Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue - Is the Hype Real? | Watchfinder & Co.

- It’s one thing to create a watch that gathers huge attention across the globe, that generates fervent chatter right from the off, that comes from a line that arguably changed the outlook of not just a brand but a corner of the industry itself-yet that’s nothing compared to this, the challenge of covering said watch, when there is but one difference: it’s blue.

Hey, thanks for the shoutout! 🙂
Awesome! Two of my favourite channels acknowledging eachother.
haha
Thanks for making me wish I had millions for a superyacht!
@@watchfinder It's always a pleasure! 😄
The watch it too small
Rolex is the brother that went off to become a partner at a law firm. Tudor is the younger brother that dropped out and became a rockstar.
MedLife Crisis is great! Nice shout out.
Tudor is the twin brother who lacks the marketing budget, but otherwise looks the same and is the same, for the most part.
I got this watch about a month ago on the nato! And honesty is my favourite watch in my collection! It’s get more time in the wrist than any of my Rolex’s! This Tudor in my opinion is going to be a future classic! It’s a beautiful no fuss time piece, fun and high quality! If you get the chance to buy it, then do not hesitate!
Hi Lewis. What has happened with the BB58 Blue after 1y? I am thinking about buying one! Current collection: Explorer I 39mm, submariner 41, and Batman GMT.
I think they managed to get the balance of colour slightly better than some of the other Black Bay range. That’s the only thing to my eye.
So to summarise...
Buy it because it’s blue
Don’t buy it because it’s blue
It’s a hype because it’s blue
It’s not a hype because it’s blue
Thanks
My take was “buy it because it is Rolex quality fun!” 😉
exactly
Some of the best analogies I’ve ever heard and sums up the Tudor so well. Shoving people into the pool! Genius 😂
All I know is it looks frickin' cool. The blonde hair made Norma into Marilyn. Sometimes there's just one detail that can elevate an attractive, but otherwise ordinary individual or object into someone or something that captures the public's imagination. It's like lightning in a bottle. You can't really describe it fully with words.
long power reserve, accurate in house movement (-2 +4 sec /day if I remember correctly), elegant dial/index design, dome crystal, antique bracelet, great craftmanship
Gosh this is a very special watch
I also own couple rolex and pp
But BB58 blue is just always the one on my wrist
it's just simply that good
a stealth I'd say for the money
But never buy over the MSRP
Watch of the year for me.
It would look lovely in a grey also.
The Tudor BB 58 is a watch that screams "wear me" because it's so comfortable on the wrist. It also seems to fly under the radar while at the same time being such a nice looking watch. This seems in contrast to Rolex sports watches that scream (to the world) "look at me". So Tudor might be the little brother of Rolex, but I think it's marketing image is far better than Rolex because it carries none of the Rolex (negative) baggage. And outside the watch enthusiast community, most people don't even know Tudor has any relationship with Rolex, which is probably a good thing. The BB 58 is just fun to wear. I bought the blue BB 58 and love it.
The only downside to a Black Bay 58 is that no-one ever has any in stock. All I find is a willingness "to take an expression of interest". A more general problem in Australia is the shameless price gouging that affects all retail. It is not for no reason that international retailers refer to Oz as "Treasure Island".
check reddit watchexchange 1-2 BB58's go one sale there used...daily almost!
I was hoping he’d say he watches Archie Luxury...
Only for the comments, that's where I get the lols.
Perhaps talking hands guy *is* Archie Luxury, or at least the method actor who plays the method actor who plays him…
That would've made my year, oh jeez
I watched Archie Luxury once recently by accident and got so depressed I genuinely felt like topping myself
@@altbinhax we work very hard to give you those lols. Just kidding, Arch makes it easy af.
Perfect analogy, the BB58 Blue is fun and that's why I bought it. I've worn mine during tasks I wouldn't otherwise consider wearing a watch for, just for the 'fun' of it. I'm even wearing it right now.
With that said, the watch wouldn't be "fun" if you didn't already own a Rolex already. A Tudor can never substitute that, but it can add so much more value as a second (third, fourth, fifth etc.) watch.
