Excellent, that's exactly what I'm trying to help... get people over the learning hump. It's tough out there... I was there once. We were all new once.
@Allenfishes An 11 year old kid walked up with a rod today and was asking me if there was any fish. I said yeah there are lots of fish in the river. Said he's never caught a fish. I watched him cast and his float disappeared, way too much weight. So i asked if he would mind if i fixed his weight by trimming some off. He was all excited. I grabbed his rod and noticed a 1/0 sized barbed circle hook. I said you know you can't use barbed hooks for salmon and Circle hooks aren't that great. How about i give you one of my leaders. So i tied one on. I gave him aome roe and showed him how to use the egg loop and put the roe on. Then he casts and birds nests. Then says he can't fix it. So I go over and untangle is mess. Then I adjust the baitcaster reel breaking system for a smooth spoon release and reduce birds nests. He was pretty happy. I was going to leave but I told him I'd take a couple casts and if float went down he can grab my rod. Sure enough two casts later... float down fish on. Handed it over and he did a great job... salmon landed. He said my parents are going to be amazed I caught fish for dinner. ... got his first one.
@@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures there you go! That’s all it takes to get one to be a fish junkie sometimes. I think even flossers even when gently advised take a clue and don’t repeat. Fishing’s supposed to be a good time always and friendly interactions make it 2x better. I’ll remember to help someone out too.
Really enjoyed that video! Would love to see a detailed video of your whole rod setup for float fishing. I sort of get confused because I’m using braid as my main line and I’m not sure leader length, or if you can put the float on the braided line etc. I got some of those dne floats, they’re pretty sweet!
Yes, I put my float right on the braided line. You can also tie a top shot piece of fluorocarbon to your braid and that's where you attach your float. Thanks for watching. I'll try to make the video you're requesting Maybe next week.
I love this channel started fishing for coho for the first time, and only being 18 I have Minimal experience. But this helps. If anyone has tips for me. That would be extremely helpful
Yeah, I love the walk. It's beautiful and great exercise after standing at the river for a few hours. Great release of endorphins, dopamine and all those good chemicals to keep you brain happy and healthy!
@@JohnJames. this was last year... not this season. Don't let it manipulate your decision on where to go. The Vedder is doing well. Quite a few coho right now.
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures I think I'll do vedder, hoping not as busy as a weekend. I can get to missions spot in under 10 minutes, usually first out there. Hooked into not a chum last weekend, horsed it too much to get a solid look, but it was clean . Also had 2 seals in the run. I only really tried the cannel last year 2 times , never have a whole day to check it out, big stretch of water to explore
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures I went with a friend who is recovering from knee surgery. Only checked one spot . went to another system .Got him into a nice hatchery buck , and I got a wild doe. I might try one more time, maybe .. maybe after work today
@@JohnJames. Oh that's too bad the vedder was great all day for me yesterday bites throughout. Fish moving constantly. Yeah river fishing is not a good after knee surgery activity... totally bad footing with all the rock.
I messaged you on instagram a few weeks back and you gave me lots of good advice, thanks for that. I ended up going out last Friday and went at first light, I hooked into 5-6 coho in the span of 1 hour all on roe. Then after that I didnt catch anything for 4 hours but everyone around me was catching fish and limiting out while I couldnt catch anything, was I doing something wrong? float depth, leader length stayed the same and I fished the tailout all day. I switched between roe and beads, still nothing. What should I have changed or done differently? Thanks.
Your experience sounds pretty standard. This is common. You should be aware that just because people are dragging in fish one after another does not mean they are catching them. A lot of people who keep pulling in fish as the bite stops are flossing or intentionally snagging the fish in the mouth. The fish are involuntarily caught and this explains why they continue to catch and your bites stop. What they're doing is very unimpressive. Don't try to be like them. Keep doing it the right way. Quite often if a lot of flossers move into the run in freaks the fish out and they will stop biting. So just be aware of flossy people on the river and avoid them. Especially when they're snagging bottom repeatedly and keep ripping on every cast. Typical floss behavior. I had two above me on the run I was fishing today opposite shore. It's pretty strange behavior in my opinion. Nothing to be proud about. Purely snagging filling the freezer.
The canal is full of flossy type fishermen. Sometimes the bute dies unless youre in a deeper trench in the canal. It is also tide effected bite. They come up the canal at high tide.@lzrk1d888
It's ok it will be viewable at any time after its premiered. Can watch any time. The premiere is fun but they just don't have that much pull.@darkoreljic9457
Maybe there is a misunderstanding. In my opinion I did not remove any of the fish from the water that were released. Please time stamp the areas of concern. I try to handle fish as careful as I can. Want to be a good example in that regard. I am open to education and recommendations. A lot of people do actually drag the fish up on dry land before releasing. Definitely, that's no good.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. just started salmon fishing the Vedder and videos like this help tremendously. Keep it up! Cheers

Chum look like they're recovering well. I saw plenty of them near the hatchery aswell.
Hope so, need their numbers to be healthy!
Very educational content for new anglers. Would love it if you can go over water reading a bit more in a future video.

start slip bobber depth at 12 inches to start. that's what I do for trout.
