I'm impressed! You know your stuff. I've rebuilt a few 188mm diffs but it's few and far between so I always come back to UA-cam to refresh on some specs. I subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to checking out more of your content!
Easy to understand! I am gonna order the tools and kits! Since I replace new cv(expensive gkn) and the Z3 lsd ( the diff seems really need to rebuild! Thank you sir!
Thanks for the video. I've done a bunch of Dana, GM, Ford diffs before so I'm pretty familiar with the rebuild and regear process but this one is strange to me so I have a few questions. Are there no shims for the pinion side? If not, how do you adjust pinion depth to get a proper gear pattern? Also the backlash seems very tight. Most diffs I've built are typically in the range of 0.006-0.010". What is the recommended range for a BMW 188mm diff? Thanks.
hi, I have a diesel e30 with an e46 M57D30 engine and I have a problem, the car only gives 74 miles when it was supposed to give at least 149 miles, I was told that the problem was the differential, what can I do to change this without having to apply the e46 differential? Can I build a differential with the E30 body but with the E46 interior like in this video?
I have a question, do the 2.93 lsds and open diffs ring and pinion gears the same? I tried my 3.25 lsd unit and swapped the ring gear with a 2.93 ring gear from an open 2.93 diff and install it on the 2.93 housing but not able to install as I recall the unit is a bit too much off to the left.
No, they are not the same! The break off is anything between 2.79 and 3.07 share a certain size carrier and they all share it. All different ratios from 3.15 to 4.10 share a different size carrier.
@@Garageaholic to clarify since 2.79-3.07 share carrier units. If I have a 2.93 lsd and want to swap to 2.79 ring and pinion do I need to find 2.79 ring and pinion from an LSD or I can also get it from an open 2.79? Thanks.
Nice always good work!!
i believe lsd should be maintained with 75w140 not 75w90, check it before clutches will be burned
Usually I fill mine with Wesson. Available at most maor food retailers.
Yeah 75w140
75w90 is gearbox fluid.
Obviously a bmw diff master. Love it. Thanks for the education, very impressive and very nice work and explanation. I bet you've done 3 dozen or more.

Thanks Aaron. i do a lot of engine swaps!
@@Garageaholic Sweet! I have a m50 swapped e30 and just and just did a e28 m50 swap. Sold that one a few days ago. Next is s52 in my e34 touring!
Great rebuild, Frank. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing and have a good one. Regards Nico.

Did you add a gasket to the diff cover? Looks like you only used permeated (or something similar).
Thanks
YES! Great video. Always loved your stuff.
Hi, backlash isn't too short ?

@Garageaholic I see. Thanks for the fast respond.

Nope - lsd/open are identical for gear swaps within its gear ratio ranges (high gears vs low gears)
Thank you