You have tasks that you don't wear a watch for? What's that like? Maybe I should get one of these ...
@@thelonious-dx9vi Sorry, I meant 'tasks' which I otherwise wouldn't wear my other watches for. Tasks like painting, using powertools while working/sawing/painting. My Datejust or Two-Tone Daytona would not fit in there.
@@nomansland120 sure, I was just kidding you. watch geek humor, such as it is 😉
@@thelonious-dx9vi Upon reading your initial comment a second time, I actually see that I misunderstood what you meant :) My bad
Not trying to defend Rolex here, but I think the talking hands might have overstretched the "stuffy guy"-Rolex vs. "cool guy"-Tudor dichotomy a bit - all for the sake of tiptoeing around the fact that this is just a blue Tudor (albeit a good-looking one).
agreed, although to be fair towards the end of the video he pretty much acknowledges the fact that there's really nothing special about the watch besides the new color. 8:22
Especially because nothing is as cool as jumping on the latest hype train and buy something different than everyone else. Oh wait ...
It's blue, and an amazing blue 🤩. It is really an understated classy watch that doesn't attract the wrong attention of criminals as much as other luxury brand watches that really stand out and catch the wrong eyes. I own it for the last 2 weeks and didn't come back of my wrist since.
I think the bezel on the BB range is the
part that changes them from beautiful to iconic
Your storytelling is just world-class!
Although I really love this watch, I wish there was a BB58 with a blue bezel and black dial as that appeals to me way more than this type of blue does. I was carefully saving up for, the blue bezel Black Bay 41, my grail, until my girlfriend got diagnosed with an awful sickness. But I solemnly swear that I will own that watch someday!
I hope you managed to get it and that your girlfriend is doing okay, sadly i can say that i know how you feel.. stay strong.
Swiss should have a national Rolex day, to honor and pay homage to a great company that has successfully made stainless steel a precious metal.
LoL
It’s not regular stainless steel, it’s brushed, polished and the tolerances are spaceship proof
It's really a cool watch. The blue color is evocative of the blue Submariner watches of the '60s and 70s which were the quintessential tool watches and issued to Navy divers in France. (The US NDU/UDT/SEALs had the option of buying them on selected procurement. I own the black one my uncle wore in Vietnam.) I wish the indices were square but maybe next run.
I bought the black version on your recommendation when it first came out and it's great. It's what Rolex used to be. It's solid, easily legible, great brand, good power reserve and accurate to within a few seconds a week. No one has ever asked me if it's real.
I very recently bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've cherished for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and aluminium bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it when it's barely 35% of a Sub's retail price - go to an AD and try one on. An in-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve.... you won't be disappointed.
“Side note: Burn”. Brilliant. I don’t know how many caught this Omega dis, but just freaking great!
I truly love your videos, man! You're one of the best channels on UA-cam. Could you please do a video or two on Sinn Spezialuhren? I'm a huge fan of them and it would be awesome, if you could cover them in your videos. Thanks.
Blue, simply one of the coolest colours on a watch, especially on a bronze case.
I think I may actually go buy my first Tudor, thanks to your (another) beautiful video!
I would’ve been more interested in either a Black Bay GMT with the 58’s case size or a Pelagos with the 58’s case size.
What color is this watch again?
Picked mine up yesterday. For my smallish wrist the fit is superior to the Submariner. I especially appreciate that it's only 11.7mm thick and the back is nearly flat unlike the Sub.
I have a navy BB58 coming in from your New York store and I’m super excited! Can’t wait to get it on the wrist. I’ve tried my friends and it’s everything it’s touted to be by my favorite watch channels, this one included.
+10 for the LOTR Ent reference.
I would pick this Palagos over the more expensive Submariner anyway! Thanks for this beautiful video
This isn't a pelagos, Pelagos is much chunkier and has 500m of water resistance + helium escape valve.
I still haven't changed my mind about this one. I still think that the colour-change took away some of the best characteristics of the original 58. Namely the gorgeous combination of black and rose gold and the warmth it exudes. Plus, and I know it's a tiny detail, the red triangle on the black model's bezel looks so much nicer and adds to the retro charm.
