    Another nice job, Brian. I was confused initially because I have the "Virtual Device Creator" smartapp in my new SmartThings app and couldn't figure out where it came from. Then you explained it. I use a number of virtual switches and devices so I must have created one in the old app. Do a video on the "Echo Speaks" Smartapp. A lot of folks might find that interesting.

    Great and informative video!!!
    I can not in the new smartthings app see, as you can, a full list of Smartapps.
    I only under my "All SmartApps" see "Smartthings Home Monitor" app.
    Other than that I only see "My SmartApps"
    Do you know why I can't see the same amount of apps as you do?
    I can in the Classic app add something in the "Speaker Companion" app and that configuration do show up in both the new and classic app.
    (for example a door opens and a bell ring)
    But the "Speaker Companion" app itself do not show up in my SmartApps (neither in the classic nor the new app) at all.

      In a lot of cases I kept getting the audible alerts from this, but if you're not you could try virtual switches and then you'd have to re-trigger them on again, off again.

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  3 роки тому

      That'll be a little harder to do. I feel like you could trigger on a virtual switch after a notification occurs and the button isn't pressed. Then use the button to turn off the virtual switch.
      The problem is the cyclical nature of the notification. You'll have to turn off the virtual switch for a moment.
      Something like this...I didn't test it.
      Notification -> Set VS 1 and VS2 On
      1 Minute has passed -> Notification -> VS1 Off
      VS2 is On and VS1 Off -> Turn on VS1
      Back to 1 Minute has passed -> Notification -> VS1 Off
      This should produce a loop for you.
      Now the button would turn both VS1 and VS2 off. :)

    Hi, which siren will you recommend ? Since I have Zigbee network, I heard that if I will connect Z-wave devices it will heart my Zigbee network, is that true?
    Can you recommend a Zigbee Siren that has multiple tones?

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Nir
      ZigBee and Z-Wave networks are generally meant to work on different frequencies, but you should do a lookup for your country and check if they're the same. If they are the same frequency, then you may run into troubles with having both. Otherwise, they won't hurt each other!
      I haven't seen or worked with many Sirens to be honest. Just one from Aeotec that was a Z-Wave version and had a single tone. I feel like smart speakers are going to be better than sirens and I find sirens to be restrictive and not that usable.

    @Raegoul 4 роки тому

    Do you know if the new smartthings app is going to support the 'Momentary Button Tile' ever? I prefer those instead of traditional virtual switches because you don't need to worry about switches getting de-synced. They register being pressed and then go back to a neutral state. I notice in the new smartthings app my existing tiles are saying 'checking status' constantly when when i try to trigger them they say 'Can't connect to this device. Check it and try again.'

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  4 роки тому

      Eventually, Virtual Switches will be replaced by a true variable. I'm told this will be much better, but I'm not sure if it will be anything like your momentary button tile. I would assume it won't be, but that you could have boolean values that could be auto-reset (so like a momentary button).

      Did you ever find anything like this? I'm looking for something similar. I'm wondering if you're able to control the volume on a smart speaker, so you can have louder chimes or other sounds play when a motion sensor is triggered.

    Hello Brian.. I dont drive my car all that often so I'm looking for a way for smart things to notify me when my car battery in my garage goes below a certain voltage say 12 volts so I can go out and start the car up before the battery goes flat.... Any Ideas?

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  4 роки тому +1

      Ever heard of Zus? Or Nonda? They actually have a little smart charger device that reads battery stats. Otherwise, we'd have to find something that kicks out a signal for a low battery voltage. I don't have something off the bat, but I have seen people use light sensors directed at small LED lights in order to know.

    Will we ever be able to make virtual switches in the new app without having to go back to the classic app?

      You just need the classic app for the first one, then you can use the new app from that point on.

      Hey Carissa - It's actually just a Sonos Play:1 which nowadays, you can replace with the upgraded version of the Sonos speakers called the Sonos One.

    Great video! I wish I could do what is explained here! But my problem is that I have a Sonos One for like 6 months and that works well with the Sonos app or Google Assistant, I have the last Sonos app version (12.0.5) and the last SmartThings app (1.7.51.42) and I can't find Sonos in my SmartThings app when I want to add a New device. What's wrong with it? Oh I have to mention that I live in France

    Response time is horrible. SmartThings send event to samsung cloud, then processes it and sends response back. So you will never get the speaker to announce in less than 2-4 seconds. Unless smartthings allow some sort of local processing for audio notifications, this is unusable.

  • @IAMBRIDGEFORTH

    Why cut out the delay which is crucial depending on what you’re trying to automate? You’re thorough the entire review then when it is time to show a full example of how great this is you edit out how much of a delay there is from a triggered event happening then the effect responding to that trigger. Wouldn’t that be important to show so that people who are thinking about buying into this ecosystem for specific automations can see a real world example and decide if it’s worth the hassle/money. Great video still but definitely disappointed with that portion.

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  4 роки тому +1

      I hear ya. The delay though is more based on my network than your reality and I was having some pretty significant ISP issues that day! Either way, you can expect a delay of about 1-2 seconds on any trigger.
