Sitting in a room with Warren Haynes jamming, you guys just won the golden ticket! I've been lucky enough to meet him once. Such a nice unassuming person. And not forgetting a phenomenal guitarist.
Warren is the man!!! Always a pleasure seeing a interview with him. Had the honor of meeting him a few times over the last 20 years, always the same guy super humble and pleasant to talk to. Thanks guy for having Warren on it was a treat for us all and I know for you two .
I really enjoy every chat with Warren. He is a true gentleman, completely transparent, and seems to love talking about playing the guitar with everyone he meets. Cheers all!!!
OH. MY. GOD. Warren is legit one of my fave all-rounders in terms of guitar and vocals. What an absolute BEAST of a musician. Thank you soooooo much for this.
I met Warren Haynes once nearly 25yrs ago and he still stands out as one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in the music business. Congrats to Mick and Dan for getting such an amazing guest!
Putting aside the wonder that is Warren Haynes and the stunning playing - it is amazing to see you two fellas living the dream. Seeing the pure joy on your faces while these legends appear on your show is one of the many things that make your show so special. Cheers Dan and Mick!!
Five minutes in and I already know this is going to be one of those episodes that end up taking me about 3 hours to finish, while I listen intently then play along a bit, get lost, rewind and come back around again. That is to say: my favourite kind of TPS episode ☺
Just during Warren’s opening music alone I’m thinking: this is probably the most dynamic guitar playing I ever heared on this channel! And it looks effortless...
Mick and Dan are living their best lives.... up close and personal with guys like warren and Robben. Pedals and amps are amazing, BUT hearing legendary sounds from the original creators is something else. Micks face says it all here during the playing 😂
@@doubled5383 How about Mike Stern? Ever see John Bohlinger literally sit at the knee of Mike Stern for a Premier Guitar Rig Rundown? The best Rig Rundown ever because Mike Stern is a monster player, has a million stories, and is one of the most kind-hearted and genuinely funny musicians to ever strap on a Tele and let it rip. Interviewing Warren Haynes, Robben Ford, Adam Levy and, finally, Mike Stern in the same year would be the guitar coup of the century!
Warren is one of the very few full package artists i can think of: he's absolutely top notch in the areas that in my book constitute a top class act. Top notch guitarist (as far as playing, improvising, comping and tone) top notch singer (powerful, soulful, gritty and remarkably reliable voice) and top notch songwriter (I particularly like his ballads and his acoustic work, where he showcases his strong lyrical and musical sensitivity). I think he's particularly underrated in the latter. He's one of my favorite songwriters ever, the incredible singing and playing almost feel like an added bonus. Maybe his songwriting is overshadowed by his jamming abilities, also considering how strongly tied he is to the American jam band scene, but the songs themselves are so strong in their own right
Hats off to Dan and Mick-and thanks to Warren-for such an amazing show. Warren embodies the heart, mind and soul of blues guitar music. He truly did make Dan’s Les Paul sing. A standout TPS episode.
Warren is a very important player to me. I started seeing the allman brothers in the late 90’s and have been following him since. It was like, wow, he’s not an original member, but they found him in the wild. That this young guy was able to lift this classic band was amazing.
Uncle Warren is the man! First saw him with the ABB on 8/26/90. First GM show was in ‘95. Have seen a ton of other shows including Xmas Jam, Phil & Friends, and a couple WHB shows. Going to see WHB again tomorrow. Met him several times. Hardest working, nicest guy in the business. He deserves every accolade he gets. There’s none better.
Warren is so kind and talented. Years ago, he made my oldest son's year. We were standing right at the stage and Warren bent down and handed him a pick. Eddy was speechless. Great memory.
For my money… Warren Haynes might be the all around best guitarist/vocalist/musician around. Just the way his voice, both guitar and vocal, speak to me is unmatched.
Geez, man, what a great dude Warren is. None of that “precious” posture some players have, no gratuitous showing off and just a down to earth conversation. I enjoyed every second and learned so much.
Hometown hero…lucky enough to be able to hear him play at home for Christmas Jam every year . Class personified, musically and professionally ,a genuinely great guy. His generosity is unmatched in Asheville. No style of music the man cannot play. Big Love for Uncle Warren !!! Kudos !!
I met him once after an Allman Brothers show early on in his career with them in Birmingham, AL and he was humble and gracious. Flew on the same plane with him between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham a couple of times as well but gave him his space. I especially like what he did with the Warren Haynes Band (Man in Motion) but the Mule catalog is incredible. I was really glad to see him on TPS! Great job!
I was incredibly lucky to see him in the concert in Madrid. It had been years since I heard something so GLORIOUS, and this video is amazing. Congratulations!
This is a killer episode, great to hear Warren talk about his musical journey, which we all love so much❤ great job guys! Highly entertaining heartwarming and insightful ❤
The way Warren is able to make his sound and feel connect to the listener is truly amazing! It is done by him completely effortlessly and is something for every player to strive for. Truly enjoyed this show!
Great Episode!!!! One of my all time favorites… Warren is that player that is so comfortable in his own skin, and has such a unique voice (vocal-wise as well as guitar). Few players have such command over dynamics and personal tone. Everyone can learn a thing or three, picking up on some Warren-isms. From the most blazing grooves to his most delicate lines. He just has it all!!
