For me, the one thing that Sootch's videos stand outs and is superior to other gun reviewers is that he goes into an educational depth that helps those who have never been accustomed to certain guns. Most reviewers will talk about the gun and shoot it but Sootch goes beyond that to show every detail of the firearm with great close ups and explanations. Thank you Sootch for your in depth reviews. Even though I won't purchase this weapon, I learned so much about it.
Thank you for not putting a scope or stuff on the muzzle. Thanks for showing us a beautiful gun the way it was meant to be. Another great video by Sootch and friends
I just retired from the US Army after 37 years and I’m saving for one of these babies as a retirement gift to myself!!! Great review scootch. Much appreciated.
Thank you for your service. 37 years is a long time and I seriously respect you man. enjoy your retirment. you earned it. I am active duty Navy (7 years)
I'm glad to see Ruger bringing the Marlins back. I can't wait to see how the 30-30 turns out and if they come out with a regular wood/blued model and how much that will be.
I have a 45/70 GBL and the lever gun is Simply superb!! Hard hitting round and really fun to shoot...my favorite by far...be aware enemy's, large or small critters and people of ill intended behavior...DONT TRY IT ON MY LAND....SEMPER-FI
I own the Marlin Guide Gun .45-70 govt stainless 4+1 and love this gun. I take it often when I walk with my dog in the woods to protect him and me from coyote, hog, and bear. My favorite gun for hiking because I know it will stop a train.
Stop a train you say the 45-70 will do ? You've brainwashed by these stupid and ignorant videos. If you think the 45-70 is so powerful to blow up trains, then what do you think the Winchester Model 70 in 458 Lott can do that I own ?
This rifle has lots of power ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL , hard recoil and a little heavier than expected which affects accuracy, especially when firing freehand or hunting small game. Really rough on sites, as it often moves inside mounting rings. Replaced sight with a UTG Bugbuster, which required medium height mounting rings, but improved accuracy while sighting in as shown in attached photo, at 20 yards using Gamo Match Diablo pellets at 7.56 grain. Nonetheless, I am still trying to figure out where to install the mounting rings on the scope to avoid it from sliding around, as it becomes misaligned after about 50 or 60 shots. Currently considering using heavier pellets at about 9 grain with different tips like the H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme or the Crosman Ultra Magnum to see if accuracy improves. Overall, I am having lots of fun with this rifle.
I love my Marlin lever action rifles. I have a model 336 in 30/30 Winchester and a model 1895M in 450 Marlin. That rifle kicks like a mule. Long Live The Republic Sootch00 !!!!!!!
Our Republic went bye bye about 15 years ago with the unholy alliance of the leftist colleges, media complex and democrat party merged with the alphabet agency deep state and reached critical mass to form one of the most powerful corrupt and evil states in the history of the world. We are in deep doo doo.
You must be a 90-pound wimp to think a 450 Marlin has bad recoil. Take my advice then never shot these rifles I own one being a Weatherby Mark 5 ultra-light - 300 Wby mag and a Winchester Model 70 - 458 Lott. Even the AR 10 I chambered in 375 -300 WSM would hurt you I have to presume.
I have the Marlin TK 30 that was made for K mart for 1 year in 30-30. It is an awesome little rifle that was made before Remington screwed up the Marlin Rifles
I sent my Remlin 1895 off to have the trigger and action smoothed out. Also had it cut to a take down. Out of the box, the new Trapper is already smooth shooting and the loading gate is light to load. Ruger has done an excellent job! 👏
I have a pre Remington 1895g in 45-70 with a ported barrel that I absolutely love. It's by far my favorite rifle and the ergonomics are perfect for me. I have watched many a review on the Ruger made Marlins and have yet to hear any negativity. Thank you sir for another excellent review!
I have an older JM inspected Marlin 1895 Cowboy model, and a Remington made 1895 with a 22" barrel. Both are awesome rifles, and I have zero complaints with the Remington model.
Much thanks to Ruger for saving an American classic firearm! I have several JM Marlins, and refused to even consider a Remlin. Now I’m back in the hunt for a new Marlin!! Great review as always!!
I am very proud of Ruger for buying Marlin and continuing quality Marlin firearms! Marlin is an American legacy and Ruger is continuing that Marlin legacy - proud American
Seems to me what we have here is one American legend acquiring another American legend (Ruger/Marlin), then proceeding to knock it out of the park with products that matter. The last time around, (when Remington acquired Marlin), it didn't work out nearly as well...
When I had one, I borrowed my buddy's reloading set for a night to make some birdshot for it. I used 7gr of Unique powder, slugs made with wax/birdshot wadcutter molded slug with a gascheck at the base. Was good for grouse and rabbits.
That's cool that you can finally get a Skinner Peep Sight from the factory. There's nothing wrong with a buckhorn sight. However, there are those of us who learned to shoot with peep sights & those who simply prefer them. That's a beautiful rifle. My understanding is the birdshot load was a .410 shot shell. I think that's what the .410 was originally developed for. I think you could only use the .410 shot shell in the Trapdoor Springfield. IIRC, the Army eventually sent .410 shotguns to the units stationed in the western forts...again...for foraging.
Purchased this gun a few months ago and have yet to shoot it. I had shoulder surgery a couple months ago and I’m a bit squeemish about the recoil, but I do plan to hunt with it a couple times this winter. Thank you for a fine review sir!
Sootch when I look at a Winchester or Marlin lever action rifle I am absolutely amazed by the mechanical function because it is unlike any other weapon that we've ever created. If I were lost in the wilderness it would be my first choice for survival. Because if I'm confronted by a bear I have the confidence that that gun will work and that bear will go down. But of course it's a bear walks away I'll walk away too. Out of respect for nature. I always love watching your videos Bud you've given me a lot of useful information and may God bless you and yours always!
In 2008, my late wife bought me an original Marlin Guide Gun with the 16 inch ported barrel...I'd like to see Ruger start producing lever gins in .357 and .44...
I think that the gun can be unloaded via the side loading gate instead of racking the rounds through the gun. Another nice feature. The YT channel, Target Suite, has a video on both versions of the Marlin.
I'd love to see one of these in .357, which would pair nicely with my GP100. I have no idea if that fits with Ruger's plans at all, but what a great combo that would be.
Thanks for a great review of this awesome brush gun! Very informative. You've produced some great shooting footage, especially that of Robbie the lefty easily and expertly firing the rifle and operating the lever action. Nicely done all around.
Scootch, I just purchased a trapper yesterday. Correction: There is no scope mount. What your pointing to is the mount that the Skinner sight is mounted on. I guess If I am going to mount a scope or dot sight, I will have to purchase a system that allows for it. Please let your fans know this. Regards Abe
I've been researching this gun the last few days and I was watching your 45-70 all weather video when I got this notification. It's like you read my mind lol
If I recall: this is used by many Alaska hunting guides. When your "Client" just wounds a big bear and you need to get into the thickets to put it down! Obviously not everyone's cup of tea. But it will certainly do the job. It's also used on big Moose in the brush too!
I bought a 444ss back in '90. I think that era was the pinnacle of marlin. nice blue and polished steel. Lots of deer taken with it. It is hard on the shoulder though.
Long ago I passed in a Marlin 336 in 444 in a Pawn shop for $100 and I still remember it. I'm not a fan of these lever guns even though I own 2 Marlin 336 in 30-30 and 35 Rem, I just don't see much in using them here in the west side of the Pacific NW being extreme under gunned using them.
I loved Marlin rifles before Remington ruined them. I have a Remington made 336 in 30-30, and I got lucky because it's not a bad gun. My first Marlin, though, was a 30AW in 30-30 I got back in the 80's. It was a tack driver at 100 yards. I sold it and the rest of my guns when I got orders to England in 1996 because I couldn't take them with me, and I regret that very much. I've always been interested in the 45-70, so this looks like something I could possibly look at in the future.
I too have a remlin 336 in 30-30. Bought it at walmart for 350 dollars. I decoded it, manufactured in 2016. Bought in 2019 Quality is pretty darn good.
Got me one at msrp price 1349. on a website called BET armory.. about month ago. Thanks again for another awesome video. Just checked as of 7-20-22 they still have them in stock for that price..
@Daniel Nelson yeah. I always keep an eye out... there's a website called gun deals.. if you type in the model name and number you'll see the website. It's good because they give you prices from all vendors and current stock levels.

