    Dear Steve Guttenburg, Thank you for this review. After seeing your review about the Mytek Liberty DAC. Four days of reading reviews but mainly trusting you I ordered it. First it arrived faster than some deliveries I get from Asia as I live in Thailand. I got it on the 14th. I could not find my 1/4" adapter for the head phone and this morning I went out and purchased one. The DAC is incredible truly. On analogue to digital recordings it sounds excellent but digital recordings it is incredible. Classical and rock are the only music I have listened to so far but I am more than happy even though I did not want to spend so much... Still it is worth every penny to my ears. Thank you so much. I have been looking for a DAC for a long time and in Thailand the good ones are hard to find.

    LOL. $2K. Class D was designed to be an economical solution for amplifiers. It’s intriguing how high end equipment are taking advantage of the situation.

    • @amirjubran1845
      @amirjubran1845 4 роки тому +3

      Especially those with switching power supplies. The expensive class D integrated units usually have a toroidal power supply for the preamp section.

    • @epi2045
      @epi2045 4 роки тому +3

      Amir Jubran Toroidal power supplies are treated like gold in the audiophile world. There are lots of types and quality levels. However as a whole, they aren’t that expensive.
      I don’t hate Class D amps. Heck I even think Class T amps are pretty cool. I just get annoyed when companies are charging thousands for a topology that is outright cheap to produce.

      The only laughable thing is how afraid audiophiles are of change: if you'd rather pretend we're still in the 80's or 90's, go ahead, but these days there are class D amps that will run circles around any class A amplifier, if you want fidelity and technical accuracy - and yes, they're often economical too, what a tragedy, right?

  • @redstarwraith
    @redstarwraith 4 роки тому +2

    Glad to see you review some Class D products. We all know they are not your favourite so, to see you give a favourable review of one is really something! It's odd to me how Class D has this reputation of being "affordable" (and a lot of Class D products are) yet, I would not classify Mytek (or Bel Canto) as such.

    • @nostro1001
      @nostro1001 4 роки тому +2

      I think that has to do with the implemention. Yes, they can be made cheaply. However, I don't think they can be made really well and remain at the cheaper end of the market.
      Happy to stand corrected by those more in the know than me. 😃

    • @charlesgrubbs2101
      @charlesgrubbs2101 4 роки тому

      Google Images Behringer NX3000 Class D for example. Look at the state of the art printed circuit boards and parts quality. $300.
      High end home audio companies are trying to make a quick buck off of non-technical types with these huge margin D amps. As an EE with 42 years of experience I have to laugh. Lots of scamming going on right now in the high end. Most audiophiles don't have a clue.

    Steve @ 7:44 you break down what your definition of “hi-Rez “ strength can be..ect ect.. I think I tend to agree because I am on a search for a “low noise floor” lately . So by that logic I’m guessing MQA is going to be what could be considered one of the better standards? I understand this might be too detailed but for us to be able to communicate effectively about what these algorithms are they must have some sort of name for the type... I hope that makes sense

    I was intrigued by your description of the Amber Rubarth session. So, I purchased it in 24bit/192KHz format. When I listen to it with LS50's and a Denon AVR as the amp - the recording sounds very good. But not as you described. I don't get a sense of space. However, when I listen to it with my Focal Clear headphones connected to A&K Kann - Wow! With these I see what you're referring to. The cello on "Top Grass" is simply amazing. The recording engineer did a fantastic job in that church.
    I wish you had mentioned your listening experience with the LS50's. Is it my room or simple AVR amp that's falling short?

    • @nostro1001
      @nostro1001 4 роки тому +2

      Not a 100% sure I get the question; I'm thinking you're referring to the outlay of money, rather than the 'upgrade' itself.
      If that's the case, I guess it's like anything one chooses to spend their savings on. It's a personal choice....peeps buy crazy expensive cars, yet a cheaper car will still get you from A to B and likely at the same time if you're following speed limits.
      I don't really concern myself with what others decide to buy or not buy. That's why we are all individuals.
      Personally, I don't view a $5000 amp as over the top or overkill. Times that by 10 and I'd definitely not choose to spend that kinda money (if I had it) on an amp!!
      Edit:
      I think overall what I wanted to say was that music is very important in my life and being able to play it at a 'level' that gives me that satisfaction is what I deem most important from my audio gear!

      It’s a Class D, don’t need the huge transformers. 😬

    Those are very expensive Amps, the Chinese stuff that drives stadiums with 3000 watts arms cost $1000. So much for American Manufacturing. The reason why Power Amp sounds better and richer than the other is all in the Pre Amp. A Power Amp is like a container, and if you fill it with junk it will produce junk, but fill it will fine music and it will produce just that. The other thing is, I won't listen to music on anything less than a 12" and I prefer 15". The larger the speaker, the better it will produce rich bass. A subwoofer bass plays differently from that of a large speaker. I listen to Reggae and R&B, and Classical. You should do a small vs large speaker-test one of these days, although you perhaps have since I'm a new subscriber; in which case it would be a review.

    They want $2500 for a Class D amp? That's hilarious.

    Mytek is bright crappy sound. Bel Canto sounds balanced, musical. Honestly, I am losing more and more respect for this reviewer the more I listen to his reviews. Don't bother clicking, it's completely off base. Not sure what his angle is.
