When I was a kid, I had never seen the movies but I played this game, and I assumed the game was true to the source material. My dad would mention something about a scene from Aliens and I'd ask about the lightning aliens. He stopped thinking it was funny after it kept happening lol.
@@fred_derf_ So did I. I first saw aliens during a vacation to the states during the summer of 90. The next day I saw the arcade cabinet at a go-kart track. The next week I was in Disney World at the MGM movie ride seeing the alien evacuation countdown scene with the creature bursting out from the conduits overhead. I was forever hooked after that. And yes, there was something creepy about the opening theme with the image of the creature and the cocooned colonist.
My parents had this arcade machine in their cafeteria and I played it a lot there back in the day. I managed to beat the game a couple of times. I remember that the alien queen could be beaten by throwing her out of the hatch and by ripping her to pieces.
This is a pretty fun game. I always wanted a dedicated ALIENS arcade cabinet. I finally built myself one. This was the first arcade game I finished back in the day.
Saw the movie Aliens on TV in the late 80's as a kid (7 or 8 years old) and it always scared me senseless. So naturally, when I saw this game in a arcade while on holiday with my family, it made me excited and anxious at the same time, lol. Being a young kid at the time though, this game was difficult.
This was almost ported to the Sega Genesis back in the day, but never made it to shelves because of a licensing dispute between James Cameron and Konami. As for the arcade, I remember blowing through fifty bucks playing this with my younger brother.
You know... For a movie tie-in arcade game from the 1980s, this game looks absolutely amazing both in terms of gameplay and graphics! Especially when compared to home consoles and PC games from the same period. As a millennial born in the 90s, it really puts into perspective the fact that back in the day, only the hardware for arcades could afford to be the top of the line compared to whatever you can get at home.
This game is based upon the 1986 movie "Aliens". You and your partner go and shoot as many aliens as possible in this side-scroller. Aliens is primarily a side-scrolling shooter in which the player must defend against various Aliens, with certain parts of the game switching to a third-person rail shooter perspective. Players can play as either Ellen Ripley or Corporal Hicks, who both begin the game with a smart gun and can upgrade to other weapons such as flamethrowers and missile or grenade launchers. The player is given several health points, one of which is lost if the player is attacked by an Alien. The player loses a life if all the health points are lost, and the game ends if all the player's lives are depleted. Boss enemies are encountered at the end of each level, with the final boss being the Alien Queen, which the player fights with a power exoskeleton loader. A two-player mode is also available. The enemies range from standard ones seen in the films to specialized ones created exclusively for this game. When fighting the Alien Queen, two victorious outcomes are possible. In the first, the player simply opens the airlock, as in the 1986 film. If the player chooses, they can fight the Queen further, wearing her down until she bursts apart.
I used to have this arcade game in my house back in the 90s. Ended up swapping the game board for Rally X, then Pacland, then wwf superstars. The good old days.
+James Evans You should read William Gibson's script for Alien 3. It's.. mildly put quite insane, with aliens being able to infest others through airtoxins.
Zeithri a little late I admit to the party here, but they also wanted to originally make the inmates, “monks” on a planet made of wood lol. Alien 3 is my second to last favorite with resurrection being my least favorite, but I’m glad they went with the prison route, even though the movie wasn’t anything special for me. Even fincher disavowed the film and why he doesn’t direct any sequels at all today
This was a fun game. It kind of creeped me out when I was a kid. Konami owned back then. I love arcade/video game logic: she gets dropped off by the armored carrier at the beginning of Level 1, then it comes to get her at the end after killing the Boss. Why not just start at the boss with the armed and armored carrier instead of attacking it with small arms and one person lol ? And then the 2nd level why is she on top of the vehicle standing right next to the huge machine gun wouldn't it make more sense to just use the huge machine gun to take out the aliens coming at you ? I'm being fussy on purpose of course, but it's fun to think about.
Fuzzy memories of playing this for nickels at "Wunderland", in Eugene, and it being one of the first games I ever beat. They did so much with the limitations they had in terms technology with this game. They stretched their hardware to the limit.