Looks like it shot very well. You don't say how far. All you have to do is adjust the rear sight to get the bullets hitting the center of that target. I'd take it.
I watched this on Don's Patreon feed. Awesome gun! The prices are all over the place, tho. I've seen as high as $2500 and as low as $1200, so you really gotta do your research.
Enjoyed watching and learning. Chuckled at Robbie hunting for that trigger in the beginning. A lever action, Well, you gotta have some rhythm for the process.
Please apply your influence to convince rifle manufacturers to build similar rifles as this chambered in 357 Maximum. Such a rifle would have four season usefulness and the ability to chamber 38 Colt, 38 S&W Special, 357 Magnum and, of course 357 Maximum cartridges providing exceptional versatility.
Great video! Hehe, I'd guess you spent at least 100 bucks in ammo on that shooting intro! Fun fact, 45 acp is .452 dia 45-70 is .458, not the same caliber.
i have the Henry all weather stainless 45-70 and recently purchased the Rugar-Marlin 45-70 Trapper, got to say that the Henry has a softer-smoother action,New Marlin might just need some break in. Both are great guns, can’t go wrong with either
I picked up a 1895 Trapper a couple of weeks ago for $1229.95! I was very excited about the price since most are listed for $1600+. I have a Remington made Marlin 1895 SBL that has never fed smoothly. Do you know if Ruger will work on the Remington made Marlins?

Yeah, No one wants the CB safety And No need for a threaded barrel on a carbine length rifle.
You can also upload the cartridges from the loading gate. It is designed with that in mind.

Such a rifle would have four season usefulness and the ability to chamber 38 Colt, 38 S&W Special, 357 Magnum and, of course 357 Maximum cartridges providing exceptional versatility.
I keep saying i dont need to spend more money on guns but im continually convinced i need to buy more
Great video! Hehe, I'd guess you spent at least 100 bucks in ammo on that shooting intro! Fun fact, 45 acp is .452 dia 45-70 is .458, not the same caliber.
It would be great to see a comparison between this rifle and the Henry model H010GAW .45-70 Govt Lever Action side gate.
i have the Henry all weather stainless 45-70 and recently purchased the Rugar-Marlin 45-70 Trapper, got to say that the Henry has a softer-smoother action,New Marlin might just need some break in.
Where'd you find it for that price of you don't mind me asking?

@@w2fcp oh fine! Easy peasy. ;-)

@@w2fcp oh man im in NY too
Powefull and beautiful!
Great review as always !!!
Love this rifle. Got the SBL & Trapper 🥰🥰
Marlin made the first lever action 45-70 in 1881, 5 years before Winchester did.
I don’t have no Marlins oh I have is Winchester 1886. I really enjoyed Shootin them. I have one extra light I had the barrel shortened to 16 5/8
Is it just the lighting, or does the front of the receiver at 4:58 look speckled or pitted?
A Ruger version of the Marlin .450 would be interesting, so would a .375 Winchester clambering, which Marlin did and the 35. Remington.
Haven’t been able to find any for sale
Si, great content as always!
I really want one of these or the other variant (SBL maybe?) for some reason! Have no use for one but I must have one!
