Thanks! That would be cool to do! I miss my Trangia series. Right now in this moment i use the Trangia Mini on a mountain hike (Kebnekaise). Just love it out here!
What an idyllic day you have captured here Mattias. I must get myself a Trangia. It’s such an iconic design and a real Swedish outdoor symbol. I’m hungry for hotch potch now! Safe travels.
Thanks for you kind words Eddie, it was a great hike and one of very few days with frost last winter. Wierd times. I agree, the trangia ia absolutely iconic and timeless. Versatile as few others and compact. Happy trails!
Mattias Eriksson Strange times indeed. Our city is back in lockdown so I’m sitting in my garden making coffee outdoors on my campinggaz basecamp stove. Might make a garden hotch potch later! You’ve inspired me!
Nice to see your comparison. :-) I also had a positive experience with the Trangia winter attachment when I tried it a couple of weeks ago. Today I skied cross country and tried the mini Trangia for the first time.
Thanks! I was surprised by the difference. I forgot to bring the aluminium plate that comes with the winter kit, it makes a good base for the stove in deep snow and reflects heat I right direction. The T28 Mini is a favourite. It fits in a keg packet in trousers or could almost always be packet even if You don't plan to use it. Safety! It does really work well for cooking too. Look fwd to se Yiur vid!
I call that yolk gravy from G-d. Two pieces I do not have is the winter attachment & the triangle. That smoked lamb was the leanest looking meat I've ever seen. I've never seen that here in Ohio. Beautiful!!!
Thanks, liked that name! You should try smoked lamb, tender and really tasty. It works really great to keep wraped in paper during several days on hike. Eat it as a snack as it is or cook with it like in this meal. It is somewhat luxury.
Thanks Alan, that salted and smoked lamb steak was just delicious. Get rid of the sweet potato and this was perfect, but still yummy. Bright and crisp day, outdoors when as best.
Thanks! Sorry for beeing unclear Magnus. The preheter just helps alcohol reach the flas-point, ignite and the time for the burner to bloom. Ofc you can just store the fuel and burner close to body. The video shows that the burner with preheter keeps a more intense flame thru the hole burning time. This actually makes difference around freezing temps so it does not require to be very cold before it getting handy.
Great video Mattias. White gas is more used over in Canada during the winter. I like your folding bowl cup setup, very cool! Thank you for not using dehydrated food this time, the egg center in English is a yoke.
Thanks Shawn! I have a multifuelburner for this stove as well. But that is only needed in extreme conditions or when alcohol is difficult to get. Dehydrated I just a shortcut and I mostly cook from fresh. Cheers!
@@Braapncamp I hope I did not offend about the rub on the dehydrated food, I have tried your potato pancakes, awesome! Your Rhubarb cream is my wife's favorite.
Thanks for making these videos. I recently cooked some burgers on the trangia (my first time using the trangia 25 setup, prior to that I had always used the burner in the solo stove as a stand) using the frybake expedition pan (decent fit on the brackets, where the trangia frypan would go). It did cook the burgers, but I went through about 5 ounces of yellow heet to do it (had to switch to second filled burner after first went out; I am getting nowhere near 30 minutes out of the trangia burner filled up to flat part per directions). Pan never got above a simmer/sizzle, and I did use the tight-fitting frypan lid. There was no wind really, and it was about 20 degrees F out there. I actually am OK with how it went, as my biggest fear cooking on camp stoves is burning stuff. However, with all the talk about how well the trangia cook set performs in cold weather, I was surprised the pan never got hotter and that I had to use so much alcohol. Am I expecting too much from the trangia in that temperature with the pan at the frypan height? Are most of these comments I see about how well the trangia does in cold weather referring to boiling water in the saucepan, which sits much lower and is inside the top "bowl", thus getting more heat (I assume) from the burner? Just curious if perhaps there's something I could be doing better if I need more heat at frypan height in 20 degree weather. It does get a lot colder here sometimes. Thanks for any feedback on that. From your video, the flame from the burner is pretty powerful, I didn't see behavior like that, and was not using simmer ring.