There should be an after the interview Dan and Mick reaction video. The guest leaves you guys come back and geek out about what you heard, what was learned, sounds etc. Even if it's just a few minutes... just some giddy fandom after the fact.
Great interview. I saw them in ‘89 at the Beacon. They were incredible. I saw dozens of ABB shows throughout the 90s, mostly at the Beacon, and they were “on” almost every night. Warren was great. When Derek Trucks joined it added another dimension with the incredible slide.
I clicked SO fast. I've seen Mule several times and it has always been incredible. Their Dark Side of the Mule show at Red Rocks last year was one of the best shows ive seen.
This was great, thanks guys! And - To Warren’s Little Feat comment - Absolutely yes!! Got to see them a couple times in the 70s and still talk about how all the tempos were slower, more dug in, even heavier than the record versions, sure made a lasting impression.
Him playing “Cortez the Killer” with Dave Matthews at the Central Park concert is one of the most amazing guitar performances I’ve ever heard in my life. The hairs on my arms are standing up just talking about it.
When you see how many bands he played with you begin to realize his genius, there minds are like no other, I followed him for the last 10 years love hearing him play, thanks for posting
I first saw Warren on Austin city limits playing with the ABB when I was probably about eight years old. I’ve been guitar obsessed since I was about six so seeing him play at such a young age really blew my mind. Fast-forward to when I was in high school and I watched the video of the Dave Matthews Band live in Central Park, and I became obsessed with the way Warren played on “Cortez the killer “. Such emotion in that performance. Later on a few years ago, I had a chance to open for Dave and the band, and it was a special moment to say the least. As of the last few months, I’ve been getting into the LP thing, being mainly a Strat or telecaster guy for most of my life so far and it’s been a great learning experience, and one that I’ve enjoyed immensely. Thinking back to the first time I saw Warren play on Austin city limits. I can say that he was a major inspiration in the way I am approaching the single cut thing. This episode is incredible. Warren is not only a master singer, guitarist and songwriter, but a true genius when it comes to tone and volume control manipulation. So much room to explore all of this on an LP or 335.
That was fantastic. I love how awestruck and respectful they are with Warren in the room. Also how down-to-earth and gracious Warren is and how he answers every question thoroughly and insightfully. That was truly wonderful. The whole thing warms my heart and makes me smile.
What an interview with Warren! You guys did an excellent job with Warren Haynes. He is so interesting to listen to in an interview. But, go see him play Live. I've been a fan for the last 30 yrs. He's FRIGGIN Good! What a guitar picker! Thanks.
Warren Haynes has been one of my favourites for a long time. A highlight was seeing him play with his band Gov't Mule, they did an awesome rendition of War Pigs, Warren was playing through a Soldano, what a tone!!!
We are so lucky in this day and age to be able to kind of sit down in a room with a real master and just enjoy the music they create and have their thoughts behind it, and have a bunch of laughs along the way too. Not taken for granted at all! Dan and Mick, you did great, it's like you are "us" sitting in the room with him. And to Warren, holy shit man, every note just feels like complete joy and passion. Thank you so much for sharing. 🙏 You made my day or week or whatever. Really special. Music is such a gift to us. Bless all your hearts!
Yep, another hour and a bit of absolute gold. Warren is so incredible, not just an amazing guitar player, great singer or great writer, but a real all round incredible MUSICIAN. Can do everything, truly special and a huge influence for me
Warren's song "Coal tattoo" has my favourite guitar tone ever, best example of "Violin tone" on guitar that I can think of. Got my guitar and slide at the ready for this one, legends all 3 of you!

The joy in this episode was palpable... and it had a lot to do with how personable you all were with each other. Favorite moment: Let's see what it sounds like, slide through that envelope filter. Pure, enthusiastic, childlike experimentation. Man, we need to remember that. He used tools like a pro to be ready to be inspired. Thank you gentlemen... needed this.
What a dude. Generous with how/why wisdom, general enough that it’s relevant for us mere mortals, deep enough to extend our knowledge a little further. Everything he said was worth listening to. Warren really understood the assignment. Nice show, blokes.
I don’t even know where to start cause this is so great, Warren truly is guitar royalty. I think I could watch another 10 hours of you guys all talking, I know I’ll be coming back to refer to this a good few times. Have a great weekend and thanks for putting it all together guys!
This was the most informative Pedal Show episode yet. Warren Haynes is a masterclass of information and technique. From simple things like remembering to back off on the guitar volume to standard tuning slide playing, it was an inspiration to watch.
Just wonderful! In such a different way to the Steve Rothery Episode, tonally, but philosophically similar - the song is king, and making your guitar sound like a human voice is the aim! Love it!!
Thank u dan and mick! Wow . Just absolutely wow ! U guys know how much of an honor it is to have Warren sitting , playing and explaining what he is doing . This episode is top shelf and u guys deserve it! Absolutely fantastic! Bravo 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 THANK YOU !
