Lee is always apologizing in these videos for how they got off topic reminiscing.. but I could watch Lee and Rob going on about their old gear and gigs alllllllll day!
I agree. I don't even have a need for the second channel on a regular basis, though I am subscribed. Lee, the team, and the guests are always so knowledgeable and helpful.
Lee, for the love of Crom, stop apologizing for reminiscing. That’s one of the things we love about your channel. I could watch a 6 hour video of you guys talking about your lives in guitar. Never lose your enthusiasm for the art. It’s infectious. 🎉
This channel makes me feel like I'm with family, just being relaxed and enjoying the music and convo. Thank you both, and everyone that contributed to make these possible. 100 👍
honestly the telling of stories is some of the bests parts of you and rob together. I wish you could do more videos together centered around just jamming and telling tales of old.
Only halfway through so far, and it’s already an absolute pleasure to watch this. These videos have been part of my life for so many years and this kind of content is such a joy. Total props to these two lovely fellas - entertainers and talents, both.

I have a moderate amp collection and some digital stuff and I've only gotten to use the Revv G stuff digitally. I'd love to get one irl someday! Cheers mate!

You guys take the cake for a guitar channel, absolutely wonderful content. I have been on a 3 week binge watching your videos, wondering why i have never seen your stuff before, Andertons needs to open in US.
This was one of the most enjoable Andertons videos I remember seeing in a long time. Made me nostalgic about the old bandana-wearing Rob and blue Andertons t-shirt wearing Lee videos.
Would love to see more videos with anecdotes from the past! Not only entertaining but probably some good lessons in there for guys just starting to gig. Would also love to see you guys choose a first gigging rig if your teenage self time travelled to now!
Great video. And I love we are back at variety of presenters. With Pete, John, Ozz and now Chappers also. Very good, very goo. Keep it up. Great work Lee and The Team ❤
How great to see how Captain loosens up and give some insight in him. I always thougt he was a great guy, - and he proves it here. And he is a better guitar player then he thinks.
YES, bring back a new range of British built Valvestates ! Apart from the occasional scratchy pot, my 1993 first version model 8040 1x12 combo is still going strong.
In 1977 my rig was a 1964 AC30 Top Boost and a 1977 hardtail Strat, bought new. I was 17 years old. What a great time it was. Still playing now, every week.
Lee my man you are too modest - that solo you did at the end was amazing and you cut yourself off! Also the pun about you being a stripper in a music club was genius.
15:58! Lee! That's amazing! Friends of mine had a cover band here about 25 years ago that played all over the place called...Big Dictator and the Well Hungarians!
Tremendous video, brings back so many memories of my first terrible band, so much fun, so little talent mostly, but jeaus the commitment we all had - ive never had since!
Love it! So many memories of similar equipment and early gig experiences of same era . It’s worth remembering that with no internet the only knowledge you had of gear etc was from Guitarist magazine and what your local music store actually stocked. #bringbackvalvestate.
My first gigging rig was a Peavey Studio 110 red stripe and an Epiphone Les Paul- no pedals. And the worst gig we ever played- turned out to be the best. Our drummer booked us without saying a word to any of us, we had only been together for about 6 weeks- we didn't have enough material worked out to do a show- not even close. That said, we felt we couldn't back out- we were booked, so we play- that's how it works. But- we decided not to charge the guy who was throwing the party- and to tell the crowd that we just got together and basically were just going to have an open practice session and let them listen. There was between 150 and 200 ppl there- and it became a really fun, intimate venue where the ppl got to interact with us, watch us make mistakes, watch us work stuff out- and they loved it. They would ask for a song, it would take us 2-3 tries to get it right, but then we would play it for them- and they ate it up. We let ppl get up and sing- they loved that as well. It turned out to be the most fun I have ever had at any show- and I met my wife that night. X wife now, but that's my fault really- and a much sadder, longer story I don't want to get into. We were together for 10 yrs though so- that night had a huge influence on the rest of my life.
Sounds like the shows I do now 😂 Kelly’s Irish pub Mudgee had a guy from the crowd want to sing brown eyed girl, so we let him. Totally winged it and it actually went off.
Hugh Janus reminds me of the time in the late 90's when my best friend and i were hanging out at the airport watching the jets take off ( you used to be able to do those kind of things) and we got the idea to prank the baggage claim desk by speaking with a middle eastern accent, saying we couldnt find our uncle and asking them to page Meidikus Flauping over the intercom. When we heard "my dick is flopping, please report to baggage claim" we were rolling on the floor laughing. 😂
I’m glad to hear that we all did the same things. Like smelling the gear at a shop. Hahaha. The smell of a new Marshall cabinet was just the best thing ever. I still go into shops and give them a sniff. Hahaha. Sadly the owner of the shop I used to go to recently passed away.
Great video! My 1st rig in 1980 was a 77 LPC into a ...wait for it... Peavy Backstage Plus! LOL. Well it was what I could afford at the time. I got lucky on the LPC and picked it up used for a song :). Still have it!
Mine was an Epiphone Les Paul Jr through a Crate Blue Voodoo with a Dunlap distortion pedal! I loved it and made great memories playing at these coffee shops that had rock bands in the early 2000s
Morning gents! Great video. My first rig was a Jackson 7-string X series, Yamaha THR 10X, and a diavolo overdrive. That kit pretty much said I was new and ran into a good salesman lol
My band played a gig at Wombwell Working Men's club near Barnsley in 1990 on the day of the England V Germany world cup semi final which was being shown in the other room! You can guess how many people were watching us!
Used to have guitar lessons out the back of Stag Music in the tiny porta cabin things. Happy days. Bought my first guitar an Antoria Telstar from the rack in the shop. Can't remember much about it but I loved it.
