Hi! I am a licensed esthetician and I have been seeing a derm for 8 years to manage acne. Every professional I have talked to in my field, as well as the dermatology field, have said that if you are peeling to this extent, you NEED to reduce how often you’re applying. A little peeling at first is normal. But it is imperative to go low and slow while your skin adjusts.
Ues! Or you can wait till after you use moisturiser and apply it on top so you have a buffer - use only a pea sized amount spread gently and thinly on troubled areas!! No one warned her because you don't use makeup when trying to get flawless new skin! In essence the neurotic vanity and urge to hide is causing enough stress to make the acne break out even worse!!
Does anyone have tips for skin that can get this dry without a retinoid? I have combo, sensitive, acne-prone skin so I feel like I’m always trying to balance treating blackheads/occasional whitehead with skin that can also get dry and flaky.
@@robinp7783 I have a dry skin condition (atopic dermatitis) and acne, so I'll try to answer something here as you don't exactly seem to be drowning in answers. 😂 Everyone's skin is different so your question is super hard to answer without knowing more, but I'll put up some pointers that come to my mind. * what you described about your skin doesn't quite explain dryness to the point of being flaky. Dryness to that extent needs an explanation. Is It possible you have a dry skin condition? -> go see a derm. Is It possible you have contact dermatitis? -> stop using all your products, just use a VERY basic mild cleanser + moisturizer for a few weeks and see if the dryness resolves. If so, you're propably sensitive to an ingredient in one of your products. I'd try to get to the bottom of this dryness/flakiness issue first. It really sounds like your skin is quite unhappy with _something_ . *I'm left wondering what you mean by "balancing" acne care and caring for the dryness. If you're not on retinoids or benzoyl peroxide for the acne there really is no balancing. Other acne treatments such as salicylic acid or azelaic acid are not particularly drying for most people and what little drying effect they might have can be easily countered by switching to a thicker, more occlusive moisturiser. Speaking of moisturiser: I hope you are not skimping on moisturisation because of the blackheads/acne? Because that doesn't help, quite the contrary. Moisturisers don't contribute to acne, but can infact help the skin inside your pores to shed normally rather than clumping together and forming comedones. Moisturising is just as important for acne-prone skin as it is for everyone else. And make sure your moisturiser is occlusive enough. The flakiness thing as well as you describing your skin as sensitive makes me think of the possibility of an underlining skin barrier issue. If that's the case you're skin is "leaking" moisture and needs an occlusive moisturiser to help keep the moisture in. Which in turn helps all your skin functions normal pore function included.
@@robinp7783Aveeno! I have hypersensitive skin, allergic to soo many products and have dry flakey skin. Not anymore though thanks to their Calm and Restore line! It saved my skin! Also look up Dr. Idriss on here, her moisturizer is amazing! I’ve been using it and love it even more than the Aveeno calm and restore moisturizer but if you’re on a budget Aveeno is the way to go 🫶🏻
Purging is part of the process. This is when people give up, don't. It takes about 2 to 3 months for purging to last. What you are experiencing is normal. It will get better. Then stay on it for life. I have been on tretinon for 15 years. My is for anti aging.
My pigmentation is getting darker with tretenoin should i stop it ? I have been using tretinoin since 15 day Does tretinoin helps to fade pigmentation too ? Plz reply
@WiltedKuwaitSalad it's pretty frustrating, I used it after being pregnant & I got cystic + fungal acne all at once but the results now are amazing, it was so worth it after month 5
@@msbabycakes001 yeah I’ve struggled with acne my entire life and it definitely is worth it but for the first six months every time I’m just full of cystic acne lol.
While it was peeling I put hydrocortisone on it I believe you can get it OTC or you can get it through prescription but my brother has eczema and I use his
Yep! What helped, although it sounds counterintuitive I know, was applying powder foundation. For some reason liquids would cake up and get crusty but powder foundation with just a flat dense brush being patted on without disturbing all the skin that’s being shed looked way better. Everyday minerals was my go to and still is. Super pigmented the denser the brush/more you pack it on too, but I’d use concealer under where needed also
Actually skin is not supposed to have texture. It’s mainly clogged pores. I only have texture around nose, chin, forehead but not on my cheeks and jawline. I believe if my skin can be that tight & smooth where you can’t see pores, then that means that my skin in texture areas can be smooth as well. Also look into the gut brain connection. Your skin purges toxins through pores and can cause acne and oily skin.
I’ve been on tretinoin for 6 years and I haven’t worn foundation at all for this reason at first and now I don’t need it at all. I also take Spiro, use clindamycin and azelaic acid. The peeling was INSANE , the only things that have really worked for me in that regard were cérave PM before the Tret and slugging with Aquaphor.
This is the best answer. I use tetrinoin daily on top of my moisturizer and also do the slugging technique. I am 52 and get compliments on my skin all the time.
