Hey plant friends! Hopefully you find this video useful if you are trying to propagate Tuberous Begonias. I would be really interested to know if anyone has done this before do you have any variation in technique for this. Thanks Pete

You said this was late autumn, how long do you leave the tubs outside ?
One assumes that they MUST remain frost free.
Can you expect a tuber to eventually form and will they flower the following spring ?

Thanks for your comment 😁 yes this was filmed September 21. They were left outside until mid october. Then I moved them into my carport because a couple started to fail due to the cold, the carport is only covered on three sides so let in sufficient light while still keeping away from the elements. Yes absolutely frost free. The only caveat to this is that the mother plant stays out all winter in the container and has came back for me. Some people say that begonias can sometimes not come back after winter due to frost but I took the risk and this wasn’t my experience, the mother plant is putting on new growth again this year. As long as the cuttings are rooted before it gets too cold (about 4 weeks for me) and the tubs were kept reasonably moist they did ok over winter. They didn’t produce any growth over winter but they are thriving now.
With regards to the tuber question I genuinely have no idea, so far none of mine have produced tubers, they just produced roots like any other cutting but I would seriously hope for tubers over the course of a couple of seasons. I plan to do an update video this year to show how they’re going. Out of the 21 I cut 6 failed, I removed them from the tubs and the rest are doing great.
The only thing I would do differently is give them a little more room in the tubs. Maybe only 2-3 per tub. Having left them wrapped up in a tub for so long they started to produce some mould, nothing serious, more on the surface of the sand than the cuttings themselves but it was definitely something I needed to keep on top of. However it was nothing I couldn’t remove with about 5-10 mins work when I unwrapped to top up some water.
      Hope this helps. Pete
