Glad to help you guys out! Great friends!
You are a merciful god among men!
i hope u made them clean up lol
These spontaneous collaborations are pioneering events. A small part of how we will expand the definition of community.
Hopefully, they cleaned up afterwards... watching them spray the black goo all over the top of the cart... 😕
You guys... nice to see the good vibes
I've been working as a diagnostic tech for 25+ years, and I'm so impressed with the width of knowledge that Jarod has. He knows his stuff about literally everything auto mechanical. Usually one has expertise in one or two areas, he knows it all. Hats off bud. 👍🏽
Not true, many people have the ability to know more than 2 fields.
Sounds to me like you boys can't stand a little bit of computition . look at who built the engine.
Anyone has the ability to know alot about alot or little bout nothing. All depends on how much time you want to spend working with the stuff, reading service information, absorbing it. The ability to decipher alot of the service information is there for the taking when if you work in a shop and every shop has service information available for makes, models across the markets.
People ask me at times how do you know so much about so many brands of vehicles.
I tell them all shops subscribe, pay, if dealer get it from mfr so we have to go look the proper information up.
Some people just think we're geniuses. OH wait we are as long as you know how to do what the hell ur doing..... Industry knowledge, years of being in the industry you see various stuff if you hit the Indy shops...
Tips for modern diesels: ALWAYS DELETE, and if you don't plan on doing that or building the truck, then lease (or trade in before warranty is up). I'm sure this engine and the turbo assembly would last 3-4x as long as it did stock if it wasn't breathing in a bunch of debris its whole life. Also the Titan XD isnt a 3/4 ton truck, its more like a half ton (I've heard people call it a 5/8ths ton) but many people push the little titan too hard and blow it up
I agree except if they were hauling 1 car in a covered trailer it should not have been anywhere close to too much of a load. If I remember right it can tow 12k on the hitch and close to 19k on a 5th wheel.
@wadeslayback9338 ummm, not even close.
More like 10k hitch and 12 goose
I remember looking into these trucks, and size wise it's like a 1 ton, drivetrain is that of a 3/4 ton. But I seen the frame on it, and it's kind of pathetic. I've seen thicker frames on 1/2 tons. So yes 5/8 ton seems like the best classification.
As a shop owner and we specialize in diesel I’ve seen it all. The new lp5 Duramax trucks are trash, the 6.7 Powerstrokes are trash and the Cummins has it’s issues but is by far the best mechanically in the Ram platform. We don’t have any customers with the Nissan but 3 and all 3 have been flawless so far.
Excellent use of the underwater Bond Lotus.
Thought I was the only one that noticed it. Lol

I really wanted a Diesel Titan but now I'm glad I went with the gasser.
You saved yourself a lot of bs and money. I have the 1st gen titan. Best truck I've owned so far.
@A-a-ron probably for the best. If you want to go diesel it's either ford or dodge. I hear some good things about the duramax but for my money I'm taking dodge with the cummins or the power stroke especially the 7.2.