How I wish I had $5 whole dollars in quarters to myself back in the day so I could beat this game myself... but no, I had to split that $5 with my brothers, who were bad at the game lol. Good times.
Goddamn, was it really 28 years ago when I was playing this game as a kid?? As a side note, I always wondered why we didn't see more Aliens arcade games.
Edward Carnby there have been many arcade games based on aliens. Sega did a mounted gun of aliens in the early 90’s, there was one made in 2007 which I forget who made the game and rawthrils did aliens Armageddon lightgun game back in 2014. There was another one made in 1994 by Sega but not familiar with it but there have been quite a few arcade games based on aliens.
Anyone else remember beating the alien queen either way as in either making like the movie and dropping her down the shaft or by keeping your distance and pumping her up with lead?
I know it sounds crazy, but I like how you didn't master the game and beat every boss with no damage. Those virtuoso playthroughs aren't fun. Your playing style is good but you show how hard the game is and it makes it more fun and suspensful.
This game was apart of my childhood. My dad one summer when I was a little kid, had bought an arcade machine with this exact game. He put it in our garage, I remember playing with my father and older brother. The nostalgia is real
Back when having to continue in a game was the ultimate sign of weakness. I remember clearing this game twice over in one game once. You really had to memorise where every enemy was and how they were gonna come at you.

I just love it when video games don't go by the source material. Zombie alien, spider alien?, and a blonde Sigourney Weaver And is it me or does it sound like when you pick up a weapon it sounds like someone saying shit?
I would love if James Cameron would direct another Aliens movie to resurrect the franchise. I can at least dream about it and I am sure I am not the only one who feels the same way. At least he is producing the next Terminator movie. Thank God for that.
I always played this at a local arcade. Too bad this, Simpsons and other awesome Konami coin-ops never got a home port :( Licensing, I'm sure..........
Simpsons = Acclaim Owning the rights for console. Aliens = LJN (Maybe) or any other company. You do know that LJN was owned by Acclaim right MSd Radiant Alpinia. They bought LJN in the late 1980's from Universal after Back to the Future and Jaws games flopped. Acclaim used LJN to get around the 5 games per year rule Nintendo of America had during the time period. Just like how Konami used Ultra to get around that rule, Data East used Ocean (although Data East didn't own Ocean, they did have a agreement for their games and the licenses that Ocean owned had purchased).
I loved this when I was a kid seeing it in Woking Leisure Centre in 1990. Never played it, just watched other people play. The soundtrack is extraordinary. And the alien designs make it the Gremlins 2 of Aliens adaptations. Star Magic Jackson Jr was definitely in the meetings for this one: "Electric Xenomorphs! Roll-Up-In-A-Ball Xenomorphs! I pumped so many quarters into this game as a kid. The gameplay, the graphics, the music, everything is awesome. Some interesting… creative liberties that left me thinking things like “OK, what kind of animal did THAT xenomorph burst out of?” and “Zombies? Like most people in the comment section, this game was scary and fun to play. On the second level, I crashed the elevator once (and the last time) and was scared to ride an elevator for nearly 5 years. 😅
Last of their "WHAT" flung into timeless space?!?! Don't leave me hanging, badly translated game! :-D I loved this one back in the day. Used to play it at the movie theater near my house when i was in high school.
Regarding the alien designs, konami had done some psychedelic ripoffs for the Contra arcade games. They seem to have decided on the same approach for the licensed adaptation. There's also resemblance to Kenner's infamous figures, which came out a bit later. Incidentally, I would love to hear what backstory they thought up for the zombie guys with the machine guns!
I wanted to give you guys a tip for beating the boss that rolls around in a ball. Bring the rocket launcher and keep shooting him while he rolls towards you and the rockets will cause him to bounce around. When he bounces around just move up/down the screen to avoid being hit and switch sides quickly as he leaves the ball and then begin shooting him. Repeat this until he dies, I was able to kill that boss without taking a single hit.
Awesome game based on an awesome movie. So many video games based off of movies are infamous for being terrible, but this is definitely an extremely strong exception to the rule. There's actually a lot of very good Alien and Predator games. There's some duds here and there but for the most part, both have been treated quite well when it comes to good video game adaptations.
