Also: - get used to passing back - not every pass has to be forward (I see a lot of players who seem to think the ball must go forward no matter what) - for your first few passes of the game, keep them simple e.g. short and low. It’ll help build your confidence for passing throughout the game Lastly: Watch how Paul Scholes played in his prime and copy. Great touch, beautiful passing, and brilliant footballing brain.
you know I had training today and we played 5v5. The advice that not every pass has to be forward helped me so much. This was the advice I was looking for !
I feel like you and i would click. A lot of the new gen don't know the majestic passing of Bergkamp, Scholes, Totti,... All wanna run forward and be a messi ronaldo. Chill, relax, keep the ball rolling. Pass to a teammate, return and again. Get your opponent acustomed to a pattern, then bam somewhere else. The beauty of football is in the passing. As simple as it sounds, it's so complicated to a lot a lot of people. It's like the jab in boxing. Looks simple and boring, making it heavily unused by even the best of pro's.....but it's by far the most lethal and underated of tools. Opens up for what comes next.
and pass within 3 touches or less.. pass and find new open space... when the whole team does that.. the game becomes so much faster and tires the opposition faster!
Passing back is extremely crucial to maintaining ball possession and can make the difference between a good team and a bad team. My son's team always, ALWAYS passes forward, they lose the ball, the other team counterattacks and scores a goal against us. My son is the only one that passes backwards to allow the CAM run into space and score a goal. Going forward all the time is an amateur mistake.
my 7 year old is constantly trying to master his first touch, without any pressure from coach or parents. he can see the work he has put in manifest on the pitch.
This has to be the craziest case of deja vu.. Just yesterday, I played a 10v10 pick-up game at a local park. After I did not play an actual game for over a year (pandemic and all of that), I had an awful performance, a 3/10 at best. Due to the constant pressing from little short dudes and the lack of confidence, I kept misplacing passes and getting dispossessed with ease, which definitely bothered my teammates. To make matters worse, I ended up pulling both of my calves pretty bad.. But anyways, I really do appreciate the tips and I hope I can build up the confidence again to really do well on the pitch soon
@@johnii2100 Hey man, I'm glad to hear that. I actually didn't pull my calves, it seems that I just had really bad cramps (I could barely move at all). I played again on Wednesday and had a much, much better game. Put in a few key passes, dribbled past five people on one occasion, and pocketed this one guy that was destroying me the last game. Hope you can regain your skills from the past
One way is when you get the ball to your feet pause for 1 second look around to see your options. Can I run into space, pass to a team mate, or hold your opponent off and wait for backup and pass off or go around your opponent
one thing thats very often ignored or not talked about much is to pass the ball in 3 touches or less... and using your dribbling skills only when necessary.. the ball always travels faster than we can run so pass whenever possible!
Great video! I coach teen soccer and I do one on one coaching for my 13 year old daughter. She and I will practice a single skill a hundred times in a session and it is really amazing how quickly she evolved from a player who scored once or twice in a season to once or twice every game. She also increased her assists and every other aspect of her game. I totally agree that the first touch is the most important skill.
Great video!! As a former player with 15 years experience at a decent level I'd like to add a few tips for first touch: When the ball is coming to you having a vision where exactly you want the ball to stop is priority #1. It automatically directs your body shape and position ready for contact Controlling/contact point of the ball is overlooked with beginners/amateur level. A rolling ball with topspin is kicked towards the top half.. striking low will deflect it upwards When trying to control a bouncing topspin ball.. lean slightly forward focusing on directing the ball straight down to stop it jumping up and looking silly. Good luck!
Hey Dave, I'm a small player and as you said its important that we know how to protect the ball using our body to our advantage to win fouls Could you please do a video on how to protect the ball using ur body to win fouls and tips and techniques please
It is my anxiety that makes me nervous alot... I normally play good but idk why today I played so bad..(played with new guys so maybe bc of that) but still learning to perfect the first touch
one thing i have a problem with is staying consistent, one game i play like prime messi the next i pull a cheeky karius. so if anyone knows any tips or knows about any videos that could help, it would be great thanks.
What that means its that you gotta try keeping it simpler then. Even if in a good game you can pull off some more complex things, an irregular player ends up being a liability for a serious team. So just be confident over the fact that you have those skills, but still be patient and humble over the fact that you still gotta build your consistency which is a different skill too that has to be trained as well. Think that if you can be patient with it and keep it simple and master the fundamentals that build flow and fluency for your teams game, for many matches, you will grow to a regular composed player that coach and your team will know they can rely on you in every match. Then you will have gotten that part out of the way and bring back those more advanced skills you know you have cause you will still have them, your individual talent wont go away just cause you try to be a more consistent and better player for your team. Football is a 11 player game, and its hard, cause raw talent doesnt grants you anything as we seen with many many great players that werent able to adjust to the other parts of competition. But realizing that you are lacking consistency while being a good player its def a good place and being on the right path. Being talented while still humble is the best player possible imo, thats why Messi is the player he is for example.
Timing and distance when dribbling is key. With normal/shorter players you can obviously time your dribble with a short distance... using that same amount of distance won’t be efficient against taller/bigger players especially at a higher level so you’ll have to dribble with a little more of a longer distance away
