Just got one of these bad boys today at Guitar Center, I absolutely love it! It looks fantastic, it plays super smooth and fast, and that juicy tone is sweet, thanks for the review!
I’m jealous! My CR-6 doesn’t have as much blue. However, in addition to a serial number, the guitar’s face is like a fingerprint. A photo can positively identify it as no two are alike!
I used to prefer neck-through guitars and basses, until about 10 years ago. That Summer I built a beautiful guitar for one of my repeat customers, and he was so thrilled with it he decided to use the guitar for a show he was playing the very next weekend. The show was a little more rowdy than he thought it would be, and when the headliner took the stage, they asked to borrow a guitar, to replace one which was having recurrent "technical problems," (they, of course, ask to borrow the brand-new,, $4,500 custom, hand-built guitar). About halfway through that show the guitar player tripped over his other intoxicated left foot, and fell face-first off the front of the stage. Obviously, this is not something that is going to help the condition of any instrument. He had to land pretty hard, because the 3 piece-neck cracked and actually broke just behind the Volute in the thinnest part of the neck. I was at that show, and immediately rushed up to the front of the stage. Seeing that guitar fall off the stage was like seeing a lifelong friend, or family member, fall off that stage. My friend was extremely upset, and distraught, over the damage done to what he told me was his dream guitar. I felt terrible for him. Seeing that happen right before me convinced me to take a closer look at bolt-on neck construction. Because if that was a bolt-on neck, I could have easily replaced the neck and repaired the guitar the very next day (or even later that same night). But as it was a neck-through guitar,, with a very uneven and jagged breakage of the neck, that would never be called a "clean break," I could not be confident that it was going to be a structurally sound, or aesthetically pleasing, repair. We ended up working out a deal that worked for both of us, and he has since been through the custom guitar build process twice more in the years since this happened. A well-built bolt-on construction guitar, or bass, will sound just as good, or better, than a set neck or a through neck instrument. That's debatable for another time and place, but that it is my view based on my playing experience of about 32 years of playing guitar and 30 years of playing bass.. Some of the things I prefer about bolt-on construction is that 1) in the case of damage to the neck, head stock, or fretboard, the neck can be easily replaced. 2) the neck, in the event that the customer would like to change the fretboard material, or the inlaydesign, or the headstock design, or the woods that make up the multi-laminate neck,, again, that can be easily replaced ( all of the guitars and basses that we build have multi-laminate necks, consisting of usually 5 pieces or more,, however, we will occasionally use three or four piece, if the customer has a strong preference). 3) It is also easier to perform most maintenance tasks on bolt-on neck instruments. 4, A bolt-on neck, though I've never had to resort to it on one of my custom builds, can be shimmed to create the proper neck angle for the best possible set-up of the guitar or bass.
One isn’t really “better” than the other, they just have different features. Assuming you’re looking at the $699 Reaper 6 because it’s the same price as the CR-6, basically it’s a question of whether you’d rather have an ash or mahogany body, Schecter Decimator or Apocalypse pickups, and set-neck or bolt-on construction. Those are all the differences. The more expensive versions of the Reaper 6 add a Floyd Rose and eventually a Sustainiac in the neck, but if you’re willing to spend that much money then I’d suggest checking out the Banshee, the C-1 Elite, or the new C-1 Silver Mountain that just came out this year.
Absolutely stunning guitar and very detailed review! How would you compare the CR-6 to something similarly priced guitars like a Pro Series Jackson Dinky DK2 or an Ibanez RGAT62 RGA series
There was a time that I would have told you not to even bother with the Jackson guitars if it isn’t made in either the U.S., Japan, or one of the older Korean models. When Fender first started having Jacksons produced in India, Indonesia, and Mexico, I was not impressed with any of them. They seemed to be riddled with quality issues, or they came with cheap electronics, or something like that. However, those factories apparently have been at it long enough now that I understand they’ve turned the corner from those initial growing pains and are now producing great quality instruments. Long story short, all three companies make really good guitars in the $700 price range, so it’s just a matter of picking the one that’s right for you. I’m a thin neck guy, so the SLS neck profile on this guitar was one of the primary reasons why I bought it. I was already used to that neck shape from playing my SLS Blackjack for so long, and I wanted another dual humbucker guitar with coil-splitting capabilities, but this time without a Floyd Rose tremolo and I actually wanted a bolt-on neck this time. So the CR-6 fit the bill for me.
Smashes the dinky haha played them both the same day back to back to compare ......cr6 is truly a special guitar brother ......plays so easily the price doesn't make since lol it's cheap for what it delivers
Now I know that you are a brother from another mother. The music you like to the color of that beautiful guitar. I really just ran across you by accident but so glad I did! I watched a couple videos and your brutal honesty had me saying this is a guy who I could hang out with LOL I will do whatever I can to support you and your channel
Beginner here interested in this guitar. How would you lower the action or string height on a guitar like this? I don't see any screws near the bridge to raise or lower it.
You typically raise or lower the action from the truss rod adjustment at the headstock, rather than the bridge. Tighten or loosen the truss rod until the neck is straight and your pretty much set. There’s a little bit of adjustability at the bridge with the string saddles, but where mine were set from the factory is just fine.

