Fuel Tank is the Achilles Heel of this Titan XD. Don't understand why Nissan didn't put in a fuel tank bigger than 26 gallons in a vehicle built almost exclusively for towing. If it had a 35 gallon tank, they could have become the darling of the travel trailer community.
Tow ratings are the biggest scam automakers do! Let's do a comparative between the yota and nissan, even use the nissan regular model, not the xd, and make both tow 10.500 pounds! The highest rated Toyota will be squatting way more and moving around, and pulling that way will be on the turbo boost all time, so mpg's will be worse than titan! I have a 21 titan, but I'm not fan boy,if something is better, is better, but the tundra is slowly developing into a Ridgeline, more focused in confort than real work!
I own am XD and towing with ut compared to a half ton is night and day. Especially when it comes to stability. I have a 16 platinum reserve with the cummins and it weighs more than many 3/4 tons so it is very stable towing. Had everything I need. Heated and cooled seats, 360 degree camera, and my favorite feature, adjusters on the dash to dip your headligjts when you're towing and hauling so you don't blind everyone. Fiel economy isnt as good as my ram 2500 work truck but my xd weighs more and has a 3.92 rear end so at 75 its running at 2000 rpm compared to 1700 on the ram. Rides better than a 3/4 ton and the seats are the best of any truck I've driven.

I know the Cummins Diesel Titan gets a lot of negative press, but here in the West Texas Oilfield, I see them often and have never talked to an owner that didn't love it.
Big auto manufacturers are hand cuffing the American Family. I tow a 7400 lbs. bumper pull 30’ camper with a family of 5. The payload on the trucks really makes it tough to Ioad a family, equipment for the family & the tongue weight of the camper with payload of 14-1600 lbs. . I’m a huge Toyota fan but the XD with additional pay load & quality of handling the weight was best for my family.
I hope we get to see a detailed side by side towing comparison with these two trucks. Tow a 10,000 plus trailer and talk about all of the differences in detail.
I have a 21 pro4x xd. I tow a nash 18fm off the grid. It weighs 7k loaded, with a 1k hitch weight. This truck is in total control, very solid. I recently drove from Spokane, Wa to theodore roosevelt national park and back. Lots of up & down big long hills, wind, snow and rain, with up to 6000 feet elevation in bozeman, Mt. Great trip! Very comfortable ride. I'm glad I bought this truck, its in charge of the travel trailer at all times.
I have owned 13 Nissan vehicles. Driven the Titan many times. Too bad they gave up on the 5.0 liter diesel. That was a great engine with tremendous power. Too many ignorant people bashing Nissan due to being fanboys of other brands.
Every single reviewer I come across almost without exception is very complimentary about this truck (Nissan Titan). Great value, over built, punches above its weight, confident tow vehicle, commercial quality recirculating ball steering gear, etc. If I have a 26 gallon tank, at 17 mpg/.0588 gpm, I have a range in the neighborhood of 400 miles. I need to stop to make coffee anyway. Wasn’t everyone lamenting the death of the NA V8 about two breaths ago? Okay it’s an interference engine, it’s got a 5 yr/100k warranty and the local store pluses that up. I don’t want to race it, I won’t take it to Moab except to drop off a Razer. I just want to drive it and not back to the dealership service bay. These trucks seem like the value play by a company that has good engineering in them. Maybe not the bleeding edge of tech or style, but solid and a good price comparatively. Local store also sells for the price on the window with no add ons. Yeah, if they can just get some in.
I still have my 2002-tundra purchased new. 250k miles to date. I love Toyota but am concerned with their shift to turbo engines. That being said, the Titan has had some transmission issues. With my holding onto vehicles for a very long time, which do you think would be the most reliable long term?
Titan has had some transmission issues? First, I've heard of it. FWIW, we have had small turbo engines in trucks for more than a decade now. Toyota is really just catching up.
