In this video I show you how you can propagate any plant! This is an awesome skill to have in your gardening arsenal because it will allow you to duplicate your plants and save time and money!
Make sure to watch all the way through because I will be showing you how to take vegetative cuttings as well as how to properly split plants that are not easily propagated from cuttings.
Hi!
My name is Justin and I have my managed my family's business (S&K Greenhouse) for the last 10 years! It is a local garden center in Shelby, NC that my family started around 25 years ago.
We have a strong desire to discuss and teach gardening to the online community and welcome anyone who wants to learn. Though we have been involved in the plant world for decades we have found that there is always something to learn when it comes to gardening.
Whether you are a master gardener or just starting out this channel is for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our videos!

What plant are you going to try propagating?? 😊
Lantana & maybe boxwood & coleus in water
I have jasmine, gardenia, and bougainvillea.
Boxwood, Veronica
Hydrangeas, coleus maybe Veronica
I’m gonna try my hand at cuttings today, starting with Hosta and Buddleia.
It's refreshing to see a seller encourage people to propagate plants instead of buying more from him.
Refreshing 😂
Nah, peoples are lazy nowadays.
How is that refreshing💀💀💀
Really encouraging to buy certain plants that you love; propagate and transplant or gift. I did a whole bunch of citronella (mosquito plant)cuttings a few years ago and gave as gifts. The other benefits I noticed was it makes the stems stronger and the plant bushes out. It also keeps it from getting leggy. It is considered a annual
In my climate so I found they overwinter in my garage on the side of my window where it isn’t getting direct sunlight. I watered every 3 weeks to keep moist and take them out in the spring once overnight temps are in the 40’s
I do this with all my annuals: geraniums, cannas, mountain euphorbias. They look a bit rough because they are basically hibernating, just clean them up as you would in your flowerbeds by using the 3 D’s method ( Damaged, Diseased, Dead) .
I've never seen such a clear and simple way of showing how to propagate. Thank you sooooo much!
This is one of the countless skills that any nation that wishes to enjoy a safe, producrive place in the world needs it's people to have. Nobody can know it all but bad things happen to nations and the collective local knowlege of the people and their natural resillience is that one cutting or cold stratified seed that can reestablish it's soul.
I love this guy's energy! Gardening with a smile is beauty all by itself
RUNNING WITH SCISSORS ✂️!!!!!!! BWHAAAA
Another great video. Thank you.
🤣
Great videos 👍👍👍
I didn’t realize he was the owner! I wondered how noone in the garden-center questioned what the heck he was doing 😂Great, informative & enthusiastic video.TY👍🏻
SAME xD
An excellent, educational and efficient video without the redundant comments, but with all the ‘critical details’ to show us how to be successful as we propagate! Thank you, thank you!
I've watched several videos on propagating plants and I have to say, I got it watching your video. I now know that I don't have to break the bank anymore buying costly plants. Thank you.
No running with scissors! Lol...😉 Thanks for all you do, you do a great job!
So helpful! Thank you!!
Love the way you teach , thanks
I do my oregano and monkey grass by splitting. Had 3 oregano plants last year now I have 10. Thank goodness my husband’s Italian 😂
Ok guys I did this and now have three free tomato plants :
Tomato plants have one main stalk and at the very bottom when usually two more grow as close to the main stalk as possible pop the other ones off and put the end of the stem in water. A week later itll have roots. Let the stem get several roots and plant after the heat for the day has cooled (after 5/6pm) plant them in pots in a partially shaded area to let them get acclimated to the heat and slowly move them in the sun.
You inspired us to propagate an azalea from my husband’s Mom’s house (she passed away last year)! His Mom is who he got his green thumb from 💜. Thank you for the info and inspiration!
I'm preparing to make a memorial garden for my grandmother who raised me, she has passed away at the age of 93. She loved growing flowers a veggies. I want to get flowers from her yard to put in the memorial
garden. This has changed my game big time.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXCELLLENT ADVICE, WHAT A HAPPY PERSON YOU ARE.
In winter or early spring- you can cut some roses branches- put in the pot or wet soil in back yard - will grow- very easy .
Don’t need to go buy new roses plants.
Water often .
Thank you for finally showing us exactly how to cut at the nodes. Every one else just assumes we know where and how to do this 😊
Thank you sir👍u are the best like your TEACHING so into detailed.from root to tree 🤗❤❤❤❤❤❤keep doing your thing .am watching and following.😗👍
I just found your channel 4 days ago. Glad it turned out in my feed. I have learned so much in these last few days. Thank you!
❤❤❤❤
Glad I found your channel!
I have propagated many potho's using only 1 leaf and 1 node. Leaving just about an 1/8-1/4" stem on either side of the node. Put in water (changing water every couple of days) plant when roots are about 2-3". Works great!
Thanks Justin love your videos and FYI your enthusiasm is very catching, can’t help but smile watching ❤️
great video. one tip I have-I use old vitamin bottles to put my cuttings in when I use water. I do this with tomatoes, but I didn't realize you could do it with many plants.
Well done!!!
👏👏👏
I must have read a thousand plant books. This is the very best explanation on rooting cuttings I’ve come across. Thanks.

Gardening made easy!! Thank you 💐
Awesome video….thanks for showing how simple and easy this process could be.
Aloha from Hawaii. Love your energetic videos. I retired a few months ago and have combed UA-cam for inspiration. You are one of those people. This video has inspired me to try to propagate the few plants in my yard. I’m in zone 12b and my part of the island is the drier side and we are experiencing drought. I wish I could get some of the plants you mentioned in your other videos but finding a grower who can ship here is not easy. Home Depot and Lowes are our biggest suppliers. Take care and keep making your wonderful videos.
Thank you for your kind words. Your support is why I do what I do. Wish I could open up a garden center in Hawaii! I bet it's beautiful!
So glad I found this video & thank you so much for the help !
Tomorrow I’ll be gathering cuttings 😊
