Tawny owl incubation
Owls need three times as much energy to keep their eggs warm as they incubate. The crisp weather outside means Luna's working even harder to her body temperature up.
Luna and Bomber
But thankfully her partner Bomber is an experienced owl and keeps up regular food deliveries. These eggs are due to hatch any day now. Keep watching the livescreens to see the chicks!

@@cathymcglasson6947owls and birds don't have the same eating and digestive systems as humans. That's why there's a bunch of little oval-shaped objects all over nests. Owls hurl back out what they can't digest into those objects called "pellets".

@@Tom-ym7bm Gylfie the barn owl tried to enter Luna's nest. One of the eggs ended up cracked in the scuffle.

A full video from a couple of weeks ago showed that two eggs have already hatched while the other two eggs failed.....

You know it’s kinda funny. We watch these amazing videos and the tender moments with each other and their chicks. And then you watch them swallow a rat whole and you’re like..🤢🤢🤣🤣.

I’ve never seen an adult owl eat before. Like you, I assumed they would tear the prey item into pieces as they do for the chicks. Boy, was I wrong! Big Gulp!

Owls produce a pellet which contains undigested matter such as bones and fur.