My skin hardly ever peeled and I’ve been using Tretinoin for a year. I now use Tretinoin cream 2x week and on the 2nd day I use aha/bha and that helps me peel the dead skin cells. I have small flaky skin for a couple days and then it goes away. Don’t use Tretinoin every day because it does irritate the skin and causes it to look dehydrated and dull.
I have been using tretinoin since 15 days. Skin has got better.. Purage ain't that much.. Peeling is little.. I use. 05 tretinoin (1/4 part tretinoin, 3/4part moisture, my doctor advised Mr to use it this way) and can't wait for the results after 6 months 😩😩
If you’re using tretinoin overnight - use glycolic acid in the morning to remove dead skin. I also wouldn’t use that much makeup if I’m doing any kind of peel. Maybe just concealer to hide some imperfections
Use a setting spray throughout each step of your base, even before applying foundation and apply with a sponge instead of a brush - this is what helped me
Lower your use until your skin heals! There’s always gonna be some peeling, but that’s why some gentle manual exfoliation is essential!! Lots of moisturizer after exfoliating with a clean wet towel in the morning makes my skin nice and hydrated. Haven’t had problems with makeup
(As an experienced acne related prescription retinoid user) I do not recommend using an exfoliator while on prescription retinoids. Exfoliation will ruin your barrier even more and will lead to more spots caused by irritation. It’s much more useful to focus on hydration and replenishing the barrier with for example ceramides :)
As someone who peeled for almost a year before seeing any progress, it gets better. I was so depressed that honestly the peeling didn’t really affect my mental state. I was at rock bottom. So for me, it made stick to it, since nothing mattered anymore. I was hopeless. But it paid off. I’ve been using for 8 years now and clear skin. 😊
Low and slow is importaint! Reduce to using just 1-2 nights per week, then after 2-3 weeks, try to increase one more night per week. It may take you 2-3 months to work your to nightly use. Moisturize before applying, let dry completely, then apply a SMALL pea sized amount by dotting it on each cheek and your forehead - rub in, let dry completely and then finish with a second layer of moisturizer. That should help minimize the dryness and peeling.
I've been using tretoinin for almost a decade - it gets MUCH better. I only get slightly flaky around my chin on occasion & that usually correlates with forgetting to exfoliate (super gently) in the morning. Hints: Wait about an hour after washing your face at night. Make sure youre using gentle cleansers and great moisturizers. Calming or products geared towards sensitive skin are super helpful. Good luck! This too shall pass. ❤️ Edit: if the peeling continues, consider going down to a lower strength until your skin acclimates, OR use every other night & slowly build up to nightly. (After years of the same strength, I actually had to drop down a few months ago. My skin started turning red/pink easily & flaking on the sides of my chin. I do notice that its not quite as effective, but the lack of flaking & redness is worth it.)
Yes! Been using for acne for nearly a decade, I often mix it with equal parts moisturizer so it’s easier on my skin or skip a night if I’m feeling sensitive ❤
Hey girl I know you’ve probably tried everything and I don’t wanna give unsolicited advice, but as a licensed esthetician here I have an idea. Try slugging your face before applying makeup❤ use a gentle hydrating cream moisturizer and apply a generous layer, let it sink in for a minute then apply either Vaseline or aquaphor- any petroleum based product. Then let it sit like a face mask for maybe 30 minutes and wash off with your normal cleanser. This has helped when I’ve gone through a similar skin journey. YOU GOT THIS GIRL AND LOOK GREAT 🎉
I use a dental floss string and Gently go over the flaking areas so they fall off faster. Daily I use a silicone base primer and SPF zinc oxide tinted moisturizer (Cotz) and wear it as a base. This normally replaces my need for foundation to even out my skin tone. If I wear makeup I apply concealer in the discoloration areas and blend it with setting spray. Then I add small baking powder and a foundation pressed powder on top. I use “it cosmetics “ it’s hydrating and looks very natural. Also I never wear Tretinoin every day but 2x a week and 2 days after I use aha/ bha from “medicube”. I wear hyaluronic acid and beef tallow as moisturizer.
Hey, I wanna ask why and for what tretinoin is used? I'm 23 and I've super oily skin, if it's used for anti aging, can I use it and upto what percentage. Also what should I use, this or retinol?
It’s been over a year now of tret for me. It is worth it!!! Please remember this. I’m sharing to encourage you. My makeup also looked like this, even at like 6-8 months when I finally thought my skin was getting the hang of it. Just go slowwww. Take short breaks if you want. But it is worth it!
I think you should talk to your prescriber about getting a lower dose or switching to a different retinoid derivative altogether. It looks like your skin might be irritated more than purging. The best type of retinoid after all is one that you’ll keep using!