I have the original. Love it for the reasons you said but after seeing the blue in real life i also loved that one. Looks total different but absolutely beautiful. Really stunning. You have to see it on your wrist and have the love blue also haha.
@@yahyas Yeah... I keep forgetting to add that "haven't seen it in real life myself"-disclaimer. It really makes a big difference. Sadly, my local Tudor AD had neither the black nor the blue version in the window last time I went there.
@@1SaG I think you should keep you eyes out the holidays are here I suspect Tudor at least will pump some Blueberrys out there going to want to help their ADs make some money in this crappy year.
But that's the thing, there's that option of the original with the contrast between the gold of the hands and indicators and the black of the dial and bezel, and then there's this other option which is kind of more casual and prettier for some. It's nice that we have both options in my opinion. Two options is good, less is boring, more are too many.
I much prefer the blue over the hokey faux patina look.
Just bought the OG one today on a bracelet. You can literally buy any of them anywhere at retail here in the UK with no wait time. It just seems everywhere else in the world that you have to wait for them. Great watch, even on an 8 inch wrist.
What a great review, been thinking about buying this watch for quite a while now this just sealed it.
I'm blue dabadeedabadi dabadeedabadi dabadeedabadi
And just like that, Watchfinder just made the Navy Black Bay 58 way more expensive in the resale market.
Suits them when they sell them. Remember watch finder SELLS watches. This isn’t a horologist in a bedroom giving honest opinions. Always a hidden agenda.
NAH. You can find black bay 58 blue ready stock in London these days - after all Tudor and Rolex are just pure marketing trick, nothing special about them
Not like you would have found it anyway blud, lol.
Purchased this watch a month ago and absolutely love it. Great (small) size, and I can wear it when I’d never wear my Journes, like working in the engine room or otherwise working on the boat. Couldn’t be happier with it and I did buy it cause.......its fun! But no bananas.....
I tried finding your shop in Paris, could not. Ended up at an AD. bought a black bay 58 blue. I'm happy, but I wonder what I wild have got if I had visited your shop or is there no shop?
This is the hottest watch at the moment. Mine arrives next week. Still love Rolex but more 39mm Tudor models would absolutely light this brand up. Fifty-Eight GMT surely has to be next.
Had this exact watch about 6 weeks now, love the blue suede type strap. In fact am really liking this watch, great weekend casual watch. Love wearing it.
Is there any watch better than this in this price point?
There is too much hype for the black bay mainly because of the lack of submariners for a decent price
Last July when this came out to all the silly commotion I stopped by my favorite AD to see what it looked like. It was in fact Blue and looked just like the black one that I didnt think much of before this one. But there in the case off to the side was another Blue watch and a Tudor too. A Snorkle Blue Tudor Pelagos. Bottom line I left with that Blue watch. So much for the hype.
How’s the Pelagos so far?
@@v3sinned love it but it is a chunky monkey and definitely a tool watch. Don't consider it a daily wear. Mine is part of a modest rotation. But bottom line I love it. One warning dont wear it to bed if you don't like to sleep with a night 💡. It's lume is ferocious.😊. Oh and it's running +3.2 a day.
@@robertsullivan4773 thanks for the reply! Hopefully i would get a chunky monkey of my own soon 😄 keep safe and Hopefully you may have many more adventures with it

LMAO This is me 100% 😂 I'm waiting for my Tudor Blue BB58 to come in
🔥🔥🔥🔥
The people who produce these videos are great, what a good description of Tudor, spot on..... shame the experience in their shop's is terrible.
High Five for name checking Harry's Garage! Great videos from both of you!
My favourite watch. During the week, I tend to alternate between this and the OG BB58 and look forward to wearing the blue more... Not convinced I’d call it fun though - I would say the new snoopy fits the description of “fun” better. Enjoyed the video though.
Probably one of the funniest and more entertaining commentaries from this guy, even if I don't care about a tudor diver that got the blue treatment. I'm a simple man, I like witty jokes and nice fliegers. This channel provides more than enough wit to compensate for the lack of fliegers.