"We're not in Kansas anymore!"
'Ha, but Freddy and Jared totally are!'
Parts guy: "How much brake cleen do you need?"
Jared: "Yes."
News guy: "Breaking news, severe shortage of brake cleen in Kansas, the governor has declared a state of emergency, several truckloads of Covid vaccine dumped on the side of the road in favor of bringing in the desperately needed parts cleaner..."
.... Carburetor Cleaner is Far Far more effective at cleaning the Carbon build up, it has stronger Chemicals in it... 🤔 Break Cleaner isn't as effective as Carb Cleane. You just have to let it soak overnight, to breakdown the carbon sludge that has built up. It worked on my EGR passageway.
I give them mad props for even showing this. The Titan could have just ‘disappeared’ with the excuse of needing something more ‘wife friendly’ (or whatever). Good luck.
Renault group need to be called out on their bullshit parts distribution. They can't blame Covid, they have been like this for years, and now its spread to Nissan and Mitsubishi.
@@Beer_Dad1975 I`m sorry but to me it seems more like an issue with cummins making an engine exclusively for 1 vehicle that nobody bought, and than not providing the parts to keep them going when they give up on said engine after a rather short production run...
Hate Renault all you want, bit I do`t think this is their fault
@@andreanastacio9548 I'd rather blame Renault... My dad owns a Megane Scenic 1st gen with 1.6 16v. It's working good but intake pipe, first one, is rather impossible to get or with price so high, that You can buy 2nd engine for it. And funny part is, that it is so common for those engines, that You can't find one on scrapyard in one piece. At least it isn't necesary for engine to run. :D
@@andreanastacio9548 That makes no sense at all - Nissan sold the vehicle and therefore have the responsibility for supporting the customer - I'm not sure if Cummins supplied the turbo system or just the long block, but regardless, it's Nissan's fault if they didn't order enough parts from whoever the turbo manufacturer was to support a truck that's been out of production for less than 2 years.
By your logic since almost every car on the market has multiple parts supplied by 3rd party manufacturers, no car company can be held to blame if you can't get parts for their cars unless they make the part in house. That's just not how the customer relationship works.
Renault group have an appalling after market support reputation, and they are now ruining their child brands Nissan and Mitsubishi in the same way.
@@andreanastacio9548 Nah. This is partly due to Nissan Renault not buying parts to have on hand to sell to customers. plain and simple.
As a former Nissan Diesel Technician/ Master, the Titan Diesel was bad since the beginning. Turbos goings out, EGR coolers cracking internally, oil leaks from the upper oil pan, DEF pump failures, and also the injectors going out
Was it Nissans fault or Cummins?
For the oil leak, from what I was told, it was a Cummins issue. There wasn't enough silicone applied at the factory.
"We can call The Wizard over, but I am not putting that in my mouth."
Words to live by my friends!
Jared is so optimistic, this is the kind of guy who tells you with a smile you have to buy another engine
It means next week he will be able to make his boat payment.

Wizard: Nothing
Jared: Thanks man!

>>Hoovie faints somewhere
They could just call BP to come recollect the crude Jared pulled out of the Titan. There's gotta be close to $20K in there alone :-P
Hell take the 20k BP pays him and get a better towing truck like any of the domestic threes 2500/250 diesel variant
That comment is very funny... wiz is not stupid... every time hoovie gets a estimation, how much his "cheapest of everything" cost... wiz always shows, what he will buy for the money... a yacht... house.. hoovie makes him rich 🤑
Ok i think some follow up is due because the comments being made in this video is missing some key points here. All diesel trucks including fords, ram, and duramax will have turbos get plugged up with soot just like this when the dpf plugs. The dpf plugs because of regen issues or def fluid delivery that doesnt help burn the soot out of the dpf. To keep this from happening you do need to make trips at freeway speed for some distance and hope regen is happening properly. Additionally the 5.0l is very common in commercial applications so when looking for parts it is better to go direct to cummins dealer rather than nissan.
When I read that Nissan had already canned the Cummins. I KNEW something was amiss. Wow what a pain. Also no parts available! Fantastic Peter
Its not a Titan issue, it's a diesel emmisions issue. I have a Titan XD with the gas 5.6 and i love it. Go gas or get a 6.7L in a Ram if you want a diesel. There's a reason Nissan discontinued the Cummins engine option.
@Alpha Wërks automotive I never knew that.
Until cylinder number 7 excuses itself from that 5.6
@@scottwhite5367 Nissan is warrantying and replacing engines for 100k miles if it does do that. I actually hope mind does it before my warranty runs out. I get a new (and updated) engine in my truck. Then I should be able to get 350k miles out of it instead of 250k.

