If you get a Goodboy, hope you don't get the self-destructing button lock!
"Really good knife for the money... OOPS!"
Always a good day when one of these drops.
The designer for the kwaiken sym just made an Italian stiletto and gave that other explanation of the design to sound like he came up with something new.😂😂😂
8:20 i said the exact same thing when discussing pocket clips, tip down is the way to go for sure.
The alpha guide is gorgeous, Boker has had a similar knife for years that has always intrigued me.
Great highlights, thanks boys
Love that Buck knife. Inexpensive, quality, practical knives all around.
I love the new Buck Alpha Guide. Nothing could ever replace the classics from Buck like the 119 and 124, but the Alpha Guide does show that they have the forethought to release designs that people with more modern interests in gear will appreciate. Keep them coming Buck! And thank you DCA and KnifeCenter for sharing the good news
There's literally NOTHING special about that knife, it's a knife for people who like to pretend they're "outdoorsmen" but never actually hunt or do anything but cut cardboard in their back yard while they talk about "survival skills"... it looks like Buck is trying to emulate Benchmade and their over-priced, garbage, "hunting" knives.
@@DB.KOOPERok boomer, but any knife could be for the backyard bushcrafter who pretends to know survival skills. You think your knife isn't? I promise you it is
I like that Buck as well, dbkooper needs to relax
The Alpha Guide looks like a good design, but Bucks are almost always very thick-behind-the-edge. White River Knives, on the other hand, consistently delivery excellent ground secondary bevels. Also Buck took the lazy way out on the Alpha Guide by doing shadow-boxed scales.
@@sheltermonkey6065 White River Knives are criminally underrated! They deserve more attention then they get. However, I think you must be mistaken about Buck Knives being thicker behind-the-edge compared to white river. Buck mostly uses hollow grinds which are objectively thinner behind the edge than the flat grinds that White River uses. There's nothing wrong with a flat grind though, in fact, for outdoor/survival/tactical use cases , I would mostly prefer a bit more thickness behind the edge for durability. The thinness of a hollow grind is good for slicey-ness
Thanks for pointing out how natural the transition can be for a tip down carry. People get wayyyy too hung up on which way is better. Reality is they’re both fine, you can get used to either and neither is faster or slower.
Beautiful episode
25:43 Bestechman Goodboy It looks like a great knife, however the button popped out when opened with force. Not sure if it was just a single knife issue, or a design flaw overall. The button should NOT fall out the front of the knife no matter what.
I've had that Boker ring knife hanging from my hiking pack's chest strap for several years, now, and love it. The 14C28N steel is rusting in places from where sweat sits on it, so I'm not sure I could recommend the D2 version (if you were to aspire to the same carry), but that ring allows it to hang inverted and I can pull with either hand (one grip normal, the other ice pick) and it's just a great size and weight.
Holy moly that Buck knife is beautiful.
34:29 Thomas sees his life flash before his eyes.
Chunky without being cluncky totally understand great description
Great video!
Oh yea perfect timing!!
I'm loving the Buck 663 Alpha Guide, and the Fox tool knives, especially the most capable one in that orange.
I gotta get me one of those Fox slip joints.
Blackfox's got a New Bowie?
GET IT TOGETHER AN' BRING IT BACK TOOO MAY!
boker does such nice handle contouring. have you seen their kitchen knives?
please, keep doing the Smooth Cruwear Spyderco variants. They are perfect
Cant wait to pick up the Bestech Lito on the secondhand for 130 USD.
New knives time *YES*
The Tac-Raze can be carried horizontal too with that sheath…
Love the Kwaiken Sym, but hate the price!
Socom Elite is an absolute workhorse. Cannot recommend this knife enough. Glad Microtech is finally meeting the demand.
that alpha guide might be my first fixed blade...
2:38 to quote C&Rrsenal your experiencing “kinesthetic joy!”
Slaptastic joy DCA!
Will be any black blade version of the Ad20.5 in 20cv anytime or ever??????
Boker’s pricing is crazy, they make that knife in China and even with 154cm it would be 50% cheaper from Kizer or Civivi with probably better quality. I never understood their pricing on their knives. D2 over $100 on all their models.
They put micarta and 12c27 on a basic design and say yup that's 150 dollars.
Fox missed the boat with the Nu Bowie by not having thumb studs. Think Baby Banter.
DCA - recently broke my benchmade mini bugout. She's getting shipped off to Oregon to be fixed. However, what would you suggest as a possible replacement while I wait? Crossbar lock and American made preferred. thanks
Is boker tactical mermaid coming back? Ir was it a one off
Hay I have a thought, maybe you can do a show on traditional slipjoint knives for those of us that really like them. Thanks for keeping us informed man!
is there any pocket knives where the blade goes further than the finger guard like kitchen knives?
