  • After another wind storm blew through, we have trees down everywhere. Turning lemons to lemonade, we use this opportunity to test a new bar oil while cleaning up the yard. The results are interesting ....

@@thelarewsdo Thanks. I ordered some better than oil and will let you know how it works for me, too.

I like my bar with more oil on it so the bar wont burn the paint off. Seems to not bog out as much with more oil

I agree, I'm turned up to about 3/4 on the adjustment. I like the sweet spot between oiling and not creating an oily mess behind the clutch cover. It's odd how the tree species effects the degree of oil on the chain also. I've been cutting mainly hardwood ,but yesterday had to remove a pine tree from our church and the chain is glistening with oil, almost over oiling. Seems like the hardwoods soakup the oil while in the cut vs the sappy pines that don't as much. 🤔 I'm sure chain speed plays into that also ,but definitely curious.

I use regular old Castrol 2 stroke and 5w-30 or 10w-30 in my saws up here in interior Alaska when temps dip down to -40f or even 0 bar oil is useless you would freeze before you even filled your tank, bar and chain last just as long as bar oil and way less expensive and readily available,I suppose you could mix it with a little diesel, but why bother Castrol pours in -50!

Oh wow! You're definitely operating at the extremes. They say the heat is in the work, but you'd have to be hauling to keep warm at those temps. Alaska is beautiful! I had the pleasure of visiting Alaska 19yrs ago and would love to come back! Be safe out there.
Do you mix the 2 stroke oil with the 5w-30 or just use one or the other?

It doesn't really matter, if your cutting wood for a project where looks matter I would use 5w-30 so it doesn't stain the wood, for firewood don't really matter.

Shocker on the temp. If you cut for like an hr and compare then.

      Hey Randy,
Yeah that's the plan. I was just easing into it to make sure it was a contender at all. From this short test I feel comfortable packing it along for further testing without worry of burning up my bar. The next review will tell the tell.

Those are work pants, not underwear on the outside; here's a link so your mom can order you a pair 😉 Glad you liked the chainsaw bar oil comparison!
