Korn mostly has songs about coping with emotional struggles. Jonathan's lyrics are amazing. They all do a fantastic job of translating emotions into music. This band got me through some extremely tough times in the 90s while I was in school. Just made you not feel so alone. They will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for checking them out. If people want you to react to Daddy...don't do it. It's too intense for a lot of people. Otherwise all their other songs are good to go.

I would say Korn was one of the initial pioneers for Nu-metal that was followed up closely by Slipknot. You could lay some influence to Sepultura, but that was a more tribal metal, but it was their progression from thrash to the tribalistic metal that seems like the precursor to Korn and thus leading into Slipknot. Korn is my hometown band and my very first concert at 16 years old! It was Korn's '𝙎𝙞𝙘𝙠 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙' tour with Papa Roach, Powerman 5000 and it was incredible!! I really hope you check out more from these groups or else you're missing out. Please react to '𝙁𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙈𝙚' by Korn. @@killermiller1980 It was 2000 when I saw Powerman perform.. don't know if they're still doing anything? When I started hearing these groups on the classic rock station.. I couldn't believe how fast time flies by! So it's great watching all the young reactors get introduced to these incredible artists.
Hey Teddy. I felt exactly the same when you said, "I wish I found this music years ago." I didn't get into metal/alternative music until i was 22, and I really wish I'd had it in my life earlier than that!
If you do that, dig further. The rabbit hole is deep. This music hits for a reason, they are sellin' us tunes to subvert by controlling the narrative from way back. Horrible.
Exactly. They are completely unique and I think that's the reason they really stood out when they first made it big. Nobody else could even come close to their sound.
100% some bands and artists get lumped into genres they are ALMOST like, but they have a uniqueness that sets them apart from anyone else in that genre, or any other you could label them as, making them instantly recognisable. KoRn is one for sure, and Deftones is another, and possibly a good option for Teddy to react to next
Listen to “love and death” and you see where KoЯn went when Head was gone. Yes Fieldy on bass is something else but the fun crazy sounds and rhythm dancing comes from Head. If that makes sense.
"It's so easy to skip through what you dont like these days... like nobody cares anymore!" ...Wow dude. You exude real emotions and you're amazing at putting it into words in almost philosophical ways. My favourite reactions on all of UA-cam. Cheers from Ontario, Canada bro!
what's funny is the message came through to you as touching and too real, then as you excepted and spoke on the matter you let go of its potency and started vibing heavy with the composition and wackiness they created. this is in my opinion what this type of music is for, it reminds you of how real life is while also reminding you to not take it all so seriously 😊
It may remind you of bad times, but it also makes you realize you got through it. It has the ability to make you feel strong. Resilient. I love metal for that.
It also lets you know that you are not alone. We all feel like the shit we are going through, no one else understands. Bands like Korn, such huge people, who you'd think could have no problems in life, are letting you know they have issues too. They've been there too. They got through it, (or are handling it) so you can too.
This song was about Jonathan saying the industry and everything taking everything from him. And his beatboxing and breathing reminds me of Native American throat singing. The “Go” part is wild. I had this cd when it came it and I will never get sick of korn at 36 years old.
_Falling Away From Me_ also known as one of the most fucked up stuff you will ever try to play on drums. The beat will break you, eat you and spit you out. But god damn, what a song!!
Now imagine being a teenager in the 90's when this dropped ! The 90's were hands down the best time to be a teenager and of my life !Enjoy the journey ,I'm here for it ..
High School, 1999, on the bus existing as a misfit. Staring out the window. My headphones cranked up. Listening to Johnathan’s voice belt out and cry, feeling the mutual exchange of pain, emotions. An artists voice echoing through time, I still find the therapy I need. Watching a younger generation groove and feel the blistered love, gives me a sense of wholeness.