Does she need the jack to change a tire?
Ya, but plot twist. It's actually a guy and his name is Westen.
reprogram the ECU so the EGR never opens and let the crankcase vent to atmosphere. No more engine shite. The DPF will still work fine too.
This is why Ram said "no thank you" to this engine. Hope you enjoyed Kansas!
possible, but I don't know.
I think if Ram had used this engine their would be a lot more parts on the market since Ram moves more trucks then Nissan (I think) so I feel repairs would be easier... however as far as the original issue that caused it.... well yea if you look at it like that, I could also see why Ram gave it a hard pass.
This engines still better than the pos Fiat they got in the current ram 1500s

It's called planned obolescence, worked perfectly fine. That's a car to lease 4 years or 100k miles, and then onto the scrapyard
@@Daemonarch2k6 You know that the intakes on diesel engines with EGR are supposed to be cleaned thoroughly every 150.000Km to avoid problems like this one right? It's basically considered maintenance. One that most people don't do until the car has problems.
It's because of the EGR and FAP and all that crap, but the EGRs have been around for more than 20 years now.
On gasoline engines is not as bad as with the diesel ones, but it still gets dirty and cause problems.
I wonder how that truck was driven, because normally it's because people drive like old grandmas all the time and causes that build up.
Nonetheless, since the FAP was introduced diesel engines have suffered a lot of problems.
The part about not getting able to find parts... where I live the makers must provide spare parts for 10 years after the model is no longer produced. I bet they could get parts, but not on time or too expensive. 🤷♂️

Wow, that one hurt Jared, his normal eye sparkle was so dimmed at the end

Agreed, right in the feels cause I bought one too. A sweet deal, 2018 with only 13K miles on it, just turned 22K. Now I know what I have to look forward to. I'll have to start planning on offloading it by the 80K mark, I guess....
@@shamanosarcasm9800 hopefully in the meantime Nissan/Cummins can figure out the issue and/or produce more spare parts so you won’t have to. I doubt Cummins wants the negative attention...

I have a ‘18 titanic with a gas motor, lost the tranny at 38k miles and truck is currently at the dealership getting a new motor with 41k ... guy at the dealership said Nissan’s are not built like they used to be. My dad had 4 frontiers and never worked on any of them, It’s a dang shame
A few years ago nissan vehicles had the highest lemon law rate among all manufacturers, I don't know if they still hold that record. Nissan vehicles always have radiator failures which turns the transmission into strawberry milkshakes, I have rebuilt hundreds of nissan re5r05a transmissions due to coolant contamination and it almost always destroys the tcm in the process.
That's because ur titan is a lemon. This happens to all brands. Most titans last a very long time even newer ones.
I use a plastic tote full of about two gallons of the harbor freight heavy duty degreaser and COLD water enough to cover the parts, and then let everything soak for a day or two, maybe three, then rinse. No scrubbing necessary, and doesn't quickly harm aluminum, as long as you don't use hot water.
I remember when you got this truck, that there were so many comments about how bad this engine was in the Titan. Now your learning it first hand.
Yep, and they are damn lucky to have friends with lots of cars, connections, and a auto shop business willing to put up with them to bail them out.
its just bad engineering, from the crankcase vent that dumps oil into the intake when the engine is under load (its supposed to only take oil vapour but dirty oil foams up under load) to the EGR that fills the intake with carbon deposits, to the DPF/cat that gets dirty and over heats the oil in the turbo, the dirty intercooler can't keep up, intake temps go up, EGTs go up ... and its downhill from there
Holy shit... Dumping oil into the intake is an incredible fuck up. I'm surprised they weren't recalled to be honest, that's obviously going to destroy these things over time.
@@gingerd2098 its a common practice in turbo diesels, mine would suck up oil from the vent when the air filter gets dirty, the dealer said a gallon of oil in 2000 miles is within the acceptable oil consumption, they even showed me the service manuals (1 liter per 1000km)
@@gingerd2098 it's common in most forced induction engines. These can be helped with an oil catch can.
I know that most modern diesels gum up like this. I have read that it has something to do with the type of oil used with the DPF filters. The older oils weren’t as much of an issue with the engine but would plug up a DPF filter. The modern oils, even though they are synthetic really need to be changed at 3000K mile intervals because of the sludge they produce.
@@slowdaze more about the soot content in the diesel and how often and how hot you can get the CAT and DPF to clear them, its just the wrong solution for the problem, from EGR to DPF and CAT, you're trying to solve the emissions of incomplete combustion, lean produces NOx, rich produces fuel particulates, so its all about having the right tune and keeping EGTs in check, also they need to control the flow of air instead of react to it, its just bad engineering from the start
I actually have a 17 titan with the Cummins in it and I've made it to 80k miles and no.problems at all so far
I'd knock on the nearest piece of wood if I were you, lol.
This has 97k so wait for it

