- Its likely you have either had on your own vehicle or seen on another when bird muck leaves etchings behind on the paintwork that look unsightly and ugly.
We show you how to remove these using just heat and nothing else!
CAUTION: TAKE CARE WITH HEAT NOT TO OVERHEAT PANEL - always allow cooling every 10 seconds or so and never use full heat on a heat gun.

This method is effective, I tried it on my car which had 3 huge etchings and in a matter of a few seconds they're gone. And i only used a hair dryer. Thanks for sharing this.
Worked great. Removed a small quarter sized stain with a hair dryer, when all the other tubers recommend polishing. Wish I could give a thousand likes.
Thank you so much, it worked like magic. Just one thing to notice for anyone wants to do this, make sure you remove ANYTHING (oil, dust, etc.) above the clear coat or they will stick to the clear coat after heated.
Watched this yesterday and thought I would give it a try on a dull patch on my roof caused by bird dropping and I didn't know whether it had gone in too deep. So today armed with a hairdryer I got to work, less than five minutes later all done and no more dull patch, in fact it took longer to get set up first. Thanks for a great tip no more pulling out of the hair and cussing every time I washed my car.
Thank you. I had done a thorough cleaning of my new Mazda CX-5. After I noticed the stain was still there. Your method worked like a charm.
That was great, what a relief when I tried it. Thankfully I caught it before the bugger dried but that remaining film was what I was worried about. A hair dryer did the trick.
I watched this video a few nights ago and had to come back to comment and give you a like. Worked incredibly well. Thanks for the info! Black paint too
Brilliant job there! Tried all sorts to get rid of the etchings and nothing seemed to work but the blow heater! Simple yet so effective.
Worked a treat with a hair dryer. Just used a little Tcut to finish off. Amazing results thank you 😊
This method works like a charm. Got all my 3 days old bird dropping etchings removed. Thank you! Subscribed to show my support.
Great video! IjJust took the plunge with a £15 heat gun on low (400degC) and on a 2” wide splat I did 10 secs heat, 5 sec rest then repeat. Took about 1 minute then all of a sudden it dissolved and disappeared! Make sure to remove other dirt or debris around the area first.
Absolutely brilliant results using a hairdryer on the black roof of my Mini Cooper.
I just tried this and it worked great! thanks
I thought I was going to have to run by the store to pick up a buffer and polishing pads to get the etching off but luckily the heat gun worked. Thanks!
Brilliant!
I have on road parking only and live by the coast, so my car gets covered in seagull poo which has left some serious paint etching.
Thanks for the vid! :-)
This will work if the etchings are not baked deep into the paint. But if they have been baked by the sun for a long time, this method will not work. You will have to resort to a more drastic measure like re clear
Good technique removing the etching but, it's not caused by acidity. Its the heating and cooling of the clear coat causing it to take the shape of the bird poo.
Fantastic and brilliant! I am going to try this tomorrow. Black car, bird dropping etched several spots on the hood. I almost started wet sanding. Thanks again!
Update: I heated and cooled the paint several times. I think the bird droppings were on there too long. There are still burns in the paint. Likely BMW paint on this car is just not the same as the Ford’s paint. Regardless, thank you for the technique!
I have some etchings due to bird droppings on my carbon fiber roof. Do you think using a heat gun will work in removing the etchings?
Thanks
This worked 100% but i used the sun thank you California heatwave 105*
Zillion thanks! Worked perfectly well on my pristine 911 S!!!
Will the flow process work on a car with ceramic coating?
worked like a dream, Thanks!
got a bird dropping then etching yesterday .. after I cleaned it up, tried to do the buffing method with an abrasive .. it looked like it cleared it up but it was back today .. just tried this a few times but it doesn't seem to be budging .. sucks for me I didn't see this yesterday smh .. should I keep trying or is that just a sign it's too etched in ?
White car... multiple etchings of 40-50 days old....just washed today to realise there r these etchings....should a normal hair dryer work?
Would this work on deeper scratches? Deeper than what can be removed with a product like dr.scratch
I have a bird etching underneath my ceramic coating. Will it also work ?
Thanks for posting. Can’t wait to try out but with a hair dryer.
It works! Thank you.
What if it still seen but looks flaky and shiny? How do I remove that?
Thank you very much for this video! Sub'ed
Would this work for water etching?
What temperature is the medium setting on your gun? People need to know the temperature to use thanks
can you do these to white colour car?
Now I know why the minor etching on my car disappeared. We had a really hot summer week. I'll probably try this with my other car though!
Must try this. Will it work on old spots? My son bought a 1994 truck that has many spots I'd like to repair.
It's worth trying. It usually only works on more fresh etchings. It's also likely on a 1994 vehicle it will be single stage paintwork which may respond adversely as not modern clearcoat system. So take care.
I would not recommend doing this on the centre of a flat panel .I know from experience that the panel will deform .but yes where a panel has press forming like that it has a lot of strength and will not deform .god vid though
Did David Copperfield make this video?
How do you gauge the temperature the panel and know when to quit before paint damage occurs?
Will this alter the appearance of metallic paints?
Haha nope no magic here. As you say, you cant know the safety point. Hense the precautions I stress. I've never had an issue on any vehicle at medium heat in approx 10 second intervals. But you just have to use common sense and regularly check the panel. There is of course risk but a little practice and you'll see its pretty user friendly if you take your time:)
Great video, thanks for sharing. Can this technique be used on plastic panels aswell as metal ones?
Yes but be far more mindful of temperature.
Great video, thank you for posting👍
I first tried detail spray and then wax to remove etching from bird poop but neither worked. Can I try this heat gun method now or is it too late?
Nope it's only usually too late if it has really eaten deep into the clear or splintered the surface.
will this method work with dried egg itching? Thanks.
Certainly worth a go!
I GOTTAH TRY THIS TODAY. I have the exact same black fiesta ST . perfect. thanks
oh thats not an ST. anyways same paint
What if it’s been on for months ?
Does this work for light scratches and swirl marks?
No. We actually wondered this ourselves initially but the nature and shape of them doesnt allow itself to this. It seems to only work on a focused defect and those involving chemical/moisture etching.
Any idea of the surface temperature range you need for the reflow to occur?
We dont know exact temperatures. It's just very much a case of patience, stop, inspect and repeating rather than just intense heating.
I am going to try this later today 🙏🏻
oke for me this did not work, but i got a method that worked for me.
my car is well maintained, wax and sealants are applied. But a drop went on my black paint en after a day or two i removed it.
there was a spot left on the clear coat, i tried to remove it with clay, compound (by hand) without success :(
so i had to try the headgun method, gentle i head up the panel but nothing came off.... even not after a couple of minutes (gentle moving the head gun over the spot)
so what i did was heating up the panel and dan use some polish and rub it in by hand (gently) after a few passes the spot disappears completely :) YES it is gone HAPPY.
so even it didn't work with the headgun only it did work in a combination with polish.
Will this work on poop splatter marks left over after a car wash. I cleaned the poop off with a car wash but once dried I can still see the splatter shadow mark in the glare I stare.
Yes that's what these were :)
Tried this with an hair dryer on full heat but didn't work.
Isn't it same as the car exposing to direct sunlight? If so, it's auto curable
Direct sunlight isnt as focussed or as consistent enough to achieve the same result.
Wow
How about on a rental vehicle?
Jk.
All your getting it paint swell. I’m a paint chemist that works for pg. the defect will be back.
Is faster to use hot water in a towel remove more easily.
Didn’t work
