currently doing both series are more concerned with attracting new fans and markets in spite of the core fan base
@@simonvanderheijden432🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@simonvanderheijden432What? It’s literally one team in formula one being HAAS thats from the states and they stink most Americans wouldn’t even know who they are to begin with. It’s more European brands and manufactures than anything else in terms of sponsorship, typical ignorant old man.
@@simonvanderheijden432 that's pretty arrogant to say. F1 came to America, just remember that
the '94 Season was very special and what's missing from the video is that the Benneton of Schumacher was down on power from all other cars, it had a V8 engine compared to the V10 in Hill's Williams and Ferrari's V12, what Schumacher did that year was truly outstanding in an era where there was no engine dominance over all rivals on the grid.
Normally I don't leave comments, but. this is truly impressive. Well done! Love from Latvia!
Thank you very much! :-)
it is good to leave comments
Normally I leave comments for a good reason (practicing my mind) - I have the time for that gotten. All features F1 is impressive all ways. Love from - does not matter - where.

@@KingCirclesindeed where we are is not important! We are all united by a love of this amazing sport! All over the world… but greetings from the US
I've been watching F1 for more than 40 years: Congratulations on this massive work! Required viewing for Liberty Media / Drive to Survive newcomer fans, no doubt.
#bringbackV10s
As a new fan of F1 (who's always interested in history) i appreciate this video so much.
This video will pull in new fans for years, and old ones too of course. Great job!
Congratulations on an epic 3hrs video on a subject we all love! Merry Christmas and onwards to the next era in F1
Same to you!
As a 4year young fan, looking at the old races to learn history.. this has been a eye opener for me... நன்றி from India....🎉
Hope you keep enjoying F1. I have for 32 years now, and it's nice that others are getting interested now. The respectable ones are more than welcome to come along.
The car shown at 14:53 is clearly an Indycar. It appears to be Mauri Rose's Blue Crown Special of 1949 -- a front-wheel drive, 4 cylinder offenhauser.
Got to that stage where i won't watch videos unless there atleast 20 mins long. This is perfect an I recommend you post more even before I've watched this all
Would be nice to add chapters for each year if you know how to
Chapters added! :-)
A tour de force of F1 history. Thank you for your cyclopedic knowledge of the sport. Back in 1968 I remember getting my motorcycle helmet signed by Emerson Fittipaldi when going to Kyalami on a Wednesday afternoon after school. We rode right into the pits and all the drivers were having tea. (You can’t do that today!) I asked Emerson for his autograph and he grabbed my helmet and signed it. All the other drivers ragged him by shouting “Emerson!” together. One thing I did not know was that Gunston was the first cigarette company to sponsor F1. The brand was famous in SA with all their sponsored cars painted in “Gunston Orange”. The racing Ford Capri Piranha was iconic at the time. Thanks once again!
Great video dude, as someone who's channel is long 2hour+ based videos I understand the time these vids take and cant thank you enough! Keep up the amazing work, video will do splendidly overtime
We appreciate that! We have another one coming in January ;-)
Great effort, a good watch 👏🏼 but i cant let you get a away with Michelle Alboreto 😂 ‘Mick-Kay-Lee’ for future reference
Feels unreal to be able to watch this for free. Absolute banger of a video.
"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting," Gilles Villeneuve
Steve McQueen said that
I've been a long time subscriber to this channel and I really do appreciate the 3-hour work that you have put into it and I love all your videos. Just can't wait for the 2024 season
In my opinion the 90s to early 2000s were the pinnacle of F1.
That was the last time f1 was watchable
80s
@@ShannonSouthAfricay 80's yes.
i wasn't even alive back then but i agree , i have watched plenty of documentaries and past races to say that back then it was just about passion for racing but the so called pinnacle now is just because it is bringing more money than ever
@@carnell7042f1 was just as financially motivated in the past as it is now. If anything, it might even be less so now.
People look back on the past with rose tinted glasses, forgetting how many issues there were… if you weren’t in the top 4-6, it was basically a race of attrition. The racing was good when it was actually possible, but I’d argue there are just as many good races in the current era.