The BEST review of this watch I’ve seen to date.
have you done any video of any HYT watches yet ? if not i think a mechanical fluid movement watch would be a great vid material
Okay - I have this watch and why did I buy it ? First of all for the size which is very close to one of my other favorite daily watches - the Explorer II 40 mm. Then there is the color - I personally wear blue jeans and shirts a lot and blue is my favorite color ( I have four watches with blue dials ) so it just works well with my style. The next reason is the value of money. The Tudor BB58 is just a very good watch for the money. Next thing which also made my buy it - the different straps options. I got mine with the steel bracelet and also ordered the blue fabric strap which I have used the last four weeks non stop. Even though I haven’t sold a watch yet - it’s just nice to know that the secondhand market is there if one wants to sell the watch. Is Tudor a watch for those that can not afford a Rolex - maybe in so cases but it can also be a good supplement to your Rolex watches.
Gosh, the detail finish on this is SO much better than that Iconaut reviewed recently!! 😳
I would be interested in your review of Tutima watches ,the company’s history and it’s new releases.
Thank you for your consideration and wonderfully informative videos

I got a black bay 58 is it a good investment ?
I'm not sure if I agree with the host on the final comments made on this watch. It's not just 'a new color' but rather a harking back to the blue submariners that were made previously -- and Tudor has been pretty explicit about that. It takes from the same DNA as Rolex -- make small changes conservatively whilst not losing focus. It may seem boring or unappealing to the mass audiences but I think it's really quite intelligent because the host has already said the feeling and price points of distinguishing Rolex vs. Tudor is now more apparent than it's ever been. If I was Tudor I'd say mission accomplished -- this is the sweet spot they want to be in.
I think it just feels like the natural expansion of the BB58 series. Many liked the decrease in size from the BB to the BB58. Now you just added a color more fitting to a Diver than the black-red-rosegold. Nonetheless, I'd prefer the latter and also the larger 41mm case size of the "normal" Black Bay.
Why do you charge £3250 for a 2018 used LHD pelagos when you can purchase a new one in many high street stores for £3440 with new 5 year warranty? Just wondering how u set the prices as I would think the pre-owned watch would be well under £3000.
Original BB58 remains my Grail. The blue just doesnt do it for me. Great video, as always...
Another Harry's Garage watcher! Confirms you are a car guy. I wondered when I heard you mention "top fuel dragster" and "Porsche GT3" in some other videos. :) I'll have to check Aquaholic out. I like boats too!
I used to own the black bay red 2824. I sold it because of its aluminium bezel which scratch easily. I prefer my small second hand oris diver which is more hardy.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the taupe version.
I like the Black Bay 58 Blue, but I really like the Pelagos Blue. I’ve been wearing mine for several months now, and it keeps better time than my Rolexes, and my IWC Portuguese. Plus the watch is extremely comfortable being it’s titanium.
the uncle who bought a boat and sportscar instead of getting married and having kids? who have you been talking to?!
Yesterday I have tried this one (Netherlands) and it's beautifull. However It's blue strap was way to large for my 16,5cm whrist. Are there different strapsizes available?
Put another hole in the strap perhaps.
It's blue. I like it. Am I missing something ???
I truly would like to see your wonderful review on a Vacheron Overseas (the new one) with the blue dial. The dial is blue, I know, but it’s simply something else. I’d love to hear your comments and the amazing photography of a watch that is under appreciated in comparison with AP or PateK, but that has an exquisite finishing. Not to mention that I love it’s versatile with the three different straps/bracelet options. Please, indulge us.
The Blue Bay 58 has me wondering what response a Blue Steel Submariner would garner. Zoolander!
Same with the Rolex Kermit. It’s just a submariner but everybody went nuts because it’s green. Yet the Kermit is much more desired than a standard submariner amongst watch enthusiasts
You are correct, it is JUST blue. But to me, the gilt/faux vintage trend of this decade will not age well and I think collectors are valuing this piece over the black version.
Too bad gold will never go out of style and also wouldn’t call it faux patina because it is slightly off white
The loom lasts long at night. I love mine I have this exact watch. I wear it more than my Rolex OP39 blue. I miss my Omega, ironically Tudor and omega make the better tool watch IMO. I sell cars and my brands color is blue and looks fun as you said not too loud for my use.