I was blessed to be able to see Korn perform at the music festival Louder than Life in 2021. Jonathan Davis had recently fought off Covid and was still weak from the virus. They had a throne built for him to sit in on stage lol. This man gave everything he had to that performance, and when he got tired, he would take hits of oxygen from a tank behind the throne and then sit and rock out for a while. What really impressed me is that he sounded EXACTLY THE SAME. You could not tell that he was feeling less than 100%. When he sat to sing, he was still just as engaged and entertaining. And he even played his famous bagpipes! I was blown away. It's never too late to find this music! If you'd like to do some more Korn, I suggest Here to Stay (another one about fighting with your own mind), Thoughtless, Coming Undone, Twisted Transistor, or Got the Life. Those are faves of mine.
I have tickets on their concert 2024 but i can't be there 😭😭😭 i feel worse when i read something like your comment, wish i will be able to see them at least once in my life ;)
I've watched many people react to this song and not given them a second thought. I'll think about yours for quite a while. Your honest reaction as you sought to understand was very insightful and had layers of depth I was not expecting in a random reaction video.. much less from a man of your younger ears. Kudos. It spoke very well for you.
My requests: Staind, Three days grace, bullet for my Valentine, Halestorm, Papa Roach, Alice and Chains, and Seether… so many good bands to choose from!!!
When you see Korn live and gets to the skat/beat box part, when Jonathan screams GO! The mosh pit would go fucking crazy. Jumping, screaming, hands in the air....it's amazing to experience.
Metalhead here. When they completely change the tempo and chords and sometimes the instruments, it is called a breakdown. Some bands like MyChildren MyBride and Norma Jean are known for breakdowns
Also: there is a duet version of this song with Amy Lee of Evanescence. She and Jonathan Davis bring so much emotion and style to their singing - in _radically_ different ways - and the contrast of their voices is so cool. Even if you don't react to it, you enjoy both of them too much not to check it out (#MrKorn)
What I will say is many of us who grew up listening to this music (90s-early 00s) it helped pull us out of those dark places by bringing what we were feeling and giving it a voice and an outlet. You dont have to go back to those feelings with grief now you can go back to those and appreciate you overcoming those feelings
It's so cool to see you not know what was coming and it moved you. A lot of people feel this way when they hear Korn the first time I was 18 when I first heard them when they were getting known. Amazing band
Still one of the best MVs. Bullet tears straight through everything, gets to them and it _can't get to them_ bc of the music - and GO! It's a straight line again, but it's missing e v e r y t h i n g. If that isn't a representation of every single comment section on reactions to Korn, to Linkin Park, to so many songs of this era, about how it saved them, made them feel seen or less alone or more able to cope, then I don't know what is. (#MrKorn)
When I heard Blind on the radio for the first time I was just dumbfounded by their sound and was instantly hooked. There has been a Korn cd in my cars cd player for the last 29-30 years now.
I consider this KoRn’s all-around masterpiece. I know it’s their most popular song, so it’s a very obvious choice. But after being a fan since the late ‘90s, and adding album after album of theirs to my music collection, that’s how I feel. I also feel like they threw in tons of different elements to the mix. Hip-hop touches, groove, guitar effects, heavy riffing, and last but never least the scatting section on the buildup. Nobody sees that coming. I really remember that time well, having just moved out on my own- guess I’m old. But back then songs like this were different and exciting to hear at people’s houses, parties, and on the radio. And now I realize the strength of this music is why people are still checking it out today.
I was in my 20’s when this came out. I’d been into alternative music since high school, but nothing really heavy. When I heard Korn and Lincoln Park for the first time I was blown away. I realized this was what I had been missing all my life. I know a lot of people clown on Nu Metal, but I loved it. Korn especially was what got me into heavier music, and I’ve never looked back.
