I think it's important not to rush and just set easy to optain targets. I am getting my camp routine sorted now. Just comes with practice.
Glad your terrier enjoyed watching Elsa.

    Hi Ken,
This time of year is the best to listen to the dawn chorus of bird song. I went for a walk yesterday to a public woodland but camping is not permitted there. I have a feeling the bird song there would be fantastic first thing in the morning.
I left very little impact. Infact I have camped at this very same spot several times in the last 2 years and it is still pristine.
    All the best

Thanks Sandy as always another wonderful video with you and Elsa in the woods. It was especially enjoying to watch while the temps are in the 90'sF here in South Florida. I'll be looking forward to your next with great eagerness. Hopefully I'll get up to the mountains of North Carolina next spring for a weeks worth of the great outdoors. Best

Mark, The hooped bivi is a great very well made piece of kit. Great for real stealth camping, great for high terrain camps. Nothing short of a guenuine tornado will blow it down. Very warm for winter camping too. Hope to get a chance of a camp with you in Brecon later in the year.

    Hi Les,
Elsa is the apple of my eye. I love her very much and she is great company. I have another dog called Jess. She is also a beauty but can be jealous and attack other dogs. We have to keep Elsa and Jess separate whilst they are indoors. The problem with dogs is it hurts to much when they come to the ends of their lives. I lost my first dog Ben a few yeats ago and it wasn't nice. Both Elsa and Jess are now 8 so they have some good life ahead of them.

Thanks for your tips and sharing. Here is an idea that you might like, when testing the hammock to see if its solid and won`t drop you to the ground, don`t sit in it because if it lets go you drop quick and could be harmfull. Instead lean forward on the hammock with the material on your midsection leaving your arms in front of you and legs ready to take the shock if the lines let go. I learned this the hard way.. Thanks..

    Hi Tony,
Thanks for the reply. The head torch I use is called a Cyba-lite. Not the cheapest but well worth the money. Around £20 I think. I try to keep all my battery gear, head torch, torch, gps etc using the same battery. The cyba lite requires just one AA battery and it will last for ages.

    Hi Sandy,
Excellent camp craft information. I"m learning all the time.... In my part of the world an underquilt for hammock isn necessary, but mosquito netting is! Made myself a cup of tea when you lit the stove... Like you, I usually wake up with the birds (before sunrise) when camping out..

    Hi Chris,
I can get you as much flint as you need. It is in abnndance on the chalk down land near here. The Hultifors axe is good, but the mask that comes with it is not that good. I have made a new mask for my hultifors axe. It is similar to the one on the Bruks. I will do a vid showing the new mask, tool maintenance and knot tying soon. Whenever you want to pop over or go out for a stroll or camp just let me know.

Just wondered if you could recommend a decent head torch with a red and normal light I don't wild camp cos I don't have the knowledge to survive but I like walking near dusk looking for owls and a red light would be handy. To be honest, 99% of the time the axe is not needed. But good to have just incase. Perhaps if I was brning larger wood on an open fire it would be more useful. I use the axe a lot at home because we heat the house with wood burning stoves.

Yes I know what you mean about the mask, flimsy ish for the edge the axe has, I tend to wrap it up in other material as well when its in my Bergen just to be safe. The flint hunt was only for a couple of bits to accompany the steel ;0), I may be able to get up on the Marlboroughs tomorrow and find a couple of bits, Kev is away so I will find him a bit too for when he returns. If I fail I will be straight back with a flint request! When time presents the chance I will most def give you a call.
