This looks like it will be great, must see! There is a good book about Norway in WW II called "THE SHETLAND BUS" Tells the story of fishermen in small boats going between Norway and the Shetland Islands with refugees and returning with spies.
Lord Philip Noel-Baker said after the war that "The first great defeat for Hitler was the battle of Britain. It was a turning point in history. If we had not had the Norwegian fleet of tankers on our side, we should not have had the aviation spirit to put our Hawker Hurricanes and our Spitfires into the sky. Without the Norwegian merchant fleet, Britain and the allies would have lost the war." Unfortunately the Norwegian war sailors suffered great injustice from the Norwegian government after the war, one that a dear friend of my family fought his whole life to overcome. For whatever reason, it took many years for the Norwegian government to properly acknowledge the sacrifice these brave, young people. I have yet to see the Netflix show, but thank you for highlighting their story.
It's available to stream on netflix now as a three episode series, they included some extra scenes that didn't make it in the movie. It's not as action packed as the trailer makes it out to be, it's slow paced and focused on the emotional side of things. It's good, but if one expects an action movie it can be a let down. I think it's worth a watch, and it's a part of history that very few people know about.
Also glad this film is getting international recognition. The merchant sailors were the unsung heroes of WWII, and Norwegian sailors never got the praise they deserved. Being a sailor was pretty low on the societal ladder in Norway throughout history, and the merchant sailors were pretty much forgotten about. The government didn't even want to pay them and they had to fight for decades to receive a fraction of the pay they were promised. It's a national disgrace that's only now starting to get talked about in earnest.
They couldn't stop to pick up men that went overboard when they were under attack. If they stopped they would be sitting ducks and put the whole boat and crew in even bigger danger.
Try 'The Shadow in My Eye' about how the RAF bobmbed civliians in Copenhagen. Always the same, like today where Uk is trying engage in fullscale nuclear war with Russia everytime they get too much Brandy... *sigh*

My great grandfather was one of those people!
Thanks sounds great.
It's outstanding. War is not a video game.

Looks very promising, like a Das Boot from the merchantmens' perspective. Planning to watch it next week here in Norway.

You should watch Number 24, a movie about norwegians saboteurs under WW2.
Thanks I’ll check it out

MI-6 till this day still sit onboad on Norwegian radio and TV controlling every single words entering the airwaves... it's sickening.
