Capcom created some awesome fighting games using its CPS hardware. The Punisher is probably my favourite of these, but Alien vs. Predator comes a very close second.
The sci-fi universes of Alien and Predator collide in a testosterone-packed brawler featuring some of the best graphics and gameplay at the time. Each of the four characters on offer has a wide range of attack moves and combos with which to tackle the xenomorph menace, and you'll certainly need to become proficient with these if you hope to deal with the frankly ridiculous number of opponents on screen.
The game also features many of the iconic weapons from both movie franchises, including the pulse rifle, smart gun, plasma caster and throwing disc. What's more, these have movie-correct sound effects, which is just as well; it would be inconceivable to fire a pulse rifle and NOT hear THAT sound!
I don't really know much about the AvP extended universe or the comics, but it always struck me as a little disappointing the game didn't feature Ripley; a Major Dutch Schaeffer and Ellen Ripley would have made for a badass tag team against the aliens, but being able to clobber xenos as a predator with spear and smart disc pretty satisfying.
If you want to experience one of the best brawlers of a generation, AvP should be top of your list!

I remember seeing this at an arcade when I was visiting the beach and I recruited three complete strangers to help me playthrough the entire game. Afterwards, we looked at each other like "that was cool" and parted ways immediately. Never saw any of them again. 😂
Almost like four heroes meeting at a conflict and parting ways after. Cool.

This game must have made serious bank for the arcades back in the day. So fun to play.
Back in the mid-90's, my arcade pretty much was Capcom games, Sega's Virtual Fighter, Virtual Cop, House of the Dead and Daytona USA games, Namco's Ridge Racer, Tekken, Soul Edge, Time Crisis, and then lots and lots of Midway stuff like Gauntlet Legends, Mortal Kombat 2, 3 and Ultimate, Hydro Thunder, and a bunch of lesser known company's racing games. Occasionally there'd be the multi-game SNK cabinet with Samurai Showdown 2 and maybe In the Hunt or Raiden 2 lol
They had it at the convience store by my house in the late 90s that was awesome

This is one of the best licensed games of all time. It's one thing to look good, but it plays fantastically, and the fun and difficulty of it meant you didn't mind pumping coins in to keep playing. I wish Capcom renewed this license for it to be re-released!

This is what I wanted my AvP movie to be like. Setting it in the same timeline/universe as 1986's Aliens makes way more sense. Instead we got boring scientist lady and Predators going on a weekend hunting trip to earth.
Apparently this was based on a rejected Alien vs Predator script. Apparently the issue was the cyborg Dutch was supposed to be the Arnold the Governator himself, and there were apparently issues over that.
That powerbomb on razor claws was clean AF
One of the levels was called "Assault on A Queen" and I said what is that Friday night in Hollywood
i played this game last night in an arcade jn Akihabara Tokyo. we got to the final Queen boss but ran out of change, so i am watching to see what happened in the last few minutes. the game was like nothing else!

Who knew Capcom would make THIS? People said these game needs to be remastered or remade and I agree. Hopefully it happens one day.
Or maybe as a DLC Characters for Aliens: Fireteam Elite, but licensed by CAPCOM itself.

not only is this game great, but it gave us the most beautiful Foreshadowing I've ever seen, since 10 years later in 2004 (the year I was born) he he releases the film on the predators against the xenomorphs, thank you to this game if I was a fan of alien vs predator!

When emulators came out, got an Xbox "mod-chipped" and this was literally the first game that I HAD to play... When I was a kid, I was only able to play for as long as 4-6 quarters (max... Yeah we were poor) could allow, so I never got to beat this nor TMNT and X-Men on arcade... Once I got it, I played em in that exact order lol... And ended with Dungeons & Dragons, which is also a fun ass game like this one with more RPG elements but still just a beat em up
Excellent sprite work. So crisp and clean. I love the detail in the animation and the rich and colourful environment s. When he picks items up it sounds like he is saying "ow fuck"
I remember of a teacher of mine she downloaded every single game from the arcade in 3 CDs back then we were able to play them in the computer they were a lot from Neo Geo and another company this one I would play a lot I miss the good old arcade games

I remember playing this at the greyhound bus station, don't know which one and I'd be very surprised if it's still there.
When i was a kid in the 90s, I heard a goofy radio commercial about "Alien Eggs" having been sighted in Washington State. I totally thought they meant Xenomorphs. I was afraid to let the cat back in the house, in case it had a chestburster in it.
Finished this game at an arcade with a friend once, in one sitting... The sense of achievement after a long period of trying. Hahhaa..

