I had owned Chevy trucks all my life. Bought a new Silverado in 2020, transmission died with 5000 miles on it. Tires had to be replaced with 2000 miles on it. Back window rattled constantly. Traded that POS on a 2021 Nissan Titan SV, best decision of my life. What a night and day difference! No AFM or cylinder deactivate, get 21mpg on a 400hp V8. Smooth, sports car like handling, no rattles, shakes or vibration. I have put 15000 miles on it with nothing but flawless performance!

@@aludedcorridor6100 I have a 2022 Titan xd p4x and it is an incredible truck. I pull a 5the wheel camper with it. The camper weights about 9,000lbs fully loaded. And about 1600lbs pin weight. Pulls great.
I had a 2015 p4x before that and loved it.
My brother in law, who has always been a Chevy guy, and his truck in getting a transmission replaced this last. He use my truck to go pull his travel trailer, and was blown away!! He had a 2007 Chevy 2500hd diesel. He traded his truck for the xd, and is SO happy with it.
Call the haters of the Nissan titan, my comment is until you’ve driven the thing and or towed with either XD or traditional… you have no idea what you are hating on.
When the realistic payload and towing lbs of the Titan xd, are right at what the f250 (yes, f250) are… it’s an eye opener.

XD concept targets recreational towers, providing stable and confident towing (as mentioned by the Nissan designers). What it really is a 250 frame with 150 powertrain. It weighs 6900 lbs, longer wheelbase, HEAVY reinforced frame. But 5.6l engine… for the US it is on the smaller side for such a heavy truck (Ford 6.2l, 7.3l). Internationally, however, 5.6l is a monster. :)
If you tow your boat or camper on the weekends - XD is a great value. Stable, will get you there with luxury, and saves you at least $25k compared with similarly equipped F250. It isnt for everyone but for someone it is a perfect truck.

As someone who just recently got a 2021 Titan XD Pro4x, and lives very near you in Colorado :)… I agree with most of what you said. It tows with confidence, even in wind. It’s always super stable. It gets up and goes when it has to with that v8 and 9 speed trans.
To add to your list of things that they can improve upon, my biggest gripe is the fuel tank size…Nissan…give the XD a bigger fuel tank!!!!
10mpg when towing isn’t terrible for Colorado with a heavy truck and a big thirsty v8.
I have a folding bed cover on mine and I average around 17-18mpg mostly on the highway every day. (No trailer)
When I do tow my travel trailer, I’m pulling about 6500-7000 lbs and it tows it great!
    I love my XD.
Super comfortable, drives smooth. Way smoother than my 08 F150 that I traded for this XD.
Most underrated truck on the market right here.

    I have a 16 with the Cummins 5.0.
I was genuinely surprised at how overbuilt and solid the frame is on it. Its huge, and youre right, it will pull anything right up to and past its limit without making me stress. Try pulling 12,000 with an F150, you wont do it feeling safe. The Titan XD is a barge, a battleship that just keeps going straight.
A crosswind wont upset it much either… it has an interesting way of countering crosswinds, like it wants to straighten out, not go sideways. The fuel tank should be 35 gallons or more… there is a fix though, just install a larger tank aftermarket. They exist.

Currently in a '21 Titan XD and I cannot overstate how much I love the truck. It pulls out 28' camper, my three kids, and all of our outdoor toys (bikes, kayaks, skis, snowboards, etc.) without even the slightest whimper. I had convinced myself I needed a 3/4 ton diesel prior to getting the XD, but a serious look at my specific needs and lengthy back-to-back test drives with several HD options sealed it. My only complaint is the 26 gallon gas tank - it's a BIG miss by Nissan IMO.

I have always liked the idea of a "heavy" half ton. Nissan has a great idea but for some reason, it has not been taken seriously in the market. If they could revise the GVWR to get a 2500# + payload, they would have a real competitor. It would be interesting for TFL to compare this truck to a Ford F150 with the Heavy Duty Payload Package. Nice truck overall.

In todays wild climate of crazy fuel prices, and mega dollars for HD class trucks. I think the market is crying out for a heavy half!, something more daily driver friendly and easier on gas than a 3/4 or 1t. Ford do the F150 HD payload, 7850gvwr. 4x4 with a crew cab can tow 13.800lbs! I don’t know why they don’t market it more aggressively!

@@MrPW339 I hear that, I've been looking for an hdpp for months, if you want one you just have to order it. You can find xds all day. The payload on the XD has to be underrated in my opinion, the truck is built, probably heavier built than the hdpp ford is. I'm a slide in camper guy and I'm shopping 1/2 ton payload, it's a tough market. Most of the crew cab 1/2 tons have very low payloads. I don't want to be stuck driving a 3/4 ton over something I do a few times a year.