I have now watched this superb formula 1 history documentary 3 times now from start to finish. What a fabulous job you have done .
Many don't know Sergio's dad is also a retired professional Mexico series NASCAR driver.
This is an incredible summary of F1 history. Really, really well done! thank you for making and posting this.
As a tip to get more people to see this, you could divide it in to separate video's for each 'era'. Not everyone goes and watch a 3 hour long (amazing) documentary about F1 history.
By making it more like episodes maybe more people would want to watch this. I think this is almost mandatory for all F1 fans.
Again, really wel done, and thank you.
Well done guys, loved the video, the hard work you guys put in really shows. Thanks for making this for us🤙
This video was absolutely amazing. Learned so much and got to revisit the glory years of the 90s by watching it. Well done.
Incredible, the effort it took you to do all this deserves more than a sub and a like but it's the least one can do, thank you for such an amazing and complete video.
WOW, that was epic. I hope the newer fans watch this in full just to understand why us older fans tend to respect all the drivers on the grid. Even though there's some that hang on to favourite drivers or teams, they're all brilliant. Thanks for this amazing video. This is getting saved to my favourites.
Man what a great compilation F1 documentary!! Absolutely intriguing.kudos to you and your team for such a lovely video. Thanks ❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Phenomenal video, one of the best and most informative I've ever seen on youtube. Thank you.
Just a comment to help that algorithm lol. Amazing piece of work, cannot wait for more longer form content like this
Now this is awesome! This is the content at least I want to see from you guys, great job!
I'm never going to understand why Senna was not instantly disqualified for receiving outside assistance in Japan '89. That rule has been around since the 1950's. He got a push start, it's over.
Drive to servive ain't got NOTHING on this 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 great job bro, really enjoyed this. . .
Damn dude. Appreciate the time and work that went into this. Really was amazingly put together.
Great video! Very impressed with the work to put all this together and dedication to each era.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m at the schumacher era and…i’ve got say, thank you for doing this. Brilliant, bravo guys. You surpassed yourselves. x
Just a quick one to say the YT keep unsubscribing me from your channel. Subbed again for the third time.
Merry Christmas!! We hope you like it! :-); it's a team effort.
Ok ! Then I'm not crazy 🤔 they've unsubscribed me too, not just to this channel...
Why do they do that?
Brilliant video, thank you! Can only imaginge the huge amount of work that went into compiling the footage and writing the script. Much appreciated.
Very impressive video, thank you for taking the time and effort to make this.
Think I've rewatched this 2 or 3 times now, simply amazing
Excellent video, thank you for the hard work. As a long time fan of the sport , there are still many snippets of information i wasn't aware of. For example the fact Lancia passed their knowledge and engines to Ferrari when they left F1... Really very interesting
I still love that famous quote from Martin Brundle "That didn't work Michael, you hit the wrong part of him, my friend." He knew immediately it was on purpose. Amazing video and a great comprehensive history of F1, thanks so much!
Thanks chatGPT, very cool.
i've only got into watching f1 in the 2023 season but wow the history of this sport is awesome, so glad i'm getting into it deeper :D
Thank you for sharing this video for free. Keep up the good quality work!
great video, amazing amount of work required to create a 3 h plus lesson about the history of this amazing sport. Congratulations
A great piece of content for all the new f1 fans outthere . Cheers from Portugal
Thanks a lot! Cheers!
The 80s for me because the turbo analogue cars were absolutely brutal
Fantastic video beats any junk on tv
Thanks 👍
They should just continue adding on to this video as the years go by
I woke up to this documentary what a documentary brah this is epic
Wow.... just WOW. What a masterpiece! Truly a great history of F1! Can't imagine how long it took to produce but the result, this video, is simply astonishing! 👍💪💯
Really nice my man, and to your team Excellent work ! :)!
Thank you BRUCE
Great job on this video! So well done!