Never had this at the local arcades. Only got to play it during summer vacation in Cape Cod. Buddy and I loved this game.

I discovered this game in Ikebukuro, Shinjuku in Japan (Mikado Game Center). Someone was playing amazingly and I liked all the movement and attack options. Definitely a beat-em-up I want to practice!
So funny that Dutch, the guy played by Arnold in Predator 1987, is a playable character in this!
This game is based on the novels and comics of AvP, where 'Dutch' is a main character.
It is mandatory that this game it should have been added to the capcom arcade classic collection #2! I want it so bad myself.
This is better than the SNES Version. I have this one the MAME Emulator on PC.
Watching this just reminds me how Capcom has forgotten how to make great video Capcom you bring back the company that made these awesome arcade games we need a next-gen version of all of these old school arcade games totally revamped and reworked

This and Night Slashers will forever and always be my favorite beatemups. I always find myself booting up my cps2 emulator every couple of months just to play this.

I remember seeing this in back in ‘94 In Ft. Lauderdale. Popped 50 cent in and choose the warrior because I noticed his the hit box on his spear was at the edge 😂 it was the pinnacle of my summer in Florida. Then my aunt pulled me off the game. Smh… Damn that woman

Remember playing this so damn much. I was a Kurosawa main, but I also loved the Pred Warrior's style too. They *REALLY* have to revisit games like this and either re-release them, or make a new one. Either way, it needs to be done!
One of my favorite beatem'ups. AvP, The Simpsons, X-Men, Streets of Rage 2, Turtles in Time, Final Fight, Battle Toads, The Ninja Warriors, Captain Commando, and Golden Axe.

As long as don't carry a weapon or pregnant, I guess you're ok.OK. but the Xenos, they don't care.
The Predators hunt strong preys. Human soldiers, like Schwarzeneger and his team, drug dealers like in the second film, or Yakuza or other soldiers like Predators...
....and Aliens, because they are strong.
@@shaneh7129 Predators DO NOT hunt humans or any life form left and right. If the life form proves to be weak, the Predators will instead spare them until the victim can come back stronger.
Think of them as the Akuma (fights only worthy opponents, not worth fighting weaklings).

I'm surprised they never made a console port of this considering that the PS1 & Saturn had just been released in 1994 & 1995 at the same period.
There was plans to port it to the Sega 32X but this never happened.
@@robonaught Now that you mentioned it, I barely remember a gaming magazine saying this back in the day. Though it would have been a weird choice releasing it on the 32X, since the PS1 & Saturn were the big next-gen things and would have been the logical choices.

3:09 the characters punching the light switch to not make a different animation always made me laugh for some reason
I play this on the capcom home arcade stick and it's even better now with the 1.6 update. Capcom are now using their own emulator and added dip switches and thank god we now have scan lines to give that arcade look. I'm telling you it plays and looks beautiful and great fun in 2player, I just wish we had a few more capcom arcade greats like Cadillac's and Dinosaurs and I would love Slip Stream.
Does the capcom home arcade stick have these actual graphics because I'm very tempted to buy one now but I want to make sure the rendering is the same!
@@legionxxiii3570Yes, all the games look and play just like the arcade if not the same. Make sure you have updated it to 1.6, it has a wi fi internet connection.
I've got one it wasn't cheap but I've had hours of fun shame it doesn't have more games but avp alone sold it for me and it runs so smooth with the new updates

Powerbombing xenomorphs with the Major, spamming the OP dive-attacks with either Yautja or mid-air throwing/downward sword/kamehameha-ing Aliens with the Lieutenant was the ultimate sheet with this game!
I always thought the Major and the Lieutenant would make great FG characters.

Can someone help me emulate this? I tried mame and its not working. im not tech savvy so i dont understand how it works. it just says file missing, but the zip file is already inside the rom folder. I dont know whats wrong.
daim that art style, why is it so clean and cool looking! I was born 92 so seen allot of the games from my era but daaaiiuum dem graphics. Virtua Fighter 2 1994 looks allot better but I still like them pixel games😄. Check the fire and explosion's, tell me that wouldnt look cool in 1994

This was one of my favorite arcade games next to the xmen and TNMNT one. Never could beat it. Ran out our quarters. Later in life bought the super Nintendo game thinking it was the same game just on console. It wasn't and was much harder to beat. The big flying queen is a tough B$#@!