Ive used Arazlo for many years and I recommend avoiding putting it around your mouth/crease of nose/smile like because it will get extremely irritated, flakey, and painful because the skin is extra sensitive there. And maybe start with once every day or two at first while your skin adjusts
I’ve used tretinoin 1x a week for a good while now and I still get that extreme peeling every time after a couple of days of applying. I used to use retinal 10 daily for a long time before starting tret. It truly is a different kind of battle with tretinoin.
I actually like it when it peels as i feel it's doing its job of really turning over those skin cells quickly! I just moisturise well, sunscreen and a little spot concealer to hide the worst of the redness. The skin looks more fresh, and the peeling is much less visible
I’ve had cystic acne and tried everything the only cure for me was Accutane. No side effects I actually miss being on it because my hair never got oily. Haven’t had a pimple in 2 years, my skin was double the breakout you’re showing. Thanks for showing this anyway ❤
Yeah I never wore makeup when I was on acne treatment. I’d say avoid putting makeup where you have acne but it should be fine to use concealer (around the eyes), mascara, eyebrows & lip products. I also really recommend slugging! It helped me a lot especially when even SKINCARE would peel 😂 and I mean slugging in the daytime! It helped me a ton frfr
I will scream from the rooftops!! The Cerave Resurfacing Night Cream SAVED my skin. It calmed my skin at night and got rid of all of my dead skin that would come off throughout the day. I recommend it to anyone on Tretinoin. Nothing else worked for me like it did when it came to this exact issue.
Hey, I wanna ask why and for what tretinoin is used? I'm 23 and I've super oily skin, if it's used for anti aging, can I use it and upto what percentage. Also what should I use, this or retinol?
Hi...I am 55 snd in my 30s, I used Trent and retinal with accutane. It so dried out my skin but afterwards I had beautiful flawless skin. Now in my 50s I get compliments all the time because I don't have many wrinkles Stick with it you won't be disappointed. Good luck❤
I stared using retinal last year . I peeled for months.. everything from oils to normal face creams peeled . I just rubbed my fingers on my skin until it stopped peeling every time . I did not use any makeup . Now a year later my skin is better than it has been in 20 years. All my dark spots peeled away. My doctor told me they would never go away again. I hardly have wrinkle left and no blemishes. I might get a tiny one around my lip area a few days before my period, but I just goes away. I’m blown away with my skin care routine!!! And I’ve only used “cheap” brands like the ordinary, Cosyx, the only list, Nivea , makeup revolution and Vaseline So just go with the peel, it’s a natural part of the process .
Thank you for showing what real skin looks like 🙈🙈 this is exactly what mine liked like when i started tret. Thankfully it looks so much better now and i actually get compliments on my skin!!! Never thought that would be me..
Just pause the makeup during this stage. It looks much better! Afterwards you can get back to it. It also this huge amount of makeup kinda defeats the purpose, cuz you’re trying to get rid of the gunk in your skin, but putting makeup onto them is just going to do the opposite and massively reduce the efficacy of tret in clearing out your skin. Hope this helps ❤
Yes! I actually like it when it peels as i feel its doing its job of really turning over those skin cells quickly! I just moisturise well, sunscreen and a little spot concealer to hide the worst of the redness. It looks fresher and the peeling is much less visible
I’ve been on Tretinoin for 2-3 years. It changed my skin and it is now my holy grail, if I want to wake up with better looking skin than I had the day before I apply this at night. I dont apply in morning/under makeup, not sure if that’s what you’re doing. Then yes throughout the day I typically get most of my dryness on my chin and around my nose, (this slows/stops once you’ve been consistent) I extra moisturize those areas, apply sunscreen, foundation, then setting powder pressing it into those areas…apply rest of makeup, then setting spray. You should be good for the day especially since I sweat a lot and am very active at work.
This happen to me to! It lasted around 2 3 weeks but sooo worth it! I would double cleanse at night and before putting on make up. That’s what I did and it helped tremendously! A Korean or Japanese oil cleanser
Girl went through this too. But I promise it is all worth it!!! Finished taking it in 2020 and have had MAYBE five spots since. 10000% worth it in the end just gotta get through the terrible part😭
Try differin if retin-a is too strong. You still get the same benefit it’s just like 100 times more gentle. You’ll still peel but not as bad. The higher the percentage of vitamin a the more you will peel. Slow down your usage and use the sandwich method, lay down moisturizer then apply retinoid, then another layer of moisturizer
Are you using non-comedogenic products on your face?? I do and it’s a game changer, but ad I’ve gotten older, I’ve also had to use nicer product lines or just be careful even still. Benzol Peroxide is also a NECESSITY if you have skin like that. 10% benzol peroxide is what you need. Panoxyl is a good face wash with that.
This is honestly why i was shocked to see your makeup look so good. Even without retinoids, all makeup cakes up on my scabby acne, making it more noticeable than if i just wear no makeup.
