A bird pooped on my truck last night so bad it seemed personal. My GF thought it was funny i cleaned it off so fast so now ill show her this video as proof of what can happen. Thanks for all the tips and videos Josh!
I sometimes have issues with birds leaving their calling cards but my main problem is trying to keep the neighborhood cats off my cars, always worried about them scratching my paint, great video Josh 👍😁
Different subject: I just purchased my MJJC Pro V2 cannon from you. Thanks! MJJC no longer includes any extra filters. How often do you swap out filters if you rinse your foam cannon out with water everytime?
Hi, Yeah i actually never have with the ones i use. But, I use only ph neutral soaps with no wax additives. And i use it all the time so nothing has a chance to build up. Honestly, i think if you rinse it out after use you will be fine. The v2 mjjc upgraded a few components over the original so Its made to last
Great video, Josh! I just had the same thing happen on the hood of my 2021 Mazda6. Sat out in the sun too long, and I didn't catch it in time. I tried Koch Chemie Micro Cut with the corresponding pad, and while it made it better, it didn't eliminate it. Problem is, the paint thickness in that spot is 3.1 😳 Just don't feel comfortable bumping it up to a compound. Oh well, like you said, you have be looking for it to really see it anyway. Sure wish manufacturers weren't making the paint so THIN these days...
Yea i know and its unfortunate. It seems be getting less and less. I see a lot of Honda's with clear coat failure. Do you know any of the science behind that?
Great vid thanks - had the exact same issue and went for the compound/polish combo on a black Tesla Model 3 and it worked perfectly. Did it by hand too which worked just fine!
These are pro solutions and good ones at that...... however it was a long weekend, a massive amount of Bird crap landed on my car and I did not want to let it sit for days or a week feeling it may do further damage. I had a white car. (Not sure what the outcome would be for a dark paint car?). The chunky part of the poop I got off. Not issue there. What was left was light green stains literally that looking like ink or something. I tried soap and water and a sponge. No change. I tried Turtle wax and some buffing. Did not help at all. I tried Baking soda and water. Did not do anything. I tried Baking soda and vinegar. Nothing. I tried Goo B Gone. No change... no effect. NOTE I chose a small bird poo stain for all these down near the side front fender in the most inconspicuous spot to test all these. In case any of them left some damage or abrasive marks in the paint. I recommend the same. If the situation allows for that. Finally what worked? A mixture paste of Oxy Clean Powder mixed plain hot water. Not so hot that it burns your fingers. I mixed it to a wet version of a paste. I tried applying and rubbing the stains using make Up Remover pads (those white round ones).... I tried a cloth.... it seemed the best way to do it was using my plain old fingers. I would apply a dollop and simply firm but a gentle firm.... rub it with my thumb or fingertips around and over each poo splatter. The more you kept rubbing the fainter and fainter the stain got. It does take some elbow grease and time. It took me around 45 to 55 minutes to do around 35 - 40 splatters ranging from the size of a dime to the size of a pea. But they all came out. Every now and then I would mist the whole area with water. You do not want the paste dry or chunky.... nor too thin.... a little wetter than toothpaste consistency. After I rinsed and rubbed everything with a soft towel and you could see some of the areas where I rubbed with the oxyclean but I am sure a going over with a good car wax with hint of rubbing compound would even out the small few areas I could see a bit of a difference in shine. Would I recommend this for anyone with a prestige car or Hot rod or show car? maybe not? But your everyday homeowner with a run of the mill regular car, SUV or whatever should find this to do the job. Again it is not the work of a pro like this author here but it worked enough for my liking on our white Honda Accord. Hope this helps. Note get bird poop off a car as fast as possible. Every day or hour your leave it lets the high acid content in Birds poop permeate the clear coat and even into the paint if left long enough. Cheers

Hey Josh. I have a black Model 3 with about a quarter sized bird dropping that etched in the clear coat. Can I achieve the same results as you by using Meguiars Ultimate Polish & Compound by hand?
Hey Josh great video. Question for you, was this car ceramic coated? If it wasn’t ceramic coated would the bird poop still create this much of a problem?
This care does not have one yet. Ive been using it to do a test between 3 of the turtle was spray on ceramic products. The side that got the bird poop had Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Graphene and as you can see it did not help. Now that my test is done, i am going to be doing a correction and then applying a true ceramic coating! This still can happen with a ceramic, but it would take the dropping sitting on the paint much longer for it to cause that kind of damage if it did it all
So assuming the car is ceramic coated, do you have to reapply to the whole car (meaning full decon and prep) or can you just apply to the spot or the whole hood ? Also I was given the advice to use a hair dryer to gently get out etching on small spots. Have you heard of this? Does it actually work ? My car is outside all day while I’m at work but garaged at night, I don’t have a machine polisher yet (new to detailing). Any help is appreciated 👍
Nice videos. Which brand/product name would you use to add extra protection from the get-go as a preventative method that will last atleast a few months of protection? Hybrid ceramic wax will prevent damage from bird poops?

