Captive bred barnies screeching actually sounds rather endearing after a while they make something of a psshht psshht type screech it's actually adorable after you get accustomed to it
I have to confess to being a total barn owl nut. We were lucky enough to be able to buy a smallholding about 25 years ago and putting up barn owl boxes and keeping significant areas uncut to promote a healthy vole population were some of the first things we did. We are rewarded by the sight of a barn owl quartering the fields on many evenings. It seems to have grown used to us watching it and often flies past at head height only a few yards away.
@@史湘云-j1n Last night I saw two barn owls fly over our front field and go into the trees near the owl box (couldn't tell if they went in the box but they didn't reappear so hopefully they did).
These owls are losing some of their habitat, thanks to people buying old barns & doing barn conversions. I got used to seeing these wonderful birds of an evening, as they flew like silent ghosts out of the thick forest behind my family home. Absolutely beautiful birds !
I have never seen a Barn Owl. I have to be content with what I'm pretty sure are Tawneys. I live almost at the top of the first ridge across London north of Finsbury Park - about a km. There's a line of enormous plane trees across the top of the ridge. Until about three years ago there was a pair of Tawny's lived along there. Never saw them but their call was unmistakable in late evenings. Lovely!
Thats so funny. I'm a resident of North London used to be closer to that area near crouch end and thought I heard owls but thought I must be imagining it. Thanks for confirming
1965-1976 I lived at Hillrise Mansions, near the top of Hornsey Rise. Behind us was a bowling green, some waste land and a disused railway line/adventure playground. My balcony leading to front door was on the first floor. Several times I saw a barn owl just a few metres from my head. Very spooky when nobody is around. Their screeching was even more blood curdling. Added to that I frequently heard barn owls. I was a teenager-early twenties then, so out & about late a night. I now live North Grays Essex. My house backs on to a row of ancient oaks & agricultural land. Not heard a sound from any owls. I see jays this time of year.
I am happy to report they're very very soft to pet. Credit to Milo the Barn owl who was on display at the British wildlife center and sat on a perch near the entrance and allowed visitors to gently pet his wings
Barn owls are making a great comeback in my area of North Norfolk, I usually see one or two along the back lanes at night. Last week, I was lucky enough to encounter one of the rarer 'dark phase' versions of a Barn owl sitting on a roadside post as I drove out of the village of Langham on the Morston road. These beautiful rich toffee coloured versions are a sub-species that occasionally drop in from continental Europe. All the best mate and keep up the brilliant work.
I’m a bit uneasy with owls. They do look quite haunting. But they are interesting too. Kinda like being fascinated by something that scares you. Barn owls do that shriek noise that is startling. But owl parents are dedicated couples and they are very family bonded.
Once again, I am indebted to your Love for our Sacred Wildlife, Liam (and Fred!). Thank you. All Owls are amongst the Darling Creatures with whom I would surely love to have a respectful, close relationship. To yours and you, from mine and me. Stay free. Rab 🦉 💓
That was awesome! I love owls, and I often hear the Barn Owl screech in my neighborhood at night (in California). I did not know the American Barn owl is now considered a distinct species. Thank you for this fun and educational film. 💛
Look forward to your posts. Thank you. I've been fortunate to have had them nesting in our barn. Usually saw ghost like beings at night under headlights. I also used to stay away in West Caster near Great Yarmouth for wok where they are a common sight at twilight.
I have been lucky enough to see one, perhaps two different ones, over the past two days in Cliviger near Burnley. Incredible sight to see during the day.
When we went to the Hawk conservancy trust near Andover they on an indoor demonstration as bird flu restrictions had just been introduced that day, They demonstrated various birds merlin, peregrine, tawny owl and the barn owl. The one thing that stood out with barn owl over all the other birds was how silent it was and how little it disturbed the air. The handler actually got the owl to fly about 6 inchh=es above my head and I didn't hear it or feel it. Incredible birds. Another great informative video.
Hi Liam brilliant video love owls my wife has photos and ornaments all over the house of owls she will love this video love to see more videos on owls keep up the amazing work and videos Bernard
They are such beautiful birds i see them frequently whilst driving my truck early hours in the morning i love to see them its exhilarating to watch them fly off from a post or tree good video 👍
Thanks for the great video. I just saw that the box I put in our old mill a couple of weeks ago has a couple of barn owls that have just taken up residency. Super excited!
Another great video, and I just want to say, I love your choice of music for this one! The somber, haunting piano really matches the ghostly look of these birds. Looking forward to more!
During hurricane Milton a hollowed out Royal Palm that had been dead for several years was blown over. I hadn't removed it because I saw many birds use it. The next morning the hurricane was gone and I went out to examine the trunk. It was cracked length wise so I lifted one of the long pieces and found 5 Barn owl chicks. One was in rough condition one was strong and wanted a fight the others were seemingly healthy. They should be at the Blue Pearl animal shelter in Fort Myers Florida. Very amazing.
Spent many an hour over the years walking in the Norfolk countryside and never seen one. Driving down the Acle straight a few months ago there was one sitting on a fence post, so I've now seen one....for about 2 seconds.
We have many here in the middle of PA. Pennsylvania in the United States. Endless barns and farms and silos. Heard many, only seen a few. Beautiful birds. Great video. I am going to watch the Buzzards video tomorrow. Thank you as always for the wonderful content you put in them.
I saw one up close at Martin Mere, about 100 metres away, and I was spellbound. I've only ever seen 2 in the wild, and heard one over my bedroom once in the summer of 21. But despite that, or maybe BECAUSE of that, they are my all time favourite bird. Such ethereal beauty in a night hunter.
Barn owls are my favourite birds 🤍 We've seen a couple in the wild (just for a moment, from a very great distance) and have been allowed to very carefully hold one at a bird of prey sanctuary. I love them so much. Loved your hoot at the end :D
This was very interesting to me so thank you for the video, I will let you off the awful puns 😊 - I lost my dad a few years ago and have been searching for the perfect tattoo for me as one of the last things we did together was a bird of prey morning at a local bird sanctuary. They are extremely beautiful and were mine and dad’s favourite bird. I was recently in France on a fishing trip, and just at sunset a barn owl flew side on over myself and a friends head … it looked so majestic especially when the sun caught that beautiful colours they have in complete silence. Thanks again.
You’re going to have to work on the puns, Liam, they were baaaaaaaaad! 😂 I’ve never been lucky enough to see a Barn Owl, but we get plenty of Tawny’s around here.
WoW!!! They are BEAUTIFUL!!! This was very interesting. And to think, I thought we had barn owls in the USA. What is the US owl called? Thanks so much for sharing! I find your channel very interesting. My favorites are when we get to go on an adventure with you, but these are nice too. You did a great job. Thanks! 😃
I've seen 3 in the wild this year. Two literally just wooped across the top of a road at night and my headlights caught them. The next I saw in the far distance circling a field. I would love to get a picture of one in the wild
I saw what I thought was the eagle owl in the woods near the Gurney Rd Heartsease Ln junction at the side of the pitch n putt.... Couldn't believe the size of it... The owl activity around Mousehold can be amazing some nights
I tried "doing a Liam" once. Spent 1hr 10 minutes videoing with my 300mm lens pointing at a hole in an old goat barn where I'd been seeing a barn owl emerge every night. My battery eventually ran out, and in the time it took me to reach out to the battery compartment, the barn owl appeared at the hole, looked around, and flew off. I'll just leave it you to do the hard work.