@watchfinder Can you do a video on the titanium No Time To Die Seamaster?
An all-steel 58 would be even better.
Yes! I was thinking that recently. Would / will be amazing
Wait, so it's not stainless steel? Huh, what else can the metal be then?
@@gmshadowtraders the watch is mainly steel but the bezel on the blue Black Bay is aluminium.... what we mean is that if the bezel was also steel that would be very cool
I just hate that it’s a “ heritage “ why can’t these companies understand that making heritage watchers adds a level of cheap perception to it? It’s not an original. Tudor would have better off simply not calling the whole black bay line a heritage. They should have just came up with a different name even if the looks remain. You add the in-house movement that they obviously have already and this watch would not only be as hyped as it is, but it would definitely appreciate over time. That whole “ heritage”holds this watch back IMO on how people perceive it as a significant time piece. Longines does this a lot as well. I don’t get it
Not sure that what they name it makes much of a difference on how the watch gets perceived. It is a "cheap" watch made cheaply using cheaper materials and with a cheaper finish... And I'm not at all a fan of it's big brother either...
I think it differs. With Tudor it's an attempt to capitalise on its historical association with its parent company. With Longines, it's simply a nice line of watches.
Well that’s the sort of thing Rolex would never do...but it seems it’s good enough for Tudor. I agree with you personally, I think it cheapens it. They seem to be making the calculation that the average customer isn’t an enthusiast [yet]...and putting the word Heritage in magazine ads etc will subconsciously remind us of- or introduce new people to the Rolex/Tudor history. A lot of the people who are sufficiently turned off by the name to pass are probably buying Rolex instead and not some other brand... but I agree with you: I think names like that cheapen it. Now if I can go out on a limb a little bit- maybe cheapening it a little is actually the point. Or else Tudor might start to feel like a better value than Rolex if marketed as a luxury watch. They’re keeping each brand in its lane, and winning in both lanes. In other words: they’re having their cake and eating it too.
@@jimmyjay122 agree, I own a Rolex GMT Master II Black. It's not even my favorite watch. Nice watch very tasteful and useful but nothing that great to look at. It's just a Rolex and everyone drools over them and begs to get them.
@@robertsullivan4773 Same... I see them as functional, sometimes shiny, wrenches in a toolbox. Never saw what the big deal was. Owning one for me was just a, "meh... Why not"...
I think Tudor did it perfectly. Too many choices cripple our decision making.
This review was fun actually.
I bought the BB58...after after watching the video here and having owned one for close to a year now, I somehow found it rather boring (IMO) as with this new color.
I’ve even tried changing a few different straps in hopes to reignite my love for it but somehow felt that the BB range as a whole is still too close to its older brother.
Having said that, and interestingly enough (personally)... I now find the blue Pelagos more alluring than every...with its squared markers (closer to the vintage original), a different case, innovative clasp, and matte color...making it more complete as a unique offering from Tudor, which I most likely would trade in my BB58 for...soon.
Just sharing my own ownership experience.
I'd still stick with the OG BB58. Perhaps if they made it a punchier blue?
faux gilt looks like garbage imo
Bought BB58 blue one and a black one today because I couldn't make up my mind 🥳🤗......and bought BLack Bay Chrono reverse panda today too. That's what I think of these watches.

A step up with the writing here. Really good work.
The talking hands dude feels like he 'has to wear a suit' if he is wearing a Rolex? Seriously? I don't by any means feel like I _have_ to wear a suit if I'm wearing my Patek 5296G-001. As for Rolex (at the very least anything steel from the professional range) that is surely a casual watch first and foremost? Sure, they have become kind of quasi dress watches in the last couple of decades, and therefore _could_ be worn formally. But the idea you _have_ to wear a suit still seems plain wrong to me...
I think the implication was that they are just too expensive for a casual watch, no matter how they look, about 5x too expensive for hands guy and about 50x too expensive for me personally.
Kind of agree I consider my Rolex GMT Master II Black a casual watch. I have a Gold Omega I wear when getting more formal. The GMT in a formal situation may make people think I'm trying to hard to impress look at me I have a Rolex. IMO.