Well with the titan"ic" sinking he used it as an opportunity to make some youtube dollars off it
If your able to delete/ make a plate to cover EGR will stop it from getting gummed up as much.
Jared is the best part of this channel and Tavarish's channel... Such a genuinely nice guy and super entertaining.... Sorry Tavarish, but Jared is my favourite.
And this is one of the reasons diesel guys delete all of the emissions stuff. We need clean , reliable and not overcomplicated
Now I'm older I only buy mass produced vehicles with excellent parts availability and everyone knows how to work on them. Like my F150 and my Camry. This is exactly why, All the best to the both of you!
I do the same except with stick trans Accords and 1/2 and 1 ton Ford trucks.
That's why I love my 85 S10. It's so damn old, but parts are everywhere for it. Even GM still makes OEMs for it.
The "Titan"ic animations had me laughing way too hard. Don't change guys.
In defense of the Titan, its just the Cummins. I have a 5.6 with very high miles and the 5.6 is very dependable. The diesel is the problem, which is why they stopped production
I had the 2016 version of this truck, and had the linear actuator that operates the turbos fail as well. Went to my local dealership in Portsmouth VA, and there were none in stock. Called down in Florida and had one overnighted to me. Swapped it (took it to the dealership to program the limits) and it was good, for about 700 miles. Started hearing some weird noises from the turbos and didn't want to chance it. Found out back then (June or July of 2018) that they were on national backorder, and CFT hadn't released their single turbo setup at the time. Next day I traded it in on a Tundra. I miss the comfort of the truck, but glad I got rid of it.
It's so awesome having you both on the show. You guys rock. I never go on UA-cam to learn something I always seem to learn something from Professor Jared.

One reason why I love my 2003 Cummins 3500. Yeah, the dash looks like a jumbled jig-saw puzzle but the engine pulls like a freight train.
try using archoil from powerstroke specialty, it tends to help a lot with coking in diesels with dpf and scr systems. I use for all of my fleet and it has been great. Also, I would see if you can manually do a static regen, in order to burn some of soot and carbon out of the DPF to reduce the backpressure in the system.
Jared, you should seriously consider getting a tundra, Toyota is the way!

I really feel for Jared on this one. I took a 5 week, 15000 mile road trip through the 48 contiguous states and I started the trip with a 2005 Ford Escape. I broke down in the middle of rural Texas and lost compression in cylinder #2. I could have waited for the shop to figure out why it lost compression and get it fixed, but it would have taken a week and I would have had to bail on a trip that I spent a year planning. Made the hard decision to leave the car at the shop and buy a new car, a super clean 2001 Chevy Suburban with lower miles and it has been the best vehicle I've owned.
You should get a custom emblem made that says "Titanic" and swap out the "Titan" emblem with it. Film Jared when you unveil it to him. It would make my day.

Just avoid buying any newer truck if you plan on keeping it a while. Older GM trucks are solid and pretty much any Ford's with the 6.2 are a good example of a common and reliable truck. Avoid dodges and Nissan's. Toyota makes a great truck but leaves anyone who needs a 3/4 or 1 ton in the dirt unfortunately