I've own a Toyota trunda and I'll pick the Nissan Titan every day...I owned them all but The Nissan Titan is my work truck...best I've ever owned...old man talking...don't try to change my mind...I know I owned them all..Nissan Titan for me...
The handle is pulled forward then up it’s spring loaded The side mirrors turn down when switch is turned to left or right when backing up And the pitch of truck when towing you can lower the lights angled lower
I wish Nissan would bring back the Xterra or some midsize level RWD SUV to run with the likes of a 4Runner or Durango running off the Titan DNA. Thought about a Frontier, but why spend 40K when you can get a decently equipped Titan for not that much more.
I'm looking at the Nissan Titan XD SV trim because of the 2300 lb of payload and the 11,000 lb of towing. We're looking to buy a good sized travel trailer. Probably over 30 ft and having the extra weight of the vehicle and capability is what really appeals to me. And I don't have to spend 15 to $20,000 more for a traditional 3/4 ton truck. And if I get one that I'm looking at, I still get three more years of that bumper to bumper warranty. I just don't see how you can beat that
At first I thought the tow rating for the xd was a misprint. Never seen one rsted that low. Most are 12k+. My 16 platinum reserve diesel is rated higher than that, and so is my buddys 17 gas xd
@@nismomike3182 I have a 16 XD platinum reserve diesel and its an amazing tow rig. Ive towed my wifes food traiker with an f150 5.0 and a tundra 5.7 and as far as stability theres no comparison. The XD doesnt get moved around in windy conditions like the half tons did. It really tows with alot more confidence than a half ton. If youre towing in the heavy side the XD is much better overall than a regular half ton.
I love my 2021 Titan Platinum (non-HD). Best bang for the buck, paid an extra $1200 and extended the bumper to bumper 7 years/125 k miles. Still paid less than all the other trucks with this caliber of build!
A big difference in these trucks. The Toyota makes it’s horsepower with regular unleaded fuel. The titan requires premium fuel. The reason I bought a tundra.
Its 390hp on regular. You won't notice 10hp on a vehicle that jeavy, especially when towing. It will still run just fine on regular unleaded. I tow on the heavier side more often than not, and my XD weighs over 7,000lbs and thats where the XD beats all other half tons when it comes to stability. I love Tundras but I'm not a fan pf the new one because they no longer offer the v8. My wifes sequoia has the 5.7 and we love the power. They should have refreshed the 5.7 to make more power and get better fuel economy. To me the XD is the perfect compromise because you get the same stability you get in a 3/4 ton without the rough/stiff ride. I don't need a 3/4 ton for what I tow because im in the 9k-10k lb range most times, but I love thw extra stability amd confidence with how the XD handles the weight. Ive towed my tractor with an F150 5.0 and a tundra 5.7 and there is mo comparison when it comes to stability, especially in crosswinds or when an 18 wheeler comes flying from the opposite direction on a 2 lane rd.
I am debating which one to get so I rented a tundra this summer for a road trip from Texas to Colorado, here are some of my findings from the Tundra: it’s fast! Great LED headlights, good infotainment system, can lower rear glass, soft 4 coil suspension. What I didn’t like: electric power steering, awkward center console, seats too low for me (6’2” ) bad MPG, open deck cylinder block and it has two additional radiators for the intercooler (more things that will leak and go bad). Gotta rent a Titan to make a fair comparison.
I own a Ram 1500 crewcab. But if I buy again..definitely a Titan. I heard rumors that some Toyota dealerships were offering lifetime bumper to bumper. But I can't get over where the front grill ends & the bumper begins.