Thanks for this comment! Not sure how Yellow Hear compares to the Ethanol or Tenol (Ethanol with 5-10% methanol) we use over here. I have actually at one occation barely been able to fry sausages i the pan but it was half storm outside at that time. I those conditions one should cook Imin the pans instead. I have some more videos making burgers in cold winter and that was no problem at all, those got really hot fried. So You might try other ethanol fuels? The original frypan works better than a custom one i have. Regarding burning time i definately get around 30 min out of a 2/3 or slightly more filled burner. I hope someone else also could give there best tips in this thread!
I have had the same experience many years back. After watching Trangia video tips here on UA-cam I saw one using an outer extra wind shield while using the pan. I reckon because of the space between the Trangia wind shield and the pan, the heat is reduced and therefore an extra wind shield that cover the hole Trangia cooker would maybe solve some of the heat reduction ? Coghlan's lightweight aluminum wind screen or similar... Take care, and be safe!
Have you tried using a firebox stove or bushbox lf as a replacement for the triangle? Wood twig stoves that are built for holding trangia as well. Triangle seems so limiting in comparison
Hi, never tried Buschbox or similar. But have Triangle and a woodgas stove for twigs and stuff. Even that holds the alco burner. That woodgas stove is snug stuffed in a MSR Stoveaway pot. Really nice kit. Used it at some adventures, only one kayaking video thought. Trangia pots and pans could be used at open fire if needed and works good. But I have kept an eye of these bushboxes, they defo look handy!
Hi again Andre, ha a look at the Petromax Hobo Stove. Have You tried that? I might get me one of those. As you say, it does what the triangle do but with twigs as well with fashion. Wouldn't be surprised if I manage to mod it to fit a multifuelburner as well ☝️😁👍cheers!
Thanks Robert! Yes it is the 27 HA, i think it performs better in that way that it is easier to clean and holds up against scratches etc. better. The Duossal also performs really good, but are heavier.
Love the drone intro and outro :-D Really good and makes you see the trip from a much better perspective... It lookes like the winter attachment is a "must have" for everyone who use the alcohol burner in the winter. How long will the pad last? did not catch you mention it in the movie? I think Santa will drop me a drone for christmas. I stated very clearly that i have been nice for one year in the letter i sent him :-P
Thanks! It's not really a must have, in this mild temps and even colder the burner works anyway. But i must say that it made difference, so i'm happy with this winter improvement. It does not ad any weight or voulme to talk about. Not sure how long the pad last, but it will work without it. Did not see any sign of use the couple of times a have used it. Drone are fun, but ads a moment of tech time when outdoors. Both fun, useful and at the same time takes some of your moment to enjoy the outdoors ;) I've had it for clooser to two years, a Mavic Air and it does it's job while easy to carry. Even at backpacking. The new Mini looks as an option too, but there are much to conciderand learn before a purchase. Haha, sure You have been nice! :D
The Triangle is very lightweight if You only bring the kettle with you outdoors, or pot/fry pan. Or you just bring it as an complement to get two stoves for extended/easier cooking. Ofc it is not as storm/wind proof thought. Thanks for posting! /Mattias
Well that was a pleasant find, first time viewer and you have a new subscriber. That place is stunning but I knew it would be after hearing the accent! Hello from Scotland 🏴
Yes it does, thats classic beside keeping the fluid body tempered. But if you already are into buying a new burner, this kit could be an option since it comes as a burner kit and really works well. Thanks for your tips and comment!
Aaah, thanks! Love to learn the details. I will always think of that, when doing the Over Easy, the way i like it best. Even with boiled eggs, hard outer yolk and creamy in the middle. 😁👍🏻

Thanks for sharing that good info about the winter attachment! I would like to know more about your gear, from your jacket (which I really like) to your bag and the cups that you're using. Thanks!
Thanks buddy! My jacket is a Fjällräven Keb, love it for hikes and dog walks at autumn spring. The backpack is a typical non brand 35 litre patrol/operator type, god for all round tasks. Cups are from Wildo, typical soup foldable kuksas. As well the common civil version of Wildos kuksas, all scouts know them 😁👌
At around 4:20, did you mention Kattegat? Home of Vikings according to the TV series "Vikings". If you've not seen the TV series, I'd recommend giving it a go. Probably not historically accurate but great none the less.