guaranteed to scare the life out of you if you're out camping and they start screeching. absolutely beautiful though.
Yep, demonic sounds
Sounds like someone getting murdered! Ran out of my home on two different occasions.....such screaming.
Had one announce itself about 15 feet from the campfire. I nearly fell out of my chair.
Heard a load last night, absolutely bricked myself! It's a ghastly screech mind.
Captive bred barnies screeching actually sounds rather endearing after a while they make something of a psshht psshht type screech it's actually adorable after you get accustomed to it
I think barn owls have the prettiest faces.
Not under those feathers they don't 😂
Not when they're chicks they're not, that said, same could be said for human babies when they're born! 🤔🤣🤣

An excellent video which primarily featured the barn owl and not the presenter, unlike many other YT videos on the same subject.
Thank you!

You and your research should be on national TV. Its a very informative and personal presentation that is missing. Keep up the good work. ❤

Owlets are even softer than the adults it genuinely almost feels like you're petting thin air
Love seeing these beautiful creatures 😊

Yes, finally Barn Owls!! I like this birds so much that I got for myself a book called "Barn Owls evolution and ecology", and it is amazing
We have this barn owl baby
Thanks so much for this video i absolutly love all Owls but barn owls are my favorite Owl🦉🦉

These are my 'grounding' videos. Fabulous viewing again Liam!
Cheers Stephen!
We had an old hollow tree. Walked by it one day and saw like three lil owl heads poking out of a hollow. These birds are freaking amazing.
How nice, Did you see them lots of times after that?

As in all your vlogs, good background info on barn owls. Didn't realise they caught such a wide variety of prey!
These owls are a true sight to behold I have only seen one in the wild and that was a memorable moment
Thanks for a great video
That was very good. Always a thrill to see a barn owl.

Absolutely stunning, beautiful bird. Great video as usual.
I remember hearing that screech from my bedroom window one night coming from the tree in the garden. It scared the crap out of me for a second!

Voles. A type of small rodent.