My first gigging rig was a 2001 black gibson studio les paul and a fender Princeton no pedals, all clean. I played with a band that played ska, punk and reggae. I learned so much from this setup. I added a blues breaker and swapped out my studio for a 50s standard and a Mexican strat.
Great video, really enjoyed the stories. My first proper rig was pretty cool - at Uni in Cardiff I managed to find a Marshall Jubilee 2555 and 1973 Marshall 4x12 in the back room of Broadway Music. Paid £450 for both! Thank you student loan!
I went to school with Rich and Geoff and saw their band a few times, Geoff's career was cut short by a tragic accident. I can confirm he was an incredibly sweet guy R.I.P.
My first rig (mid-'80s) was a bass...a Japanese-made Hondo P-bass with a Peavy practice amp. My first guitar rig (late '80s) was a used Ibanez Roadstar II, a Marshall practice amp, and a Boss DS-1 pedal.
Martyn Booth is from Sudbury inn Suffolk. I have been a customer of his since 1987 and am now the proud owner of one of a Martyn Booth Classic. The MSGs are very collectible now.
I have that Marshall 9004 rack preamp sitting in a rack across the room from me right now. Actually, I have a refrigerator-sized rack full of all those now-vintage preamps….ADA’s, Rocktrons, Marshalls, Haflers, Digitechs, Tube Works, ARTs, etc. Still love plugging into them!
My actual first rig was a 78 Strat, DS1, BF2 flanger and an HH IC100. Only now do I realise how good the HH was, I was in good company. My first rack had the 9004 pre amp, a Hafler pre amp, a home made relay switching system and powered speaker. I also rack mounted a CE-3 and had 4 channels of rhythm / lead with optional chorus on the rhythm. The 9004 headphone out was a recording out too and sounded great for a quick demo.
A friend's band had won a battle of the bands at a local Frankston pub. Part of the prize was four Sunday afternoon gigs in the main bar. I noticed while they were setting up, the patronage was a dozen old fellas quietly sitting around with a beer. The guys got on stage, introduced themselves and tore through Born To Be Wild. When the song finished some old bloke yelled "Fair enough fellas, we're trying to watch the golf"
I still have my Marshall 9004 pre-amp, along with the Yamaha FX500 multi-effect half rack unit. Bought from Carlsbro music in Sheffield when i was at Uni avoiding studying. Absolutely top gear for the day!
My first gig rig was a 97 Les Paul Special and a Marshall AVT 275. I still have the guitar in my collection, but the amp got sold in the late 00's to fund the purchase of kayaking equipment.
My first guitar was something I deeply regret parting with. It felt necessary at the time. It was a Japanese made Les Paul copy. Branded as Northern II. Natural finish, maple neck with maple leaf fret markers. I loved that guitar and have so many memories of it. I've tried really hard to find it or a similar one ment times over the years. And I'll buy one if I ever find it!!
The Deluxe 85 was my first amp too (not counting my little Peavey practice amp)! I still have it, and often use it for my clean sounds in the studio. Easily my favourite solid state amp! Also, the overdrive side is actually pretty decent so long as you don't use the "boost" - that definitely gets that fizz that you remember...
Back in the late 80s, I had a Hafler rack mounted guitar preamp - remember them? Wish I still had it. Used it in conjunction with a JCM800 half stack. Awesome!
Still have both my first proper guitar and amp - Epiphone Crestwood II (1985) and a Roland JC-77 (also from 1985). The Epiphone hangs on the wall next to my desk. JC is my wet amp in a wet/dry rig. My first guitar that I started lessons on in 1981 or so was a 3/4 sized Guild hollow body and some little amp. Both lost to history. I gave it up for 3 or 4 years then started up again. Parents got me the Epiphone and Roland.
My first gigged rig 2010 Epiphone SG Special (sticker bombed with punk band stickers) Peavey Windsor 100 watt tube head and matching cabinet Used the boost switch for solos and also had an Ibanez tube screamer ts9dx to push the amp harder Still have the guitar and it still sounds and plays great!
My rig for the one and only gig I've played I had an Epiphone Les Paul Studio, and an E Series MIJ Squier Stratocaster which I found in a pawn shop. My amp was a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18 head which I sat on top of a Blackstar 2×12 cab, and then my very affordable pedal board.
My first gig was in the back room of a pub, about 12 people in the audience. I didn’t have a proper amp at the time, I used a small hifi amplifier into a pa speaker column and we jammed around a handful of Hendrix songs until that little hifi amp blew up.
I wish I have my first rig. Fender 1966 Duo Sonic II with a Dan Armstrong Blue Clipper (box plugged into the guitar) and a Peavey (not sure the model but it had a 12" speaker and was solid state...and LOUD). I loved it and miss every bit of that rig.
I had a JCM900 50w head and 4x12 back in the mid 90s, then I bought a 1x12 Boogie DC3 combo and it blew the Marshall away...I've had the Boogie over 25 years and it's still better and more versatile than most amps!
Best duo ever. The chemistry is bonkers. I do love pete aswell but totaly different vibe.
That’s why we’re here!
Right? Thinking about even making a reply video!! Could be a cool "pass it around, make a reply" kind of thing and see everyone else's setups!!
Seconded.
Lee, for the love of Crom, stop apologizing for reminiscing. That’s one of the things we love about your channel. I could watch a 6 hour video of you guys talking about your lives in guitar. Never lose your enthusiasm for the art. It’s infectious. 🎉
Lee is in great shape for 52. Looks like he's in his late 30s - early forties.
That's because he quit playing in dives..no cigs or booze. LOL
This channel makes me feel like I'm with family, just being relaxed and enjoying the music and convo. Thank you both, and everyone that contributed to make these possible. 100 👍
More stories, make these longer. This is one of the best Chappers/Captain videos! Please make more of these!
Totally agree. Unexpectedly good this one.
Came here to say this. These sort of videos are awesome !
Honestly one of the best Andertons videos. Like being down the pub with two mates.
Mad respect to Rob for selling his JEM to save his cat's life. Way beyond cool.
Yeah he's a real.... jem
Well said. He is a Jem of a guy.
I won't say what I would have done to the cat..LOL
Stupid.