Thats correct, the sea where this river Göta Älv flows to is Kattegatt. The Sea between Sweden and Denmark. I have seen the series and enjoyed them, ofc there are a twist on historical facts and other things that we do not know. The river Göta Älv as You see in the video was at it's widest part 1Km in width in the Viking Age, now 100m in width at those parts.
Hello , Nice video. Question. Do you have a brand name of the spade that u use to turnaround the eggs ? Really like that one because you can make it small and it doesn’t hurt the non anti stick coating. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Great video, really helpful. I'm about to buy my first Trangia and've got two questions for you. 1. I'm considering buying two burners in case one gets empty mid-cooking, any opinion on whether this would be money well spent? 2. The preheating is due to the burner being cold, right? Seems to be a easy fix would be to carry the burner in a pocket close to the body. Am I on to something here?
Thanks Dinger. You can never get to many burners 😂 If You plan to cook meals that require more than 30 min cooking time, then this is a great way to solve this (or get as gas burner). I have done this but must say that this is very rare, I try to plan or actually most meals does not take longer than one "burn out". Yes you are right and this is a classic trick, the burner and the cold fuel takes longer to get a bloom and in this turn, longer cooking times. So fuel and burner on body, inside your jacket and this is solved. With the winter kit you do not need to think about this.
Hello Matthias. Fantastic scenery! Very good quality video! Great review! And good looking food! What type of fuel do you use! I have been using Trangia since late 70's but always used it with denatured/clear alcohol. I have seen people use "crazy" fuels, like Heet and then the pots get covered in soot pretty much impossible to remove while you are camping. Cheers
That's the hole idea with Trangia, the super robust wind shield. This really is a storm proof stove. No problem to light it up at all. Light it up in the windshield instead of outside as I did. 👌
I agree, i would never use it in a tent with the preheater. Open flsme is really high, but "enclosed" with a pot and lid on that it is more controlled. I've only used the gasburner in vestibule myself.
Great video very well presented. Your dog Konrad could be a star in the making. I have a Trangia. How long does the winter pre-heat attachment stay alight? I guess it can't be that long as the pad cannot hold that much fuel? Also heating with alcohol fuel it's not possible to simmer your food unless you use the flame cover on the burner which you can adjust from open to closed?
Not sure for how long the preheater burns. But alcohol boils at low temp so the burner gets to bloom fast even if it is cold outside. When in bloom it stays in that way, the "combustion" of the burner will keep the preheated fuel at temp. Yes only way to simmer is to use the simmer ring, the lid with rotatable cover. That works ok when trained on it and saves fuel.
Great video and a nice comparison of the two cooking systems. Beautiful landscapes too. By the way, please could you confirm what kettle you are using? Many thanks - Ben
Nice video Mattias. Thanks! Always love seeing the trangia! Do you live near trollhattan? I was camping near Lilla Edet a month ago, but didn't visit Trollhattan..
Thanks Koffi! Yes I live in Trollhättan, camping in Lilla Edet... did You fish for salmon? Lilla Edet is known for the good salmon fishing in the river Götaälv.
@@Braapncamp No we didn't, but I saw the signs for the salmon fishing spots when we crossed the river near the hydroelectric plant. We camped next to a lake. When my friend flew his drone, suddenly the thing went crazy, lost communication, flew in the trees and then dropped down in the water. Oops... :) One very dead drone..
ohh, not fun with the drone. Hope it was covered so You got a replacement. Mine went bananas when I was too close to a powerline, but it went out good that time.

Thanks! Romania looks like the perfect adv and hike country. Om my list to visit some day 👌. Konrad, the dog is a Basset Fauve de Bretagne. Like a doubble stray hair dax hound 😁. Its a hunting breed, excellent at tracking. If i let him go he sniff up deers , hares or foxes withing minutes and start tracking them while barking when in closer contact. The breed works like a dax or like the swedish breed Drever. Very similar.