What he is doing is called Scat, he isn’t saying much making noises. The Genre was ahead of its time. Nu Metal. They have a lot of great songs, just don’t listen to Daddy if you don’t want to be turned off by them. Loved the Korn album self titled. Ball younger, shoots and ladder etc. was what I listened to most as a kid
That was actually the song that introduced me to metal 15 to 20 years ago I think. Before that I only listened to hiphop and rap like Eminem and Co. But after that I wasn't the same. Since then I opened up to all kinds of music. And it was a great ride and I'm always happy when I discover something new.
I got here by accident. Saw your SOAD reaction and thought you have a lot of positive energy, but here, when you said about vocalist not taking a bullet, which destroyed everything and deflecting it I realized you are one of the most understanding reactors out there. You get the art and poetry of the music and you react to both the lyrics and the meaning of the video (I thought about that a lot, how a lot of people miss the sense of Rammstein music, for example, if they are not watching the video). Great video, great reaction and analysis.
The bass player (Feildy) was big into hip hop at at the time so was Jonathon Davis. The “nu rock” was a hip hop metal fusion that brought max energy to concerts and was exciting at the time, then is was corporatized like everything else in the music industry.
I highly recommend checking out P.O.D. For their song Youth of the Nation. The song was released 30 years ago, but the content lyrics are so applicable to what goes on today. It’s also put into the that Nü Metal era of music, where it has a really poignant rap and chill rock sound
11:00 resonated, man. Again, your reactions are so genuine and hearing how you feel the music you’re listening to, you really go in with your ears open. It’s dope, man.
13:05 THAT part is called a "heavy scat", it´s basically the same as a scat on jazz (i might be wrong on this one) but in metal haha, jonathan davies (the vocalist) created that for this song, now he used it on other songs, sooooo, you should check this 4 songs with a heavy scat, besides freak on a leash: 5.twist (this one is just 50 seconds so maybe just to listen alone, not a reaction) 4. seed 3. Rotting in vain 2. worst is on its way 1. BBK EDIT: you should also check falling away from me (the part of this video), fake, and well a lot more.
My friend..you've got a beautiful mind! The world is sometimes cruel to those who are not "average ". Don't worry about it too much, bro. There are the rare few who appreciate you, and these are your friends 😁
Quarter of a century later, and this MF right here makes me realize things about the song and specially the video that I didn't perceive ALL THIS TIME. Excellent work. And singer's name is Jonathan Davis. This came out in mid 90s and they are the fathers of Nu Metal, which in turn influenced Linkin Park, Disturbed and more
This video really shows why I absolutely love seeing rap artists/fans listen to new music. The music of Korn was something I listened to myself a lot during some of the worst points in my life. I've lost far too much and it was through Korn that I was able to push through it and keep on going, because with enough work you will always be able to reach a point that you can be happy.
I appreciate your analysis, you were so spot on with things and I love seeing people listen to KoЯn for the first time and appreciate how 'weird' they are. Jonathan's lyrics have gotten me through so many hard times that I've lost count.
It's always funny to see voice coaches YT Channals change their minds on what singing is after they listen to JOHNNY CASH, KORN, TOOL, RAGE AGAINST THE MINCHA, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, and artists like those "Hold My Beer" Watch what you can do with cadence, soul, and FEELINGS to voice coaches. This video in 1999 was an MTV Music Video Award winner.
Mate, welcome to Nu Metal. These are guys that grew up with metal and rock and as teens were opened to hiphop and so they clash and made this glorious mix. The best examples of this are prolly Limp Bizkit who did tracks with Method Man. Or try Anthrax with Public Enemy. The coralation between hip hop and rock is insane. In the 90’s there was a film called “Judgement Night” the entire soundtrack is hiphop/rock/metal collabs
@teddy - You should react to Korn - Blind. There's a music video for it. Here's what you gotta understand about the song Blind: Before this, the metal that most people knew was stuff like Guns 'N Roses, Slayer - "hair band" stuff. Then Korn comes out, and Blind is the FIRST SONG off their FIRST ALBUM - and no one had ever heard anything like it! It blew people away, it was so utterly new. The experience of putting that tape in, and the first thing you hear is so completely foreign from anything else that anyone else was doing - it was seriously a revolution.