18:57 I never got this far, ever. Couldn't continue after running out of quarters. Only remember stepping away from the machine forlornly looking at INSERT COIN flashing back at me.
Recordarme de mi infancia..😢😢😢 bastante jugué Alliens... Allá por el 80.. mi abuelo me daba y yo iba a las maquinitas ... Imaginaba yo era el que iba a rescatar a la niña...
I always wondered what the hell the first boss was doing when it's head got blown off and started firing.... SOMETHING at you. Acid? Psychic energy? it was a mystery. And then there is the second boss that shoots... magnetic disturbances? Out of it's body. No idea what is going on sometimes.
The mall closest to us growing up had this game in a pretty sweet underground arcade. This game had its own wicked room/container (whatever you’d call it) with neon blue and aliens on the sides. My mom didn’t allow for a lot of time for me to play this. But I enjoyed the little time I had on it. Did this ever come to consoles?
I played this game at my local 7-11. While playing this, I asked myself if the designers ever saw the movie. I can't recall flying aliens, alien zombies, alien snakes, facing some of the "boss" aliens at the end of each level, or the Queen shooting balls out of her mouth.
Just played this for the first time today, and aliens vs predator arcade game. Thank god for the pandora saga console. Best invention ever lol. Not sure why I never got to play the two back in the day, but atleast I have now. Fantastic game play.
I always was a bit freaked out whenever I played this game. Also bc the arcade that had this game was pitch dark and only my brother and I used to go to it during summer vacation days.
Man, I found this game just once in the arcades as a young'n. We were in a Florida campground right by Disney World, and they just so happened to have this game in it. Played it half the night while the parents where asleep in tent. I was a huge Aliens fan and it reminded of a graphically upgraded Contra to boot. Fell in love with it, only to never be able to find it again. Luckily today we have Mame! Of course the pc version of mame has such an archaic interface. It's usable but no where near as user friendly as say Wii mame. It' has option to set the controls but it lists like 50 options, instead of letting you bind a controller and set the others to keyfunctions, also every time I load a new arcade game my settings are wiped. If anyone knows of better version for PC I'll give you all the internets and spiderwebs I have for the link
+Colin Harvey Use a frontend like Emuloader and the mame executable or a premade one like MameUI which lets you bind keys. I rarely have to alter key bindings now unless a conflict with newer mame is out.
Thank you, I'll definitely try this. I have something like 12 emulators I use on a regular basis but never really picked up on mame. For an arcade emulator on PC its both awesome and horrible, awesom because of its faithful reproductions and terrible because they havn't update the ui in like 8 years
+gentarofourze Just wanted to come back and say thanks again, I got it working w/ Emuloader and finally got to complete what I started in childhood, and cross one more thing off the bucket list! Game was a cool as I remembered it, although the weird zombie people popping out of grates don't exactly match canon lol, but happily or sadily depending the way you look at it, this is probably the 3rd best Aliens game ever, after Aliens Infestation on the DS, and Alien V Predator on PC.
I always begged my mom for us to eat at our local pizza hut because they had this game there. I got so tired of pizza hut but I loved this game so much I didn't care. I lost my mom almost 3 months ago. Thank you mom for doing things you didn't want to do so I would be happy.

Like most people in the comment section, this game was scary and fun to play. On the second level, I crashed the elevator once (and the last time) and was scared to ride an elevator for nearly 5 years. 😅
Managed to complete it on one credit in a arcade in Southport 🏆 10p for you old gamer's😆
Last of their "WHAT" flung into timeless space?!?! Don't leave me hanging, badly translated game! :-D I loved this one back in the day. Used to play it at the movie theater near my house when i was in high school.
When this game first came out I had no idea that it was based on a movie
Regarding the alien designs, konami had done some psychedelic ripoffs for the Contra arcade games. They seem to have decided on the same approach for the licensed adaptation. There's also resemblance to Kenner's infamous figures, which came out a bit later. Incidentally, I would love to hear what backstory they thought up for the zombie guys with the machine guns!
This game was awesome.. the sound, the simply but great play... i love it. One of the best Alien game.
