The fact that Rob got his parts back from the UPS debacle is wild... FedEx lost my turbo and custom manifold and waste gate and basically told me to kick rocks.
I believe he had to re-buy them, from their loss liquidation department. They declared the package lost (lost the label)and then sold the contents on ebay

Mike was fighting overheating issues in his car and he had a pro race team build it/support it but to be fair they were constrained by the factory road car engine bay. So it will be really interesting to see if Robs plan works out

It's crazy to think that was more than 5yrs ago. I remember watching Rob before it got lost. I've been a fan of these 2 for so many years. It's mind-blowing to see where they both are now.
I’m going to go AGAINST the grain here and say that Rob is building a motor that should last a very long time with a whole lot of abuse. This is his opportunity to build and show what he’s capable of in the rotary space. I’d put my faith in him, especially with rotaries. :)
Not sure what record Rob is going for at the Peak, but some serious dudes and machinery compete there. Will be cheering for him even though his chances are...well...you know.
GO TO SKIP BARBER 3 DAY FORMULA 4 SCHOOL AT COTA! I took their F4 course and it was epic and I went from a 5/10 driver to an 8/10 driver in 3 days. Also, Circuit of the Americas is an incredible track. Feels like a massive rollercoaster. Skip Barber Formula 4 at COTA is also soooo boujie. Steak and veggies for lunch in younger and all that. Not to mention the connections you make during lunch. I met a an old dude that just bought a Noble M600 and he wanted to learn the skills to drive his new super car.
When Rob is explaining the irons, he shows a lot of 13b center irons when talking about the airflow differences but doesn't explain why you are using those. A 20b center iron has bigger primary and smaller secondary like the outer primaries on the 13b end plates so that it can feed a more equal amount of air to the center rotor, but a single 20b center iron is ~7000USD and you would need 2 of them, then have them modified for the carrier bearing as well as a custom shaft made for that width of plate. This is why pretty much all high power NA 4 rotor builds are 13b center plates with peripheral port housings (intake ports drilled into side of housing and intake ports on irons blocked off). The reason I mention this is because Mazdas 787B engine is the only 4 rotor i've seen that utilizes 20b center irons (likely for additional carrier bearing support). No other 4 rotors that have been posted on the internet utilize the thicker center iron. You'll have no problem making 1000+whp on that setup, just figured I'd mention this as its something interesting I noticed over the years.
that's not a 20B iron, that's an old 12A iron, they're just a little bit thicker of a casting and have much more room around the ports, that's why they're preferred for the center, the 20B fat irons look nothing like that, they have coolant seal groves in them just like regular 13B irons and are WAY thicker, they also have a primary port on one side and a secondary on the other, so you'd see two differently sized ports on each side, the top of it also has some extrusions around the "oil rail", they like to crack there. the original mazda 4 rotors used for all intents and purpouses "20B fat iron" sized irons for the 2nd and 4th iron, presumably used because of their gear, with one of them effectively "flipped" so both gears faced the center of the motor, the center irons on them were standard 13B dimensions, keep in mind that none of those irons had anything else in common with standard production irons, they were completely unique casts specifically designed for that engine, they were also peripheral port motors. tl;dr: rob did explain the center iron, it's an old 12a iron, found in the old cosmo among other older rotary mazdas, and the original mazda 4 rotor used completely bespoke castings with design cues taken from the 20B fat irons, yet had standard width 13B center irons

Rob totally needs to talk to Mercedes Benz AMG F1 and Reaction Engines about how they cool their F1 cars and adapt it to his Pikes Peak special. Likely more cooling than he'd ever need with less than half the weight! 😊