Have you heard about face basting with diaper rash cream? I know it sounds crazy but there are dermatologists who recommend it for red and dry, irritated skin because it has zinc oxide which has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and reparative properties. Try the Triple Paste diaper rash cream over night specifically when your skin gets irritated like this from the a retinoid. Just make sure you don’t put on the tretinoin and the cream together. Hope this helps.
Yes! I love using diaper rash cream..i use bepanthan...just wondering why you say not to use at the same time as tret? I usually layer first tret, let dry, then cerave moisturiser...let that sink in, then i "slug" with bepanthan or vaseline (whichever one i feel i need that night). Always wake up with beautifully moisurised skin, and really helps with healing my acne
@@KelLAkiwi I think I recall one of the dermatologists recommending that they aren’t used together in the same night, but by all means, if it works great with you and doesn’t cause problems, then there’s no reason to change up your nightly routine. 😊 I thought maybe it would irritate the skin more, but it’s way more convenient to be able to use both of them together
I'm two years into Tretinoin and even though I've finished the purging phase and my skin genuinely isn't visibly peeling anymore, it's never gotten to the point where it doesnt look crusty AF with foundation or bb cream on, no matter the formula. I've resigned myself to using powder or just resting on skincare alone, it looks so much better on me that way.
All retinoids will work by normalizing skin cell turnover, but there's a period at the beginning where peeling and breakouts will be worse and gradually subside. If it doesn't become more manageable you can work with your derm on dosing percent. A higher concentration of retinoid won't necessarily be more effective, but it will be more irritating. You can also start at fewer days per week and work up to every other day gradually as your skin gets used to the retinoid.
Hey girl I'm going through this too! I found a combo that works for me. I wash my face in the morning with salycilic or glycolic acid face wash to get rid of as much dead skin as possible. I use Mario Badescu glycolic acid face wash or the peach slices salycilic acid face wash. I rub it in really well and leave it on my skin while I brush my teeth in the morning for at least 3 minutes. Then I rub it off really well just with my fingers to try to get as much dead skin off. Then I follow it up with the peach slices toner, heavy moisturizer (korean skincare is the best) cosrx overnight moisturizer mask or the beauty of Joseon night cream. You need something heavy even in the day. Then I follow it with another korean sunscreen like the Beauty of Joseon SPF 50+++ or Biore UV Aqua Rich SPF 50 ++++. Then put a light layer of aquaphor wherever your skin is really dry. You can top it all off with your favorite CC cream or foundation. I've used the Purito BB cream, the Misha CC cream, Haus Labs foundation and Ulta Complexion Crush Foundation and they all looked good. The key for me was to set the foundation with a loose powder (wet n wild, Kokie, laura mercier, hourglass, they all worked similarly) and a very large fluffy brush. Then you have to spray with a hydrating setting spray to lock everything in. I've used a bunch of wet n wild ones, the ELF power grip spray, morphe continuous setting mist, Mac fix plus. They all work and lasted at least 6 hours. I also take a mini aquaphor, setting powder, setting spray and high coverage concealer like the loreal or covergirl shape tape dupes to touch up when I'm out for a long time.
I use tretinoin. And when I started out my skin did not do this at all. Start low and go very slow with it. Also do the sandwich method. Moisturiser, tretinoin, then moisturiser last.
i’ve been on tretinoin for about 10 months now and i’ve experienced the same peeling/flakiness. i recommend taking a steamy shower and gently rubbing your face. it may take a minute or two but the dead skin comes right off and skin looks great afterwards 🖤
Ive been using Retin-a for years and I am still peeling. I try to only do the retin-a once or twice a week and if I have an event coming up where I know I wanna wear makeup, I do not apply the retin-a for at least 5 days beforehand. I also use a microfiber cloth while cleansing for a couple days beforehand to remove the flakes. The best foundations for my dry skin are Tower28 SunnyDays tinted spf. Shiseido Synchro radiant lifting foundation. Dior Forever foundation was good too. The best move is to just do spot covering (undereyes, freckles, etc) with Haus Labs concealer. I’ve tried a zillion products, those are the best for my dry flaky skin.
One very good tip - you can use luke warm water in the shower and just let your face get the luke warm water on it , then gently rub your skin , very gently don't be harsh , it's a form of exfoliation . This tip has been helping me a lot . Also if you're doing this thip DON'T use any other form of exfoliation, do this tip only once a week
Slather your face in triple paste before and after using tret, dr Idriss calls it the sandwich method and it’s the only way I’ve been able to get the dryness under control the next day. Be consistent you will thank yourself xxx
Also exfoliating that skin that is about to peel before it does! There are really gentle exfoliating face washes that could help you move along. Or your arazlo dose is too high.