I have used Lucas Diesel DEEP CLEAN additive in my fuel. I'm an owner/operator contractor with a Detroit Diesel DD16 600HP truck. I do a LOT of idle pto time while in service. This is detrimental with soot buildup as engine doesn't build up enough heat. So far I have 15,000 hours of operation and haven't had to do any maintenance on DEF systems other than changing DEF pump tank filter.
Lucas isn't cheap to be sure. But it's Hella lot cheaper than shop visits and downtime.
Just my 2 cents.
I very much appreciate you both for this video. Today I had put a deposit down on a 2016 XD PRO4X with 90k miles for $32k was about to pick it up tomorrow. I sold my LLY duramax and wanted something newer. I replaced the dreaded CP3 injection pump so seeing you do this job didn't scare me. However after hearing the lack of availability of parts along with it breaking down again after you worked on it made me change my opinion. Thank You very much for sharing your honest feed back. I truly think I dodged a bullet 😅
You did.
This has to be when Freddie popped up in the back of Hoovies Woody? Think it was last week?
Yeah, he had the exact sludge on his hands
They build these trucks about 45 minutes from my house. I’ll go by and check the dumpsters to see if there are any parts y’all can use. Great vid! Crazy problems though...
For those that don't know, a Turbo on a Diesel motor is not a Performance Part. Performance Parts (going all the way back to Super Chargers & Fuel Injection) came from Diesel motors (and aviation) just to make them work and do what they have to do. If you DON'T have a "power-adder" on a Diesel motor, you end up back in the 80's with a Diesel truck/car that can barely pull it's own weight and you can get out and walk away from it when you stomp on the "gas" peddle. Diesel's on their own..... are the most simple design you can possibly do. When you complicate them, that's when things go horribly wrong. I mean..... it was originally designed to use Bio-Fuel (peanut oil) long before that was even thought of by the mainstream & the basic design really never changed.
Side-Note: When you go to buy a Super Charger (aka blower) you will see they are sized as 6/71, 4/71 etc etc etc. That's a hold-over from when they where used on Diesel Motors. The 4 in the 4/71 means it was designed for a 4cyl Diesel motor. And that goes back to the 40's when they where using these on Big Trucks, Bull Dozers, Tractors, etc etc etc.
I love my 12 valve Cummins in my 1996 Dodge with the full Banks kit on it. NO electronics, no excess carbon, NO DEF. It should be good for another 300,000 miles or more.
Well back order 200 plus sounds like that truck breaks all the time
I believe Scotty Kilmer said don't buy one for this very reason of what happened to the guys here.
Redesign to future proof any diesel.
Block off the factory EGR port on the exhaust manifold and EGR water cooling if it has it then run a bit of exhaust pipe and tap into the exhaust behind the DPF But before the Cat / add blue thingy and connect the pipe into where the EGR valve is so that it now provides filtered air cooled exhaust gasses and not hot dirty gas. This system is used on some Caterpillar Diesel engines.
It works well providing the turbo doesn’t provide more boost pressure at the times the EGR is open than is present in the exhaust. The EGR should not be open at those times however.
Dude no, because of stuff like this the gov is trying to force through the Rpm Act. Just obey factory exhaust treatment and engineer around it. We've been running around with dpfs opfs and catalytic converts for ages in Germany, whilst in the states everbody whines about this. Engineering around is more than manageable and on a global climate scale relevant.
@@Joe-nc2ox Dude What I said is not a delete it's a fix for the crap house design that's already been proven
@@Joe-nc2ox are you really lecturing the US about exhaust treatment?? ever heard of Dieselgate?! lol you guys cheated the world already
Lets see Titan repair delete videos...will be huge popular...solve the problem for the 200 people on the wait list.
Delete the DEF!
P.S. I have always been told by old mechanics that a turbo is just an expensive part that you will HAVE to replace
Nissan suck. When they hit the 2000's they went down hill.
Yup. The 4th gen Sentra's were amazing cars. Minus the butterfly valve problem.
Yep I cant say it enough.
Exception being the Frontier, Titan (not diesel obviously) and the Armada.
*looks at Nissan “hamburger” logo*
“Hey look, they circled the problem for you!”
Guys, liquid gasoline is not dangerous, however the fumes are extremely dangerous, so if you can't control the fumes you are asking for trouble with a capital T. It is a flash fire of extremely high rate of spread as in instances across the entire area containing the fumes.
I wouldn’t say don’t buy a Titan period, but avoid the diesel ones. I’ve heard nothing but bad things about them. Every other Titan I’ve done at work has been bulletproof, one even with Toyota level of high mileage.
