The leeroy Jenkins reference made me laugh so hard before it was even explained😂😂
Hahaha, wanted to come here to say this. Beat me to it. What a great reference IMO.
Leeroy was 15 years ago wow hahahah😂😂😂
I'm waiting for this right here 😂
Leeeeeeeroyyyyyyyyyy Jenkinsssssssss
I went back and rewatched the clip of him getting everyone in his raid killed.
Rob please read! Quite a few guys in the drift scene have tried those tie rod adapters to solve the same issues. Many have had failure due to it. I’d highly advice against it for safety especially in a half mile + car….
I came here looking for this comment. Also was hoping he might reverse engineer it with stronger metals.
Bump
Bump
Hopefully he gets to this 🤞👍
I copied the OP comment and tagged him on twitter
Grannas Racing: **Builds one of the strongest manual transmissions you can buy**
Rob Dahm: *"I took that personally and blew it up"* 😂
eEven more amazing: They are using Isaiah's Flesh Light to hold open the hood of the 4 rotor @ 3:19
@@wbass243 This comment shouldn't be hidden in the replies 🤣🤣
Rob, the HANS device straps need to be tightened more. You should only have about 3° of movement. With the way they are now it can still cause neck injury.
Very good Information.
I got the Leroy joke immediately man. No worries. For the horde!!
1 HOUR OF DAHM!?! MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!
2 min in and already a lot of comments, I aint the first on this one
Who can even last this long? 😩😩
His cabling video was long too. 🙂
When I saw you take the rear wing completely off, all I could think about is seeing rear wing failures in F1 and how quickly the rear of the car spins because it's pivoting around the nose. I know you aren't dealing with that much down force but I think you might want to look at that along with the rear sidewalls like you mentioned. It's amazing watching you guys doing this from a grass roots level. Keep up the great content and good luck on your goals.
I know your plate is about as full as it can get, but I'd love to see the 3 rotor get a roll cage, if you plan on continuing with the half mile stuff in that car. much love daddy dahm
Wish we could all blow his dm's up with the clip of that red volvo that wrecked during sick week. Without the cage that dude wouldn't be here. Or any clip really of when a cage saved the drivers life. I don't want to see on Life of Palos that Dahm died because of no cage...
Absolutely. I agree
I agree
Honestly Dahm is too old for the kind of risky sht he's pulling, it's not just the cage, but the test pulls on a public road crowded with vehicles... "car has bad side by side stability" yes let's bring that on a public road. No idea if he even lives out of that if he hits an SUV given how low is the car, but the huuuge risk of killing innocents? That is insane
This. No car with that amount of power should be uncaged. It's just waiting for bad stuff to happen.
Hey Rob just on the BMW diff running backwards, generally the consequence of running a diff backwards is that the drive end bearing of the pinion gear will not get adequate cooling and lubrication.
In normal operation the crown gear “pumps” the oil over the top and throws it at the front bearing.
Just something to keep in mind.
A rear axle is for the back of the car. Running it backwards has the ringear trying to climb out of mesh. 100% wrong,,, just like the rest of the car. And the drag caused is huge. And he waffles about straight cut quickchange gears. As for weight?? Simply scrap all the front drive setup and make it 2wd!
@@ldnwholesale8552 If you are seriously suggesting to make the 4 Rotor RWD you're COMPLETELY missing the whole f*cking point of that car! Sometimes i just wonder if people think before they pull dumb sh*t out of their a**...
@@ldnwholesale8552 You're exaggerating, it can't go out of its frame of reference, it doesn't care where it is or what it does. It's perfectly usable, like the rest of the car, which works. Ya'll negative Nancy need to get a different job, like putin-cheerleader or some shit more aligned with your mentality.
@@ldnwholesale8552 He’s also putting only a fraction of the torque that would normally be 100% through the diff normally so I’m pretty sure it will be fine. If is hasn’t broke yet with his hard launches(which did break his CF driveshafts), then I’m sure it will be fine.
Also quit bashing Rob and go build your own……
His channel is awesome, his crew is awesome, and his cars are awesome.
But the diff is also facing backwards so the oil is being pulled to the pinion gear and bearing under g’s
I think you need to keep that wing on, or at least have some sort of ducktail. I'm no genius but having a huge front bias of downforce with barely anything at the rear is going to make the car naturally pointy and unstable. Even if you just have the rear wing at a really low angle of attack, it should be much safer at those high speeds.
From the way I see it, the car needs a bigger wing, a much bigger wing
@@dertmatyui car needs actual aero package. Not the bigger wing.