Before you put on makeup in the morning, make a conscious effort to remove the loose skin with a warm face cloth, as the first step of your skin prep. That should at least keep the flakey skin at bay while wearing makeup. This method is preferred over chemical exfoliation, because that would be reserved for the evenings (every other night and spaced out from your uses of Tret)
Don’t give up! It gets better! Try applying tretinoin every other day or every two days to cut back irritation until you can work up to every day. Good luck!
This happened to me as well but I was told to lower the amount I’m using to every other day and to moisturize first then wait about 15-20mins before applying tret then I worked my way up to everyday and now I don’t have to use a moisturizer for a barrier either. Slow and steady wins the race, don’t give up.
Don’t stop using. Try this first!Put your moisturizer on first and then put tretinoin over with another layer of moisturizer. This will allow your skin to adapt in a more gentle way. That’s how I started tretinoin and I had very little peeling and I also had my daughter and clients start this way as well. (I’m an esthetician of 15 years) you’ll be so happy you stuck with it. And if that doesn’t work maybe you need a lower percentage. Good luck babe! You are gorgeous and deserve to be happy in your skin ❤
This is super relatable! I’m using the retinol otc version for my acne however it’s still peeling. At this point I’m just avoiding makeup until it gets better I think.
It gets better I swear!!! I was in the same boat and almost gave up but it was so worth not doing so!! Embryolisse and snail muncin was a life saver for me when I was going through the peeling stages!!!
If I needed to wear makeup during my beginning phase of using tret I used vani cream plus aquaphor and that really helped stopping my skin from pealing! When I tell you I spent HUNDREDS of dollars on skin care to only wake up dry irritated and flakey!? That I could believe the vani cream and aquaphor was all I needed and still use till this day!!
Make sure you are doing the “sandwich technique” and use a thick moisturizer that doesn’t have any active ingredients. Also use Aquaphor/Vaseline in the corners of your mouth and nostrils. Makes all the difference.
Retinol and similar compounds ducj as tretinoin accelerate the renovation rate of the skin, aka make it peel faster. That’s why you skin peels off whenever you use make up. During this phase you should not use make up, just a regular skincare consisting of cleansing + hydration + sunscreen. The results pay off and you’ll be able to wear make up soon. ❤ (licensed pharmacist with 7 years of expertise).
I think you have to use it less often and work your way up. Im so glad I can finally use Tretinoin but it took so long for me to get used to it. Just try to stick it out. It made a big difference for me!! I’ve struggled with acne since I was 10 years old smh. And I could never tolerate Tretinoin. Even adapalene irritated my skin. But I started slow and then worked my way up. So now I can tolerate 0.025% but only 3xweek.
I started adding tinted mineral sunscreen to a thick moisturizer such as Vanicream and it helped with the peeling/flakiness. I only use a small amount of Vanicream to redistribute the tinted sunscreen but sunscreen alone peels and traditional makeup seems the worst for flaking. You’re obviously reducing the stated spf but it’s better than nothing and actually leaves me skin looking very even and glowy. I don’t wear any other type of makeup so I can’t really speak to how it would work with eyeshadow and blush etc but I noticed that concealers and foundations were a no.
Tretinoin really helped me with my acne . And what I’ve noticed for me is that applying makeup worsened my skin more.. I stopped using makeup when I was on tretinoin and adaplene . You will get to see a huge difference girls I know it’s hard to go out with makeup cause of teh scars and acne you have on your face and trust me I’ve been there . Just sharing my experience no hate towards anyone ❤
You either need to use less tretinoin per application. You could use it less often; alternate from tretinoin one night and maybe adding slugging to help combat the dryness and peeling. There is also the sandwich method; moisturizer + tret + moisturizer to minimize dryness and prevent irritation. Your skin is purging. If it’s not irritated, as in red bumby itchy burning, just make sure you keep skin moisturized and take a break from wearing make up until you figure out how to manage the peeling skin. Good luck!
This used to happen with me. Just go very light with your makeup. I used to use concealer and lipgloss and that's it. Using a moisturizer sunscreen. Took me 5 months to get out of purging and trust me I often get compliments on my skin. I go no makeup now. But you really need vaseline at night and good moisturizer.
Just keep going - it’s fucking worth it! It’s been a few years since I last used it but I still get no pimples or hormonal acne no more. Tretinon will always have my heart ❤
I was using tret for a year and a half. It made my hyperpigmentation on my back worse than what it was before then. The lightly colored spots did fade but the ones that were already dark got worse and worse. I switched to an all natural herb soap a few months ago. Why did it clear most of my hyperpigmentation in less than a month, before tret could even do anything. 😂 That’s just my story. (The soap is called Terra Tory. However the one I used was their black pepper and cactus soap, no longer sold rn due to being seasonal. Rn I’m using her aloe soap). Tretinoin isn’t bad but it definitely isn’t for everyone and is way too overhyped for me.