I bought 3 different steel type Demko knives. Keep getting sucked into it despite trying to hold out for Magnacut. We all know it’s happening but not until all these other avenues are exhausted with the 20.5s
Never dropped the dough for one, but I want to. Worth it you think I’m guessing?
Edit: The 20.5 in particular. I think they just dropped a drop point?
@@bkrateku yeah. I just ordered one a week ago because I’m not a fan of how the clip point cuts. The shark foot works great & the knife itself is incredible
Hey DCA, could you recomend some of your favourite EDC fixed blades with comfy handles? By that I mean something with a slim and short blade and a full size hadle; the Cold Steel Pendleton Mini Hunter and the CRKT Biwa are my two contenders right now, I was wondering if there are any alternatives, since I noticed that this style of knife is often framed as an hunting or skinning knife, and I'm not familiar with those at all. Also, kydex or plastic sheet and below $100 if you can, Thanks.
You should specify the blade length, as there are so many options, including MoraKniv. Have looked at the White River Sendero Pack?
NEW KNIVES!
*YES!!*
Not convinced about the Boker Accomplice. It looks like the Lionsteel H2 (in M390).
The accomplice is a production version of John Grey's custom. So lionsteel be stealing. Try again though.
I love knives
Centrifugal force is what you were trying to say
no QSP Canary? that's probably gonna sell a shit ton of units and came out today..
you can really work that 2.5 inches...
Fox Nu Bowie is Keanu’s old Boker Baba Yaga???
Its not that there are no good budget options at attractive prices - it is instead that the price of what I would call the 5 star production knives have gotten stupid - for example Benchmade - no reason a production edc pocket knife should cost as much as a firearm given the cost of production/materials and the fact that a knife is a relatively simple mechanism - the exception to this I would say is Spyderco who has managed to introduce new designs and still keep their prices reasonable for the most part
when using ethyl alcohol for sterilization it needs to be 70 pct rubbing alcohol as opposed to higher purity work Pure alcohol will not sterilize effectively
Can you use mineral oil on stainless blades for rust prevention or is it unnecessary?
you can and you should, just don't need to do it as often as non-stainless blades
@@jhakimi69 thanks👍
Mineral oil is not a very good corrosion inhibitor compared to specialized products like Fluid Film.
Seems like there is issue with subtitles sync. Segment before intro music is OK, after that though they are too early.
aweome
What do you think that are the toughest steels, and some fixed blade kniveson the larger side?
Because, its easy to be tough in a smaller dimension 😉
5160, CPM 3V.
What‘s new on the Boker Accomplice. Owned it several years ago.
I'm pretty sure I ordered mine from them like 5 years ago
The Goodboy is nice but they better get their button lock issue revolved.
I've tried 2 different AD20.5 from 2 different companies and the sharks tab has been very sharp and uncomfortable to release the blade. Is this something that is always going to be the case for these knives? If so, what a shame.
800 grit and higher will take of the sharpness on the shark lock, also a ceramic file works good too. And on the full size ad20, this isn't a issue.
David C please give a little advice about sharpening recurves. How much recurve can you safely sharpen with flat stone system such as my work sharp? Concerned about the corners of the Stone damaging blade. Thanks
Recurves aren’t that hard to sharpen, if they are really recurved you want to use flat stones and hand sharpen them. On a fixed system try and use then thinnest width stones you can, most basic recurves like the tops knife just sharpen like usual just in smaller section on the recurve.
You know the economy is slowing down when socom elites are still in stock hours later 😂
Cheap stuff gives me the runs, too.
I was hoping you guys would feature the Cold Steel 5Max, since it's just become available this week.
5 is more than 4.
@@PrinceAsmodeus Citation needed.
@@jwesley235 it's science.
Isnt that goodboy the one that self destructed on Mc’s channel?
Sure is.
I really want a 20.5. Either the Sharkfoot or Slicer blades. REALLY wish I had the funds for the Ultem version
What are these prices even
Talk about the new cool 80ish$ Condors Dave. They fit nicely as EDC's with nice sheaths for a killer price.
I know large production batches of a given steel can be finicky to heat treat properly. That said, I feel like way too many manufacturers are putting out subpar heat treatments.
Idk if knife companies are reading these but hey, if you are, pick up your game. Innovate. For my dollar, Spyderco's S30V is eating your lunch.
everyone seems to know about the bestechman button lock issues 😅
Greetings DCA, Great episode... I'm looking for a good pocket fix blade for up to $100.00 dollars. I would like to stay away from cr series...That you...
「Tops-TAC RAZE」 欲しい!