Vertical stabilizer could be the best of both worlds, keep the front downforce but gain lateral stability with minimal added drag. I'd also be wondering if the huge lateral forces on the rear suspension/driveline from the instability at speed is contributing to stress on the transmission. If the driveline is already on solid bushings (not sure) then that transmission is moving and jumping around in the trans tunnel a LOT more than I'd be happy with, you can actually see the driveline vibrations start intensifying during high lateral load when the car starts to sway, which might be an indicator for driveline binding because the chassis isn't stiffened enough.
Yeah, taking off the wing was a really stupid decision. I cried out loud when they did. Especially when he pointed out that they added the splitter and stuff. I've been a long time advocate of consulting a professional aerodynamicist on this channel, but eh, what do I know.
2:23 ALRIGHT TIMES UP LETS DO THIS
I appreciated the Leeroy Jenkins reference, even if the guys at the shop didn't
Yep thats good old fashioned bumpsteer with those aftermarket 20b subframes that lower the rack. The only true way to not have this is to move the engine back and re-engineer the stock frame. That's what I did to my car but it's a shit load of work because you have to a make custom lower intake manifold, move the transmission back, relocate the shifter and shorten the drive shaft. At the end it's worth it because the car feels stock while driving plus you have better than factory weight distribution and polar moment with the 20b sitting even lower than the stock 13brew.
Sounds cherry you still got a rx7 ?
@@JB-sv5pr Yep! My baby ain't going no where.
I think keeping the wing on while u run the splitter would help keep the car stable. Major aero imbalance having downforce in the front and practically nothing on the rear that also weighs nothing. it doesn't need to be at a crazy angle but anything helps
There is so much free advice and knowledge in your comments and I love it so much. Keep doing what you're doing Rob and stay safe, listen to these smart ppl in the comments!
The 3 rotor deservers a makeover, man. It's time.
or at least get it wrapped like the 4 rotor
44:17 "that sunroof will leak" completely ignored that it's missing the whole back glass😂
Rob, if it makes you feel better I spit out my drink on the Leroy Jenkins joke.
rob's timeline is more confusing than someone who starts watching marvel movies in 2050😂😂😂😂
YES! An hour long video! Thanks man, love your content.
Hi Rob, best for you would be contacting the UA-camr Phillipp Kaess. His companz is arlows.
He is from Germany, had made videos about a company that produces billet housings for BMW differentials.
For sure he has an address for you and can help you.
AntiGravity needs to sponsor that van to support the amount of time it spends with the alarm going off when Rob's around.
Put in as much caster as you can as well. That will help with stability at speed. A stock fd should be able to run around 8-9 degrees, but you might get some rubbing depending on your front tire size. I was running like 8.5 degrees and rubbed slightly when turning on a 255/40/17. Without fender liners you shouldn't rub at all though.
Whahahha that ‘whooosh’ with the Leroy Jenkins reference was absolutely gigantic and hilarious at the same time!
1:00:32 you mention coasting down leaving it in gear is bad for a rotary. ive never heard that id be interested to know whats going on there. ive always noticed when you do a pull you immediately clutch in and idle instead of just leaving it in gear, even around a circuit. i never thought there was a particular reason for it
Rotarys derive some of their lubrication from the fuel. If you’re coasting it typically will cut the fuel so there will be no lubrication to the seals.
@@maxwelltollefson9947 makes sense. i wonder if you dump some fuel when throttle is closed, more so if rpm is higher. not sure if that would work. i assume if it did he'd be doing it
@@ICKY427 I think that would probably foul up the plugs since your basically running at an ultra rich condition then. The best thing to do is to just let it idle since you have lubrication and still oil flow through the turbo.
Love watching your videos and the way you go about solving problems on your cars.
Bump steer usually is a problem with a lowered car if not corrected. The angle of the tie rods are part of the problem. The other problem is changing the angle of the control arms.
The Leroy Jenkins "repeating of course" killed me. Thanks for the laugh rob.
Lol I never thought I would ever hear someone else quote the Leroy Jenkins UA-cam video.
I use to say that all the time at school back in the day. You never cease to amaze me Rob.
Hey Rob, I’ve been watching since day one for the 4rotor build. I gotta say I’m very proud of the progress you’ve made. I’m from Tecumseh, and I love watching a Lenawee county citizen excel from the little town we’re from! Keep up the good work brother! 👍
Ohh that sweeet turbo with cute rotary attached to it. This Rob's channel is so good and motivating in so meny levels. From getting old/bold and all this car-candy stuff all every 25-55yo men need for our everyday life.
I love how you take a more physics-based approach to a lot of the work you do instead of just slapping stuff together and not really understanding whats going on
Thanks again for coming out to my small town. Was a pleasure having y'all out here.
Rob: Repeating of course
Shop: What the hell are you talking about?
Rob: At least I have chicken
When your clubs no slip, tires have no slip, something has to give.