Yup I have the same problem! :( I only use arazlo once a week because otherwise the peeling is too much. And if I have any events happening where I want my full glam makeup to look good, I stop using arazlo at least 3 days before the event...this has unfortunately meant skipping out on arazlo some weeks
this is so normal in the begining. don't feel afraid to skip a day or two if the peeling is severe and there is irritation. but i can promise that it will get better. also tip, try slugging during the day. its not a great look but it really is good to try and retain some moisture before applying the tretinoin at night.
I'm a Korean who is using Tretinoin. Tretinoin makes your face dry. So you have to apply a very small amount. Apply only about half the size of your cotton swab head about twice a week. When you apply it, avoid around your eyes and apply it very thinly so that it doesn't clump in one place. And acne has too much oil on your skin, so it's too dry for your skin to peel off. That's why it's dry and oily. Since you have oily skin, don't add any oil, just apply toner and moisturizing cream. Make sure to apply moisturizing cream that contains fatty acids, cholesterol, and ceramides. And because you have sensitive skin that breaks down easily, apply panthenol consistently. Panthenol is good with Tretinoin :)
my skin peeled the same way! until i started using Lucas papaw ointment after i apply my tretinion and moisturiser. Aquaphor would work too. also make sure you’re gently exfoliating your skin atleast once a week. innisfree’s wine peeling jelly softer works great, or just a plain old clay mask works too!
My skin texture was the same as yours, and that's how it looked like every time I put on make up. When I go back home, there were some new red sore bumps on my face and they were very painful. I changed my approach and I focus on the foods I eat. I also found out, that I might have a celiac disease. As per my research, celiac disease can cause skin inflammation like acnes. You may get it by eating flour-based foods, like breads, pasta, grains (oats, barley) or any food that contains gluten. I also lessen eating sweets, and I can say that my skin has gotten better, but occasionally still get some acnes, but not that big and red.
Have you tried toned up sunscreen from korean brands? That's the only thing that worked for me. There are still noticeable peeling but due to moisturizing benefits of their formula it helps softens those hanging skin to not look crusty. The tone-up effect kinda looks like light tint. I know it doesn't cover much but it does help even out the skin a bit.
Hi I have been using prescription Tretinoin for YEAR'S and Year's! This peeling will NEVER fully stop.... I'm sorry to say! Don't listen to the people who tell you that it will stop after a few months it's NOT true! BUT, the extent of the peeling will dramatically slow down over time, and I'm talking like a year! I now only have slight feeling and I do dermaplane in my face once a week or if I have something important coming up then I do it the night before! The best products for you to use while using this, is a stand-alone hyaluronic acid I know so many people say that's boring but with what you're using you're already using everything that is the most potent that there is on the market! So what you need to be using now you must keep your skin hydrated, hyaluronic acid, snail mucin, products with panthenol and glycerine all of those are things you want to use right now! And a very good moisturizer a very hydrating thick moisturizer for daytime and nighttime! play at night time make sure after you apply your prescription that you put on a very hydrating moisturizer and then wait about 30 minutes to an hour and slug your entire face with Vaseline please trust me! Also sunscreen everyday always everyday, and reapply, or your skin will turn on you, I promise! Korean sunscreens I have found have been the best option because they are not as drying or irritating as American sunscreens! Also if you want makeup that's not going to show the peeling and dry skin I'm going to strongly recommend a tinted oil foundation! Don't be afraid of it just because you have oily skin, because while you're using this prescription this is going to be your best friend for makeup I promise it will not show the peeling! Also do not use powder to set for makeup, not until your face has stopped peeling so much that you will always have peeling honey! But you will appreciate the benefit from using this you will look much younger than your peers and your skin tone will even out dramatically and you will be beautiful! But as I said the most important thing I can recommend to you is all you're using this you only want to use hydrating skin care, stay away from vitamin c or anything that is harsh or you will regret it! You can use a liquid exfoliator after you've been using your prescription for at least 6 months and when you use that liquid exfoliant you're only going to do it about once a week! Good luck on your journey ❤
I was on Arazlo and I had a horrible experience with it! It gave me chemical burns on my chin, and instead of my dermatologist adjusting the amount or anything he told me to just keep applying it everywhere else. It ended up burning me *again* in my T-zone. It was even worse, too. I was in tears while putting moisturizer on it was so bad. I had to spend months recovering my skin barrier. I’ve been terrified of retinol/tretinoin ever since:
If you don’t like how intense the peeling is I suggest not putting it on every night but every other night or every 3rd night but if you really want fast result just let your skin purge and let the skin breath it might be a while before you able to wear foundation again
Mine was just like this when I started. Trust me it gets so much better, everyday I get comments about how my skin has cleared up. And it’s only been a couple months since it was peeling.
