Yes, you need to improve your fitness. But something that has helped me (I’m a CDM) is working on your positioning off the ball so you naturally run less in the game. It doesn’t matter how fit you are if your just running sprints the whole game because eventually you’re going to get tired. Some examples of positioning that I try to improve are thinking plays ahead so I don’t have to check in more every ball. I just find the space and make a decisive move when I want the ball instead of intensely checking in every single time. Also, when defending, instead of following players around, you should cover the space that you are responsible for, cut off any passing lanes in behind, and be very aware of the players around you so you can make a decision on when to step and when the ball back. Your going to kill your self if your just mindlessly chasing after every ball.
One thing this video didn't mention is sprinting guys. Sprint at least once a day as if you are running for your life, and then do low pace running, if you can do the second sprint thats even better. 1 sprint a day will drastically improve your stamina, your life span and heart health.
I bet you have flat feet. If true, get some custom insoles while you strengthen your arches. Flat feet causes problems all the way up the chain - ankle, shins, knees, hips, back.
Try soleus muscle stretches, or doing the Asian squat/deep squat and hold for as long as u can until u can train up to it for 60s. The Asian squat has helped me a lot, along with taking vit D. I have seen tibialis raises are very good too.