I missed a small bird dropping on a couple of the satin trim pieces on my brand new 2024 Nissan Z. I don't believe the trim pieces, namely the driver side window molding and the rear "katana blade" are clear coated. The window molding is satin black (I think) and has a small scar. The "katana blade" trim is some sort of silver but the bird dropping left a very faint orange stain that I can't wipe off with simple detailing solution in-a-bottle, even with a soft tooth brush. How would you attack these two situations?

Would recommend checking out Autoglym's heat pads first before doing any polishing (can't remember the name of them). Pretty sure Forensic Detailing tested them out a little while back. I've used them twice now with great success.. saves shaving off clear coat.
Hey Josh hope all is well I get it youre keeping it simple and staying within the system of Yellow pad to yellow polish and blue with blue. Do you think the yellow pad with blue compound would of done anything decent or would it of been a waste of time and jumping blue and blue to save headache & time thank you!
No thats a great point. In this case, i think it needed the combo of the more aggressive pad and the more aggressive compound. But yes using the compound with the yellow pad would be a good in between step. Not quite as aggressive but more aggressive than the yellow pad with polish
Hey mate, love your work!👍🏻. I’ve got a similar problem but only noticed it after my car bonnet had been ceramic coated! What would you recommend? You can only see the etching in certain lights but it’s still doing my head in. Any advice would be appreciated!!👍🏻
Sounds like it was ceramic coated over the etching , thet probably did their best to polish it out before hand but there's only so much you can do . Your probably going to need to the panel repainted if you can't live with it .

Love the channel and all your wisdom on this business. I have a quick question, I own a Detailing business myself but have yet to find a product that gets the scratches from the inside plastic/ceramic trim on the car. I personally own a 2018 Audi A6 that has tons of scratches on the inside of the car. Do you have any experience restoring that?
How does bird poop etch the clear coat? Like don’t we have the technology to create paints and clear coats that can combat bird crap by now?? Yet we can land on the moon and send massive telescopes into space, no problem. Just amazing
Just a quick question, won’t that spot u worked with the polisher stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the hood? Wouldn’t u need to do a quick polishing pass over the whole panel to even it out, so it all looks the same? Or is that only a possibility and necessary on some cars where the existing finish is more oxidized and swirled.
Yea that can happen if the rest of the paint is in not very good condition. This car is going to be getting a full correction and ceramic coating now so i wasnt worried about it, but this cars paint wasnt very bad either and you have to search for the polished area
@@imjoshv thank u I was asking because when I did a quick one step test on my wife’s civic and only did half the trunk there was a huge difference and I wasn’t sure if would be like that all the time or if it was case by case depending on paint condition. Is just doing the whole panel a good way to kind of make it a little less obvious.
Can you do a video on tree sap? We park under a pine tree and on very hot days we have to move out our driveway so no sap gets on my wifes car, she messed up the paint in one spot trying to remove it
U can clay bar and ceramic coat it and grab a quick detailer for the ceramic coating, either from chemical guys or other name brands, can't stop the tree sap just make it easier to clean lol
Can you do a video on how to wet sand safely? I have so many of these bird etchings from previous owners of my car and I am just looking for the best was to remove them safely, I’ve tried 1000-3000 grit sanding then the other steps followed and still wasn’t that much better. I was also pretty conservative with sanding though
They have been out of stock. The rupes is definitely the most well know for this size polisher. I have about 5 other small polishers coming (including the maxshine) to test out and compare! The build quality of the rupes is fantastic but cost to value... we will see how it compares to the others.
Polishing it's just a waste of time under those circumstances. Just start with 2500 grit and then medium polish with a 50/50 polishing pad. It makes it invisible.
They will definitely help! This care does not have one yet. Ive been using it to do a test between 3 of the turtle was spray on ceramic products. Dude super easy fix no joke grab a heat gun heat it up back and fourth safely then wait couple seconds to cool down and repeat and the etching will disappear I swear to you
I got one on my dark blue mx5 last year when it was left for a couple days at a friends as it had a puncture, found a nice big bird poo on the bonnet when I came back. I lightly polished it and it is barely visible but didn’t want to go chasing it much as the paint is quite thin already.
Fuckign bird dropped a massive crap on my 440 today. I cleaned it within a couple of hours but it etched SO BAD! I don't have a machine polisher, only hand. looks like im going to have to have it detailed.
You probably could but it would take a good amount of effort and would be hard to get a perfect finish. But I’m sure you could achieve a good improvement!
Any good detailing has an arsenal depending on the throw they want , Maxshine could have different specs that work better than Rupes in certain situations. Not every consumer wants to drop $500 on a DA either. Maxshine is more consumer friendly on the mid to low end