I have an 2016 Titan XD with the diesel and that thing is a CHAMP. it weights 9,000 lbs...that's heavier than some 3/4 ton trucks. since being deleted and tuned it gets about 24mpg going 55 And remember folks the transmission in the diesel XD is rated to 27,000 lbs! The titan XD is one heck of an overbuilt truck compared to chevy, dodge and ford for sure. it's sad they let the diesel go in 2019 :/ I heard cummins wouldn't sell them the engines cheap enough tho :/
I'm a Toyota fan and I just compared them all. At the dealer. I don't want a turbo V6 mainly because I keep my cars for a long time. But the quality of the Titan is very good and comes with all the bells and whistles that I want. I do tow a large trailer often. The big difference was the value. The Titan a much better value for what you get. I paid 45k for a 2023 Titan pro 4x. For me it was an easy discussion. I would have stayed with the Toyota but not this time.
Whatever happened to that nissan warrior? I remember watching a mini documentary about it. That was years ago, though. Was it problems with the 5.0 cummings?
So what is the vehicle going to be used for throughout its life? lf it is hauling trailers and big loads every day of the week then the V8 Titan would suit better, but for normal usage and best fuel economy, towing only once a month, then the Tundra would suit best. Long term depreciation would be kinder to the Tundra as well.
I bought a Nissan Titan Pro4X the same day my wife bought a Ford F150 with 3.5 twin turbo, the Ford gets a little better milage but I have had a few warranty issues with the Ford, nothing at all has gone wrong with the Nissan. Too bad it has bee dropped in Canada, I plan to keep both for a long time, as I am not a fan of electric
I don't think the Titan gets the credit it deserves. Great powertrain. Many report the seats are great. $68k is too much. I would go for the new ZR2 instead. Or a Ford or RAM.
Try to find a Titan XD. I have been seriously looking for one. I guess Nissan didn't produce many, but they are extremely difficult to come by. I'm still searching.
BTW, to use the handle in the box on the Nissan as an assist, you leave the knob tight and pull outward on the handle, pivot it and let it lock into place once vertical... Very handy if you don't have a cover.
Titan is a great truck .The normally aspirated V-8 will last ,I like Toyota ,but the dual turbo V-6 is a very complex engine and super expensive to replace once you get out of warranty . If you want old school reliability Titan gets the win .
Ok the Titan actually looks good now. Tundra always has. But these comments are so full of love for the titan.. never knew it was underrated , just used to think it was ugly and it was Nissan... but now time to look at the new titan seriously.
I know at the Nissan dealership I worked at when the Titan 1st came out, a lot of people thought it was Japanese version of the F-150. But the Titan has always been a solid truck in my opinion.
Sooooo Watergate? Or a classic reliable Titan with an amazing V8 with more power than most people will need? Yea. It's sad that now Toyota might be messing up the reliability reputation of the Tundra
@The truth hurts he's just talking about 1 issue 🤣there's build quality issues and infotainment issues and many more issues with truck on you tube and haven't seen so many new customers already trading them in 👎
@The truth hurts this is how people are informed with potential issues. If you can't see why it's in place and how it works you can pay for your stupidity 😏
@The truth hurts that's all included in reliability issues that people have addressed so it hurts reliability scores to a degree. Jeez wake up but Ram is #1 in reliability for the 22 model so take a hike 👍😁
The Tundra is too much hype, not sure if it's because of the "Toyota" badge. But in my opinion is that EPA has been ruining it for us with options of V8's. The V8 is a dying breed, and it's sad, because V8's were a way to reliably put down the power. I'm not beating up the FI V6's out there, but FI (forced induction) is comes in today's standards because of EPA. Now Ram is releasing the new Hurrican inline 6, which will ne interesting. GDI and FI don't go together, it's why Ford revamped the EcoBoost to dual fuel injection which take us right back to the same inefficiencies of the V8. It's a viscious cycle, and at the end of the day, you throw a trailer behind any one of these and your MPG goes to sh!t anyway.🤷🏻♂️

Just bought a '18 Titan nearly spur of the moment because it was 10k under any other full size truck available. The more research I do, the better the deal becomes. Very happy with it so far!
A very happy owner of 2022 Nissan Titan 4X-PRO here, purchased fully loaded for $60k.