I bought one this past summer and I'm never parting with it for anything; not even an identical CR-6.
That exact guitar is at a local pawn shop for...I think $250. Maybe $200. It's matte black, gorgeous! I might have the color mixed up with another, but it was definitely a Schecter. I wanted it but didn't have the funds. Should I bite the bullet and go get it? I'm a beginner... would it matter? Could I tell the difference? Thank you:)
I bought my Aquaburst CR-6 this past summer and I'm never parting with it for anything... not even an identical CR-6. Glad to see you're on the bandwagon too Robert. Song's boss BTW 🤘
@@RobertWJackson You got it. I'm gonna use my CR-6 on my cover of Trans Siberian Orchestra's _Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24_ this year. Stay tuned for that!
Its definitely a beauty, I said before I always love burl tops. It also has all my favorite specs, Mahogany Body, Maple Neck and Rose wood or Ebony fingerboard. That's the perfect combo for me. Also noticed, please correct me if I am wrong but that has 5 bolts on the neck instead of the normal 4. It looked like it when you held it up.
Ok my best troll comment I can think of. Maybe I will make know your troll. Darn you Robert, don't you know some of your viewer have gear aquisition syndrome. Now you got me thinking about buying this. Hate you, hate you, hate you. Just kidding. Yeah sorry about as troll as get. But seriously mad at you. You got me thinking about this guitar. But I just seriously traded off my Schecter apocalypse May or June. Now I want another. Yeah seriously gonna go grab my Ibanez j custum and try not to think about a new Schecter
DAMN im not a big schecter fan but that guitar looks BAD ASS. that color is the bomb. GC and MF both show $699. I suspect if you call them they would not have a problem knocking $100 or so off though. They need to sell guitars
Just got the notification, can't wait to see that beauty in action! Edit: Cr-6 is a great Schecter guitar and its splittable pick ups gives you a wide tone variety. Isn't it great finding good instruments at reasonable price, today? For instance I bought a second hand Schecter only for 250 Euros and it is one of my favourite guitars. Btw Great Track, it rocks! Thanks for this video, Rob. Cheers.
Love that guitar! But why does it seen like Floyd Roses are being demonized Especially by UA-camrs? I find it kinda lazy! Great vid keep on keeping on🎸
It's stunning!
Nice playing!! Great review!!

Aqua!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Robert Thank you I enjoyed the track and demo.

great track dude
Thanks man!
Schecter built their name with pickups way back in the day.
Correct! They started out as a parts company.
Very nice Sir
Thanks!

Hopefully they cleared up problems with electronics. Might need to soldering iron, pots & a switch.
Just pulled the trigger on this guitar in aquaburst. I think it will be a very good guitar
Nice! Congrats!
Does this guitar need a 9 volt battery?................Thanks
Nope. All passive electronics.
Thanks Robert.

I have the charcoal CR-6. Absolutely LOVE this guitar!! Beautiful and functional!! Good review Robert.

Nice!

I recently had a Schecter Omen, and like this one, it was on the bright-sounding side…why?
Probably something to do with your pedals, amp, or speakers.

Isn't that C-6? Where did the R come from
CR-6 Electric Guitar: smart.link/9wlw0d6aupx7o?producturl=/Schecter-Guitar-Research/CR-6-Electric-Guitar.gc

That’s a helluva deal dude.

I wonder if they make that model with no fret markers. I would buy it
I don’t believe so. This is a fairly new model for Schecter, so there’s not an older generation or anything like that.