日本の「肥後の守」より使いやすく現代的。
35:21 that's what she said
I have to consume a few whiskey 🥃 before you mention prices 😱
😂
Buy less whiskey and save up for a nice knife. 👍
@@Quagmire925 I’ve been collecting for decades and luckily bought many of the best knives before Joe Biden became President 👍
$400 for the textured titanium Demko!? Way too much... When you start getting up into that price range the competition just blows that knife out of the water!
i havent met anyone who says affordable cheap knives dont exist?
If you can't find a good cheap knife these days you ain't lookin.
DCA, the karambit they were asking about in that video was folding karambits, not fixed blades lol
Bestechman Goodboy was NOT a character in the Crucible
Boker looks like a bad knock off of the Borka Srambit imo
New Knives
Great job DCA , this vid was off the hookedness 😂
Thank you for positively explaining the benefits of tip up vs tip down in regard to minimal motion for a smoother full grip on the handle of the knife. So many folks blindly follow the "tip up as god intended" ideal. However, some folders are much easier, smoother and faster to deploy with your thumb from tip down. My humble opinion as a simple peasant.
The problem of the 20.5 is that its half the size it should be. Microtech on the other hand is going in the right direction. They finally start making the knives available that everybody wants after years of to low supply
20.5 is half the size it should be??
Gimme some cpm154 if it keeps the price under 300 frigging dollars. D2 anybody? Anyone?
Anything but cpm 154/154cm.. it loses bite so easy after 1000 grit.
Prices have gone crazy, absolutely outrageous prices for knives that are really worth probably 1/2 less. The Microtech Socom Elite might be the only one I'd buy for that price.
With interest rates up and student loans coming due again, I bet sales of $200+ knives are going ⬇️ A resurgence of economical knives is coming.
Folders are usually a no-go unless it is the Microtech SOCOM Elite or the Extrema Ratio Rao II. If you have TRC Apocalypse, TRC Mille Cuori, TRC Speed Demon, Fällkniven A1xb there is almost no interest in anything else as quality, functionality and design are hard to beat (personal opinion and based on my use cases).
Fox Vulpis have some premium materials, but ugly blade shape IMO, I'd still take a Victorinox SAK any day over those models.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems that every time we see a new Demko model, the price has risen another $25.
You mean more expensive materials make the knife cost more? 🤯 whod've thunk it
@@brianc2399many knives aren't, what's your point big shoots?
Maybe he wants USA made at that price point
@@brianc2399So? Do you have the same recommendation for knives made in Germany? France? Italy? Japan?
Oh wow, that’s not good to hear,as much as I like this guy and the channel.
DCA! I think your work is solid, otherwise, but you've been spacing out on prices more, recently. Like with the Swiss Army Foxes, in this episode; you say the base, single-blade one starts at $33, but then you skip the prices on every other version.
I figured you'd want to know.
For the money I wish that the Microtech wasn't made in China.
2 hand opening is a big no no
I may be a weird one but the Demco 2.5 seems like blasphemy to me. I'd rather have the full size. I'm not saying its bad, but im used to his big designs.
I know you're trying to sell knives, but have you ever seen knife that you don't like ?or Have anything bad to say about it.I I would like to say the entire video about that
I'm sure they have but aren't going to say anything that even remotely causes anyone to not buy the products they have on their site. Which is a shame because there's always at least two or three knives in every one of these videos that should be addressed, whether it be price, design, or just something that lacks any kind of originality.
They’re not an independent review channel, they’re a retailer with a channel designed to advertise and bolster sales. They don’t claim to be anything else, no shady underhanded tactics.. they want you to buy knives from them. They don’t hide that and have never claimed to be anything else.. literally hundreds of other channels if you’re looking for that, though I’d stick to the smaller ones that don’t do it as a full time job.. commission/affiliate sales should *1000%* be considered promotional content with the mandatory disclaimer, retailers should always have to use it too.. UA-cam really needs to be a lot more strict with that.
What's the click bait knife. Don't have a half hrs to find out thanks.
For the price of some of these knives, I’d rather get a Glock 19
First!!! Way to go Dave and Crew!
Arcform= Greedy
second ! ...😊
Demko? No thx
Sorry, but to me a cheap knife is one under $20. $50 is the most expensive of the cheap realm and over $50+ is expensive.
Saying "Finger safe" knife is a bit to far id say... I don't know of a single knife ever that is "finger safe"....
Warning!!!! KnifeCenter does not even look at the knives they send. They sent me one with a chipped blade and customer service told me I should have asked them to look for defects before they shipped it to me...like quality control is my job!!
Send that shit back.
Damn hopefully they see this comment cuz that response would have had me heated.
Um, quality control isn't Knifecenter's job either. That would be on the manufacturer. Curious what knife it was.
@@BrianK_70Um, yes it is. It’s the manufacturer and the retailer’s responsibility.
Don't they generally come in sealed boxes from the manufacturer? I assume you were able to return/exchange it...
Totalitarianism sucks David C Anderson.
