Fabulous workaround to be able to use it with SharpTools. Thanks so much!!
At 11:19 I think you are seeing the effects of a loop created by setting the state of your button in the automation responding to the state of that button. In other words, if your automation is responding to the disarm button, remove the action to then change the state of the disarm button and that should be much more responsive and not do that wacky stuff you see. My guess anyway.
thanks Justin for the video. Is there any previous video showing that ST can enable Arm away to switch on unless all users are out of the location/home? Also would like to see process where once Arm away switched on - ST executes series of events like temperature changes (incre/decre) and switching lights on/off etc.
Check out this video for some examples.

Has anyone used Sharptools routine yet to automate this? I would like my presence sensors to trigger when everyone is Away, and automatically change the state to Armed Away. Then when return, via the 1st presence sensor, change to Disarm. I guess it would be good to have Armed Stay, maybe trigger that in a good night routine? Also would like to mirror the same process for the Alexa Guard function as well .
You can control any virtual Switch with SharpTools. So once you have your virtual switch you can set up whatever automations you would like to set up. The Alexa guard is a bit tricky until Echo speaks gets fixed.
Is there a way to dismiss an active alarm doing this in the new app? Setting up with voice through Alexa?
I haven’t tested it lately but last I checked the only way to dismiss it after it’s been triggered is through the app. Best way to use it is using your presence so it auto disarms before you breach the perimeter. I hope they fix this because it’s very non standard in any other alarm. You should be able to disarm after a breach.
Hey Justin Denmark here :O) Very good video. I am using Life 360 for the hole family, to set alarm on and off, and it is working perfectly. But i can not find Life 360 in the new app. Wil my automations from the old app, still work in the new app. I am using Xiaomi aqura products Best regards Jim
As long as they are added and you can see them in your IDE they will function for awhile. The future is still questionable but more direct functionality is coming for SmartThings.
Hello Thank you for the video very helpful.I have one issue my Current States on the switch is on all the time and on my ST mobil app is on all the time. what can i do to correct it. thank you.
@@SimplySmart123 yes it won’t respond to anything on the mobil app. The 3 virtual switches that I created are on all the time and cannot be controlled and cannot be controlled. Thank you
Be sure that your automations are set up correctly in SmartThings . It sounds like something is not set up right.
Is there a way to disable the leaks portion of SHM? When ever the floors are being mopped, the sensor gets just wet enough to set it off, and shut off the water.
The only way to disable it is to not set it up as far as I know. It would be helpful to have separate controls for that because it doesn’t stop monitoring even when the system is disarmed for obvious reasons. You could set-up an automation to turn the water back on with in a certain time frame if it turns off or just have the mopper picked up the sensor that could be triggered before mopping. I have a water shut off that I will do a video on soon and I will cover that automation as well.
Simply Smart 123 I think I figured something out. Instead of having SHM close the valve, I will have it turn on a virtual switch. I will program the virtual switch to close the valve, unless the switch I have for when the cleaning people are is on. That should make it work around.
I created this test before I moved to SharpTools, and I get unpredicted results. My automations do not work consistently. Have you come across this before? I rechecked that I have the automations correctly.
It you change states rapidly SmartThings gets confused. What I am going to do is have only one virtual switch and when it’s on its armed away and when it’s off it’s disarmed. I don’t use motion sensors in my alarm setup
@@SimplySmart123 I did it slow. I even added a 2 sec delay. The single vSwitch seems easier. There were problems with Smarthings automations, etc. Today. An email came and said resolved, but I don't see much difference. Thanks.
Hi, do you have new videos on how to use new versions of smarthings and sharptools? Thanks!
It will be basically the same process but you will need need a new virtual switch that will work with the new changes in SmartThings. There are videos on it out there on UA-cam.
A virtual switch is just a switch that is software essentially. When toggled on and off, it can make things happen in your smart home that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. I recommend getting a smart things hub if you are serious about building a smart home.
Hello I followed all instructions and I was able to connect to Alexa, but when I arm and disarm the automation doesn’t work. Any help?
If you try and toggle them very fast they might be able to keep up. This is usually only during testing and not everyday use. You you switching rapidly?
Hello and thank you for the video. I am having a problem with the automation having followed your video and the SharpTools community page steps that linked to your video. I really would appreciate some help here as I have been busting my head for the last few days trying to get it to work.
I have ALL three virtual switches and ALL six automations (x3 switch and x3 STHM State) configured as illustrated. I can select an STHM state and virtual switches change accordingly and vice versa BUT only a few times. After doing so 2-3 times, the app goes into this loop where it continuously toggles between the last two states. If I then select either the third state OR switch then it toggles between all three. It does not generally stop until I disable the STHM Status automations but there are times when the loop seems to sort itself out after some seconds have passed. I have cleared cache and force stopped and restarted the app and it still occurs.
Any idea what may be happening here? Your help will be truly appreciated!!
Thanks...
@@SimplySmart123 Hi and thank a whole bunch for the quick response. The states are changing rapidly, like 2-3 changes per second
There was an issue with the Smart Home Monitor recently. I went to a single switch for my alarm system. And basically when it’s on it’s either on in arms day or arm away based on the status of smart things. So smart things is in away mode it will arm away and home or night mode it will arm stay. Any time it's disarmed it will be off. That way you only have one switch and it's much less that can go wrong.
@@SimplySmart123 Hmmm...interesting. That sounds like something to try. The automation will therefore have two conditions to be met e.g. (IF Switch-On AND Mode=away THEN arm away) plus another similar automation for armed stay.
Cool...thanks again
@@SimplySmart123 SOLVED!!!
I had posted the same question to the Community page that linked to this video and the suggestion there was to change all three devices types from Virtual Switches to Simulated Switches in the Smarththings IDE.
Changed them and the 'infinite looping' is now gone and the switching is now flawless. I am not sure if I am losing anything with these switches now being Simulated, but it all works now.
Thanks again...
What classic app?
The classic app was killed awhile ago. It can no longer be used. So if you are new to the platform don't worry about it.
please update this video now that smarthings classic app is disabled.
This is how to get it to work with the newest SmartThings app. Where do you see there is an update needed?
@@SimplySmart123 The latest smart things app is a completely different layout than the one you show.

Any way to ask for a password when disarming using alexa?
Omesh Bhatt not that I am aware of but you could name it something complex like OB573045
You can also use your presence as a factor so it wouldn’t be able to be disarmed without you being there.
How will you use your 3rd party SmartThings Home Monitor system?
hello it will be use to monitor the Konnected alarm . it will be on the fire tablet HD with Sharptools.
Great idea!
