- A few have noticed the change on the desk, noting that the Monoprice Monolith THX AAA 788 had been replaced by the Mytek Liberty and yes it is the new benchmarck review DAC/AMP. I love the Mytek Liberty DAC and in this video I give a brief overview of its functions and why I made the change.

Well it’s not just the content you know.......the creator matters too, so don’t be so hard on yourself.I really like watching your reviews because they’re so simple and straight forward, plus the music in this video is kinda cool. I hope you have a wonderful time doing these reviews for us!. About the editing, you get better at editing by experimenting with your videos and finding what works for the type of content you do. So keep improving on your edits slowly and develop a certain style like jumpcuts, closeups, changing camera angles and so on. Thank you Dave.........for your videos and please make more for us.
Hi..thanks for the review. I am currently using Sonos Connect to stream Apple Music onto my Spendor D7 speakers paired with Rogue Audio Sphinx amp. Do you think this DAC will bring a noticeable difference to the sound quality when I add this to Sonos Connect? Please feel free to suggest any other alternatives if you think of.
Sorry I've never used or heard Sonos Connect. I've never used Apple Music either. Sorry PC and Audirvana user here. I'm not sure if the Mytek would connect to it to be honest. But yes I'd think the Mytek would sound great as the DAC if it can connect.
Hi Honest, I was looking for a second dac, next to my smsl su-9, which very is transtarent and clean but a bit more analytical than musical. After watching your review I started gathering additional info and when a nice offer popped out I got it. And, thank you Honest, it meets all my expectations - it is very naturalistic dac that is musical, has very descent extantion in low and high end, and pairs very very well with my Burson Soloist 3X. I will describe that pair like very musical and very good for enjoyment. Please, just advice what is the power cable with the blue bubble that you use. Thank you in advance.
And just to add - the MQA works flawlessly with Tidal connected to Samsung S10 Note plus and Samsung S21.

can you bypass the volume control and connect it to a integrated amp? how does it sound with Classical music?
I love the Mytek with all genres of music, especially jazz and classical.
You can set the volume output to fixed and connect to amplifier. Just make sure you don't use headphone out on Liberty as it also will have fixed volume.
if you can find an adl stratos used it would be amazing. These things used to sell for 1500 euros! if you upgrade the power supply with the sbooster you then are for some serious end games audio for a very reasonable price!

I’m confused why you didn’t use the Liberty to hook up to the monoprice thx. Especially because of the new liberty 2 with thx integrated. I’d love to know the thought process
I sold the THX 788 to purchase the Liberty.
Monolith AKM 4493 or Mytek Liberty DAC ...which is better??
I replaced my THX AAA 788 with the Mytek Liberty DAC and didn't look back. The Liberty is a step up from the Monolith. It is not as rounded and soft in presentation. The Mytek has a more natural and accurate presentation with better detail retrieval and resoltuion. But the 788 isn't a slouch at all. One thing that the 788 beats the Mytek is with headphone output power and it also includes xlr and se outputs for headphones. If you have the money, I highly recommend the Mytek over the Monolith unless you want all the extra stuff that the 788 includes.

is liberty's amp better in quality than something like atom or l30?
I havent heard the Topping L30. In my opinion the Liberty amp is superior to the Atom in overall sound quality. But that is my personal, subjective opinion.
Overall sound presentation is better accurate tonality and timbre, more dynamic, airy, wider soundstage, better depth and layering. Isn't a good comparison because the Mytek also is a DAC and can't be used as a stand alone amp.

@@TheHonestAudiophile Hey, I tried the liberty again and compared it to Chord Hugo 2, Chord qutest + topping L30, chord mojo and my fiio k5 pro. liberty is very good, much better to my taste than other combos and for me it wins in every category except clarity. Qutest with L30 had noticeably better clarity in certain parts of some songs. but its not super noticeable and L30 sounded narrow and flat compared to Liberty (Liberty sounds very wide and detailed with a lot of air). Maybe I will do a full review of it because more people need to know about it.
TBH you don't buy this expecting a top of the line headphone amp - this DAC excels as a line source feeding an amp - it almost sounds as good as a Brooklyn+ but for a more affordable price. Add a decent linear PSU and it sings even more. Punches well above its weight and is an interesting alternative to the Chord Qutest or RMI ADI-2. A neutral DAC with an excellent soundstage and great detail. Avoids the dreaded "ESS Sabre DAC glare". Takes a little while to burn in BTW.
I love the DAC in the Liberty. I dont have any issues with the amp on the Liberty. Is the amp the best available, no, but it is a quality amp. I mostly use the Liberty as a DAC outputting to my 789.

nice DAC with terrible headphone output. IFI IDSD Nano BL for 200 euros is much better for listening ...there is no point in this nice power cord. get a linear power supply ...
I disagree about the headphone output, sure it isn't the most powerful available or the lowest output impedance but it is a ver useable headphone amplifier. The power cord was just for looks and feel, nothing more, nothing less. I love the iFi Audio iDSD BL but too me it is too warm sounding and not as natural as the Mytek Liberty. I will gladly stick with my Mytek Liberty for my review unit. Thank you for watching and commenting.