So buying parts for that is like Beetlejuice sitting in the waiting room at the end of the movie.
Owning a Nissan and having a channel called "wrench every day", a coincidence, I think not.
Been buying Nissan all my life and you apparently dont know what your talking about. This isnt a Nissan problem anyway, its Cummins.
@@jimbob4485 You must be fun at parties
@@jimbob4485 I know two people specifically who would disagree with you. One owned a rogue. 105k blew the transmission. The other one owns a Armada. Blew a little rubber line on the transmission cooler, drained all of his fluid and blew his transmission up. Nissan vehicles aren’t good vehicles.
@@FoolOfATuque so you knew two people that owned Nissan’s that have had problems. Drive by any Ford Chevy Toyota dealership right now, pretty sure there is one of their vehs on the rack with problems. I know a guy with f250 bought after my Titan that’s been in shop 4 times, my Titan has not. You think it’s only Nissan? Ok
@@jimbob4485 yeah? I also knew another guy who shredded his rear differential in his Titan, but you can believe what you want to believe. I won’t be buying a Nissan anytime soon. Will stick with companies that make good trucks.
I feel your pain guys. I think COVID-land has exacerbated the issue of parts availability with this truck tremendously. By law a vehicle has to be supported for 10 years after discontinuance. I think a lot of the issues are with Nissan itself as they claim to be backordered but you can go on the internet and order yourself the part in a couple days. Cummins has been building V8 Diesels for years but I think this one is overly complicated and it shows. Everyone says it's an amazing truck when it's working. No one denies what Nissan tried to do (but for a lot of people who have experienced these issues) but failed.
I do find it interesting though that there are thousands of Titan XD Cummins on the road with over 100K or 150K miles that don't seem to have issues with gumming up. If the issue of parts failing is due to soot, carbon and coking then all trucks should experience it. So what is the different between the ones that do and the ones that don't? I think these trucks are candidates for every fuel and oil additive in existence.
Dudes. I hate that happened. Had to get a whole new intake after 80k on my EcoDiesel. Can’t believe the government has killed the Diesel engine.
Great vid fellas,I have to side with Freddy on this one, don't buy a Titan
or any nissan with a 5.6L
@@Uniquestanced the 5.6 is a great motor. their titan is a cummins, not a vk56.
just get the petrol version
great trucks
Personally I'd go with a Gas Ford F-250, or a Toyota Tundra.
Ghosn-era Nissan at its most abysmal. Stay. Away.
aye guys diesel mechanic here, any diesel after 07,08 ish will have these sorts of issues. only way to fix em is to delete em
You obviously don't know what the f**k you're babbling about.
@@jadedjay7861 uhhhh how so boss?
Good scary modern light duty diesel video recording, thanks much for posting. I cannot imagine the labor charges at a dealer for this work, a few thousand to clean up that mess? Is that overheating of unburned fuel? I've never seen anything like that.
I was afraid that the diesel would be a bad idea, I have an 06 that I love, there has been some bumps along the road. But, I would by another first generation Titan again if it ever becomes necessary, hope not. Thanks to you all for the great info.
My 1000hp track hawk gets about 5-8mpg and around 10 on highway when not doing hard pulls lmao!
Jared is a hefty boi and it kills me to watch him hang out of the engine bay with his feet up in the air 😂
These became available in Australia last year, all imports have the Cummins diesel. Deep into the six figure dollar range to buy so very rare to see one in the wild. Bit odd that the Cummins is playing up, they have a reputation (in the trucking world) for being very reliable and long lasting.
My tundra broke down once...
I was 30-something miles from home
It’s 14 years old
That was 3 or 4 years ago
I ain’t scared
It was the accessory drive belt tensioner pulley
The 1st gen titan is the best. Mine goes everywhere I need it to. They were right up there with the tundra. These new titans are nothing compared to the original. It's so sad.
Jared blowing on the camera lens was definitely my lol moment of the video
Your Nissan made 100,000 miles? Amazing! Many Nissan owners wish they could be so lucky.
I appreciate the upload , especially since Mr Jared himself replied to me ages ago, about how great the truck is and the myths of broken cranks, turbo problems, service and parts , that the internet has created. That's is exactly the reason I would rather get something more reputable with aftermarket parts available. Not saying others don't have issues because they do, but you can find parts cheaper and easier.
But from personal experience they come with a great warranty. I use mine monthly on my 2021!!