Remember how Pontiac GTO 6.0L broke shafts to rear wheels after tires were upgraded? How GTR 35 broke transmission on launch?
Solution is to calculate the max sudden torque power limit and set up half shafts to break before anything else. They are the least expensive part in your setup, and less likely to directly hit you when broken under torque.
Thanks Rob, Isaiah and Joel for providing great videos everytime. You provide so much stress relief
Daddy Dahm dropping an hour long banger❤
Life is too precious man, hope you have a jackstand while your'e under there. My coworker friend father recently lost his life coz he was too lazy to use a jack stand.
Rob, i think you need to do some CFD analysis on that wing. The angle you have it at is very steep and angle ≠ downforce. There is a sweet spot and the drastic reduction im MPG on your truck you were mentioning suggests the wing could be stalling. Creating minimal downforce and large drag
Got to love this guy,, being Puerto Rican I grew up listening to these cars day and night.
21:49 was the most euphoric thing I've ever heard. Literally felt like I was in a different realm.
Lessons seemed to have been learned...this is the way. I love that you share this stuff. Thanks
The fact that you push so much power out of these engines and the most damage I see as a title say is, "I broke my transmission." Really a testement to how rock solid you build your motors Rob!
It would be bad ass to see rob go to a cars n coffee type of meet with the 4 rotor to get reactions of older folks 😂
You could always put in an electric vacuum pump for the brake booster, and just not worry about check valves or manifold vacuum...
i have my grandmother 66 Chevelle she bought brand new, i re did it in the mid 90s, my son and i put an LS in it with about 500 blown HP when i re painted it in 2017, that is plenty of HP for city streets. very fun and very reliable. what is most shocking to me is, how little u have to do and how cheap it is to get 500 HP out of an LS. the beating they can take is shocking as well. engine tech in the last 20 years is off the charts.
"The 3 rotor will be tomorrow's video"
10 days later... Roba has different length days to the rest of the world
Im a rotary full time technician been working on rotary engines and marine stuff for 20 years and I guaranteed that 90% of rob ideas are wrong but it’s entertaining reminds me when I was starting. I just hope nobody take his words as reference for something important please don’t do it
I got the Leroy Jenkins reference!
Friends don't let friends get under cars on jacks. A jack is a lifting device, not a holding device. USE JACKSTANDS! I don't want any of you guys to get hurt or killed. Please be careful. Cool cars cool show. Keep up the good work. God bless.
Glad to see u finally get a Hans. Great video 👍 👍
I had those exact tie rods on my drift car for 3+ years with no issues, I thought that it was neat to see !
Keep doin' whatcha do Mr. Dahm!
49:50 ish, you talk about a check valve, you could also get an elec vacuum pump!
The guys not getting the Leeroy Jenkins reference makes me feel sad, and old.
Quick suggestion - if you want to look at your laptop when driving, then make a mount so you can see it without without having to look at the seat
or even better: don't... it's stupidly risky AND it's a public road. Honestly surprised the police isn't just placing a patrol car there at this point, it's a murder waiting to happen. I love Rob but this can't really fly anymore.
Should definitely individualy fuse the coils on all the cars. Maybe add a junction box for them that goes back to the 30 amp fuse, hopefully save you 80 bucks
49:00 dawg, every time you shift that you look like you are about to gite your bottom lip off and it has me rolling.
Rob hear me out, rotary Honda civic if anyone could make it happen it’s you. You’re brilliant with anything that involves engineering.
Take a lookin into militec-1. Anti friction additive. You can put it in trans and differentials as well. I really have noticed a difference in 900whp c5 corvette. I would love for you to check it out and give me your thoughts.
is it similar to dyna lube? it generally fits the same purpose and goes anywhere in the car with metal on metal contact and is meant to keep oil adhered onto the pores of the metal in your engine/transmission/power steering
@@LUCKIPUP I'm not sure I just started digging deep into these anti-wear additives and I'm using militec-1 as we speak. The other ones I've seen are turbomax and nmf
Love how even with all the issues the 3 rotor still slapped that Mustang (?) Next to it
Omar at Raceonly is the man, he remote tuned my car and it takes a serious beating with no issues!
Can't wait for 12 rotor build
Been dreaming of that 12 rotor for years!
I understood and loved the Leeroy Jenkins reference.
Rob, please please please hire an interiors guy to do all of your cars and make a series out of it. This would get so many views.
The silicon is a normal thing for that kind of diff. Keeps oil from leaking through the splines
Crazy how far tire technology has come. The right tire and you could have been straight as an arrow. The wrong tire and it looked like the 3 rotor was trying to twerk at 160 or whatever. Good for you seeing the positive in the breakdown, Rob. A broken shift linkage and a blown clutch or even blown trans is much better than a rolled car or a broken Rob… glad you and the car are in one piece dude.