This was an exceptional reaction! I appreciate both the depth you went into to try and break down the video, lyrics, and beats, while also respecting the raw emotions you felt hearing this. I enjoyed the flip from the way you felt before the scatboxing, to afterwards =D
Korn were actually the band that got me into hiphop. Got the life is the banger! The guitarist from suicide silence said that it was still one of the heaviest riffs and i agree
".... he said no in Kilgon." That has to be the funniest shit I have ever heard to describe that moment of the multi award winning music video for the multi platinum album from a 90's metal pioneer band. Thank you for that laugh, and the many me and my stone ass had after that.
With reflections comes growth. You can’t truly realize where you are in your life without remembering how it used to be. Good or bad. Just keep working towards getting better and being happier.
People called you unattractive as a child??? To your face??? 1. RUDE 2. You're quite handsome. Those people can go to... wherever you want to beatbox them to. 😛Love your response to this song and video. I always enjoy your analysis in all your reactions. Beatboxing in Klingon... 😂 Gonna be repeating that to everyone! Never heard it described better. #MrKorn 😆
I understand how you stayed away from music like this to avoid feeling this way, for some of us this music was an outlet to let out those same emotions in safe place and feeling that we were not alone. And everyone has their own way to cope and process emotions.
It takes me back to being a teenager, and with all the things in my life and the anger that was inside. I had no where for it to go, no way to express it, and then this song came out and it was everything I was feeling and even better it was a way to release the energy constructively. Its awesome watching others find this music and enjoy it as well! Peace, Love, and Rock n Roll
I’m a new fan and love your videos! I love how open you are and show your emotions. I love that you’re open to new music and experiences. As someone who is also autistic and have trauma, I love how you talk about either forgetting or repressing your trauma or should you come to terms with it as I’m going through the same journey. @@killermiller1980 It was 2000 when I saw Powerman perform.. don't know if they're still doing anything? When I started hearing these groups on the classic rock station.. I couldn't believe how fast time flies by! So it's great watching all the young reactors get introduced to these incredible artists.
Power man 5000!!!!!!!
Falling away from me is from the Issues album bro
15:45 the word is fuck, lyric as written is: “a cheap fuck for me to lay” refering to the singer’s love interest in a derogitory way
This is nu metal you like. If you ever check out other metal genres the feeling is completely different
Hey Teddy. I felt exactly the same when you said, "I wish I found this music years ago." I didn't get into metal/alternative music until i was 22, and I really wish I'd had it in my life earlier than that!
I am one of the lucky people who voted for this. Let’s see what happens
Read into Johnathan’s childhood and you’ll realise why his lyrics are the way they are 💔
If you do that, dig further.
The rabbit hole is deep. This music hits for a reason, they are sellin' us tunes to subvert by controlling the narrative from way back. Horrible.
WOW ive known korn and loved their music for like over a decade now and i havent ever actually looked into the lore behind the band.
Yeah and hearing daddy is painfull even more when you know it.
@@arkiesch4540that one has me crying every time
Fieldy is an amazing bassist. Head and Monkey (lead and main guitar) balance the backflow in such a unique way. No one can be Korn.
Exactly. They are completely unique and I think that's the reason they really stood out when they first made it big. Nobody else could even come close to their sound.
Dammit straight "nobody can be Korn" never was, never will be again..❤
How loose were those strings lol
100% some bands and artists get lumped into genres they are ALMOST like, but they have a uniqueness that sets them apart from anyone else in that genre, or any other you could label them as, making them instantly recognisable. KoRn is one for sure, and Deftones is another, and possibly a good option for Teddy to react to next
Listen to “love and death” and you see where KoЯn went when Head was gone. Yes Fieldy on bass is something else but the fun crazy sounds and rhythm dancing comes from Head. If that makes sense.