Great scenery and nice explanation of how the winter attachment performs. I just ordered a 25-23 duossal and look forward to get learn how to use it. I would love to see how you clean and maintain your trangia in the field and at home while practicing "Leave no trace" in the wilderness🔥🏕️🇨🇦
@@eddieallen6401 haha, better do the outdoor stuff that we can! 👌💪🤠🔥
wow! winter wonderland! 😍
That was really helpful - Thank you.
My pleasure, thanks 🙏
羡慕你们住的地方,非常漂亮!nice video
Thanks!
Fantastic well done
Thanks Alan, that salted and smoked lamb steak was just delicious. Get rid of the sweet potato and this was perfect, but still yummy. Bright and crisp day, outdoors when as best.
Hello! Beautiful video!
What opinel number is it?
Thanks! No.10 a special version with corkscrew. Good size for food prep.
I didn’t get the point about the preheater but it was a beatiful video. Keep it coming 😀
Not at all 😁 rhubarb season is coming fast here now.
Keep the good work up, great presentation!
Thanks mate!

Fantastic video, thank you 😁
Is your cookset the hard anodised material? I have the ultralight aluminium 27. Does the HA perform any better?
Schöner Ausblick
It is! The river is Götaälv and the valley is called Götaälvdalen. Smoked lamb in the stew made good as well 👌🤌
Hello i have just had trangia 27 multipot system with kettle so if i also buy that triangle what advantage does it give me?
Thank u🙏
The Triangle is very lightweight if You only bring the kettle with you outdoors, or pot/fry pan. Or you just bring it as an complement to get two stoves for extended/easier cooking. Ofc it is not as storm/wind proof thought. Thanks for posting! /Mattias
Well that was a pleasant find, first time viewer and you have a new subscriber. That place is stunning but I knew it would be after hearing the accent! Hello from Scotland 🏴
Haha, thanks my friend!
i use tiny bit of toilet paper as a wick, and it works great for me in cold weather !
Yes it does, thats classic beside keeping the fluid body tempered. But if you already are into buying a new burner, this kit could be an option since it comes as a burner kit and really works well. Thanks for your tips and comment!
Beautiful.
Thanks Paul!
“Sunny Side Up” is how you cooked the egg. It’s “Over Easy” if you flip it but keep it a little runny.
Aaah, thanks! Love to learn the details. I will always think of that, when doing the Over Easy, the way i like it best. Even with boiled eggs, hard outer yolk and creamy in the middle. 😁👍🏻
Mattias Eriksson Braap&Camp
The pan I use outdoors ...
It heats fast, poach eggs in 4 minutes and without the insert you can cook everything else.

Jättetrevlig och bra video!
Tackar! En av få dagar med snö hos oss denne vinter.
As well the common civil version of Wildos kuksas, all scouts know them 😁👌
Very nice place. Greetings from Poland. Smacznego życzę
Thanks 🙏 It was a nice day out there and the smoked lamb was tasty. Cheers for Poland a nice nice people and country which I like to visit 👌
@@Braapncamp Fascinating! Many thanks sir.
Hello , Nice video. Question. Do you have a brand name of the spade that u use to turnaround the eggs ? Really like that one because you can make it small and it doesn’t hurt the non anti stick coating. Greetings from the Netherlands.

@@Braapncamp Amen brother 👍
Cheers
Hi, thanks! I use Tenol a fuel that are developed for alcohol burners. It's like 90% ethanol and 10% methanol.
Otherwise I use 100% ethanol except from the part that denatures the alcohol.
@@Braapncamp that's what I thought. Thank you
@@Braapncamp 100% alcohol is not to burn up! It is for the stomach and head! :-D Thank you for sharing this beautiful scenery with us!
😂😂👌🙌
what if theres wind? ..looks difficult to get the fuel started. Or do you just eat a cold sausage?
That's the hole idea with Trangia, the super robust wind shield. This really is a storm proof stove. No problem to light it up at all. Light it up in the windshield instead of outside as I did. 👌
Wow, great example of why you should be very careful when using a stove in the vestibule of a tent. The flame on the pre heated stove was huge.
I agree, i would never use it in a tent with the preheater. Open flsme is really high, but "enclosed" with a pot and lid on that it is more controlled. I've only used the gasburner in vestibule myself.
Nice video thanks
Thanks Willis! It was a great day ouutdoors.