At the end, "...and the last of their flung into timeless space." How about some proofreading back in the 80s? C'mon Konami!
This aliens arcade game is your worst nightmare i will not be this arcade because i will have nightmare for the rest of my life
Awesome game based on an awesome movie. So many video games based off of movies are infamous for being terrible, but this is definitely an extremely strong exception to the rule. There's actually a lot of very good Alien and Predator games. There's some duds here and there but for the most part, both have been treated quite well when it comes to good video game adaptations.
Did you know that the guys behind the sound effects and music are both Masanori?
Masanori Adachi and Masanori Oouchi
One of my favorite arcade games growing up
Jeez how many quarters would you have had to use to beat the Queen!
At last a real play through. None of this no hit, no continue level 1 bs. Thanks. This is how it’s meant to be played.
thank you for watching
18:57 I never got this far, ever. Couldn't continue after running out of quarters. Only remember stepping away from the machine forlornly looking at INSERT COIN flashing back at me.
This game collects quarters so well. Addicting and hard.
Recordarme de mi infancia..😢😢😢 bastante jugué Alliens... Allá por el 80.. mi abuelo me daba y yo iba a las maquinitas ... Imaginaba yo era el que iba a rescatar a la niña...
Loved loved this arcade game back in the day... I would visit an out of the way arcade just to play this game that was far from the town I lived
I always wondered what the hell the first boss was doing when it's head got blown off and started firing.... SOMETHING at you. Acid? Psychic energy? it was a mystery.
And then there is the second boss that shoots... magnetic disturbances? Out of it's body. No idea what is going on sometimes.
This game is so much fun. I remember playing it a lot in the arcade as a kid.
I wish this game was in snes 👍🏻
The mall closest to us growing up had this game in a pretty sweet underground arcade. This game had its own wicked room/container (whatever you’d call it) with neon blue and aliens on the sides. My mom didn’t allow for a lot of time for me to play this. But I enjoyed the little time I had on it. Did this ever come to consoles?
no it didnt i wish it would have cos it was awesome
So many memory of racing to the local video store to play this after primary school =) this and the turtles arcade game where classic 😀😀😀
I played this game at my local 7-11. While playing this, I asked myself if the designers ever saw the movie. I can't recall flying aliens, alien zombies, alien snakes, facing some of the "boss" aliens at the end of each level, or the Queen shooting balls out of her mouth.
I remember playing this at the 7 11 his games was hard as foookkk as a kid
Oh man, I loved this game. Scared me when I was younger, too.
Just played this for the first time today, and aliens vs predator arcade game. Thank god for the pandora saga console. Best invention ever lol.
Not sure why I never got to play the two back in the day, but atleast I have now. Fantastic game play.
My favorite track from this game had to be the post-elevator descent of the third stage.
Totally loved this game. Could clock it 2 times with one 10p 3rd time was always a pain at the end.
Caraca.... Melhor jogo de arcade!!! Me amarrava!!! Pena q nao se acha mais....
Seriously this game is awesome I never even knew existed how did I miss this growing up? This is what a proper aliens game should be
in the 90s it was in all arcades this and turtles
@@kakoroto somehow I never saw one
I always was a bit freaked out whenever I played this game. Also bc the arcade that had this game was pitch dark and only my brother and I used to go to it during summer vacation days.
Konami need to release this on ps4. It’s long over due! 🤔
Is that Ben Stein's voice at the title screen?
Man,
I found this game just once in the arcades as a young'n.
For an arcade emulator on PC its both awesome and horrible, awesom because of its faithful reproductions and terrible because they havn't update the ui in like 8 years
+gentarofourze
Just wanted to come back and say thanks again, I got it working w/ Emuloader and finally got to complete what I started in childhood, and cross one more thing off the bucket list!
Game was a cool as I remembered it, although the weird zombie people popping out of grates don't exactly match canon lol, but happily or sadily depending the way you look at it, this is probably the 3rd best Aliens game ever, after Aliens Infestation on the DS, and Alien V Predator on PC.
try a steam controller.
アーケードとはいえ80年代のゲームとしては衝撃だった。難易度の高さも凄かったが。
Arcade classic ported to Switch when?