@@imjoshv Great to hear from the man himself...thank you! Here in the UK you can get "Re-flow" from Autoglym brand. Mixed results though...they are basically plastic pouches with a kind of charcoal inside. You add 40 ml of cold water, seal the pouch and massage it. They react with the water and get hot / steam comes out of them in about 10 seconds via a vent you tear open. Then stick them to the panel with stickytape tabs provided and leave for 30 minutes. Suddenly, your turtle wax duel on the bonnet of the porshe will not have a result??. Birds love to poop on shiny things, some scientists even think that some birds are smart enough to really harm humans by pooping on their cars 🤣 . Unfortunately it happens to everyone. Would recommend checking out Autoglym's heat pads first before doing any polishing (can't remember the name of them). Pretty sure Forensic Detailing tested them out a little while back. I've used them twice now with great success.. saves shaving off clear coat.
Thanks mike, I’ll check those out for sure!

@@imjoshv Got it thanks! I always gotta complicate stuff and forget KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)
@@paulreichelt1259 thanks mate. I’m guessing it will polish out after the coating wears off? It’s really minimal and nobody notices it except me 😵💫!! Kind of bugging me but can probably live with it tbh
I have a bunch of fine black spots stuck all over my car. It doesn't come off with normal washing and my fingernails don't do anything to them. What are they and is a claybar my best option since it's so much of my car? Is this the brake dust ppl talk about?
If you catch a bird dropping early early enough, what works better without scratching or marring the paint? QD, waterless, or rinseless solution?
I just put a long compression dent in my truck passenger door this morning, It took a massive chunk of paint off as well, Im so mad at myself, you ever done any dent repairs before Josh? I’m curious… great vid man, keep em comin!
I got my MJJC and used it twice already and love it! Now I cant use it til I get my door repaired 😞
Hey Josh. Would Kcx Greenstar be fine to wipe bird poop away. I tried at 5:1 but It left a white powdery residue look. I caught the bird poop incident right away so thank God it didn't hurt my paint on my vehicle
Great video, thank you. But yeah, we need better paint technology!
Any advice?
Ammo NYC specifically has several videos on “how to polish interior plastic surfaces”. He even shows how to polish head unit plastic screens.
i heard heat gun may fix this kind of damage?
How does bird poop etch the clear coat? Like don’t we have the technology to create paints and clear coats that can combat bird crap by now?? Yet we can land on the moon and send massive telescopes into space, no problem. Just amazing
You sure about that moon landing lol?!
How long the bird drop was there for. ?
For your baby you need a very good car cover!!! Thanks for the video!! Hope all is well!!
If it's fresh bird droppings, heat gun or even a hair dryer works great ;)
Just a quick question, won’t that spot u worked with the polisher stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the hood?
Is just doing the whole panel a good way to kind of make it a little less obvious.
l heard Cormorant bird poo is the most damaging
Could you wet sand it off Josh?
I was also pretty conservative with sanding though
use 500 grit
The Rupes and not the Maxshine Mini? I figured this would be the perfect time to cash in on that partnership and test out their new polisher.
They have been out of stock. The rupes is definitely the most well know for this size polisher. I have about 5 other small polishers coming (including the maxshine) to test out and compare! The build quality of the rupes is fantastic but cost to value... we will see how it compares to the others.
Try using boiling water on the just makes them disappear like magic
Apc cleaner spray it on and let it dwell it will melt it away and spray off with water
Polishing it's just a waste of time under those circumstances. Just start with 2500 grit and then medium polish with a 50/50 polishing pad. It makes it invisible.
I was always under the impression that the high end coatings would prevent that kind of damage from occuring.
They will definitely help! This care does not have one yet. Ive been using it to do a test between 3 of the turtle was spray on ceramic products. The side that got the bird poop had Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Graphene and as you can see it did not help. Now that my test is done, i am going to be doing a correction and then applying a true ceramic coating! This still can happen with a ceramic, but it would take the dropping sitting on the paint much longer for it to cause that kind of damage if it did it all
I thought a sealant would have protected the clear coat.
Bro just today , I had a bird poop 💩 on my black m340i , I tried polishing it by hand , no luck 😢
Note to self: 4:50
If the damage is old forget it, improvements can be made but you can't get it all out, no way!
What about cat pee damage?
Is it possible to do this by hand?
You probably could but it would take a good amount of effort and would be hard to get a perfect finish. But I’m sure you could achieve a good improvement!
@@imjoshv thanks
I just did it by hand with menzerna 2500 and a piece of cotton. I attempted 5 times and it perfectly disappeared.
@@kadirtas25 or get out your hair dryer for free
@@quarter_moon_and_a_guitar i didnt try hair dryer but hot water. But it didn’t work
Spray some apc to clean it up
Can you not just use WD40?
What's a minute....the man who promotes MaxShine but using a Rupes. Let me guess...Do what I say, not what I do🤣🤣🤣
Any good detailing has an arsenal depending on the throw they want , Maxshine could have different specs that work better than Rupes in certain situations. Not every consumer wants to drop $500 on a DA either. Maxshine is more consumer friendly on the mid to low end
@@manvsdetails I was fuqing with him.