When I’m torquing the bolts on a ring gear I use a large strap style filter wrench on the case to counter hold the diff. It can be annoying getting someone to hold the diff still for you or one hand it haha
Rob ya really should be checking gear mesh pattern with dye to know if the diffs are set up correctly. Without this you are pissing in the wind with setup and if it’s not right you might be loading the weakest part of the crown wheel which could end in disaster if your loading it with heaps of torque
Congratulations on your great success. Very Nice1!
I just started and people haven't even finished since this released, epic video Papi Dahm!
it amazes me we haven't seen this man get pulled over ONCE doings this wild shit on the streets lmaoo
Rotor looks cracked buddy. Driver front. The rust line in the outer most hole. 🤘🏽🏎
Oh and thanks Rob for the FC gold I went straight out and got a g40-900 and it's so happy on my street car in that low boost range 👌🙏
My mates here havnt wrapped their heads around the science and still run the older gtx series turbos. I win haha
Nailed the live part of live and learn - that's the most important part!
Safety needs to be much higher priority with the speed and dangers involved with home built cars.
We have to use hans devices for offroad racing. They are extremely uncomfortable. They make velcro paddings that fit under. Make sure your fire suit collar is tall enough. Or else the edge of the hans device digs into your skin. I got a burn from it rubbing on my neck for a few hours. They are also very unconfortable to take off.
Rotary legend Rob Dahm you are calculating all the science make it easy for rotary guys bigup to guys like you and Vargas brothers big respect 🤛🏿# keeping rotary's alive# Doritos
“Calculating all the science” 😅 dumb af
Try some punctuation please.
that brake rotor of the 3 rotor is is all cracked haha... thank you for one our of absolute pleasure
Rob did you ever pattern either gearset? Not seeing you adjust pinion depth one whole step missing there.
!
Or setting pinion preload (which didn't look adequate) with an impact wrench, but when it fails, it will be the torque that killed it.
I know it's something I say often, but it's always nice to see top tier guys using Harbor Freight stuff like us amateur builders.
He still uses a harbor freight low-pro jack. As do most car u tubers. I do appreciate it as well
Rob man-handling the shifts in the 3 rotor while biting his lip is the most sexy yet manly thing you’ll see today. 😂
Spinning the gear backwards is 1/3rd strength reduction, so all the trees.... the crush washer on the pinion adds the preload for the conical bearing.
The crown gear for the diff. You need a oven and heat slightly makes it easier to fit
I love the driving faces ❤
Rob started talking about ratios and I got ratio'd... Also LEROY JENKINS!!! 9:12
You see it through the right scope, Rob. I'm glad you're alright, an glad you caught the tire issue.
The shift issue is prolly just a bound up linkage.
🤘🤘🤘
44:41 I really find it fascinating how the IDLE RPM for these cars the is the same as the MAX RPM for a lot of commercial trucks XD
Right when you said "repeating of course" I knew exactly what you were gonna say😂
I agree with everyone else. You guys need to time out and address some safety concerns. Firewall in the 4 rotor, some kind of cage in the 3 rotor would be a great start.
Rob doesn't always upload every other day or every week, but when he does upload a video its always like 30mins - 1hr.
On a ford rear you need to crush the pinion with the nut until you have 15-28 in/lbs of rotating resistance. Around 225-275 ft/lbs
I can't believe this is still on UA-cam!!..the way he films the explanations of how deeply he nerds out on numbers and how sharp he is at grasping what they translate to in real world application; on top of having great hair..I just can't understand how UA-cam is allowing this level of filth and depravity in car pornagraphy to be shown
At the right time Rob!
I love seeing you use the carbon tubing for SOMETHING 5:28
I have those exact gloves bro, such an inspiration to never give up 🤘🏽
Love the driver front cracked brake rotor. 😬
Hey Rob, is there a lockout solenoid on the magnums like there are on the older t56's? Lots of folks over the years have ripped them out since theyre not needed and if there's interference in your signal wires maybe that could be causing weird things to happen?
I imagine Isaiah's bedroom has one of those tie dye 'tree of life' tapestries on the wall, Christmas lights, messages and drawings from his friends on the wall by his bed, a few dream catchers, and a bong on the night stand.
The 4 rotor screams like a banshee with the big turbo, I love it
I can see Rob playing WoW. Rolled a DPS class, joined a public raid, got hyper-frustrated no one was doing what they were supposed to. more dots. more dots. more dots. stop dots.
The Leroy Jenkins quote was top notch
The 3-rotor running the half mile was the first video of Dahms I ever watched. Some three or four years ago, crazy.