"Cant I take away all this pain? I try to every night all in vein(vain), in vain(vein)" Never caught that line before but holy shit bars
22:35 his name is indeed Jonathan
Now you have to listen Falling away from me! Connected with this video directly!!!! Love Korn!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
100000000% agree
_Falling Away From Me_ also known as one of the most fucked up stuff you will ever try to play on drums. The beat will break you, eat you and spit you out. But god damn, what a song!!
For me the best thing about this music is: I know I'm not alone. And that in itself is soothing to know. Almost a relief.
Yes!! Korn finally lol 😆 thanks for this teddy!! Please do more korn!!
Do not do Daddy. Trigger warning yo.
@@zippymacadoo6336Agreed! Reactors almost get "dared" to add Daddy to their lists. It's not advisable.
@zippymacadoo6336 yeah Daddy is a bad one, been a korn fan since I was 14 now 37 and only listened to that track once! 😭
Exactly I came to day the same thing...love korn though
I think he likes the chugga chuggs!!
If you’re gonna mention the bagpipes, you also need to recommend Shoots and Ladders.
I have tickets on their concert 2024 but i can't be there 😭😭😭 i feel worse when i read something like your comment, wish i will be able to see them at least once in my life ;)
The drop all these decades later still gives me goosebumps...Damn I love Korn! Would like to see you react to some Deftones!!
'Is that Matilda?!' lol 😂
ua-cam.com/video/IGMabBGydC0/v-deo.htmlsi=_0ysv4FzNaMo85mk
I've watched many people react to this song and not given them a second thought. I'll think about yours for quite a while. Your honest reaction as you sought to understand was very insightful and had layers of depth I was not expecting in a random reaction video.. much less from a man of your younger ears. Kudos. It spoke very well for you.
My requests: Staind, Three days grace, bullet for my Valentine, Halestorm, Papa Roach, Alice and Chains, and Seether… so many good bands to choose from!!!
He says "a cheap f*ck for me to lay" and you will love doing more Korn. Like Falling Away from Me, Coming Undone or Twisted Transistor.
That's the fun thing about the whole nu metal/ crossover stuff, it tears you down and builds you up at the same time 😅
When you see Korn live and gets to the skat/beat box part, when Jonathan screams GO! The mosh pit would go fucking crazy. Jumping, screaming, hands in the air....it's amazing to experience.
You need to see a live performance where he opens playing bagpipes...it's so sick!!
Metalhead here. When they completely change the tempo and chords and sometimes the instruments, it is called a breakdown. Some bands like MyChildren MyBride and Norma Jean are known for breakdowns
Jonathan Davis is his name. He usually performed in a kilt, plays the bagpipes, and does an amazing cover of the song Lowrider.
Head does the vocal on lowrider
😮 Lowrider? Woah
Shoots and ladders, it's one hell of a song and so underrated
Also: there is a duet version of this song with Amy Lee of Evanescence. She and Jonathan Davis bring so much emotion and style to their singing - in _radically_ different ways - and the contrast of their voices is so cool. Even if you don't react to it, you enjoy both of them too much not to check it out (#MrKorn)
I actually sang this version at my vocal recital with a friend of mine. I sang it right after an opera aria, and the audience was so confused lol
What I will say is many of us who grew up listening to this music (90s-early 00s) it helped pull us out of those dark places by bringing what we were feeling and giving it a voice and an outlet. You dont have to go back to those feelings with grief now you can go back to those and appreciate you overcoming those feelings
lmfao your reaction to the breakdown (beatboxing) made me subscribe 🤣 & the minga-boo thing had me crying 🤣😭
thats autism for you 😭😂 thank you man I appreciate it haha
Korn has a song called *somebody someone*. It's fantastic. The music completely changes roughly 4 times throughout that song. It's sooo good.