This is everything what 2022 Tundra should have been, but they completely botched the new generation. Love the looks, the proper v8, love the fantastic 9 speed transmission, the interior is super nice, and Nissan zero gravity seats are extremely comfortable.
What is the difference in pro4 x and xd?
I don’t know if I agree with it that. The Titan is a good truck, but lacks the competition. The only thing the Titan has going for it, Is price, warranty. The resell value is also awful on them.
@@calebniederhofer6529 what do you drive brother? And I bought a 2017 pro 4 x about six months ago.. and you nailed it, warranty and price. I will say it is way nicer and pulls better than my f150 ecoboost. And more reliable but I wish I would have just bought a Chevy. I could have even got the 2500 hd with the 6.6 vortec 4x4 base brand new for 8k more. Smh
@@seanee573 19 2.7 EB. There is no way, that your Titan pulls better then the EB motors. The EB motors producedmuch lower end torque, and if it was a 2017 and up, would have the 10 speed. It a nice truck man. I would own a Titan myself l, If they had the crazy incentives. They don’t though. They want want sticker, plus a market adjustment. 2020 Titan was improved with the infotainment system , and 9 speed. Glad you are happy though. That’s all that matters buddy. I would argue right now, there is no cheaper price. They want Sticker, plus market adjustment.
@@calebniederhofer6529 bro. Your 2.7 eco boost has less torque and less hp than the 5.6 endurance that’s fact look it up. And yes my titan pulls better than my 3.5 did. My ford had maybe 30lbs more torque but overall it was not a pleasure to tow with. It was a 2012. I hate to say it but the 2.6 isn’t really made to pull anything at all. And truthfully the eco boost are proven very unreliable. Hope you got the extended warranty
I've driven them all and the Titan XD is just one sweet truck! Good blend of styling, power, functionality, comfort. When you drive the XD it feels like a truck without being harsh! Like others have said increase the gas tank size which I'm shocked they haven't?
I agree. He said what made it more competitive is a different grill for trim levels, a paint color and he likes the moon roof. If that's why someone buys a truck, then they don't need one or definitely likes soy.
@@TS-di5zw Not necessarily. Aesthetics and creature comforts still matter if you're buying it for a daily driver and not just work.
As long as the seat is half decent and it doesnt have too much tacky fake chrome I'll drive it. The base model seat sucks and too much chrome is my largest complaint about my Titan LOL
That’s a fair comparison, I guess the results will be interesting; what we wished for in the Toyota Tundra has been delivered by Nissan Titan 🤔
I beat the hell out of my 2019 pro-4x. I absolutely love it. Such a solid truck and rides incredible well with plenty of power.
I have the same truck. I'm on my 2nd Titan. I love that V8.
I said this a few months ago. The 22 titan XD gas engine is what the 22 tundra should have been.
I have had tracks all my adult life, three Rams two of which were lemon law returns, a GMC (great truck), Fords and a Chevy High Country (a step above the Denali ) also bought back by the dealership. A buddy of mine owns a Nissan dealership and advised me that he has my next truck. I asked why I would drive a Nissan, he told me “ best kept secret in the industry”. He sold me a 2021 Nissan Titan Pro 4X. I’ve had this truck since new, it is completely fully loaded, and is by far the absolute best truck I have ever owned. I absolutely love this truck, and standard warranty is 5 years, 100,000 miles bumper to bumper! Additionally, it has locking axels, and true 4x4. Thank you Nissan!
I have 21 Titan SV ...most favorite truck I have ever owned .....$52K out the door
Titan XD is the best heavy duty 1/2 ton truck period
Tundra with 5.7 v8 and the new 10 speed, likely yield better fuel economy than the 3.5 TT they used. look on fuelly to see how similar the 5.7 and 3.5 tundra fuel mileage is
I’ve owned a lot of trucks and my ‘94 Tacoma and ‘04 Titan were my favorites…
Fuel Tank is the Achilles Heel of this Titan XD. Don't understand why Nissan didn't put in a fuel tank bigger than 26 gallons in a vehicle built almost exclusively for towing. If it had a 35 gallon tank, they could have become the darling of the travel trailer community.