Yeah the peeling part would be over fast but the purging is what it gets scary.... There's one thing the period of purging depends... Not everyone's last for 3 months... For some it's less for some it's long..... For me the purging was legit for 4 to 5 months.... But do not give it up.... Keep using it.. What makes the purging better for me was the using it alternative days and in between I used slugging with petroleum gel.... But now my skin is so much better than before.... So never give up on Tretinoin..... ( I was suffering from hormonal acne for 2 years and took so many treatments nothing worked) ... So Tretinoin is the IT for me ☺
I would start by getting a facial at reputable spa or salon and coming up with a skin care routine that works. Water based foundations work best for my post tretinoin super dry skin. Welda skin food is use it literally on my dry patches daily, ilia skin tint foundation is awesome also. But start by seeing an esthetician and getting a facial and they’ll help you!
You need lipid cream because when on tretinoin your skin loses lipids. My friend swears by LaRochePosay Lipicare. I used some unknown brand face cream with lipids. We both did great using that cream while on tretinoin. So go grab one and use it! Also remember that its not forever and that it will be worth it ❤
Acne is an external expression of an internal issue. Diet has a major impact, dairy sugar etc but I used higher dose vit b5 and Saw palmetto to clear my skin.
I like to use la roshe posay cicaplast as primer. Nars pot concealer over redness and beauty blender skin tint. The only way to prevent my skin from peeling and looking scary when i experienced that phase of tret
Use a gentle exfoliator then cleanse your face with your face wash then apply toner I like to use 100% witch hazel then apply moisturizer and sunscreen let that sit for about 5 mins then take a blotting paper and blot away the excess oils then continue with your makeup routine. I hope this helps I went through the same thing and my skin hurt really bad and I was sad until I found what works
That’s called retinization or retinoid dermatitis and it’s perfectly normal and to be expected as you start using tretinoin. This will subside as you become more familiar with tretinoin and use the same strength at a fixed frequency for weeks.
I’ve been on this cream for over a year this is normal You need to hyrdrate Cereve Heavy thick moisturizers but not too much is key Drink plenty of water Be gentle It’s part of the process It helped maintain my acne after accurate when I had brown spots left Don’t over use also Best of luck
Are you doing the sandwich method? Meaning moisturizer, 10-15 minutes, apply Tretinoin, let set, and apply moisturizer again? I have found this super helpful, and I don’t peel. Started off once a week and very gradually increased to twice a week. Then, after a few months, increased to 3x a week. If you’re experiencing this kind of irritation and peeling, I think you need to reduce the mint of times you’re using. Also, I’m sore you know…but apply no less than a pea size amount. I experienced purging or more acne at first. But not much peeling.
Don’t use a lot and don’t use everyday. If your skin is peeling that bad starting reducing the days. I started out once a week, then worked my way up to two days a week then three days a week and so on. I also mixed a tiny bit with moisturizer and put Vaseline around my mouth and eyes. It’s a journey to get adjusted for sure but worth it. Took months for me.
Use a pha bha chemical exfoliant once a week on one of the nighte that you aren't using the retin a....but hey it's a good thing that your peeling means new skin cell turnover! What percentage are you using?
I know Arazlo is supposed to be more fast acting than Tretinion, but using a salicylic acid cleanser and a BHA toner on alternating nights have helped me a lot with the lizard skin. I'll also sandwich my tret between moisturizers. I'll use a gel, tretinion, then a heavier cream before bed. Hopefully you can find something to help or just use less often and find a good middle ground.
I started out using a pea size, even maybe a bit smaller than a pea all over my face but not under my eyes or too close to my lips, every 3rd day. I was very sensitive to it still. I was using .05. Strength. I asked my doctor for the .025, and I can use that one every night now with no issues. The trick is, though, very small amount. I still sandwich with my moisturizer. I would rather be consistent with a lower dose then suffer.
Yes! I had to move to every other or every 3rd day at the beginning. It still works!
I have been using tretinoin since 15 day
Does tretinoin helps to fade pigmentation too ?
Plz reply
Use sunscreen and it goes away with continued use. That’s just acne scarring.
@@Kittens-v8gyes it helps give it at least 3-4 months
@@Kittens-v8gare you wearing sunscreen during the day? if you’re not that could be the reason why your pigmentation is worsening

I had to.avoid Makeup during the purge and dryness of tret but it was WELL WORTH IT!
It’s brutal isn’t it lol. I’ve gone through it 3 times now thinks to pregnancy and having to stop 😂
Same !!!
Super pigmented the denser the brush/more you pack it on too, but I’d use concealer under where needed also
this 100%!
Yes! I used to use L’Oréal True Match Pressed Powder and that was the best makeup look I could get during this phase. Hang in there!
YES! Powder makeup is the only thing that has worked for me.
Will try this!
Yup! My Bare Minerals loose matte works like a charm when set with setting spray. The flakes disappear after I spray the setting spray.