@@manvsdetails oh by the way everything you stated was facts.
Try a heatgun before removing paint
just a tip, turn ur levels down when recording, u are clipping :) or just get that zoom f2 (it has 32 bit float) so u dont have to deal with adjusting levels while recording, you will always be able to recover in post, need some help let me know, im local
I live on East Coast 5 min from ocean. I honestly think the seagulls aim for cars.
Ha I agree. So annoying
I did a clay bar the affected area after a wash then clean the clay bar off. Then I use C4 and P4 from chemical guys and resolve that nonsense high PH bird shit
5 minutes with a hot air gun used sensibly re-flows the clear coat. You literally watch the etch disappear in front of your eyes.
I’ve heard that but never tried it myself. I’ll give it a shot
I've seen a video where they work on a roof (horizontal surface) but not on a door (vertical) - but I don't think the UA-camr stuck it to the door correctly to be fair to the product.
Please do research into the hot air gun technique first...I'd hate for anything to happen to that gorgeous Porsche!
Great channel by the way!
F’n birds! Gettin to fly around and crap on stuff. I hate em too;)
Hey Josh I've been watching your content for a while and I always come to your channel for the majority of my car detailing tips and tricks. Recently I watched your video about spot free washesm and wanted to ask if have you seen this video about the CR Spotless conversion kit? I'm curious to know your thoughts on this, or even a video covering it maybe in the future if you decide to give it a test run?
ua-cam.com/video/31D2FR3Ur1Q/v-deo.html
There are less expensive models that work great, I bought one for just $100 that came with two interchangeable filters and it’s been amazing. I’d rather spend $100 then $300 for the CR system
Suddenly, your turtle wax duel on the bonnet of the porshe will not have a result??. Birds love to poop on shiny things, some scientists even think that some birds are smart enough to really harm humans by pooping on their cars 🤣
. Unfortunately it happens to everyone. I have an old peugeot 205 turbo diesel for all day, and I had bird poo staying far too long on the right wing, the clear coat had even swollen and the clear coat to jump, suddenly it didn't there was nothing left to save 😢, just a brushstroke and clear coat and voila, luckily it wasn't one of the cars I take care of the most!
Ha yea this actually happened at a good time cause I was done with the test anyways. I had those on for a month and gave my findings from that, but i decided its time to properly correct the paint and give a true ceramic coating!

The truth comes out, stupid birds! Jk, great video!
“Just tap it in...”
Bird shit, you can say it.
Just wet sand it
Birds aren’t real.

I went to the extreme and chopped down all volunteer mulberry trees around the house. They will not be dropping purple poops all over my vehicle!!!