Cannot agree more!!!!!
Good point.
That’s the very reason why I bought my 2018 Tundra. It has the 38 gallon tank and I pull a 31ft travel trailer.
I’m still thinking of trading my Tundra for an Titan XD though. I’ll just find an larger aftermarket fuel tank for it.
@@KeystoneTexan I love my xd. I have a 2020 pro4x. The features of this truck at that price point is insane
Please bring back the full size Titan & Titan XD to the Canadian market. Great comparison.
I would probably go with the Titan XD myself.
@@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix I hear that a lot with the Titans. I love the adjustable headlights in my Tundra. That should be a mandatory thing in all trucks!
@@KeystoneTexan I agree! Tundra has been offering that feature since 2007. I dont understand why Ford, GM or Ram still doesn't offer it. Especially on their 3/4 ton amd 1 ton trucks. Nissan started offering it in 2016 and I love that feature. Not only are we not blinding oncoming traffic but it also puts the light back on the road where it belings so we can see better at night.
@@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix definitely a good safety feature
@@KeystoneTexan Titan has adjustable headlights as well.
Finally! Been hoping someone for someone to compare these two trucks.
My 2022 titan pro4x got about 19.6 on the freeway doing 70mph for about 1.5 hour.
I tow a 8000 pds trailer with my prox4 and get 11.9 mpg's, how you got 8? Even tfl guys did the same towing a 5500 pds trailer and also got 11.9?
I have a Titan Pro4x. Maybe I’m crazy but every time I see a Tundra the driver looks at my truck twice with a tear in their eyes 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I hope we get to see a detailed side by side towing comparison with these two trucks. Tow a 10,000 plus trailer and talk about all of the differences in detail.
I tow a 9600 lb travel trailer with my 21 Titan. Little tough in hills but it’s heavy enough to be stable. Gas tank should be 10 gallons bigger.
I love my titan!
I have the big tow package and i have never had a problem towing 10k and under.
@6:48, the max towing on the Nissan Titan XD is not 9700 lbs. Rather, for an XD, it should be just over 11000 lbs.
ua-cam.com/video/Fwwb12qew4s/v-deo.html
I've had a Titan XD with the 5.6 since 2018. It's sitting at 130k right now. Zero issues.
I'd take a Titan any day 👍
That interior of Titan is SICK!
More titan contents, good or bad. I just purchased my titan.
Good choice…. I have 2010 I bought brand new best truck ever
Diesel is coming back in 2023
Anxious to hear what you have to say about the Titan xd!
Own a 06 excellent vehicle in every aspect of work and play, excellent on road trips..
The handle is pulled forward then up it’s spring loaded
The side mirrors turn down when switch is turned to left or right when backing up
And the pitch of truck when towing you can lower the lights angled lower
Used to be called “Heavy Half-Ton” years ago.
And the winner is Titan!!👍👍
The 2022 XD has a max of 11,060. I thought it was a mistake as well. The XD Pro-4X would be a badass tow rig.
2020 Titan XD SV pulls my 7500 lb camper very well. Tows similar to a 2004 Ram 2500 I had.
It's very sad Toyota completely missed on the Tundra.
The handle in the bed is spring loaded, pull it forward then up. Don't feel bad, took me awhile to figure it out too! 🤦
Tow Numbers on Titan is for the regular titan. The XD version tow just over 11000 pounds with confidence
It is accurate. I made a video explaining the numbers and showed my work where I got the information: ua-cam.com/video/Fwwb12qew4s/v-deo.html
I subscribed because of great comparison videos like this 👍
I have an 2016 Titan XD with the diesel and that thing is a CHAMP.
it weights 9,000 lbs...that's heavier than some 3/4 ton trucks. since being deleted and tuned it gets about 24mpg going 55
And remember folks the transmission in the diesel XD is rated to 27,000 lbs! The titan XD is one heck of an overbuilt truck compared to chevy, dodge and ford for sure.
it's sad they let the diesel go in 2019 :/
I heard cummins wouldn't sell them the engines cheap enough tho :/
Never made it into production. Only a concept.