We bought a used 2021 XD Pro4X early last year and towed our travel trailer on a short (shakedown) trip, a 2 week trip to Maine, and a 4 week trip half way across the country and back. Our trailer is about 6200 loaded, 800 lb tongue wt and 10’ 10” tall. All handled with little drama.
The XD handled the towing very well. Only notable was that going west through IOWA and SD into the 15+mph headwind made the truck work a lot harder (jumping between 6th-8th, mostly in 7th gear) and MPG fell from 10-10-3 avg to ~8-8.5). Unflappable towing, even on the narrow two lanes, off camber in parts of Vermont, and always a comfortable well controlled ride towing.
Said by another, only flaw, SMALL gas tank (26 gal, about 24.5 usable).
Getting ready for summer now. Looking forward to more confident pulls with our TT this sommer!!

By rumors do you mean Nissan Corp saying this is the last Titan model then yes. They already killed the commercial van line and the Titan is next. Its a solid truck but not worth it, and that is why they are failing in sales. The rear axle is an old AAM semi float 14 bolt 9.5" ring housing. They put a 250mm ring and pinion that is only used only on LS Chevy Camaro. This axle housing is heavy but long abandoned in heavy duty pickups. Nissan F-ed themselves with this combo because now they created a combo that aftermarket parts are not readily available. They should have used the 14 bolt full float 10.5" housing that has thousands of ring pinion combos for. The Diesel? That was a disaster. Instead of designing a 5.0 v-8 they should have taken the 5.9 - inline 6 and started there. One of the best diesel trucks engines ever made. Nissan has built a reputation the last decade of taking poor advice and running with it. Most of my vehicles I own have been Nissan or infiniti but I wonder if this company is going to make it in 25 years.

The half tons became so capable (even though I towed no more than 80% of the rated weight). People want, want, want, when they already have it in just stepping up to the 3/4 ton, in the OP’s case at least. I would much rather tow 60% of the rated weight for a truck vs near 100% of the truck’s capabilities. Once you are near the top payload, or towing capacity, generally you are miserable towing at the 100% rate. There’s not enough power, torque, and that translates into the worst fuel economy,,,,,.

Titan is the most underrated truck in the market. This is what Toyota should have done with the Tundra. Both the XD and the regular Titan are solid pickups. It kills me when I hear the “expert reviewers” saying how they’re not as good as a Ram or F150 or Chevy, when I know guys who have put 300,000 trouble free miles on their Titans. This is what an American pickup should be; a big V8 and just a simple set up. They’re comfortable enough with just enough technology without all of the extra stuff that can go wrong. If you want a solid, reliable truck that checks most of the boxes ( seriously how many people need a half ton to tow 13,000 pounds?) buy a Titan. I’m the type of guy who will walk up and ask someone how they like their truck and what problems they’ve had, and every single Titan owner I’ve asked, regardless of the diesel or gas engine, have said that it’s the best truck they’ve ever owned. I can’t say that about guys who own one of the big three. It’s a shame that they are not more popular.

I don't qualify it as a 3/4 ton truck, but I'll take this truck over any other 1/2 ton truck in the market and I don't care about the towing numbers. Everyone is either switching to a little bitty turbo v6 or a v8 with the cylinder deactivation bull crap which totally ruins the engine and trying to cut off as much weight as possible as if their were making an sports car. All for the gas mileage BS. This Titan still has the old school 5.6 super reliable engine with an insane overbuilt chassis, stronger than any other 1/2 pickup truck out there! Ford claims 14k towing capacity with their 3.5 ecoboost, I bet all my money that little bitty engine will blow up before hitting 100k miles towing anywhere near that kind of weight lol. At first 1700 pounds of payload doesn’t sound great and that’s less than my F150. But when you see it’s fully loaded with options it’s a little more impressive. Fully loaded 1/2 tons are much closer to 1k pounds of payload. Loaded up Ram 1500s can be under 1k pounds. And the extra weight of the Titan XD would make it more stable on windy days. If one of the big three did something like this it would sell very well but it would hurt their heavy duty sales so they won’t do it. Ford has their HDPP but you can’t get all the fancy stuff from the higher trim levels.

    • @joshperry2430

Absolute truth, the xds payload is high when you consider it's a loaded crew 6.5 bed 4x4. Heck some of the 3/4 ton diesels get into the lower 2ks on payload. Ford's hdpp crew long 4x4 base model is 2590 or so, it would be much lower if it was a loaded truck. The aluminum body helps ford's payload. I'm a ford guy but you can't find that particular truck at all. It almost doesn't exist.