that was definitely one of the most entertaining chats you guys ever had! Pretty fun to listen to these stories from decades ago.
Oh man, that Ibanez story is brutal
Possibly my favourite Andertons video gents...I loved those stories. RIP Geoff Wilderbeast. ❤❤
You two just chatting has been the most interesting video you’ve guys done for months… shoulda kept going!

Very glad to see the 2 of you back together! Definitely missed this show the last few years.
We're watching these videos to hear you reminisce!!! The stories are great!
Lee is 3 years older than Rob, but looks 5 years younger. Guess which one had a run as a working musician...
Ha ha Ha....
This is one of the best videos on this channel
Great video. And I love we are back at variety of presenters. With Pete, John, Ozz and now Chappers also.

How great to see how Captain loosens up and give some insight in him. I always thougt he was a great guy, - and he proves it here. And he is a better guitar player then he thinks.
I could have watched hours of that reminiscing. Lovely stuff, trips down memory lane, the odd riff thrown in. ❤
YES, bring back a new range of British built Valvestates ! Apart from the occasional scratchy pot, my 1993 first version model 8040 1x12 combo is still going strong.

I'm still playing some great gigs in Trowbridge! Come back this way and see us Chappers haha
And don't forget that Vai basically got Ibanez to make a 7-string, which spawned a whole branch of bands and music throughout the next decades.

Peavey Windsor 100 watt tube head and matching cabinet
Used the boost switch for solos and also had an Ibanez tube screamer ts9dx to push the amp harder
Still have the guitar and it still sounds and plays great!
My rig for the one and only gig I've played
I had an Epiphone Les Paul Studio, and an E Series MIJ Squier Stratocaster which I found in a pawn shop. My amp was a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18 head which I sat on top of a Blackstar 2×12 cab, and then my very affordable pedal board.
You guy;s are something else!!!!!!!!!!
After all these years it is only now i'm classed as gigging. I use a Ibanez GB and a Roland JC40
Lee and Rob all day. More please.
Watched this just going ‘yup.’ So much cross over! Amazing.