I love my titan. If nissan doesn't curb the truck, I'll buy them again for sure
Which truck has more crew space? I have 2014 tundra crew cab lot a room in the back. But I don’t like the new tundra design and I miss the V8. Thx
Tundra.
68k is the platinum package, there are less expensive packages.
That flip out platform is a very interesting edition something that could be added aftermarket to the tundra pretty easily
XD is a dream for people who want to tow a lot with a gasser, needs a bigger tank though. I won't get one until they offer an bigger fuel tank.
What is the payload on the regular Titan
Nissan Titan all the way! Love that Endurance V8.
It’s not the best engine unfortunately
We don't get the full size Nisan in Canada anymore. We only get the smaller truck.
I like where Nissan is going with there trucks 100,000 mile warranty that's great. 👌🏻
Towing is higher than 9700 on the XD.
Depends on cab and configuration. I look this one up specifically. Range is 9,700 to 10,920.
@@Pickuptrucktalk PR just doesn't seem worth it if it takes that much off towing rating then.
My 2013 base model Titan tows 9990lbs. 5.6 liter 1st gen V8. Not even with the towing package.
The titan is beautiful!!! Love it !
Well done Tim!
Sooooo Watergate? Or a classic reliable Titan with an amazing V8 with more power than most people will need? Yea. It's sad that now Toyota might be messing up the reliability reputation of the Tundra
@The truth hurts thanks. I was scratching my head trying to figure out Watergate reference.
@The truth hurts he's just talking about 1 issue 🤣there's build quality issues and infotainment issues and many more issues with truck on you tube and haven't seen so many new customers already trading them in 👎
@The truth hurts its all included in reliability..when people complain its documented and brings score down
@The truth hurts this is how people are informed with potential issues.
Titans are awesome and it's a shame people don't give them a chance and I also hear the Titans are going bye bye.
Shame.
My 21 xd sv has 2200 lb payload.
That's pretty good. My 2018 Ram 2500 was 2100.
I’m trying to find a new Tundra and Toyota Dealer that’s more than 30 miles from me won’t sell to me. I can’t really believe it. Tim do you have any Toyota Corporate connection? Probably time to buy a Nissan.
Sorry, I don't have any connections like that.
@@Pickuptrucktalk @Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk that’s why we follow you and watch your videos, because you do care about us-the consumer, customer. That’s going away fast!
11,120 tow rating, but only 1400lb payload on Toyota? Factor in 10-15% trailer tongue weight and you’d have to have a horse jockey by himself to drive the truck. The simple math doesn’t add up. The big 3 play the same numbers game, so just pointing out the obvious BS tow ratings.
The Nissan Xd can tow 11,000lbs and some. Dude, stop trying to make Toyota look good. Lies. Do more research first!!
Can you elaborate on why you prefer towing with the Nissan?
The Nissan XD is like a 3/4 ton truck so stiffer frame and better suspension for handling higher trailer weights.
Half ton trucks towing numbers are inflated…. I drove my Titan XD prox4 from Texas towed back a 1968 trams Am on trailer …. It handled it like that car wasn’t behind us !!!! Amazing truck !!! And yes best seats period
I hate chrome. I also hate scrubbing bugs off paint. What to do…
Thats a nice green sweatshirt. Looking for a blue one if you know where to find one? :)
I just bought a titan a month ago and love it. I statrted looking at the others manufacturers. Gm was first and I realized they’re are having engine and issues, dodge is having engine and electrical issues, ford is having rust and transmission issues, Toyota is over rated and over priced.
