I haven't finished this video yet, but I'm just over an hour in and I'm loving it. I've never felt like a "real" guitar player, even though I played in front of live crowds for nigh on 30 years because I played mostly in churches and never got paid. It was truly a labor of love. Hearing you guys just talk to each other brings back so many memories and has finally convinced me of something. Playing Gospel songs for free didn't make it any easier or less real. It just meant I had to work that much harder on my day job! 😅
Thank you guys for that. That's the most important takeaway for me in this excellent video. 👏

This interview is FANTASTIC because it evolves from an ordinary "celebrity musician " type run of the mill interview into a true GUITAR LESSON" and that adds order of magnitude to the every metric of value I can think of,..LoL
Joe is incredibly well studied in , not only the history of vintage instruments, but the techniques, styles and habits of the artists and personalities of seemingly every generation of blues players from the delta to modern times. I eman just in passing he mentions Delta blues players like BBKing, ,.Chicago blues, UK blue-eyed blues players ( Clapton , & Beck ) , SRV and his "Texas Style among many others.
The mans a living , walking encyclopedia of the genre.

John is around because the industry wanted him. Joe was rejected by the industry and has just been a lingering wart for, as he claims, “the past 25 years” only to finally find memeification
In the last few years. Gotta respect that, despite how much (both) their music sucks.

I saw Joe Bonamassa last knight in Delaware (Freeman Arts Pavilion). I knew he was a great guitarist, but dayum! I didn't know it was legal doing some of those things he does with a guitar! Every note is played as if it was critical to the melody because it was even if it was cat step quiet. His phrasing is almost unheard of. He takes the music places; soft, loud, pointed, rounded. The phrase moves, it's going somewhere. It was amazing!

I always enjoy listening to Joe talk about the business of music as well as his guitar and amplifier collection. The one thing I've learned is that whether Gibson, or any other manufacturer, is that they can build a vintage original spec guitar and is will closely emulate the sound of the vintage guitar. Ok, it may not have been the guitar played by Eric Clapton on the Beano album (or others on their works). But, these guitars are exact copies of those guitars and when matched with the right amp get really close to the sounds of those artists of the '50's, '60's, '70's and '80's. So, thank you Shifty for interviewing Joe and thank you Joe for sharing your amazing skill and taking the time out of your schedule to be the ambassador of the blues as well as vintage musical instruments that you are. You are the best!!

Thank you Chris. The coolest thing I learned from this interview with Joe Bonamassa was that he picks every note minus a few pull offs, I mean, but he just doesn’t use Legato. I had no idea. I’ve always admired his note choices and I think you got into that in the interview, but picking every note really reinforces that idea of note selection. Great interview. Thank you❗️

Joe is just the kinda guy you wish you could hang out with. He is totally down to earth and cool. If I had his number, I would invite him to Dave's Guitar shop in La Crosse and we could hang out all day in his museum upstairs.
