Question: What would be the best way to finish the fretboard? A thin coat of Crimson High Build Oil, a quick coat of lacquer sprayed on, or something else you recommend? Thanks! :) Part 1: ua-cam.com/video/S2VZu9tgOSQ/v-deo.html Part 2: ua-cam.com/video/lTiXDDfFneE/v-deo.html Part 3: ua-cam.com/video/4YFtr9k4V1U/v-deo.html
Might be an idea to use some form of oil and sand it in so the fine dust fills the grain. I just read on some random forum you should ideally use some form of grain filler or the grain can collect all the crap and get sticky. Anyway I'm letting you do the experiment on the oak lol
nice job, for me, the fret work is always the most tedious part. Starting with the drill on revers helps on centering the bit in a such small hole. Your almost there.
Thank you! I'll definitely try that next time with the drilling. Yes fret work is tedious, but it's one of those things that is so satisfying once it's done!
I know what you mean about filing the edges. I don't have that tool, but that's the one task of fretting I really hate doing. I always scratch the side fretboard wood
Over all your guitar build is looking good. One suggestion I would make when drilling the holes for the Tuner machines. Use something like a center punch to make a dent for the drill bit starting point could even be a small nail tapped in just a bit then removed and for the drill bit its self use a good sharp Brad point bit the size you need for the hole. The length of the bit you used worked against you as well a bit less than a third of the length would have given you a lot more control. Start off slow maybe even in reverse the switch to forward and drill slowly.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate the tips :) this build has been such a learning experience for me and I'm collecting all the tips for the next build!
On that maple neck I fretted I just filled the slots from the side with superglue then lacquered the whole thing but now the deep slots are a bit obvious and would defo look better filled with sawdust lol.
My biggest issue always seems to be twisting the frets in the slots slightly when snipping off the ends. ...and yeah, I've got a similar edging file and manage to ruin the entire thing with it too! I've seen AguFish with that buffer and completely forgot about it, will have to remember to get one. I love the fretboard wood on that.
Haha I hate using that tool! Glad I'm not the only one who makes that mistake, also with the fret ends. Im definitely going to get some more practice with fretting guitars. I have a few older guitars which are in desperate need of a re-fret. And thank you! I love the wood on the fretboard too. I'm not sure whether I should oil it or lacquer it, though, as it's quite light coloured.

That's a good point about things collecting in the grain!
Side dots, two of my favourite mantras spring to mind: a man on a galloping horse wouldn’t notice and it’s close enough for rock n roll :)
Haha thanks mate, it's absolutely close enough for rock!

It turned out pretty good Alexis 🙂
Thank you very much!
I feel your pain on edge filing, I still do them individually because I haven’t found a tool I’m happy with yet! Good work 👍
That sounds like the smart thing to do, but I don't know if I can face the hours of work it would take me to do them one by one haha

Yes me too! There is a trick I'm missing for sure
Love the vid
Thanks mate!

Haha yes I just used wood glue. Because of the colour of the fretboard I kind of get away with it, but yes, sawdust would have been better!