One of the best bands you’ll ever see live!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤟🏻
(#MrKorn)
One of my favorite music videos ever!
When I heard Blind on the radio for the first time I was just dumbfounded by their sound and was instantly hooked. There has been a Korn cd in my cars cd player for the last 29-30 years now.
This brings me back to being a teenager. Korn was a huge part of those years ❤
I consider this KoRn’s all-around masterpiece.
Oh and SOAD, I almost forgot them!
What a throwback! Me and my sister lived and breathed Korn in our younger days 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
The whole point of rock is to acknowledge the feelings you don't like confronting and know you're not alone.
Teddy: “Idk who’s weirder: this guy or…what’s his name?”
Me: “Serj.”
11:00 resonated, man. Again, your reactions are so genuine and hearing how you feel the music you’re listening to, you really go in with your ears open. It’s dope, man.
You called it when picking his name - John and David (Jonathan Davis)
13:05 THAT part is called a "heavy scat", it´s basically the same as a scat on jazz (i might be wrong on this one) but in metal haha, jonathan davies (the vocalist) created that for this song, now he used it on other songs, sooooo, you should check this 4 songs with a heavy scat, besides freak on a leash:
5.twist (this one is just 50 seconds so maybe just to listen alone, not a reaction)
4. seed
3. Rotting in vain
2. worst is on its way
1. BBK
EDIT: you should also check falling away from me (the part of this video), fake, and well a lot more.
My friend..you've got a beautiful mind! The world is sometimes cruel to those who are not "average ". Don't worry about it too much, bro. There are the rare few who appreciate you, and these are your friends 😁
Yes people do care! Loved Korn growing up. Saw them live so many times. Family Values. 🖤
"he said NO in klingon" is one of the best comment i've heard on this song
❤Korn❤ God I wouldn’t change my childhood for NOTHING. 😁 This song in concert- AMAZING!!
Listen to Korn "So you wanna single" . I lose my voice to that. 😂
Lol Korn was my jam back in the 90s. To this day I still get chills every time it gets to the bridge and shit goes crazy when he screams "Go!"
To anyone thinking about recommending... You know what... Don't.
All in the family??😊
Johnathan Davis has a pet brand named “Freak on a Leash”. Genius! I actually met him at Aftershock in 2022 launching the brand. Seems like a cool guy.
Korn - Twisted Transistor (Full Version)
hilarious spinal tap style . Really defines the era (A,D.I.D.A.S. Rock)
Mr KORN Mr KORN Mr KORN
Korn were actually the band that got me into hiphop. Got the life is the banger! The guitarist from suicide silence said that it was still one of the heaviest riffs and i agree
Teddy’s a nu-metal fan and I’m here for it ❤
".... he said no in Kilgon."
That has to be the funniest shit I have ever heard to describe that moment of the multi award winning music video for the multi platinum album from a 90's metal pioneer band.
Thank you for that laugh, and the many me and my stone ass had after that.
With reflections comes growth. You can’t truly realize where you are in your life without remembering how it used to be. Good or bad. Just keep working towards getting better and being happier.
"I just really wish that I'd have found this music years ago..."
I feel you man. I felt the exct same way.
#MrKorn 😆
I adore how long he is spending talking about the beatboxing/beat drop! I love this dude!
I understand how you stayed away from music like this to avoid feeling this way, for some of us this music was an outlet to let out those same emotions in safe place and feeling that we were not alone. And everyone has their own way to cope and process emotions.
I was 11 years old when this came out and still one of the most amazing songs and there are people out there that care
The lead singer of Jonathan davis, also plays the bagpipes. You should do shoots and Ladders next
He said „no“ in clingone 😂
I’m a new fan and love your videos! I love how open you are and show your emotions. I love that you’re open to new music and experiences. As someone who is also autistic and have trauma, I love how you talk about either forgetting or repressing your trauma or should you come to terms with it as I’m going through the same journey. Thank you!
