You should put a lapel mic on Isaiah, so he's always in perfect audio. This would give you several major advantages. When Isaiah says something we'll be able to hear him better. When Isaiah says something dumb you can use editing software to isolate what he said and remove it. You can also edit together an independent video of just shit he says.

This to me looks like it was straight water ran (probably not even distilled) and just years of electrolysis from the dissimilar metals of the housings and irons. This almost certainly would have had a coolant seal failure. I'd definitely want to measure the land between the water jacket and seal groove to make sure there is enough material left. They can sometimes be deceiving there they look sufficiently thick, but are just full of pitting and will crumble at looking at them wrong. For lights I recommend the Snap-On Necklamps, you can wear it around your neck (as the name) or on your head, plus they're super bright.

I've been using the Snap-On Project (ECPRA072GR) light and really like it. USB-C, no modes to flip through, just on/off, adjustable brightness (long press on power button) and adjustable base and a darn strong magnet. I left this under a customer vehicle and they took it off and brought it back once they drove to their facility.

There are no freeze plugs in the rotor housings under the lower intake manifold from the factory. The front rotor is blocked by the lower intake and the rear feeds the stock coolant line for the turbo. It is best to install 20mm freeze plugs in both holes. That way you don't heat the lower intake manifold unnecessarily with hot coolant in the rear housing. The top coolant outlet on the rear iron that was plugged (and then broken off) is the preferred spot to use for feeding coolant to the turbo, I wouldn't plug it.

You probably know this but it might help someone. Around 6 years ago I got a set of rotors for my 13b and they are polished with a buffer wheel, I have rebuilt the engine after 4 years of running and there was hardly any carbon in the engine stuck to the rotors. Any carbon left on the rotors wiped off with a paper towel. Maybe a nice machined rotor face could do the same.

So for good shop lights, just hop on a snapon truck, ask for the specs on the light you like, somehow make it off the truck without buying anything, check the price on that light online and make sure it’s a good price, and you’ll be set. It’s like some brand called streamlight and the snapon guy will give you a lifetime warranty on it. Those lights are friggen tough. One of my coworkers had one run over by a trucks 6 times before it broke. Super bright and grab some rechargeable batteries and you’re set. The little pen light only cost like 40. I know this sounds like an add of some sort but as a mechanic this light was way better than any other autozone light.

I have a 86 NA sports and its on 87000 km (54k miles) stock untouched motor. It sat for 10-15 years, a year before I brought it and when I had it I only drove it every weekend or so. It ran perfectly no issues but when I first got it the coolant system looked disgusting so I drained it flushed and thought it was good to go. Had the car serviced just so I could get it checked over for any issues I need to address. The following weekend after the service I started it up and let it warm up in the driveway and then when backing out of the driveway there was coolant everywhere (Waterpump leaking from the weep hole) so I replaced the water pump and went to start it and had trouble starting it. Tried a couple basic things and nothing worked so sent it back to the shop to be looked at and that’s when I was told it’s lost comp on both rotors. 25 psi all around and 28 on one face of one of the rotors. This baffled me as from my understanding, for what seemed to be a healthy engine with not even a single issue. To lose comp on both rotors seemingly out of no where is just wrong. But after seeing this video I’m wondering if it’s because it spent most of its life sitting being on only 87000 km (54k miles)I’ve got a couple things I’ve been told I could try to start it but if none work I’m thinking of pulling it out myself and rebuilding it myself as I don’t have much money and learning to build engines especially rotary is my dream. I should note I’ve never done an engine rebuild before so I’ll be taking an extreme amount of time to get it perfectly and educating myself before trying anything. Your videos will be extremely helpful. But yeah if anyone’s got any feedback on any of that it’d be much appreciated as I’ve got no clue what happened and neither does anyone I’ve talked to so far : /

Rob, the gunk is a mix of water and old coolant sitting for years. Seen this alot on engines that has sit a long time or been mixing coolant between red and green/blue antifreeze. Also springs on the old engines are crap, esp the corner seals they flatten instant almost :P So do your self a favour and replace all seals and springs with same you would use on and Rew engine. And go 2 piece seals as well and don't go it has to be stock Turbo 2 seals. They suck and can't handle any boost or power at all. Glad you decided to split the engine. My first thought was split the engine as it's been sitting for way way too long. Looking forward to seeing what you will do with this car :)

Nice video! When tapping NPT use an NPT plug gauge so you know how deep to go. The NPT plug gauge has a notch to indicate the proper tapping depth.

all of the blockage is the aluminum reacting to coolant setting in the block . even if it was freshly rebuilt just setting for 10 years would do that luckily now we have coolant that will protect the aluminum from getting that bad .it was a damn good idea to have taken the block down it would have died if you had run it like that .

Streamlight makes the best flashlights! The Wedge is a great EDC pocket light, I don't go anywhere without mine. The Strion LED is the best for automotive work--robust, long battery life, and very bright. They have really good warrantees as well.

The question about light. Get some decent head lamp with rechargeable/replacable 18650 battery and a dedicated charger for cells. It's a life changer. Can't believe professional car mechanics are still using flashlights or putting them in their mouth.

It hurts to see all the hate on microtec. Those things were great for their time. Got a lot of cars down the track and set a lot of world records. The microtec had no closed loop control, just data logging. Sold quite a few of those.

The coolant passage in the rear iron that you broke off is a lot easier to get out with a screw extractor. When I broke that fitting on my motor I used the screw extractor with a drill and eventually the fitting will grab and start spinning, while it’s spinning pull out and boom it’s out and no damage to the iron

My best shop lights honestly are the ones from the local dollar store. They have most of the features of new lights like magnets, hooks, kickstands cob led and led arrays all in one. They are also only a few bucks so if you put them somewhere and hurt them it doesn't matter!

The fittings+orings (at 31:30) you mention being rated to "2000 psi or something" are actually rated to 3000 psi. I make fire suppression systems and the fittings we use look identical to yours, and are pressurized to 3000 psi every time in order to pass DOT spec. Your fittings are comfortable up to 3000 psi at the very minimum

7:35 [I'm looking for a good shop light] A pair of Milwaukee Underbody Lights #2126 are great for working under vehicles. Their Underhood light #2125 is also cool as an area type light. The Astro 40SL and 72SL are also handy especially when there's something nearby to stick their magnetic base to.
