- This video, taken from Buick's Know-how Series (KH-225), discusses operational characteristics of the 4T60E & 4T65E Transaxles for 1999 and above Buick models. Topics covered include: initial inspection, test drive, electrical concerns, transaxle similarities, pressure test, current concerns, Tech 2 tips and transaxle tips.
I have had several of these and I have changed the fluid every 30k miles and never had any trans fluid. Most failures are caused by friction of dirty fluid as they were out. My problems were the frame would rot away and would not pass safety inspections and have gotten well over 300k miles out of them with out any rebuilds
Who else came here with the expectation that they would mention the Long Shift problem?
Accumulator shift kit should be tried out to fix the max adapt long shift hard shift problem.
Typical procedure put sea foam transtune in and drive a bit to remove debris from the transmission, drop pan, remove filter, remove accumulator, install shift kit, put it back together replacing the filter, fill and road test.
The shift kit helped a lot of people with the hard up shifts.
Better to try if it don't work then replace solenoids (leaving the shift kit in) The shift kit is how the trans should have been made.
James Richards why not first install the pcs and shift solenoids first?
@@robertbennett212 Because you need to access the side plate, which is a PITA
Cleared trouble codes told the customer it's fixed charged them $100.00 and sent them home instead of tracking codes typical dealership
I figured this was going to be all about pressure control solenoids.
When he mentions TCC slip he says 100 -200 percent, he actually meant 100 -200 RPM.
Always replace the torque converter during a transmission rebuild. The 1811 code was left out,fix is to replace a couple solenoids
3:20 not right. The first clutch disengage and the second clutch come on. The 1-2 band stay on.
Only the second clutch and the third clutch is on for drive.
Wow they totally admit that problem and won't do a recall on the shit.
4:38 this dude is 100% a mechanic.....
the other dude.... who sounds MUCH more happy.... is 100% NOT a mechanic...
and what he says about "abusing the trans" is 100% correct.....
these old 3 and 4 speed trans'es still have a BIT of race car in them..... get it under load, thats where it likes to shift
Put some load into it and my 4k- buick pulls off the line on way newer cars
need help brothers , have a 2001 pontiac bonniville 3.8 , 4t65e trans put new tork converter in acts like it shifts into gear but doesnt moove ,,,,any thoughts
yeah get rid of it its a gm a piece of sh===t
Did you figure out that problem man? I have a 95 buick lesabre and I can put into any gear but the car won't move .. I did some research and think it might be a shift solenoid but I'm no mechanic
Have 97 LeSabre...well cared for....runs great. Lately feeling trans problems..not shifting correctly.. fish biting. Live in eastern PA.Where would you recommend I take it to be diagnosed and what would you consider a fair price to pay for this service? Thanks alot
fish bite = misfire usually...check spark plugs and wires!
1997 buick lesabre 3.8 my problem is when car is stopped and in drive you push gas pedal to go there a dump in trans. trans shifts fine through all gears. what could this be ? only does this after engine gets up to normal operating temperature.
what is a "dump in the trans"????
does it shudder? slip? try to stall?
if you mean "when i try to go.... their is a BUMP/clunk..... replace your motor and trans mounts
@@kainhall These are bad dog bone moter mounts in the front and your trans mounts are going bad. Mine did this had all mounts replaced no cluncking
That’s normal, when it’s at idle the clutches are under lower pressure and when you dump it they’ll slip and catch alittle
What about the 3T40 model..seems nobody like to discuss this model..
I can start the car drive it until it gets warm then it goes like in neutral turn it off and restart and it will move again for a while then do it again I'm afraid to take on the road so I drive around the yard. Can you help me. Thanks
@@philjohnsonjohnson3639 It has worn out clutches, they need to be replaced with new ones. Restarting the car clears the "limp home" mode and its been put in that mode by the computer that sees something it doesn't like and is serious enough for you to go get it fixed.
Question: Whats the difference between this video and watching Miss America contestants stumble over answering meaningless questions. Answer Miss America competition was more interesting and valuable. I thought these guys were gonna start to cry.
Will the shift kit fix the clunk from stop into 1st?
Check your mounts and bushings everywhere first auto trans are designed to be smooth slushboxes and really shouldn’t clunk internally unless something is really messed up where you’d find more noticeable symptoms
Also check cv joints for play
LOL Its not an intermittent short its an intermittent open.
I have an 99olds Alero code1810
I did
the 4T60E is basically a 4L60E but in reverse, it shares the same clutch plates as the 4l60E BUT the filter is NON REPLACEABLE!!!
Yikes.. why not?
@@VinylToVideo i rebuild transmissions for a living.
uh.... ive replaced the filter on my 99 century twice now....
we are talking about the filter in the pan, right?
@@kainhall Doesn't the century have a 3.1 or 3.8; therefore a 4T60E? The filter is 100% replaceable in the 4T60E.
the buick brand is a problem the biggest problem with the 4t65e its a piece of shit brand new 2005 randesvouz with less than 50 thousand miles on it and the damn thing desintegrated to a powder including the transfer case never again in my life will i buy anything general motor makes poor quality on all their brands
Most 4T65E's are well over 200k miles at this point. They are far from junk. I've personally owned 3 that have over 200k and one at 270k.
