  • In this video, we are going to get your Sonos devices talking for use within your smart home. This isn’t exactly straight forward but it is not hard. Basically, Sonos cannot read text (like Amazon Echo devices can) and turn it into a voice so you will need to create an audio file for your Sonos Speaker to play. This is a little more work but you can customize the voice and it will say anything you want.
Just follow the simple steps below and your smart home will be able to say anything when events happen in your smart home. Your imagination is your only limit.
    1. Create a FREE Amazon AWS Account: portal.aws.amazon.com/billing...
    2. Create and download an audio file (region may vary): us-east-1.console.aws.amazon....
    3. Create or log in to your Dropbox account: www.dropbox.com/
    4. Create a folder for your audio files.
    5. Generate a public link for your audio file.
    6. Paste your link into a new browser tab and replace the “dl=0” to “raw=1”
    7. Copy the crazy long link from your browser.
    8. Create or log in to your sharptools.io/ account: • What is SharpTools & W...
    9. Enjoy your Talking Sonos Speaker!

I found it interesting how much more work it is to make this happen with SmartThings and Sharptools vs with Hubitat it takes me about 10 seconds to do the same thing with no cloud delay or Dropbox or AWS accounts or downloading txt to speech files. I just set Hubitat to speak my txt and it’s done and super reliable.

Can't get the music to resume if it was playing before the alert. I have tried "playtextandrestore". I used to use "playtextandresume" in webcore, but with the new sonos upgrade, that no longer works. doesn't seem to work in ST automations either, or in sharptools. Boo.

I was able to get everything set up but when I went into sharptools to apply the rule the phrase that I had put in did not come out the only word that came out was the word (file)

Is this still working in ST? I'm able to PlayPreset for Pandora and SiriusXM stations, but can't get PlayTrack to work. Tried in both SharpTools and webCore. The URL is good, as i can paste it into a browser window separately and it plays just fine. Not sure if this was done before or after the Sonos update, but it wouldn't surprise me if ST broke something in the process.

I was able to make a virtual switch in smartthings and I’ve got everything working as the video showed but, when I went into sharptools to look for the trigger which was named Sonos test, there were no virtual switch by that name

When I paste the address and hit save, Sharptools is adding apostrophes to the address. example: ['xxx/file#']

Great video, but it doesn't work. I followed step by step this video and I couldn't get it to work. The cloud+Sonos One+ Sharp Tools Premium.....It just doesn't work.