A brilliant epos of F1. Well done
Outstanding video!!!.... Respect to all involved. Thanks
8 minutes into the video and I'm already astunished with the amount of information and pictures /footage acquired for this video. 😮
GREAT VIDEO!!!! Thank you for the effort.
This was a brilliant listen. Good job!!!
What a piece of work! Wow, congratulations. Spreading the word!
Priceless time capsule! Thank you.
This is so amazing. There is so much I've learned about Fomula 1.
Thanks for this. This was a perfect watch.
What a brilliant watch. Thoroughly enjoyed it 👏
What a find for a bit of Sunday viewing 👀
This video is a real accomplishment, nice work!
this is a great overall summery. it would be great to see in depth videos on each decade
Don't worry, we have more planned if this video does well!
Amazing Video & Effort/Detail !
This is so comprehensive! Strong work.
Im a few minutes in and this seems amazing so far can’t wait to finish it
I hope you enjoy the rest of it as well!
The Mercedes teams biggest mistake was to ignore LH's car advice, starting with saddling LH with the teams Albatross (GR). GR's track record leading up to joining the team was disappointing and, after 2 seasons at Mercedes, GR has proved that he is not a team player & has set the F1 record for having the most contact with other drivers on track (including his team mate)
Excellent. The new standard for F1 history videos. You are my go to for F1 info, all the other F1 (clickbait)UA-camrs are crying now that the gauntlet has been thrown, no, firmly planted in cement.
This is so well done! Merry Christmas! 🎄
Impressive work! Thanks for that!
Watch the quick and the dead, one of the best films about F1 ever.
Excellent video. Thank you for all of your hard work putting it together
Glad you enjoyed it!
Incredible video, well done!!
What an amazing insight into this great sport I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend watching this to all fans of F1
very impressive overview, well done!
Fantastic video, thank you!
Love this presentation.
Schumacher the best of the best
I watched the whole 3 hours, you are good
Awesome summary of the F1 history, respect!! The only thing I found missing is any mention of the COOPER brand, which were afterall F1 world champions in '59 and '60!?
'Fantastic content despite in some cases, the dodgy pronunciation of some foreign names and phrases.
I've been an FI fan since the early 60s, being the same age as the post WW2 F1 Grand Prix's modern era.
I rode my first motorcycle a few hundred miles in the rain (round-trip) to attend the first F1 Grand Prix of Canada at Mosport Park (in the rain!), during August of 1967, as I was already a big fan of Jim Clark in particular.
Kudos to the whole production crew including the archivists, researchers, statisticians and writers!

better documentary than drive to survive
Great video. Should be "required reading", so to speak, for new F1 fans. It's also a very sobering look at the sport for sure, when you look at the darker moments. In terms of most embarrassing moment, I would submit that the last race of 2021 was much higher on the scale than the Indy debacle. At least there, rules were followed, though it lead to a weird situation. In most prior controversies, it was teams doing something shady and against the rules. In Abu Dabi, it was the actual officials doing it!
BOOM - thanks for the compliment! :)
I suggest to make season 2021 as most embarrassing moment as the officials started their weird decisions in Bahrain.
This was great!
Amazing video. Well done
What a wonderful powerful and enlightening video 10/10 keep up the great work
Thank you, I will
The first World Championship Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1950, Ferrari weren't there, the organisers probably didn't offer enough starting money to make the trip worthwhile for Enzo's team, they did however compete during that first season
Great and well done video
The Brabham BT46 Prototype with the heatchanger tiles had no FAN like the BT46B. They were 2 complete different designs.
Wow it's amazing all the effort and work put in this!❤❤
Merry Christmas!! We hope you like it! :-)
Good job !
Bloody hell this is good!!
Good stuff , leaving some support
Should’ve used maps from the 1800s for the first US race, hehehe.... Amazing video about our great sport... that soundtrack tho perfect👌
Wonderful job!!!
Thank you for this
My first grand prix visit was in '82 i've been to many gp's al across Europe, 80's 90's early 00 were fantastic but they slowley took the heart and soul out off the sport. And sold it to Liberty Media was the the biggest mistake in f1 history, have fun but i have quit