Seeing real skin texture online without filters is so refreshing! ❤
It is nice to see a normal woman who doesn’t look like a freakin cartoon
Actually skin is not supposed to have texture. It’s mainly clogged pores. I only have texture around nose, chin, forehead but not on my cheeks and jawline. I believe if my skin can be that tight & smooth where you can’t see pores, then that means that my skin in texture areas can be smooth as well. Also look into the gut brain connection. Your skin purges toxins through pores and can cause acne and oily skin.
Rightttt
Stick with this. It gets so much better. Maybe a gentle exfoliator would help?
Do you have a gentle exfoliator recommendation
@@bd1043 use chemical not physical. Like The Ordinary peeling solution or a Korean one called Lemon Sparkling Peeling Gel.
(As an experienced acne related prescription retinoid user) I do not recommend using an exfoliator while on prescription retinoids. Exfoliation will ruin your barrier even more and will lead to more spots caused by irritation. It’s much more useful to focus on hydration and replenishing the barrier with for example ceramides :)
nooo. it will make it worse. you have to keep it simple, no other actives especially exfoliants. let it do its job
I think an enzyme powder wash is ideal as it works for surface level dead skin and doesn't go deep which could cause irritation.
😂👏🏻
Low and slow is importaint! Reduce to using just 1-2 nights per week, then after 2-3 weeks, try to increase one more night per week. It may take you 2-3 months to work your to nightly use. Moisturize before applying, let dry completely, then apply a SMALL pea sized amount by dotting it on each cheek and your forehead - rub in, let dry completely and then finish with a second layer of moisturizer. That should help minimize the dryness and peeling.
This makes me feel so relieved. It's good to finally understand why my base always looked SO crusty! Thanks Arazlo lol
Edit: if the peeling continues, consider going down to a lower strength until your skin acclimates, OR use every other night & slowly build up to nightly. (After years of the same strength, I actually had to drop down a few months ago. My skin started turning red/pink easily & flaking on the sides of my chin. I do notice that its not quite as effective, but the lack of flaking & redness is worth it.)
This is normal, a very hydrating cream before the makeup might help. Tretinoin makes your skin very dry but it’ll pay off ❤️
Yes! Been using for acne for nearly a decade, I often mix it with equal parts moisturizer so it’s easier on my skin or skip a night if I’m feeling sensitive ❤
It will get better girlll!! I know the pain its so frustrating 😭💖💖💖 you're not alone!!
YOU GOT THIS GIRL AND LOOK GREAT 🎉
Vaseline brand moisturizer for extremely dry skin is what I use for my severely sensitive, acne prone skin. It’s saved me!
@@heathertimmons6104And it doesn’t cause more acne?
In the peel phase of Tretinoin, I really didn’t wear much makeup since I had the same issue. It was worth it in the end.
Your skin Is looking SO much better!!

And I’ve only used “cheap” brands like the ordinary, Cosyx, the only list, Nivea , makeup revolution and Vaseline
So just go with the peel, it’s a natural part of the process .
How many months U peeled please??
Thank you for this. It feels good to know you're not the only one.❤
Use a ceramide cream. Truly that's the only thing that stops the peeling
This is honestly why i was shocked to see your makeup look so good. Even without retinoids, all makeup cakes up on my scabby acne, making it more noticeable than if i just wear no makeup.
Girl I highly recommend either going down in potency or using WAY less of the product and less often (like 2-3x a week)
If you aren’t doing a deep cleanse with oil cleanser already give it a try! It makes such a difference for me
I use tretinoin.
Reducing the frequency of tretinoid and exfoliating more often will help
Don’t give up! It gets better! Try applying tretinoin every other day or every two days to cut back irritation until you can work up to every day. Good luck!
That’s okay. Please keep using it as long as it says to do to give the results wanted. I would like to see the journey.
Your skin is gonna be flawless one day, I just know it. But acne or no acne, you are so beautiful!
Hang in there!! You will have the most amazing skin ✨️
Yes EXTREMELY common! Stick through with retinol!
my skin peeled the same way! until i started using Lucas papaw ointment after i apply my tretinion and moisturiser.
Try mineral powder, its dry and sticks to primer. And covers acne spots well.
Maybe reduce the amount of. Curology has helped me so much! As well as snail mucin toner.
Acne drying out is a win ! Hang in there ❤
1% pure retinol products are manageable and sustainable with very visible results for long time. Not everyone needs prescription medications!!!
I’ve been on this cream for over a year this is normal
You need to hyrdrate
Cereve
Heavy thick moisturizers but not too much is key
Drink plenty of water
Be gentle
It’s part of the process
It helped maintain my acne after accurate when I had brown spots left
Don’t over use also
Best of luck
Are you only using it at night and washing it off in the mornings?