Rotosphere for the win! Seriously, Warren Haynes is quickly becoming one of my favorite guitarists because he so graciously shares everything about his gear, his settings, his band and life experiences, all the while as a gentleman.
What a terrific looking guy Warren is, the archetypal guitar hero for sure. Could listen to him all night long, he's the real deal. One of my favourite players ever.
Just saw Warren in Kansas City on July 18th! One of the many times I have seen him and he never disappoints. Simply an inspiration for all musicians and guitar players. What a talent!!
The tone Warren gets has always been amazing and fantastic player and singer. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen him play live with ABB and Gov’t Mule. The man works hard but in a fun way. Not many musicians were able to tour from two different bands back n forth. Warren is in my opinion one of the best guitarists that you know it’s him on the very first note. Great interview guys.
one of my absolute heros, ive seen this man with the allmans a bunch of times, govt mule a bunch of times, phil lesh and friends and the dead...thank you that pedal show for having warren haynes on!
Fantastic episode! I loved to see Warren's "sound-nerd" side in action. You guys are great at creating a relaxed, playful environment where legends such as Warren feel comfortable to experiment stuff live, with authentic fun and passion. Love your channel more and more every day, congrats! I saw Warren a couple of months ago in Zürich in a small venue playing into what I think it was the Magnatone amp he mentioned. I was blown away by his tone, it was incredible! I was close enough to the stage to hear the direct sound from his amp too, which I believe added to the magic :) Warren's voice was so soulful, and the whole band was fantastic: incredible sound and pocket, with a laid-back, warm feel and a lot of dynamics. Thanks Warren and Warren's band for the amazing experience!
For years I try to educate people about the genius that Mr. Warren Haynes is. To me its incredible that people who love this kind of music have never heard of his story and the Gov’t Mule. For me best rock band sound ever and best work and the cooperation in band is displayed in Thorazine Shuffle. My favorite, though is My separate reality. When people ask me about my favorite guitar players I can’t wait to introduce them to that. In his playing there is just what needs to be there without overdoing it to show off how many things you can jam into the minute of playing. Every note is given a meaning. For me that’s perfection.
How awesome was this TPS episode, so enjoyable, Warren was amazing, he's an incredible singer, guitarist and songwriter, his solo albums and Govt Mule records are fantastic 👍🎸😃
As TPS has grown significantly over the past couple of years, bigger and bigger guests have been on, and the way Mick and Dan react and seems excited watching the these artists play is just fun to watch. Cheers Brothers!!! Mick and Dan!
Crazy awesome episode guys. I'm sure you know this, but you've really been on a roll- esp. the past couple years- getting in amazing guests- Ford, Marr, now Warren Haynes- and so many others. What an amazing treat for all of us to not just see an interview but have this sort of"under the hood" look into great players approach to guitars, amps, pedals, and playing! Thanks so much!!!

Heavy hitting Friday!!! Warren is one of the true greats!! An interview I've really been looking forward to for a little while now - Thanks!!
Rotosphere for the win! Seriously, Warren Haynes is quickly becoming one of my favorite guitarists because he so graciously shares everything about his gear, his settings, his band and life experiences, all the while as a gentleman.
If only I could Like this 100x ;) Thanks for deep dive with him!
No way, had to double take this title, can't wait to watch!!
So great to see you two meeting and befriending these artists! Cheers
What a terrific looking guy Warren is, the archetypal guitar hero for sure. Could listen to him all night long, he's the real deal. One of my favourite players ever.
I love Warren and everything he does, he is such an inspiration for me as a guitar player. Thank you for inviting him 🥰
WARREN!!!!!! Hell yeah guys! Warren is an idol here in the states, so glad he paid you a visit 😀
A Masterclass from both sides …. this is truly priceless…Thankful
Warren is the BEST. So cool that he is doing an episode with TPS. Thanks, guys.
Awesome! One step closer to getting Derek Trucks on. Admittedly, to tell us he doesn't use pedals 😅
A whole episode on The super reverb and SG with him would be incredible enough
I think he actually has been using a Klon for awhile, could be wrong though
Nobody uses. Pedals . “”” I really plug straight in amp. It’s the best “ yeah. My tech. Has that giant rack he plays with in corner “
one of my absolute heros, ive seen this man with the allmans a bunch of times, govt mule a bunch of times, phil lesh and friends and the dead...thank you that pedal show for having warren haynes on!
What a treat. One of my favorite players. Thank you.
Just an incredible show guys !
YES!!!!!!! You guys are THE BEST!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Man, it’s in the hands… Warren is an absolute monster!
The joy on your faces was priceless thanks for letting us in.👍
All of a sudden.. saw Warren Haynes on TPS .. clicked so fast 🚀🚀🚀
What a beast, you guys are killing it. Been off the Tube for a while and what a welcome back!
I have never hung onto every word of an interview quite like that. What a legend and a gentleman. ❤
Three of my favorite people in the guitar universe. Informative... Inspirational... Stellar!!
How awesome was this TPS episode, so enjoyable, Warren was amazing, he's an incredible singer, guitarist and songwriter, his solo albums and Govt Mule records are fantastic 👍🎸😃
thanks for this one! just awesome. been a big fan for decades, and this was a great time. cheers.
